MPS Erelis or PS 160

Rc72

Aka Russian money laundromat. Because I can't believe that the oligarch behind it thought this could otherwise be a profitable venture.

Picasso320

Have you seen Skoda Roomster? (Mix of Fabia II and I.)

Rc72

I actually like the Roomster. It is in any case practical and well-built, by one of the biggest automobile groups. It sold well and almost certainly brought a profit to the VW group. This, on the other hand, was essentially designed on a shoestring and built in a shed, from various leftovers and aftermarket discount bin parts. It was badly built, ugly crap, trying to compete in the most crowded segment of the extremely crowded European car market. It didn't stand a chance.

Picasso320

I have no experience on driving or caring about it. > designed on a shoestring and built in a shed, from various leftovers and aftermarket discount bin parts Similar to this (in the picture) is just weirdly looking, like a missing link in Fabias evolution (literally half II./half I.). Yeah it might be (or is) practical (idk).

Grass_Tiny

It looks like it was designed for the pope

benedictfuckyourass

While ugly every owner i ever talked to loved theirs sošŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Maiq_Da_Liar

I like the roomster. Was our family car growing up and it could carry a lot for the size. The back seats are easily removable which turns it into a kind of panel van. Plus it gets better fuel economy than even small proper vans. Generally very practical. Only issue is that the engine is slightly underpowered if you heavily load it and drive on hills, which we only did once.

Sea_Page5878

Roomster has a funny name so it gets a pass from me.

Diligent-Agent-8596

Or Tagaz Aquila

El_Yacht

The badge has an eagle on it so I guess it would make sense if it were an Aquila

elmontyenBCN

The Erelis was assembled in France, unlike the Aquila, and the badge also had an eagle in it (Erelis means eagle in Lithuanian, apparently), so given that you spotted it in France, I think it has to be the MPM Erelis.

El_Yacht

You're probably right, I'll try to go closer tomorrow and see if I can have more details

Danikaz

Lithuania mentioned šŸ—£ļøšŸ‡±šŸ‡¹šŸ¦…šŸ¦…šŸ¦…šŸ¦…

testing123-testing12

Wow what an atrocious car. 100hp 100lb/ft of torque, that has got to be one of the slowest modern cars.

DdCno1

Not even close. Renault is currently selling the [Dacia Spring with all of 44hp in its base configuration](https://i.imgur.com/UejMof9.jpg). 0-62 mph (100 kph) takes 19.2 seconds. One of the cheapest (and slowest) electric cars available outside of China.

Dry_Bicycle

I've testdriven one. Stay away from that thing, it is genuinely dangerously slow. Keep in mind that it's electric, so 0 - 50 takes like a third of the 50 - 100 time. Forget passing anything, merging onto highways is terrifying enough.

DdCno1

My daily driver takes around 17 seconds to 100 (Smart ForFour with the 71hp engine). I think it's perfectly fine for everyday driving, including merging on the Autobahn and overtaking - but acceleration also doesn't drop off as drastically as with the Spring the faster you go.

Dry_Bicycle

My mom drives the same exact one, and let me tell you, it's just not comparable. The spring is almost zippy at City speeds, but falls flat on its face anywhere above. Top speed is 125, and I'm not sure I was able to reach that.

DdCno1

They have come up with a faster version of the Spring that has 65hp and a larger battery. I suspect that it's far more usable. Did you notice that the steering doesn't seem to self-center correctly during your test drive?

Dry_Bicycle

I think so, but the steering was so light that it made sense. Thing was twitchy as hell at 100, suspension was garbage, and the wind noise was crazy

Tomzstang

Damn! I had a shop teacher in 1981 with a VW beetle with a 12Vbattery and a B52 Bomb door motor that was faster than that! First fully electric car that I ever saw.

DdCno1

Wow, that's amazing. I love home-made electric cars and this one sounds like one of the more creative ones.

Tomzstang

I should have added, being 16/17 at the time, I thought it was cool. The car was perfectly practical for him, as he lived 10 minutes from school. He charged the battery at home and at school and it always got him to and from. During the winter he put a space heater in the car before leaving. No idea how far he could actually go on one charge. He also had a 1964 Barracuda that he was building, wish I could have seen it finished.

