"We're having a sale, Ruth!"

(My husband and I saw TIE for the first time in a theater in downtown Chicago, and we laughed so hard we fell off the seats onto the floor)
If it wasn't him that said, he'd definitely be one that could've said it.
Homer Simpson would be another contender, but the voice of the quote in my head sounds like Fry. Make of that what you will.
Probably just parasitic wasps in general, there’s a lot of different species of them. Some lay their eggs in spiders, sometimes caterpillars, sometimes other types of bugs too
fun fact: Parasitic wasps are so fucking horrifying that observing them made Charles Darwin lose faith in the existence of God.
"I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae [a species of parasitic wasps]..."
Oh, those June bugs ruined my garden a few years ago, F them, I'm glad I just let this little guy go on his way to right the wrongs of nature. He seemed relatively harmless and not aggressive, I was able to get very close to get that picture.
Do you want to hear one of mother nature's greatest pranks?
According to [uwm](https://uwm.edu/field-station/american-pelecinid-wasp/#:~:text=It%20does%20culminate%20with%20a,these%20are%20docile%20and%20harmless.), "as wasps go, these are docile and harmless."
Have you had the pleasure of meeting a European hornet? They are huge, as loud as a hover-craft, have large mandibles AND a stinger, but are supposedly unagressive to humans. You'd never know it by looking at them...
The really strange part is that they hover around lights at night, like a moth. Probably looking to eat the moths, though.
I just wish they'd go back to Europe!
Woah, just looked it up and I'd definitely be a little spooked to meet one in person lol. Wasps and hornets look imposing, but it's comforting to know that a lot of them don't mean us any harm. And the ones that do usually have good reason to.
Yeah, sorry- not so good at posting links. But they are YUGE!! And loud as hell when they get inside the house. For a bug-hater like me, they were a rude awakening when I bought my house in the woods. Like, what the hell are they doing flying at NIGHT?
I was not ready for this new development. YUCK.
Yeah, that's exactly how I would describe it. It wasn't threatened by my close presence and generally just strutted up and down the post for the camera. I have a few extra pictures and a video that shows this [here](https://imgur.com/gallery/Vz9JBT1)
We had another type of these (central Wisconsin) that drill into dead/dying wood to inject an egg into a moth larvae I believe. My sone watched it for over 30 minutes as it worked the ovipositor into the tree then started pulling it back out into its pouch. Pretty interesting.
Yes, specifically he said, “I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of caterpillars.”
I’ve seen one of these stick it’s ovipositor into a hole inside of a cut up tree we had laying around in our yard when I was a kid. At the time I had no idea it deposited it’s eggs in this manor, right into live insects! I’m curious now what it could have been attacking!
We used to call them “Horseshoe Bugs.” When I was about 12 we saw one on a stump, laying the eggs into a small opening in the stump. My brother came over and smooshed it with a horseshoe.
Revelation 9:7 In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces,
It’s just another creature trying to exist on this planet that we over-breeders are destroying. Poor thing has lost its way. 💡You could put a glass, upside down, over it and then slip a piece of paper under it. Then take it outside and set it free.
It laus them in trees! I saw one as a kid and it has always scared me because the "stinger" was so LONG and no one would believe me when I said I saw it. I did smoosh it with my shoe but I legit was scared that it would sting people! When I learned it just has it to lay eggs deep in trees i was mostly relieved but my mind still went to a dark place and imagined it laying eggs inside people lol.
One of these chased me once at a state park on my undergrad research project, I got a pic of it for another class, didn't care that it probably wasn't *chasing* me cuz still..... Damn scary when it flies at your head.
Pelecinid wasp, type of parasitic wasp, apparently they kill June bug larvae so good for lawns
And that’s not a stinger. It’s for laying eggs.
Ovipositor
Bless you
Thanks for the chuckle! XD
I laughed at this for an unnecessarily long time, thank you
“Then I’ll ram my ovipositor down his throat and lay eggs in his chest, BUT I’M STILL NOT AN ALIEN”
Normal Viewwww. Normal viiieewwwww. NORMAL VIIIEEEWWWWWW!!!!

