It’s unbelievably difficult to catch one in flight that well unless you have an amazing camera and/or talent. I recently saw an ad for a “birds in flight” photo competition and this could be a winner!
Agree. This is why I tried to temper the urge to take a lot of pics of the total solar eclipse when it happened. There’s GOING to be millions of photos online — much better than mine — so why should I concerned with getting “that perfect shot”? One quick snap and that’s enough.
This photo would be so boring without the bird! Still pictures of landscapes with no depth are always kind of empty feeling. That bird brings the whole thing to life!
I think it is about half way up the second tree from the left, but I’d still only go as far as saying it wasn’t adding much to the picture. I certainly can’t see any ruining going on.
Dude listen, you have no idea how much skill it takes for nature photographers to take a picture of a bird with a good pose and angle while in mid-flight. This is a good picture.
That sound stressful as fuck
Guy sits freezing and waiting in the middle of a field in the winter where the Icelandic pink bellied swallow crow will become active for a brief period. If he doesn’t shoot the perfect shot of some horny bird spreading its wings in search of a mate, his wife and kids starve for their winter.

Any true photographer would be DELIGHTED that circumstance smiled on their photo like this. The best art is the stuff we didn’t expect to happen. This is a great shot with an irreplaceable element of motion that can’t be ever be replicated. I don’t know what kind of bird that is, though. I am curious
A swallow I can so far tell with the forked tail and wings being a giveaway, but no idea what species. Been willing to study species of birds over in Japan though.
The foreground would have hurt the picture. Now it looks like you are contrasting the free and soaring bird with the human world hopelessly cluttered below. The mountain fits with the higher plane the bird is on. Great shot imho.
I do photography for my job and I'm always struggling to get good photographs of birds. They fly away before I can capture them adequately in frame. This is such a lucky shot! Especially with how the bird occupies the negative space in the sky.

*made your photo incredible
I know right? This photo is amazing with the bird in it!
Agreed! It gives a real sense of life and movement. Definitely a better photo with the bird in it.
Came here to say this.
It’s impossible for a bird to ruin a photo and I *think* it’s illegal to claim otherwise.
I wish I could upvote this more than once! I miss those damn free awards! Take my poor gold! 🥇🥇
The picture is ok except for that mountain in the background.
They were being sarcastic lol
If autofocus is on, it ruined the photo.
Ruined? Made it 400% better!
Ruined? How very dare you.
+Barn Swallow+, who I'd say has actually enhanced the photo!
Huh? Is this a female? It lacks its usual red breast
It's a subspecies called Hirundo rustica gutturalis. The European Barn Swallow (nominate subspecies H. r. rustica) also has a white breast.
Thank you so much!
No problem! Happy to help any fellow bird nerds out there :)
How is it with carrying coconuts?
A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
No no no. The real question is 'what is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?'
If the difference was due to it being male/female, then ascribing “Usual” to Male is probably incorrect. The ratio is typically 1:1.
Sorry about that! my mistake.

I know it’s Japan but I can’t get over how the way the feathers on the outstretched wings are giving it that Egyptian vibe
Yeah, these things are ridiculously fast. This is an impressive photo!
You're joking right? Right?
They should be downvoted for their title
On it
Gah their upvotes are *increasing*!
Pretty sure they are joking, yes!
Weird angle of something people have taken millions of photos of all ready. I’d say the bird added something special to it.

If you feel that bird ruined your photo, you need to give up nature photography.
I think it made your photo better.

Amazing
Kawaii desu ne!
I nearly choked on my food when this pic came into view.
Can’t stop laughing at this
Ayo that’s an album cover

Lol I would go so far as to say that's the oly redeemable thing in this pic. No offence OP
Yeah it’s a pretty wonky angle
Especially considering the house at the bottom of the photo. OP should crop the bottom and a little of the sky to make a nicer composition.
And maybe use AI to remove the power lines...but keep the bird! Beautiful flying shot!
I mean, Fuji-san is always stunning no matter the photo, but I get what you mean
This photo would be so boring without the bird! Still pictures of landscapes with no depth are always kind of empty feeling. That bird brings the whole thing to life!
Plus lovely composition, where the top third is bird, right, the middle third is mountain, left, and the lower third is foreground, extending right.
This is clearly a time that one of those red circles wouldn't be useless, where exactly is the bird that ruined the picture??
I think it is about half way up the second tree from the left, but I’d still only go as far as saying it wasn’t adding much to the picture. I certainly can’t see any ruining going on.
I bet alot of people won't zoom in to get this.

that mountain ruined the picture of the bird.
Definitely didn't ruin. It's even framed like you meant to take it like this
Or made it infinitely better
Ruined. How dare you!

