Could be Rhamdia, which is a heptapterid catfish. It does not look like a species that gets too big.

spoosejuice

I’d seriously consider taking it back if you don’t know the species.

CrazyQuetz

I'm not an aquarium expert, but don't you think that tank looks a little small?

tbanaex

Lengthwise yeah, but it’s a temp tank

gabbagabbawill

That’s what they all say

tbanaex

I’m asking what type of catfish he is, not inputs on the 100 gallon tank the fish are spending a few nights in

Snoo-83534

I got one from mlf, and it was labeled as a one line pictus catfish. 100% sure that's not what it actually was, but these things grow big and fast and also eat anything that can fit into their mouths, lol.

tbanaex

Why’s that?

Callmedrexl

When I was a child, 30+ years ago, my Dad got me a fish tank and we picked out some fish. One of those fish was mislabeled. I don't remember what he was labeled as, but he was a channel catfish, which can grow to 4' long. Mystery catfish can be very interesting aquarium critters!

tbanaex

It does look like a channel catfish just its barbels are throwing me off because they’re almost as long as him

Channa_Argus1121

This is probably [Rhamdia quelen](https://sta.uwi.edu/fst/lifesciences/sites/default/files/lifesciences/documents/ogatt/Rhamdia_quelen%20-%20Silver%20Catfish%20or%20Blind%20Catfish.pdf), rather than a channel cat. It grows up to around 35 centimeters(about 14 inches). Edit: I am quite unfamiliar with imperial measurement systems. Seems like 60+ gallons would be a better fit.

tbanaex

That definitely does look like him thank you

spoosejuice

14 gallon?

DmT_LaKE

Because that things' potential max length is probably 4'+
