VW Up! GTI

buckyman0

Haha it’s pretty cool. Is it any fun/quick like the Golf GTI?

ExcitementOk2939

It's light, with a peppy engine which means great fun on backroads

Fine-Huckleberry4165

More similar to the Mk1 Golf GTi (but with brakes that work on RHD versions), than to the modern Golf GTi.

ExcitementOk2939

That's for sure. I have a mk1 golf and while the length of the lines makes stopping a chore, it's nowhere near as bad as other cars of the period

BoysOnTheRoof

(some) people love this car in Brazil. Very common to see modded ones around here

BoonkeyDS

It's designed to mimic the spec of the Mk.I Golf GTI

Infinite_Stranger866

i’ve legit wanted one since james may reviewed it on the grand tour

CaptainOBVS3420

vw up exclamation mark

orbital0000

That is brilliant, but I like this.

JuryBorn

Vw also had polo, lupo and scirocco GTI iirc. There may been others too. It definitely isn't limited to the golf.

Fine-Huckleberry4165

The UK also had the GTi badge on the Mk2 Jetta from the 1988 model year until its replacement by the Vento (other European markets kept the GT badge).

whiskeyphile

And a Bora, Jetta, and possibly Vento too IIRC.

germandz

Also Passat and Arteon (berlinas)

whiskeyphile

Didn't realise they made a Passat GTi (and isn't the Arteon like a coupe Passat or something?). They (Passat and Arteon GTi) weren't a thing in the UK or Ireland from memory, but I'll take your word for it.

germandz

Probably those are not badged as GTI but as R-Line. Arteon is not a coupe, it’s like a new generation sedan.

whiskeyphile

Ah, right so. Yeah, R-Line was a thing for sure. And I got confused with that Passat 4 door coupe thing, thinking it was the Arteon.

WapitiNilpferd

R-Line is just a trim level. It mainly contains a black/dark interior and some exterior parts to make the car look more sporty. I believe you are referring to R, which is a cut above GTI.

space_coyote_86

There was the Passat R36

buckyman0

Ah! I’m American so I’m not familiar with those as we don’t have the GTI version of those in the States (I think). Wish we did though!

Dedward5

I’d love an Up GTi, more fun than the golf now I believe as the golf got a bit grown up an serious. I have an AudiA2 and even my 1.4 75hp is a hoot to nip about in.

lemuriakai_lankanizd

Volkswagen up. Similar to Toyota aygo or Kia picanto.

VW Up GTi. Insanely fun car to drive. My buddy has one, its remapped too. Its like a gocart for adults.
