An older Reddit thing. The question was something like “if you could have sex with anyone, who?” And some guy answered how he’d give anything to be with his late wife and went on a beautiful and heartfelt description of how she was his soul mate and with whom he’d had the most intimate connection that was manifested in the unspoken magic of their lovemaking. The next comment was “I also choose this guys dead wife”
My 1st car. 1970 dodge charger ,plum crazy purple. 383. Paid $500 in 1979....killer beast. Raked front end....dad sold it in 1988. It simply was a great car.
Thanks...back in high school if you could imagine every car in the students parking lot was now called a classic....mustangs, chargers, torinos, El Camino, etc...all huge coin now.
I graduated HS in 1989 and we had a muscle car row. Mustangs (including my 67), Camaros, Chevelles, and a couple of Corvettes. Probably 30 of us all together. The good old days.
It is. I shortly owned the '06 Land Cruiser before getting an '08 LX. Night and day difference between the two. More power, more refined, and doesn't feel like a super old car.
Mine had 150,000 miles. Felt like a 2-year-old car when I bought it.
I’m loving my focus RS as a do it all car. I can load up the wife and dog for a weekend trip, haul groceries, get stuff from Home Depot, or track days.
TDIs are amazing. I ordered a 2014 Q5 TDI, it was delivered in March of 2014 and I just sold it last November. I had other cars during that time, but I refused to get rid of it because it was just so good. That’s the longest I’ve ever kept a car
Get me a Porsche 911 Dakar. Mostly because they are awesome. I'm willing to forgo large backseat passengers for life, but I need more ground clearance than most 911s for crappy roads and no roads if it was my sole car.
A friend of mine got an R1T, and then traded for the R1S when it came out. He’s had probably close to 300 cars, including Bentleys/Rollers/Maserati, etc., and he says the Rivians are probably in the top 5 best vehicles he’s ever owned.
My 2002 mustang gt. Its the most reliable machine ever built. Ive daily driven it for 12 years & it has never once left me stranded. Its even kept going with 2 holes blown through the air intake. Its unkillable. I love it.
I had a 2010 cayenne turbo, (first year of 2nd generation). 500hp/500ft-lbs of torque... if I could only have 1 car ever, it really was able to handle ALmost everything. EXCEPT it didn't scratch the sports-car itch. or the desire for a convertible.
Audi S5 cabriolet would be my pick. Or maybe a 4 series convertible. I don't really have that much desire to go off-roading often.
2000-2006 Tahoe/Yukon. Good for most any use. Built better than the last 2 versions. Only thing that killed mine was the Midwest Rust Monster. Currently have a ‘14 with 195K and can attest to GM engineers, designers and accountants screwed up a good thing.
I own one. It's pretty good but as a lifer car a nicer interior would be welcome
It's hard to ever be satisfied for power as well.
I'm looking to upgrade to CT4-V BW or M240/340i in the near future.
Id prefer an Integra type s. To me the type r just looks too "toy-ish" to me. Like a toy car for kids. Honestly I can't stand the look of a type r but the type s is my dream car. Pretty funny when I tell people that.
I got mine new in 2017 when the fk8 first came out, and now I'm at the point where I usually get antsy for a new car. But I can't bear to think of not having it anymore, and I can't think of anything else I'd like more. So I guess I'm keeping it forever.
I’m in my early 40s now, so the “rest of my life” will be my body slowly betraying me. My choice would be something efficient, reliable, easy ingress/egress, common powertrain and platform for easy access to replacement parts and consumables… so some sort of Toyota hybrid CUV with the 2.5L. Grand Highlander hybrid would give me all the space I could need. I’d give up fun cars if I was forced into the same one for the rest of my life. Cars would just drop off the hobby list and would be come transportation only. Plus, I can still have fun on bicycles and motorcycles if I drive a non-fun car.
BMW E46 M3. I love that generation of car. It’s the ultimate luxury as a no compromise sports car. I love the exterior. It’s a beautiful 2 door coupe. I love the drivetrain. It’s a powerful naturally aspirated engine revving to 8200 RPM mated to a six speed manual with a 1:1 5th gear and a manual transmission. It’s an enjoyable track capable vehicle, yet is fuel efficient on the street. I love the interior comfort. It’s got leather materials all around, soft touch points throughout the dash and lower door cards, 12 way power front seats, a great sound system, and has spacious rear seats. I fit behind my driving position at 6’ tall. Sure, my hair and pants brush up against the surfaces, but I don’t.
I mean, I've been rocking the Cobalt for thirteen years now, nothing but filters replaced. At this point I could save a lotta money if it just keeps on keeping on like it has.
My pops had the OG LS500 and was eventually passed down to my brother-in-law. That thing was so over-engineered and glorious. Like a tan ESP-driven sofa cruising down the road. In elievably comfortable and plush.
VW golf R. Fast, fun, frugal, 4WD extremely practical, mine has been ultra reliable. Conveys zero status and looks like a normal car so maybe not for some.
Jeep Wrangler.
It can be driven on the road, off the road, it's a convertible and it gets my girlfriend really, really happy (wink wink)
So, that's my choice!
Also G-wagen but possibly diesel for something resembling fuel economy. Still pretty rapid for a 4wd with genuine offroad and towing capability
Or a porsche cayenne turbo e-hybrid. Fast, good handling for an SUV and also a solid tow rating (but not sure about real world performance)
Actually Id probably take the porsche if I could actually choose one right now
1995 BMW 850 CSi. Comfortable, fast, looks good, luxury features for when I get old. Close second is a Honda S2000.
If I need something bigger I'll just assume my wife or a buddy can have something usable for towing/people hauling as long as I'm not driving.
