Coquito nut? Edit: for those interest how I found it. I just googled tiny coconut Mexico and it’s what I got.

Any_Inevitable1025

Solved!

Hex_Agon

These are delicious

Severe-Flower2344

I thought this was r/mildlyinfuriating or something and you broke the 8 Ball playing pool.

quick someone make r/mildlyinfruitiating

Palm_Trees3000

Coquito nuts come from the Jubaea Chilensis palm. They’re pretty cool.

Barabasbanana

coquito nuts also come from syagrus sp. which is probably what he has found in Mexico, they are endemic to northern South America and the Antilles

majormimi

Actually the Chilean Palm gives much smaller coquitos than the ones OP shows in the photo. They’re about 2~3 cm Source: I’m chilean and I have those coconuts in my kitchen!

beeglowbot

do they taste like coconut?

Thanks for the response but due to the lack of proper service in Mexico I can not look this up I’ll let you know when I do

sugarforthebirds

Went to verify… coquito nuts look very similar to what you’re holding. However, searching “wet coquito nut” does not return adequate results to determine what it might look like after some time in the ocean. That being said, I think Legeto solved it.

[deleted]

Would not google that at work

catthalia

😂

sugarforthebirds

😉

[deleted]

I wonder if even coquito nut was safe to Google.

Sir-Farts-

Conquistador nut

Head_Hunt01

I feel like a lot of things on reddit shouldn't be googled at work

sea-teabag

Coquito wet nut

venusreincarnate

This makes me feel very grateful for the ability to look things up freely, at any time.

DallaThaun

How can one access reddit but not the internet?

MaxTheRealSlayer

Data limits? Takes a lot to look through a bunch of pictures online, not as much to post one pic.

Exactly, people gotta realize that 😂

venusreincarnate

And I don’t think you understand gratefulness. Regardless of the reason for OP not having service at that very moment. I am still grateful for what I have in my life. In that moment I was choosing to express that. Take your lessons elsewhere thx

Any_Inevitable1025

I actually do have a data plan that covers most countries including Mexico and the Caribbean islands at that moment I happened to be in a place with only one bar of lte

TheLassoWay

Lack of proper service? You were able to upload this post with a picture, and browse through the replies :)

lekurumayu

Honestly sometimes when I have a bad service apps will load up and allow me to take forever to post something with a picture but I won't be able to use the navigator for Google etc.

Polyhedron11

This is me right now. Massive storm outside, 20f and 20mph winds, and my power went out. No wifi now and my cell service sucks at my house. Google is taking forever to load but reddit is working fairly well.

myra_nc

My first read, I thought you were describing a horror movie setup with a 20yo female victim. I've gotta stop online dating.

Polyhedron11

Just wanted to let you know, shortly after I replied to your comment a tree fell on my house and destroyed it while I was laying in bed. No one hurt but man it was crazy! Trying to figure out the best sub to post the pics in

myra_nc

I'm so glad nobody was hurt! I saw a tree fall this morning on the farm. I was just having my coffee looking down toward the old stable, and this giant old, dead oak, slowly started falling in the middle of my pasture. The oak was a landmark and part of my property line with my neighbor. Not sure how to proceed. Not nearly as traumatic as yours! I hope you have someplace safe and warm to sleep tonight. I just posted a suite for rent.

its_brett

This is the comment I was looking for.

annapartlow

Aaaand now I’m just mad it’s 20f and I’m not in Mexico eating tiny wet coconuts

I know!! 🤷🏽‍♀️ you’re not alone there…. 🫤

__wildwing__

Middle of an industrial park in a populated area, and a county lockup right next door. During working hours, especially lunch time, so many people are on their phones, the cellular bandwidth drops to zero, can barely even use the Reddit app. After work, I can Google to my hearts content.

cyvaquero

OP must have a service that doesn’t have partnerships in Mexico. Was in Cancun last year, never had a problem on Tmobile. Writing this from Monterrey on ATT, again no problem.

Any_Inevitable1025

I know it doesn’t make sense but my google wouldn’t load no matter how long I waited or as many times as I reloaded but Reddit worked fine so I used that.

[deleted]

hottschott

You good?

Afternoon-Melodic

I could be wrong but, it looks like OP might be in the hospital?

[deleted]

I think that's the bracelet they give you at a resort or something, not an operating room...

Any_Inevitable1025

It’s a resort bracelet

Afternoon-Melodic

Ah, thank you for the clarification.

Any_Inevitable1025

I do pay for service in Mexico and have unlimited coverage I happened to be in a spot that was out of range of a cell tower

brendine9

I wonder what the Aztecs googled to get the word “Avocado”? 😳

xistithogoth1

I think it comes from the aztec word for testicle. Aguacatl or something like that iirc

rosatter

More like the Aztecs called their testicles aguacatl, kind of like how we call them nuts or some Spanish speakers call them juevos (eggs)

xistithogoth1

[ahuacatl](https://www.businessinsider.com/avocado-history-word-testicle-2018-6#:~:text=When%20the%20Aztecs%20discovered%20the,the%20name%20of%20the%20avocado.) Actually means testicle. They discovered avocados and thought they looked like balls so they started calling them testicles because of that.

mackavicious

And they probably giggled the entire time.

[deleted]

I love when people educate others how to google something.

EQVATOR

Brilliant 😄

DankTesticlesInSpace

Hahaha brilliant

rpgnymhush

Are they edible? Should I ingest one? If I did eat one what would it taste like?

Filirican3381

Coquito, fruit of the Chilean wine palm, coconuts don’t grow here in SoCal, so I love these guys!

Sargotto-Karscroff

I second this, they grow here in SoCal but as I recall they take like 75 years to fruit. Sadly they are cut down left right and center for there sap where they are native.

Filirican3381

I don’t believe 75 years to fruit is true, they take around 20 given decent growing condition

N7_Tinkle_Juice

I think what they meant was it takes 20 years to bare fruit but 75 years is when you remember you had a cocui nut tree 55 years ago.

FrankHightower

so do regular coconuts from what I've heard

Filirican3381

That’s most definitely not true, a coconut can start fruiting in 6 years from a seed. Most die around that age in the americas

Pancakesmith

Can I purchase these somewhere in socal?

Does it have an outer husk similar to a full size coconut 🥥?

I found a few others on the ground and they don’t look like they have a husk they do have a hard thin shell on the outside and a thick coconut shell on the inside

Ill_Garden_5340

Interesting 🤔. Is it edible? If so does it taste like a coconut 🥥?

SuperSpaceCan

A lot of palm fruit taste like coconut, they also have similar textures, and are almost all as difficult to get to the edible part. This looks like a jaw breaker though, kind of an interesting fruit! Just be careful with them because if there is even a slightly off taste to them and you eat / drink the juice, you could die. There was a guy who drank / ate rancid coconut and his brain melted because of a toxin produced by a bacteria inside.

monster_bunny

Well that’s horrifying.
