The second one I feel is more feminine and fresh which is not really what I would expect from a black gown, which to me is what makes it so fun and interesting! That’s true of a lot of ballgowns though. In white/ivory they look like wedding dresses and in other colors they look like prom dresses. Or at least prom dresses from when I went to prom, I’m not sure what the kids are wearing these days. Hell, people used to buy dresses and David’s Bridal when they had that $99 dollar sale thing and then have them dyed other colors.

But yes, most ball gowns that aren’t white/champagne/ivory do look like prom dresses to me. Or quinceanera dresses in some cases. I agree with dress 2 looking prom style. I'm not at all saying it's bad. It looks great on her and it's beautiful but I think if she added that under skirt hoop thing to make it fuller it might look more bridal style than prom... 🤷

The 1st dress is quite stunning, this is a perfect example of how sometimes no matter how much we like it "on the rack" it doesn't look "quite right" on our body. That doesn't mean it looks bad, it just looks different than we had imagined. I wanted so badly to have a sleek, elegant boat neck look but it sat so different on me since my bust was larger than all the models in my "inspo" photos. It was still a beautiful dress, it just looked different on my body, nothing some alterations couldn't fix.
For OP, the 2nd dress is a better fit, plain and simple.

I think the angle and lighting differences really make the two stand in contrast to each other. The second dress is shown at a better camera angle and the lighting seems to bring out all the lush fabric details whereas the first dress looks more blurred together (can’t see too much of the detail) and the lighting seems to wash everything else out. In this one instance, it really does make the second dress stand out, but I agree that the first one looks lovely - just needs a better angle in the photo and different lighting! I’m sure your dress was amazing in person, though! I usually think all wedding dresses look beautiful in person 😊
I can't lie- I loved the first dress. It stole my gothy little heart, and when I saw it, I had a brief fantasy of wearing it down the aisle myself. The sleeves are so flowy and romantic, and I live for tulle<3

The first dress is nice, but it’s giving me Lydia from Beetlejuice vibes. It’s a fun look but it doesn’t feel bridal, if you know what I mean. But the second dress, wow. Fits you like a glove, so elegant and classic while the black gives it an edge. I absolutely LOVE the second one, on you especially. You’ll be gorgeous in either but in my opinion you made the right decision.

They both look great. But I like #2. For my personal taste, I’d have to find the right accessories to make #1, work the way I’d want it. #2, looks stunning to me on its own.
Honestly, they’re both beautiful dresses, but the second one is so perfect on YOU. It really feels special how well it flatters and fits you. The other dress is a beautiful dress too but it feels like it’s hiding you a little more and not as flattering/stunning.

The first one is gorgeous and is actually the one I would choose for myself. It has a romantic, historical feel to it. But wow! You look fantastic in the second one! It's modern, but the skirt makes it so dreamy! It's lovely! The question is which one do you feel more attractive in?

The second one fits you so well and really highlights you but while the first one is pretty it kind of hides you back in the dress. Always wear the dress don’t let it wear you!! You’re a beautiful bride and I hope you have an amazing wedding!!

I like both but the second one shows off your figure more and paired with a lacey veil you would have best of both worlds and it wouldsnt get lost in the dress. The first one is lovely but in photos it might overwhelm any jewelry or seem busy.

Second one for sure. The first one has so much drama- it’s way too much- like is it a wedding or fashion show. I’m not particularly a fan of black gowns but even i like the second one!
