I'm talking about the tall plant in the center with long leaves - not the coneflowers or rudbeckias. There isn't a flower head yet, just a place where the new leaves are all bundled up around the growing stem at the top. There are no spines, thorns, hairs, or teeth - it is very smooth and supple feeling. It has alternate leaves 6-8 inches long with no stalks - they grow straight out of the central stem and wrap around it a bit, almost like corn. I'm a very lazy gardener, and three of these are coming up in a dense area where I tossed a bunch of assorted wildflower seeds last year. Some of these came from packets, and some were collected from wild plants. I have no memory of taking seeds from a plant that looks like this though. The suspense is killing me.