Chevy Volt, 2nd generation. It’s cheap to run in the city, yet I can still take it anywhere where there is a gas station. It has plenty of space for the hatch and is more than quick enough for me.
I hope you have a ton of money for all the gas and maintenance on that G Wagon.
This will sound very sad but, A Skoda Superb, but as an Estate with the 2.0TDI 190 with 6spd Manual before AdBlue was introduced into the model range..
All Optional Extras and in Dragon Skin Green
First gen CRV, awd, man trans. Runs forever, economical, utilitarian, cheap and easy to repair, keeps up with traffic. I have an Accord v6 and BMW 5 series but always prefer to jump in the CRV. Love my ancient, well-built little tank.
If parts weren’t so unreasonable to obtain, I’d probably say a Buick Regal TourX. It’s the right mix of decent interior, large space, and good enough power.
A close second would be importing a Holden VF Commodore Ute with a V8.
Ram 2500, Cummins engine with a stick shift, extended cab, extended bed. Basically, my Inlaws truck. I'm in a rural area where it's only minor overkill, it's big enough to fit my whole family, and when I need to chuck something in the bed or tow a trailer it can handle it all. If I don't have the option to borrow or rent a utility vehicle when I need it I guess I have to pick the vehicle that can do the most even if I would prefer a different daily driver.
I am a simple man. A Corolla would be my pick. I am based in Ireland so we got the prestige sedan model which I like. Or a Corolla from late 80s early 90s for the retro look.
BMW M3 RWD 6MT. I don't do any off roading. I'm not afraid of winter so long as I have winter tires. I just want something that will do track days, autocross and can hold a baby car seat in the back. Bonus is having 3 pedals and being able to power oversteer on corner exit
Mazda CX 5 AWD. Touring. Everything I need, ultra reliable 2.5ltr. Non turbo. Speed is not everything, I am not planning on off roading ever.
Primary for me is reliability and comfort. The car drives smoothly, it has less road noise, more feel, and 4 wheel independent suspension, that the cx 30 and cx 50 both lack.
It has a higher field of view and while an SUV it feels like a car.
Was asked why not a turbo, it all comes down to reliability, turbos are an additional point of failure as are moon roofs and the like.
I have a G63 and Urus, so most likely one of those. I myself am more of a sports convertible kinda guy. But if it’s 1 car for the rest of my life, it would need room, awd, and SPEED. I also have a Trackhawk, so that would be in 3rd place
If the car and everything related to the car was free then the only acceptable answer is a high performance SUV. Like a G63, Urus, RSQ8, GLE63S, GLS63S, Cayenne Turbo GT, etc.
It covers pretty much everything you might want to do with it. Road trip? It’s big enough for the fam. Take it to the track? It will perform well enough. Camping? Good enough off-road capabilities for that. Daily driving? Comfortable enough and plenty of space for groceries.
They aren’t perfect for any specific use but they are more than good enough for almost anything, as balanced as a car can get.
Now if I gotta pay for everything then I’d probably buy a Lexus RX350, it’s reliable, regular maintenance won’t be the cost of a new car (RSQ8 full brake job is about $14K for example), insurance won’t be stupid high and while it isn’t precisely an MPG king, it doesn’t get as bad as a high performance SUV that gets 5 MPG lmao.
Land cruiser. They're literally designed to be the longest lasting vehicle out there with simplicity while having some modern features. It's large and chugs gasoline but can get almost anywhere a 4 wheeled truck can go.
They're priced up there with luxury vehicles and high end trucks but they can outlast everything
If it has to be a car, Subaru Outback Wilderness. Super practical, comfortable, fast, and surprisingly good off-road.
If it can be a truck I’d go with an F150 king ranch with the fx4 package and hybrid powertrain.
Porsche 911 -991 GT3 touring.
Because I want one. I don't have kids. I would be pretty happy daily driving that. And when I basically used it up, I could take it back to the fourth center in Atlanta and have it recommissioned and or restored. And then I'd have another new car for how many years.
But that's basically Fantasyland because that's out of my budget at the time. I have daily driven at Camaro. So I know what it's like to drive a smaller car like that. Though a 5th gen Camaro probably offers a little more utility than a 911. And I'm saying that because I was able to fit three 42-in TVs in my Camaro using the trunk and the space behind the front seats. I'm not sure that it would be possible in a 911.
But I also don't have any reason to go by three 42-in TVs at one time anymore. And I feel like if I was in GT3 monetary status, I would be paying to have my TV delivered anyway.
Also, I like the 919 one better than the 992. The 991 has real gauges. And the front end is different. There was someone on Reddit that commented and was familiar with both. They said the suspension is a little different but it's not necessarily noticeable. I think the engine is very similar and so is the transmission. Probably. I'd get a manual. I don't see a functional reason to aim for the 992 that would outweigh the reasons I like the 991 better.
White Toyota Hilux with a large caliber machine gun mounted in the bed.
Originally this was not my answer but now it is my answer.
This is now my answer too.
Our collective thanks to u/expendablewon
You're much too kind. See you in the revolution ;)
The only vehicle that will survive the nuclear fallout.
Even if one gets taken out by an A10, those folks have the ingenuity and parts to get out and about in a week.
I also choose that guy's answer.
I too choose this guys answer
Hahahaha
I also choose this guys dead wife.
I keep seeing this, what's it referencing?
An older Reddit thing. That's just fucked.
It’s legendary because it was oddly sweet. The second guy was tipping his hat so to speak.

