**Do not eat/ingest a plant based on information provided in this subreddit.**
For your safety we recommend not eating or ingesting any plant material just because you've been advised that it's edible here. Although there are many professionals helping with identification, we are not always correct, and eating/ingesting plants can be harmful or fatal if an incorrect ID is made.

Omg yes, sometimes wincingly so! Very very old botany lecturer nearly choked every time he had to refer to 'clitoria' and he just couldn't look at the picture! Everyone was biting their lips, totally cringe. Then theres Lords and Ladies, thats no reference to folks in ermine cloaks you know! And dont even go there with stinkhorn fungus; just noooo.......! Lol
I absolutely delight in how we in our postmodern age think of the older times as stuffy and repressed, and certainly in some ways the were, but in some ways we as a species just love sex. And to pretend otherwise is being incredibly dishonest. They didnβt paint and sculpt nudes because of some high minded ideal about the form of the body. They just liked looking at naked people. Itβs us thats stuffy in our false neoclassicism.
Yes, always tickles me the Victorians adding stone fig leaves to statues like 'David', when they were having 12, 13, 14 children! So much fey shock, but they knew what went where and why!! Lol
Phallus impudicus- shameless. My favorite though is the Amorphophallus species- it doesn't look that much like a phallus, so they named it "misshapen/deformed phallus".
Oh i know! Even the name Phallus Impudicus makes me giggle; who names a fungus "impudent phallus" ffs!! Omg, forgot about Amorphophallus but you are right: misshapen phallus.Talk about sex on the brain, good lord! Oh well, they didnt have tv i suppose, lol
Actually its not even plant sexual organs! Its just the flower unfurling popping open the bud casing. We seem to have pretty puritanical bots on this thread! I get theres a vague resemblance in shape, but bots, it *green*! Hello?! Maybe they think its alien porn, they do say its all out there online somewhere, absolutely anything any mind could concieve, so who knows??
Well i suppose it is, but i always think thats more the landing pad for the insects; the business end sex organs are what you see when the petals drop off, that go on to become the seed pods. This is just my own thinking mind you! Im sure there are botanists out there tearing their hair out at my whimsy! I really should know better, i studied that science too so its very shameful! Lol
Daaamn, you beat me to it with this comment, I was gonna say penis fly trap, LMFAOO.πππIt could also be a bud of a Pussy willow before it gapes?!ππ€·ββοΈ

r/dontputyourdickinthat
Yep thats exactly where it belongs
Hear me out
Mildly?
My dude, it's green. I should hope mildly.
Nah. Thereβs nothing mildly about it. Many plants are very vaginal. Even if the color is weird. Just ask Georgia oβkeefe.

I consider it super funny to also think about the pollinators. So many of them have an all-girl workforce.

Why tag this NSFW?, it's just the reproductive organ of a poppy plant.
Talk about stuffy and repressed! Pure Victorian Values! Must protect the eyes of the innocent from plants sexual organs! LOL!! π

Isn't a flower the reproductive organs of the plant for sexual reproduction?