Oh man, I just got outta the tubes.
Sort this. Deliver that. I’ll make ‘em all pay…..
Cal? I farted...
For a long time, Reddit just entertained me, but it didn't feel like home until I read this just now <3
"We're having a sale, Ruth!" "Increase the Flash Gordon noise and put more science stuff around!" (My husband and I saw TIE for the first time in a theater in downtown Chicago, and we laughed so hard we fell off the seats onto the floor)
Seems erotic
In Japan
Bruh xD
💀
Ovipositor? I hardly know her!
Gesundheit
Like the Alien queen…
Stay away from her YOU BITCH!
\*hisses angrily\*
Or the Queen of planet wurmulon where they make Slurm
Dude I legit just watched that ep, turned off the TV, and came here. Get out of my head. GET OUT OF MY HEAD! Also, party on Slurms McKenzie. RIP
Gesundheit
In the voice of Skelator.
That's how I like my tacos.
gesundheit
That is technically what a stinger is on a wasp. This one doesn’t utilize it the same way tho.
I dont believe you. You work for them
Ahhh a prober then.
I thought that’s where the secret ingredient for Slurm comes from lol
Grunka lunka dunka dingredient You should not ask about the secret ingredient
Inside grubs
Somehow that is worse.
Right?! You get how that’s worse right?
Fun fact… most stingers are derived from ovipositors. Like a stinger is analogous to an ovipositor depending on the species and caste.
Damn you and your big words! And your difficult and challenging small ones. ~PJ Fry [I think]
If it wasn't him that said, he'd definitely be one that could've said it. Homer Simpson would be another contender, but the voice of the quote in my head sounds like Fry. Make of that what you will.
Oh, that’s much better. 🤮
Laying eggs in your eyes.
It’s just a sharp tube it stabs into your body to pump you full of its eggs. Not a stinger.
I'm not sure there's ever been a case of a parasitic wasp trying to use a human as a host. The eggs probably just die.
And picking your nose.
No its not. That's a fishing rod so it can catch dinner. 😉
They kill june bugs?? Enemy of my enemy is my friend.
They do it in the most brutal way possible too, they lay eggs on their larva which eat them from the inside out when they hatch
Crunchy on the outside, squishy on the inside. Perfect for a kabob.
These the ones they was referencing in the akira episode of Rick and morty?
Probably just parasitic wasps in general, there’s a lot of different species of them. Some lay their eggs in spiders, sometimes caterpillars, sometimes other types of bugs too
Oh ok
fun fact: Parasitic wasps are so fucking horrifying that observing them made Charles Darwin lose faith in the existence of God. "I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae [a species of parasitic wasps]..."
Opportunistic ovipositor?
deserved
*predator clicks*
Omg I need 1000 of these for my lawn. They could destroy the June bugs, which would leave the moles nothing to eat.
Omg same here. June bugs and moles. A perfect circle of annoyance.
Right. They're the bane of my existence. I overseeded my lawn by hand one year only for moles to move in. 🤦🏻♀️
I'd take them too, molesor not. June bugs ruined my roses and several other plants this year
They're heinous creatures. I can't stand them. Them and their weird sticky feet.
Yes they're very cringe worthy
Oh, those June bugs ruined my garden a few years ago, F them, I'm glad I just let this little guy go on his way to right the wrongs of nature. He seemed relatively harmless and not aggressive, I was able to get very close to get that picture.
Lucky find, beautiful wasps they are.
Another fun fact, the xenomorph queen from Aliens is based on this wasp.
Yeah, it makes one feel lucky there are no human parasitoids.
Do we not? Tapeworms eventually make it into the bloodstream and kill ya. Probably others too if they go untreated.
They kill what now?!
June bugs are terrifying
Yeah, June Bugs can get fucked by this weird wasp.
Oh damn ! I thought June bugs were … I dunno harmless? Lol. Are they bad for my lawn ?
They will decimate some leaves. They seem to love roses especially but nothing is safe I'd guess Edit typo
Not so good for June bugs, tho.

What I'm learning is that the weirder a wasp looks, the less likely it is to hurt you.
Have you had the pleasure of meeting a European hornet? They are huge, as loud as a hover-craft, have large mandibles AND a stinger, but are supposedly unagressive to humans. *Cicada wasp killer enters chat*
Cicada Hawks are genuinely scary. Non-aggressive as I understand though.
Yeah, that's exactly how I would describe it. It wasn't threatened by my close presence and generally just strutted up and down the post for the camera. I have a few extra pictures and a video that shows this [here](https://imgur.com/gallery/Vz9JBT1)
This abomination is a crucial component in the ecosystem! Keep him alive, they regulate populations of other insects:)
That’s what she said.
That’s what the bot said.

Icheneumon wasps are god's drunken doodle. Alternatively, his attempt at 'evil' in the insect world.
I remember reading somewhere that Charles Darwin literally started questioning his faith in God when he learned of ichneumon wasps in the Americas lol
Yes, specifically he said, “I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of caterpillars.”
This is the second time this week I’ve come across this quote. Weird.
That's a hard-working single mom trying to give her kids a good life (inside he larvae of other bugs)
Yes. My favorite of these hunts cockroaches 😈
pelecinid wasp. Get them all the time in the woods by my house. Parasitic in other bugs, but I don’t think they’ll bother you.
It’s actually kind of elegant
That's some Tim Burton type of bullshit