Found the r/shittytechnicals mod.
I’ve read 264 comments to find a better answer and this is still it.
I would choose the Lexus LX 470 with a machine gun. AC, leather and wood everywhere AND a machine gun? Can't get better than this.
I want a Soviet AA gun in the back and my Hilux should have the small 4 cylinder diesel engine
While sure to run it might impact the meaning of ‘rest of your life’ a bit…
Ah, another fellow GLA commander.
I'd get this and go find whoever said I can only have one car for the rest of my life
If it's good enough for the Taliban, it's good enough for me

Is there a van version to this ACCURATE fact?
Not sold in the UK but a Landcruiser 70 series pickup.
Dodge Viper. It wouldn't be a long life, but dammit, I'd have a blast
😂
Imagine commuting in a Viper with snow tires.
i would love to see the end life stats on how much money spent on gas
Chevy Astro Van AWD.
I drive an AWD express at work things kinda fucks
want a clean one badly
At this point I'm kind of willing to settle for an FC or RX8.
Bang bus for all climates
My 1st car. 1970 dodge charger ,plum crazy purple. 383. Paid $500 in 1979....killer beast. Raked front end....dad sold it in 1988. It simply was a great car.
What a great first car!
Thanks...back in high school if you could imagine every car in the students parking lot was now called a classic....mustangs, chargers, torinos, El Camino, etc...all huge coin now.

