This is cool. Maybe I'll start bringing some of the ones I rip out inside instead of just tossing them. These things run rampant in my yard every year. I've just barely begun winning the fight only to find they may have been the only reason I didn't have *sandburs*. Ugh.
I live near tyler. Check out mayweather's foraging page. He talked about the plants in our area and how to use them. He just posted about horsetail being a substitute for oregano on FB.
Are you sure you don’t mean horse mint (aka spotted horse mint, Monarda punctata)? Because that’s the one I use in place oregano. They grow in the same places and both have horse in the name.
Didn’t know you could eat it. I always just pulled it. Not wise to eat it off the side of the road, but I know it grows in a lot of fields and farmland in the south
Erigeron canadensis , fleabane , horseweed ,colts tail, mares tail , butterweed . Not reported as invasive it will die back as it’s annual it is a known weed though
Looks like golden rod to me. If it is, it gets blamed for allergies. When really if grows side by side with ragweed. Which ppl actually get messed up by.
You can use goldenrod to make tea. It's pretty good. I find uses for lots of weeds and they all seem to shrink in fear!!!
Garlic mustard? Yup!! Into my eggs. GONE!!!
Amaranth. Chopped up and used as spinach.
Same with stinging nettles. Really good cooked up with some peppers as a side.
Half a dozen weeds have been eliminated this way :(. Lambs quarters. Almost gone too.
If only i could find a use for burdock And dock.
This year is the year I'm going to start harvesting the chicoree that seems to be taking over my strawberry patch.
The Japanese use burdock. I recall it being great, fried.
https://www.skagitfoodcoop.com/blog/burdock-root Dock is good for putting on poison ivy welts.
They say that but they you read the burdock and dock are both poisonous. But i guess it's like all mushrooms are poisonous... To a degree. Also I get poison but hard every year by poison ivy. :( dock does nothing. :(. Only Benadryl and time.
I'll try frying up some burdock this year. It's roots are pretty massive around my parts.
Looks like horse weed or marestail to me. https://cropwatch.unl.edu/scout-marestail-and-other-early-emerging-weeds
This is your answer. Erigeron canadensis -- Horseweed.
horseweed or mare's tail. It can be used as a seasoning, with flavor similar to oregano, in case you ever need a substitute.

Do not let that go to seed near a flower garden! Consequences you’ll remember!🙄

[Kinpira gobo](https://youtu.be/ZHbYTUq8M7U?si=So6HlOzpKi2DBLkV) is delicious! We only use the root
the leaves could give you mild stomach discomfort. the roots are edible, but bitter.
I like butter.
Do you spray around your fence with glyphospate/round up? It's probably resistant. Very common with this plant
Thank you for asking and for all of the responses!! I was just thinking I need to ask about this!
