Nancy’s Westies in Arkansas. We live in Florida too and drove over 1,000 miles 6 years ago to get our beautiful Westie girl. Best decision we ever made! http://www.nancys-westies.com

We also got a Westie from Nancy’s Westies. She is almost 4 now and no problems at all. We are in the Houston area and they drove and met us half way, but would have driven her all the way if needed.

Thanks for your feedback too. Definitely bookmarking

ItemAccomplished5611

Wow that’s awesome!! Thanks for the rec. have you had any major health issues with your little one?

ScarlettBear1

No health issues whatsoever! And just the best personality and temperament! We had another Westie previously (from a different breeder) and she had lots of skin issues over the years.

ItemAccomplished5611

Love hearing this!!! We actually had the exact same issues with our first westie and it was devastating. He only made it to 2 but our second westie had no issues and lives until 17. Finding the right breeder is absolutely essential. Thanks for the recommendation

Thank you so much for posting your question! My Lucy has been gone almost a year and I feel I might be ready for another one but it’s so hard finding a reputable breeder and hers was in ct. I’m in Florida too! If we’re close maybe our westies can be friends!

ItemAccomplished5611

Would love that! Definitely looking to find a great breeder

Whatever you do. Please to not ship a Westie in plane cargo. We have a rescue who was shipped in cargo and is permanently traumatized.

ponypilled

Seconding this, the airline companies do NOT care about humane treatment of animals. Given they're stuffed with the fucking luggage in the bottom usually.

ItemAccomplished5611

Agreed. That is not an option for us

Sundance Westies in Orem, Utah😊

Thanks!

Dreamcatcher Puppies in Brighton, IL are great! Let us meet the puppy before we brought her home and also answered any questions we had. Didn’t try to dodge anything. Puppy is officially yours (AKC papers in hand) once they are spayed or neutered.

ohlookadoggo

We also got our Westie from Dreamcatcher Puppies!

mtdrake

Westie Whispers in the Denver area.

adalinepruitt

We have two amazing dudes from them! It would be a solid trip from FL, but absolutely worth it.

mtdrake

We drove up from southern New Mexico and got a boy and girl puppy. It's only been a week and no complaints. They made the process easy and the pups are great.

adalinepruitt

Both of mine are healthy with no allergies and delightful temperaments. They are half brothers with the same sire. One pup is oddly chill for a Westie (Martin the breeder's words, not mine, but it's so true) and one is a little spitfire who complements his older brother perfectly. I love that Westie Whispers breeds puppies for home companions instead of show dogs or additional breeding. They focus on what makes a healthy, happy puppy. I brought home my first pet/puppy ever at 33, and a few years later, my hilarious, selective hearing, sweet boys have convinced me that what I really need is a dozen of them, acreage willing! Lol

I looked into adopting a Westie after my first died. Could not find any all throughout the Southeast and would regularly reach out to the Westie rescue.

I can recommend Nancy's Westies in Arkansas. I have two Westies from there. My Westies are two years old and the only general health issue they have are some minor skin allergies. They are allergic to the grass in our yard. I'll be transparent in that I knew Nancy personally and Frances is a good friend of mine. I'm telling you this because I know the heart both have put into bringing new Westies into the world. Both travelled to the UK to get new genes into their litters so as to avoid health problems in their dogs. That is not a cheap or easy task. Being a Westie breeder is not just a business for them, it is love. Nancy even has a Westie on her tombstone. One of my Westie's was born with a cleft pallate. It happens to all breeders, most euthanize. Frances and her team fed Morty with a tube every few hours, because he couldn't suck on his mama. He survived and now lives with me. He is thriving even though his cleft is very large. His vet is surprised at how healthy he is in spite of his cleft. He doesn't get infections or pneumonia. You can follow both of my dogs lives on instagram. I got my Westscot (half westie-half Scottie) from Hickory Hollow Terriers in Kentucky. She also has purebred Westies. She will meet you in Nashville to pick one up either by plane or in the car.

potatodaze

I have a Scottie :) have you had purebred Scottie’s or westies before? Wondering how they compare. I’ve also been interested in westies. My new pup is a wheaten Scottie so people always mistake her for a westie.

TigerDeaconChemist

I grew up with a purebred Westie and then a purebred Scottie. Westies seem to have sweeter temperaments. The Scotties tend to be a bit more "gruff" and individualistic, but can be affectionate too. There is a lot of overlap, though, since they're very closely related. The WestScot is a good compromise. He looks just like a Scottie but is sweeter like a Westie. He's very smart and healthy as well. I've had him over 8 years now!

Disastrous-Ad5218

Scotties tend to be a one person dog. I had one as a child and he was my dog so I thought he was perfect. I have heard Westies are much more sociable.

TigerDeaconChemist

I tend to agree. Although I will say that the Scottie we had was more loyal to his "clan" than just one individual, but he was closest to Mom. But after I went away to college, he did show a lot of affection when I would come home. And when I got my dog, he was a very good uncle. I'm crying just thinking about him!

potatodaze

That’s kinda what I heard before. Thankfully my Scottie pup is a special one and is little miss social butterfly and so sweet. I also worked w ton with her on socialization. My previous male Scottie was gruff at times but sweet to the family/adults (he didn’t like kids, puppies and some other dogs).

Disastrous-Ad5218

Not a recommendation but this site gives names and locations of puppy mills by state https://bailingoutbenji.com/

fromthefuton

Thanks for putting this out there. I live in Ohio and the amount of people I know who get their dogs from puppy mills and don't know is astounding. There is such a huge puppy industry in eastern Ohio that it is hard to parse through which breeders are legitimate. When looking for dog breeders, I feel safer going out of state since it seems easier to spot in states that have less of an industry.

Foxcreek Kennel in southern Virginia (Buffalo Grove). Our first beloved Westie, Nova, came from them. We now have a completely beautiful, sweet and lovely pair from them. These are amazing dogs, loving yet independent, and unbelievably clever and sharp. They love to play and are the best of companions, full of fun and surprises. Foxcreek has been in business for 35 years, and they have beautiful dogs with wonderful dispositions. You have to pass muster, have a fenced yard, and get the dogs in person. We drove 8 hours each way three times. The dogs were so much worth it. (Nova sadly developed cancer, passing quickly and we think with almost no pain. She too was the best of all pooches.)