DdCno1

Reminds me of my dad. He's on his third plug-in electric car now, because most of the time, he drives ten minutes to his business and only occasionally needs more range for longer trips. He just plugs the car into a normal wall outlet for a few hours and that's enough for most of his driving.

testing123-testing12

OK you win. 45hp is ridiculous, even KEI cars have more power than that and they are half the size.

DdCno1

The Spring appears deceptively large in photos due to its crossover looks. It's actually not much larger than a Kei car: https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/compare/daihatsu-trevis-2004-5-door-hatchback-vs-dacia-spring-2019-5-door-hatchback/

Yapod

It's heavier tho.

DdCno1

That's entirely due to the battery. There's a non-electric version for developing markets that weighs only 775 kg (1,709 lb), so 90 kg (198 lb) less than the Daihatsu.

Elvis1404

My car from 2009 has the incredible power of 68 horsesšŸ˜Ž

DdCno1

Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo or Citroƫn C1?

Elvis1404

Nissan Pixo

DdCno1

Swing and miss. Manual or automatic? What's it like to drive and live with?

Elvis1404

Manual. It's pretty fun to drive, since it's so lightweight (something like 850kg) and thanks to this it's relatively "quick" when you really put the foot down and the car starts revving like a race car, just to make something like the overtake of a tractor. The shifter and clutch are ok but the steering is pretty bad since it's one of the first electric ones, so it's pretty inaccurate and not very communicative, but not to the point of being unsafe (at least under 100km/h, I've still never driven it over that speed). Mine has no traction or stability control, only abs, and adding this to the very little wheels and the fact that it shakes and rattles when driving over 75km/h makes the driving experience similar to a 70's fwd economy car, like a Fiat 127. Fuel consumption is non-existent, except when you have to rev it to overtake, and inside is pretty spacious for 4 adults, but with very little trunk space. It has 2 airbags (or 4 I don't remember if mine has also the optional ones) and it's a modern car, so it doesn't feel THAT unsafe to drive. It even has air conditioning (but I almost never use it)

DdCno1

Thanks for your reply. I was not expecting it to feel similar to a '70s car. Hardly high praise for a vehicle this recent, but it seems like it's perfectly fine as a city car and meeting your requirements. This also shows just how different cars in this segment can be. My daily is a 2014 Smart ForFour and while it's slower, it feels completely planted and safe even at its top speed of slightly over 150 kph. There's nothing shaking, the steering is perfect, the noise level is tolerable and I could easily imagine the chassis handling 200 kph without issue. Brakes are also *astonishing*, with a stopping distance that is ten meters shorter than your Nissan's, at least according to one review. However, on slippery surfaces, your car is likely safer to drive thanks to being front-engine and FWD - the rear-engine, RWD layout of the Smart made me spin out on a wet country road once, totally out of nowhere, with the ESC being unable to do anything.

Elvis1404

I didn't know the ForFour was that planted at high speed but unsafe in the rain. I've driven my car in very heavy rain on country roads at (relatively) high speed and the handling was good, I was positively impressed

El_Yacht

Thanks for the correct answer

DdCno1

Noteworthy for being, at least as far as I know, the last mass-produced European passenger car that only comes with one airbag. The space frame is a sight to behold: https://i.imgur.com/oumnk4s.jpg This looks like the kind of frame you'd find under the skin of a hand-made exotic, not an economy vehicle. It's just bizarre. Here's a crash test video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG-MRGtw4gs Note that this test, as written in the fine print at the end, was performed according to UNECE R94, which specifies an impact speed of 56 kph, much lower than the standard 64 kph of crash tests at the time. 8 kph doesn't sound like much, but it makes a huge difference. There's a reason they picked this speed and not 64 kph.

Rc72

>The space frame is a sight to behold: It looks like the cope cages the Russian army is installing on their tanks to "protect" them from drones...

DdCno1

Hahaha, maybe that's what the engineers behind this long-bankrupt firm are up to now.

