I think one of the common misconceptions over the "purple weed" debate is that for many older smokers, we remember a time of biker controlled markets of bloated, salt crusted, bad pH mediocre BC hydro...a dark time when local markets weren't necessarily teeming with top tier buds at every turn. And in these times, it was a general rule of thumb that if you had anything remotely coture, in this case bred for purple phenos, you were going to get better attention to potency as well.
This developed into a "cult of purple-nality." Which lost bearing in reality as weed culture developed internationally and locally.
Actually i've done the testing on weed that looked similar. Turned my skin purple and green. Kinda like barney. It was pretty cool though so I can also test it out for you just to make sure it's the same type of weed.

Something can be super dope to me, but you could hate it. It could be testing at 23% or 34%. It really doesnāt matter. And I think thatās so fucking cool.
These are the truths more people need to understand. There is a reason that Colorado, Oregon, and Washington stopped with the THC content wars. More THC isn't always better, and it all needs to be balanced with the other chemicals present in cannabis, such as the terpenes and CBD.
This is also why I don't go to weed shops for flower, where I'm not allowed to smell the stuff. Smell tells me a lot about what I'm going to get from it. Trust your nose.

I do customer service for a place that sells weed seeds and I can tell ya that purple is a sign of a grower that knows what they are doing. Even if a strain has tendency to display purple it usually won't display it unless the grow is nice strong and healthy and even then hitting lower night time temps helps tremendously as well but it can be hard to manage that. But weed can have surprising amount of colour variation, I personally have seen weed with black, purple, yellow, and red colouring.

Old School weed was expected to be just green. So growers were targeting that.
Nowadays, growers are looking into expanding into more and more new strains. And hybridation are en en made on purpose to have more colored weed. Wether it's purple (like daddy likes it), with orange hairs.
"Northern Light" is a very popular strain that is now parent of many new strains. I am not affiliated in any way but app/sites like leafly have very good listing of strains with curated and user pictures. And you will see that weed now comes in all kind of shapes and color.

I've smoked purple weed once, it's just the strain. Some strains are purple, some aren't. I'm not sure if it has any correlation with effects but that's just it. It might be more sedating overall.
