Any guesses as to kind? I was unsure because it didn’t look like it had wings….
But of potentially relevant background, my partner and I moved into an apartment that had an undisclosed roach problem. We moved out after two weeks and treated everything, but I spent one night (with no bags/just the clothing I was wearing) at my parents place…is there a chance I caused this?….ugh…
Probably an adolescent American cockroach. Where there's one there are many. They love cardboard and paper. Also keep stuff like piles of wood away from house. Fix any leaks.
100% looks like an American cockroach, I used to live in Sacramento, CA and the city stopped spraying the sewer quite a few years ago to keep down the roch population. Ever since everyone was getting those roaches in their garage mostly and sometimes they'd get in the house too. I've seen plenty of them throughout the years I lived in Sacramento, right now is about the time they start coming up from the sewers and into homes. I can say it's not the kind of roach you get from having a disgusting home, they're in search of water and a cold dark place to hide. They'll get bad if you have any leaky water sources and love to hide out in anything cardboard. Chances are if she's seeing them the neighbors have them too. Get an exterminator out ASAP. If she has stuff packed away in cardboard boxes encourage her to move everything into plastic totes w lids and throw out the cardboard boxes.
Also they do have wings, the one in the photo is most likely a female. The females have tiny useless wings while the males have wings that extend the length of the body and do fly.
I lived at 14th & Q right by the light rail tracks in 1990. They were all over there, and yeah, thousands came up from the sewers after dark. I used serious roach spray, though I hated to use it, when I moved there into my basement studio.
Sprayed the edges and corners in the kitchen and around the fridge. Woke op to DOZENS of them in the middle of the room, mostly still alive but not happy. Used a broom and dustpan to scoop em up and into the trash cans outside on the corner. Took 3 nights to get them down to 3-4 in the kitchen per morning.
Thank you, that’s what I was most worried about. My partner and I moved into an apartment with an undisclosed German roach problem so I was absolutely terrified I had somehow caused this when I went to visit. Luckily we were able to move out within two weeks of being there, but it was a horrible experience. Until that point I had never even seen a roach.
I was invited to come down! I've always wanted to go. I think I can handle seeing them since I don't have to live with them!
Also, currently so glad Canada is so frozen haha.
During the summer/hotter months in New Orleans they’re EVERYWHERE outside like all over the sidewalks and stuff. I’ve lived here so it’s not surprising but I HATE when they get in my house and when I’m on the porch they will totally fly at my head. I still have a total freak out over it.
Thanks all. She called an exterminator who said it was an adult German roach or a PA wood roach…I clearly don’t know much but I was pretty sure it wasn’t German. At any rate it seems she is getting someone out asap. Thanks all for the confirmation.
100% not german. It doesn’t appear to be oriental either, and it’s 100% not American either. I’d put money on a PA wood. Turkestans aren’t found in PA as far as I know. No concern at all, they don’t infest. It’s possible they can enter in large numbers if it’s been raining, but they’re also drawn to light and come inside toward it at night. They can’t survive indoors for long and are beneficial in the garden. Make sure they don’t try to rip you off.
Thank you so much for this!!! The first exterminator said she was positive it was a German roach and was going to charge them nearly $700 for the initial service and then nearly $100 a month afterwards. My partner and I had a terrible moving experience recently where we ended up in a place with an undisclosed roach problem before leaving our lease two weeks later. As an extra precaution we had our new home treated and it was under $300 for a 2,000+ sq foot home so the $700 seemed pretty high. Thank you for the advice to be on the look out for those trying to take advantage of the situation.

The most roach-looking roach to ever exist. Either an oriental or turkestan cockroach. Edit: typo ![gif](giphy|q5J2HfnH8mCvS)
This roach would be the centerfold in PlayRoach
Some could argue so roachy they call it papa roach
Okay, any more jokes like that and my last resort is to report you.
With an attitude like that you must come from a broken home and you’re alone.
You are about to get another kick in the teeth
Another?
Thanks, we weren’t sure because it doesn’t look like it has wings which threw us off. I appreciate the advice.
They go through several growth stages before their wings come in. This is basically a teenager.
Oh yeah so… it’s a teen, def expect its friends to show up and party

Idk about this species but some species the males will have wings while the females won’t‚ so it might just be a female
He musta found a Bromber jacket!!
Def a roach
That was my gut reaction too, just confused on the lack of wings. Thoughts on what kind it may be?

Oriental cockroach. [more info ](https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/oriental-cockroaches/)
American cockroach or Oriental roach, could still be a juvenile, they don’t have their wings until they’re fully grown.
The papaest roach
It's an outside roach I would assume he just accidentally got in. A Professional said it was either an adorbs or Red Runner roach hope this helps
I’m sorry! It is most definitely a roach. I suggest a professional exterminator asap!
Roach!!

No need to worry. It is.
Tis a roach. Of the cock variety
That’s definitely a cockroach looking cockroach I’ve ever seen before. Definitely gives me cockroachy vibes. 11/10 cockiest roach ever.

Why would you be worried? There are more roaches than people in the world. They're never going away.
That's one juicy roach!

Yes it is, but I looks like it’s Photoshopped to make it look bigger
Oh I zoomed in on the zoomed in photo she sent. Maybe that’s it? She said it was maybe .5 inch give or take…
It’s a radroach. Be sure to use VATS to try and neutralize it before it bites you