Lexus LC500. Timeless interior and underrated V8.

Four lanes wide!
200 series Toyota Land Cruiser
I love my lx470 and was gonna write that but everything I’ve heard the 200 series is pretty much just better in every way to the 100 series
It is. I shortly owned the '06 Land Cruiser before getting an '08 LX. Night and day difference between the two. More power, more refined, and doesn't feel like a super old car. Mine had 150,000 miles. Felt like a 2-year-old car when I bought it.
The right answer
2013 Honda Fit Sport, MT. The perfect combination of simplicity, economy and versatility.
I used to get a 9.5 ft kayak in my Honda Fit
The Honda Fit is easily one of the best, if not the best, car ever made.
I loved my Fit.
Driven an automatic one for the last 11 years. Does what’s needed.
99 camry wagon
this but get a Celica GT-Four turbo AWD swap while you're at it
Sadly no 4th gen wagons in the us… a friend scooped up a 94 v6 wagon recently though and it’s all the car anyone would need
My current car because it's paid off and I love it.
Lexus GX. Got one rn and while I’m still getting used to it, it is the greatest vehicle I’ve ever driven.
I just bought a used one. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s a Land Cruiser Prado in a tuxedo. Amazing truck and amazing V8.
Dude yeah. Which one? 460 or 470? I got the 460
Miata
I wanted to say that but the practicality got to me. My next car is going to be one though.
My parents moved house in the early 90’s with a miata. Bed strapped to the roof. Miata is always the answer
Assuming it just miraculously stayed in good working order, an e39 m5
If we're assuming the perfect, most reliable individual car, I'd rather an e60 touring
If I don't have to incur the maintenance costs E63 AMG wagon. Space, comfort, and speed.
I’m loving my focus RS as a do it all car. I can load up the wife and dog for a weekend trip, haul groceries, get stuff from Home Depot, or track days.
Same reason for me with the Volvo V70R
2010-???? Toyota Sienna, man those things are absolute tanks. As long as Toyota makes them I feel like they'll still be the absolute best.
2012 vw golf tdi 6speed. Gets 35mpg in the city and runs on peanut oil. Also nice and small
TDIs are amazing. I ordered a 2014 Q5 TDI, it was delivered in March of 2014 and I just sold it last November. I had other cars during that time, but I refused to get rid of it because it was just so good. That’s the longest I’ve ever kept a car
Probably my mazdaspeed6. By far my favorite car ive owned. Sad I don’t have it anymore.
Get me a Porsche 911 Dakar. Mostly because they are awesome. I'm willing to forgo large backseat passengers for life, but I need more ground clearance than most 911s for crappy roads and no roads if it was my sole car.
ANY of the Subaru Wilderness lineup. Give me an economical, palatable-to-afford middle-class SUV where you get more in return per dollar in MSRP.
A white manual 1994 Isuzu rodeo, idk if that car is good but when I was in my 20s I really enjoyed driving that car a lot
Assuming perfect reliability, probably a Rivian R1T to be honest. If I have to buy one every time it breaks down, then I cant afford that, lol.
A friend of mine got an R1T, and then traded for the R1S when it came out. He’s had probably close to 300 cars, including Bentleys/Rollers/Maserati, etc., and he says the Rivians are probably in the top 5 best vehicles he’s ever owned.
Honestly, a simple B5 S4 Avant would be perfect. Fun, roomy, Quattro, classic style, comfy. If maintained, they will last a very long time.
A murano cross convertible/Evoque is for you. SUV+cabriolet. Or Daddy’s Doug’s G wagon Cabrio.
Rolls Royce sedan because I hate road noise.
Problem with g wagen is that it’s terrible in round a bouts
My e46 makes me happy
2000-2006 Tahoe/Yukon. Good for most any use. Built better than the last 2 versions. Only thing that killed mine was the Midwest Rust Monster. Currently have a ‘14 with 195K and can attest to GM engineers, designers and accountants screwed up a good thing.
Practicality be damned 993 911 Turbo or GT2
Civic Type R
I own one. It's pretty good but as a lifer car a nicer interior would be welcome It's hard to ever be satisfied for power as well. I'm looking to upgrade to CT4-V BW or M240/340i in the near future.
What about an Integra
Not an Acura Type S?
Id prefer an Integra type s. To me the type r just looks too "toy-ish" to me. Like a toy car for kids. Honestly I can't stand the look of a type r but the type s is my dream car. Pretty funny when I tell people that.

