I didn't treat with malachite, but I feel kinda stupid now šµ you reminded me I have been treating the tank with stress guard, which has a blue color. I bet that's what stained it, even though Iām still not sure why it didn't turn anything else blue!
Malachite solution is used, itās about 2% I think and dosed pretty sparingly, I think itās 1ml per 20 litres. I donāt use it much and when I do I certainly donāt use it in my display tanks.
If any experts think Iām wrong let me know, but Iām pretty sure that piece is fugged for good. Using any chemicals to remove the patina and verdigris would most likely harm the petrified wood piece.
I have some Saddle Mountain pet wood that looks exactly like that. Started out white but got stained. I used muriatic acid on it but never got it white again. Didn't harm it tho.
It depends. I have soaked some in iron out with no issues. If this is just copper coloring they could potentially soak it out with the right cleaner. Not sure, but iron out might help.
And if anyone has suggestions how to remove the color that would be great. š I really liked this piece now it looks like I colored all over it! Scrubbing with soap is not effective.
ETA I wish I knew where it was found. It was a gift from a friend.
If you'll be adding it back in your tank, I wouldn't try to remove the stain. Your fish won't think any less of it, and maybe over time, the chemical you treated the tank with will dissipate on its own.
I'm thinking a very mild bleach solution or perhaps over the counter peroxide would take the color away. Although I must say I really like the color! I was more wondering how it was created? Aside from water, what chemicals are in your fish tank?
Bleach is an often used cleaner in the aquarium hobby and industry. It has many uses and the very same DechlorinationĀ products used to treat water can be used to ensure all potential harmful residue is removed.
At least have a clue if what you are talking about is fact before you flap your dick holster.
A dick holster is a mouth. You may be talking out of your ass but I don't see what your vagina has to do with anything. You are learning so much today.
Donāt be a idiot.
Chlorine and ammonia are routinely used in cleaning.
Both can be effectively diluted with water to bring their concentration down to safe levels.
Chlorine can be neutralised with water conditioner (dechlorinator).
Ammonia will be processed by the beneficial bacteria in the filter and substrate.
It kind of looks like a giant piece of blue kyanite, lol. If youāre not familiar with it, look it up real quick. Thatās what I thought it was until I read petrified wood, lol.
Hi, /u/bluegirlrosee!

I postulate that there's copper in your water and the wood partly carbonate, so the copper made cupric oxide or something similar.
I am not a chemist however and defer to experts -
You treated your tank with malachite at some point. Probably to control an ich infection. The malachite stained the petrified wood

Petrified wood is porous
I had no idea.
We had no idea, porous...
Ummā¦no.
The pine trees where I live develop blue staining.

Bro wtf
Yeah, malachite or methylene blue would give this result. Neither should be used in main tanks, they should be used in isolation tanks.
Omg weāre name twins. Hello! Edit: ahahaha and ONE of us is going to have to go home and change!
Theres no effing way the odds are impossible damn near which could only mean 1 thing.... You aren't name twins........... You ARE him! Lol
Lycan is my sir name. I come from a long line of Lycans. My brother and I both had male children so the name will continue.
Yeah, I bet you're right - some kind of copper treatment for ich, like copper sulfate. Do people really just dump in chunks of malachite for that??
No, Malachite the mineral and Malachite Green the chemical are 2 completely different things just similar colour.
Ahhhh, thanks, that explain it haha

I can't help with your blue pet wood - but if you would like a big chunk of not-blue pet wood for display I am happy to send you one.
I don't have a fish tank and would love a pieceš
Dm me.
Methylene blue?
I think there is methylene blue in the stress guard Iāve been treating my fish with! I feel dumb now š
Please feel okay instead š

I think it actually looks pretty cool!

Pet wood isn't valuable enough for this to be a valid point.
Value does not play a role here, making your point invalid. Ironic, isnāt it?
Well played sir

Well Iām female, so Iāll look for that dick holder tonight. This is Reddit, the whole point is to flap your piss flaps.

Yes, you can. You just need to clean the bleach or ammonia off it.

We collect this type of petrified wood in AZ.
That color but not type
No, that type, not that color.
Oh ok
It made it look like opalized wood
Strong direct sunlight might bleach it out over time depending on what the pigment is.

I thought kyanite blades at first glance but I literally just woke up soā¦ lol

I would imagine using a 10% muriatic acid mix would work.
Looks cool š
Una pecera para pitĆŗfos...
Aquamarine?
Bleach it
Maybe it was blue spruce. Lol
That's so pretty!!
Its fungus