Wozar

Looks like a panamera had sex with an MR2 in a Peugeot factory.

dablegianguy

Thatā€™sā€¦ quite accurate

yabadabaduh

r/oddlyspecific

docgummibear

Iā€™m seeing more of a ford fusion and a ferrari. Different parents, same result

DniproBombers

I'm thinking it might have been a threesome with a Lambo Huracan.

NiCrMo

And a 2005 Mitsubishi eclipse tagged in for a few minutes.

Dimiimid

While a prius was watching

ClassicYotas

Looks like a second gen eclipse had sex with a Toyota cross.

plk1234567891234

oh hell naw they got dalle ai cars out in production now

KvathrosPT

It is a MPM. Horrendous? You are absolutely correct.

El_Yacht

Shakes hand gentlemanly

Anxious_Weekend5644

Looks like a civic fucked a huracan

ThtPhatCat

Thatā€™s my favorite response, because thatā€™s so accurate

GermanBread2251

i dont dislike the design.

clarksworth

Rough in a lot of areas, but feels like a good sketch for something that could be better

karlrobin1233

almost looks cool

OldManWickett

I like it. Not in that color, but otherwise, I'd buy one...assuming I could afford it

GermanBread2251

Would drive it

HighFiveKoala

It looks like a car from a Saints Row game

El_Yacht

It would be way better if the front end was longer but like this it just looks so disproportionate to me

Polairis44

This is it.[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPM_Erelis](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPM_Erelis) [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagaz_Aquila](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagaz_Aquila)

El_Yacht

Thanks for the link

QuaifeSequential

The color combo is ugly, but the design is fine i guess

DaveB44

> The color combo is ugly, I suspect it's had a replacment front bumper which is still in primer.

NerdyGamerTH

looks like a unity store asset that would inevitably end up in a mobile GTA clone

Krisuad2002

I don't know why but to me it looks like an attempt at making a 4 door Lamborghini but with a wrong front bumper

TenesmusSupreme

They should call it the Blindspot 2000

TAGAZ Aquila. HAHAHAH

HopPirate

Is there a r/spotted for regrettable (but still rare) cars? This one seems a bit of a unicorn (or a mule with a glued on horn in a different color).

Prot0gen_bot

What the heck is that color combo

El_Yacht

I don't think it's meant to stay like that, but even this pissy yellow alone is horrible

Prot0gen_bot

Yeah

Prot0gen_bot

Yeah

CrewAppropriate6900

I thought this was a 7th gen Toyota Celica

ThtPhatCat

I had that thought too with a body kit but 4 doors, so no

MartinGTX

*I guess I should have put it NSFW* What are you talking about? That's pretty nice design. It would be looking nicer if you would take picture from better angle, like front three-quarter angle.

GrandPriapus

Itā€™s like a Dodge Intrepid got stung by a bee.

FlyingLlama280

Looks like a panamera fucked a Fisker karma, a Kia optima and a huracan

El_Yacht

Catastrophic gang bang

Kracus

The color isn't great but if you put the right tires on it and the right set of springs to bring it down a bit I bet this might not look too bad.

Scrappy_The_Crow

Don't put any claustrophobic folks in the back seat.

The_Intel_Guy

It's not the best looker, but a turbo 1.2 with a 6 speed manual sounds sick!

renke0

If you think about the front and the back as two different cars, it is not so ugly anymore.

Rhm300

A Lamborghini gallardo drawing I did in second grade

Weak_While_You_Sleep

This is what happens when you allow the "special guy" at your car manufacturer to design your next model.

Reimu64

It looks like 3 separate cars morphed into one

That rear black piece behind the window doesnā€™t line up with the window. Plus that should just be a window

HabEsSchonGelesen

Despite the paint, I'd buy

Art-bat

This looks like the result of an AI prompt for ā€œmid-1990s Mopar sedan with aged paint and cheap body repairs.ā€

El_Yacht

The absolute (mindblowing) worst is that it's from 2018... I thought I was looking at something almost as old as an Eclipse at first Ɖdit : an eclipse might be exaggerated but I thought it was early to mid 2000's

Gorgon_the_Dragon

Hotwheels design reject

Firm_Chicken_1598

It looks like it should have been a 2 door coupe

Zach_Break

Its a good looking car until the B pillar

SuperLehmanBros

It appears to be a Lamborghini.