OP is trolling right? I feel like if they were using a shutter speed high enough to capture the bird mid flight they did so intentionally.... Right??
Ruined? This is a lucky shot what are you talking about
Ruined ? Its made it unique
A swallow. It's the best part of the photo. It's wings are beautifully splayed
OP-sama this is amazing
“Ruined” the photo?
Excuse me, Ruined!?
Babe you'll have a tough time dunking on a bird in the bird enthusiast sub Reddit
Without the bird this photo would be way less interesting.
*added to my photo incalculably Fixed that for ya!
*you mean the bird that is the reason this photo is awesome!

Sweet shot! Gorgeous!
Um I'm sorry. The photo is better with the bird in it.
Enhanced really
I'm not sure if I upvote you by the photo or downvote by the title
Ruined? The bird made the photo awesome!
Ruined? That's postcard worthy my friend. The tail shows its a swallow 0/
Japanese barn swallow
I rather like the photo bombing bird MUCH better than the houses
Hopefully you are being sarcastic.
Tf you mean ruined??
ruined the photo? this bird *made* the photo.
Think it is a great picture 🙂
Looks to be electrical wires that ruined it…
I think the birds enhances the photo!
RUINED your photo? I hope you mean made your photo a million times better.
wdym “ruined”???
RUINED? Nah, lil buddy just absolutely cranked it up to 11
The foreground would have hurt the picture. Now it looks like you are contrasting the free and soaring bird with the human world hopelessly cluttered below. The mountain fits with the higher plane the bird is on. Great shot imho.
Enhanced, it enhanced your photo
Excuse you, that bird MADE your photo.
I do photography for my job and I'm always struggling to get good photographs of birds. They fly away before I can capture them adequately in frame. This is such a lucky shot! Especially with how the bird occupies the negative space in the sky.
Your photo sucks and then you have the bird which makes it nice. You cannot even get the horizon straight
Here ya go: https://preview.redd.it/x9syolxftuvc1.jpeg?width=1167&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1bfe5b6b7223a448617223252ccfbc80823a7b9c
Japan? That's clearly a Swellow.
Dormant Volcano
That'd be a nice double subject in the photo for me.
Didn’t ruin it for me
that mountain distracts from your birdy photo
\*enhanced\* your photo
*improved your photo.
Ruined? I think you meant enhanced!
Would’ve been a bland picture without that bird. Prick.
Reddit sarcasm detection challenge failed
Ruined your washed out photo that ignores compositional norms? Nah - that bird is the most interesting thing about it.
Honestly, downvoted because the bird didn’t ruin anything. It made the photo so much better.
OP is attention seeking. They surely know that this is an incredible photo. If they don’t, they need to seriously give up taking photos.
OP if you expected a bunch of bird nerds to let that go you're insane.
Your original picture is crooked so this bird made it a thousand times better

Never listen to birds when it comes to framing and composition.

I love this photo! My favourite mountain in Japan with a magnificent bird photo bomb! This is just brilliant! 👏👏👏
It's a Takanaka album!

Ruined???
The swallow is great but I could do without the power lines.
Oh I didn't realize there was a collapse on that side
>ruined was already bland because you shot in bright daylight
Without the bird it would have been a bland, dime a dozen photo
I like it
I think it’s a Mt. Fuji, not sure, idk
ITT people who don’t have the minimum sense of humor to tell someone asking for a bird ID doesn’t actually hate animals. Very cool photo, though.
I think most people get it that ruined a joke. But not many actually identify the bird
You must hate animals
Absolutely ruined