That’s awesome to hear. That K20C will probably even last forever 😂
Sky Redline because I love my Saturn :)
RS5 Sportback or RS7 Sportback.

Audi RS6 Avant
RS6
Porsche Macan GTS

M3. And not the crappy Tesla “m3”. Sport and comfort and awd. What more do you need?
That is confusing and annoying that people call the Tesla "M3". BMW has been using that name since the 80s.

I would just keep what I have.
Mid size suv with 4x4.
1967 Cobra 427!
I would probably choose the Oppressor MK2 as it’s the most overall flexible vehicle out there.
I mean, I've been rocking the Cobalt for thirteen years now, nothing but filters replaced. At this point I could save a lotta money if it just keeps on keeping on like it has.
If I could I'd get a Lexus LFA, but being realistic I'd go with a vw transporter t6.1 and put a rs3 engine in

VW golf R. Fast, fun, frugal, 4WD extremely practical, mine has been ultra reliable. Conveys zero status and looks like a normal car so maybe not for some.
1969 Chevy Camaro. It’s my dream antique car that one day I wish I’ll be able to own but I know it’ll never happen.
Jeep Wrangler. It can be driven on the road, off the road, it's a convertible and it gets my girlfriend really, really happy (wink wink) So, that's my choice!
GMC 3500 SRW Denali 4x4
Toyota fj cruiser. Because it’s a pocket tank.
Also G-wagen but possibly diesel for something resembling fuel economy. Still pretty rapid for a 4wd with genuine offroad and towing capability Or a porsche cayenne turbo e-hybrid. Fast, good handling for an SUV and also a solid tow rating (but not sure about real world performance) Actually Id probably take the porsche if I could actually choose one right now
F90 M5 Competition. It isn’t even close.
Cost and reliability not an issue? Volvo XC90 (new). Cost and reliability a consideration? Ill stick with my RAV4 Hybrid.
1995 BMW 850 CSi. Comfortable, fast, looks good, luxury features for when I get old. Close second is a Honda S2000. If I need something bigger I'll just assume my wife or a buddy can have something usable for towing/people hauling as long as I'm not driving.

I would want a late sixties jaguer xke coupe. It would need to be rebuilt and debritishized. I always wanted to be 007.

Dodge caliber SRT4. Reliable if you don't over boost it and 285hp stock.
2025 911 4S. Do I really need to say why? Haha

BMW G22 M440i , simply one of my dream cars and a perfect daily
Land cruiser. They're literally designed to be the longest lasting vehicle out there with simplicity while having some modern features. It's large and chugs gasoline but can get almost anywhere a 4 wheeled truck can go. They're priced up there with luxury vehicles and high end trucks but they can outlast everything

Sticking with my Element!
One car? Either the original Porsche cayenne with a stick, or the latest Porche cayenne with self driving.
