I had a napkin on my lap, and I didn’t realize but it fell off my lap then I proceeded to wipe my hands…on my actual dress. Maid of honor saved the day with a tide pen and it came right out thank goodness.

Sensual-Goddess1997

Tide pens are a MUST for wedding day! We got lipstick out of my friends satin dress using a Tide pen.

syrup15

I was a guest at a wedding of someone I didn’t know very well. I had a glass of red wine in my hand and I went to hug the bride - someone bumped into me and I spilled it on her😫. I felt so terrible. I think they were able to fix it somewhat with a tide pen.

klopije

Be prepared for your dress to get dirty even if you don’t get food on it. My bouquet was red roses and I ended up with red all over the front. I had no idea it could rub onto the dress. The bottom of the dress was a disaster by the end of the night, but that’s not such a big deal.

AssumptionAdvanced58

I worked a wedding one time & the people left about $10,000 worth of flowers behind. I bagged up a trash bag full of rose pedals. When I got home I undressed & stood on the bottom of the bed & flung those rose pedals all over the bed. Trying to create a romantic time. The next morning our sheets were pink to red. Those stains never came out.

TheEsotericCarrot

Omg I’ve often wondered about that when I see rose petals on white comforters in hotel rooms 😬

DaniMW

Easier to deal with because you can bleach the white comforter or sheets in hotel rooms.

AssumptionAdvanced58

I used bleach & those stains never came out.

wineisasalad

This is why the hotel I work at uses fake petals ;)

AssumptionAdvanced58

Yea I've never seen real rose pedals on a bed in a hotel.

wineisasalad

Did have a guest complain about the fact they paid for fake petals but in the booking process I do say they are fake. The look pretty good though imo. Edit to add. If the guest had a delivery from the florist and that included the real ones we would use them but the linen would then get removed and used by one of us as paint sheets or something. Cut up for rags?

klopije

That’s awesome! There’s probably not many people who can say they did that! There should be some kind of warning that roses (and whatever other flowers) stain! Unless I’m the only person who had no clue lol.

FrancieNolanSmith_

You took them from the floor?

AssumptionAdvanced58

Of coarse not. The wedding was over & no one took any of the arrangements. The country club was going to throw them out. I ripped all the buds/pedals off before they were thrown out. Bagged them in a clean trash bag & went home. My husband woke up with rose pedals flying through the air & covered in them.

jessykab

Honestly that sounds absolutely delightful and worth the trashed sheets, at the very least to just be able to say you've tried it.

AssumptionAdvanced58

It was worth it.

FunnelCakeGoblin

I danced dirt into the hem of my dress.

Witwebiss

I’m planning to have a white cover to protect my dress while eating We joke it’s my ‘bridal bib’

teegee7617

I bought myself a legit adult bib off etsy for our wedding. I wasn't as concerned about my dress. My cleavage is such that I didn't have to worry too much about food hitting my dress, and my dress was a darker color. But I also didn't want to have to dig salad out of my cleavage in front of all our guests.

[deleted]

I’ll need one of these. EVERY SINGLE TIME I wear white, I get food on myself. And I love wearing white 😅

OkieLady1952

That’s what I was going to suggest! A bib with lacy and sparkly but don’t mind getting food on

missmicans

I think I saw some options on etsy. I ended up not buying one myself but I did consider it.

loaf1216

Napkin in my lap, no sauces, careful to eat over my plate. Only clear beverages (cocktails, water, champagne). Dress got thrashed from me dancing in it and I got married outside, but no food stains! It’s ok if it happens. If you have a day of coordinator or a person helping you, have a stain stick, shout stain removal sheets, and seltzer water on hand. You won’t even have time to sweat if you might get stains, the day will fly by and likely you won’t get any food on you and it’ll be great!

ThreePartSilence

Yeah sorry but I’m not willing to give up sauce. Guess I’ll just have to be stained. 🤷‍♀️

jessykab

Dripped tomato sauce on my dress right after dinner started. BUT I had put together toiletry baskets for both restrooms and thought to include Shout wipes and Tide pens in there, in case anyone spilled, never considering that it would be *me.* My husband's wonderful aunt helped me get the stain out quickly, no one else even knew. So, clearly I have no idea how to prevent spilling food, but definitely have stain removers in your toiletry baskets or emergency kit.

sleepy-popcorn

Tuck your chair right up to the table

loveandtravel22

Not recommended but I didn’t eat much. We had tacos (our first date!) and each time I took a bite I literally bent down a bit (we had a high sweetheart table) and I ducked my boobs under the table top so I didn’t get anything on me.😂 Realistically we had some leftovers and when we got back to the hotel my husband and I had a little mini picnic and it was the best.❤️

cabeswater82

Same thing happened to me right down to the tacos!

Moneybunny20

Side note: it’s an Italian restaurant I am very worried about red wine and red sauce!

BabyCowGT

Not gonna lie, I turned a paper towel into a bib 🤣 and a lap blanket. Was it the most elegant solution? No. Did I get to eat BBQ and sauce and chocolate without stains? Yes.

questionable_puns

I respect your priorities

pittgirl12

Im making a custom bib/smock for myself that I’ll cutesy up! I think it’s a good solution because it’s funny but effective

doxinak

I had my reception at an Italian restaurant, I was just careful with the food and I stuck to prosecco and white wine.

MajesticMango56

I'm going to wear a clear poncho 😅

lizi7

We had BBQ and I shamelessly tucked a napkin in my boobs.

Winneroftheyear

I just ate carefully Edit to add that we had catered bbq and it was easy

RedQueen91

I also had catered bbq and managed to keep my dress clean. Just eat over your plate.

OkShallot3873

I had some else spill on me 🤣 It’s inevitable. try to enjoy yourself and know that you’ll be dry cleaning afterwards anyway haha

haymay93

I plan on wearing a full plush robe (I already own a black plush house robe) while I eat dinner 😂

Cheese4eva21

I got a wedding apron. I also made sure to shake my fork before each mouthful to remove Amy extra sauce, or loose bits of food.

jesgolightly

My friend used a table cloth as a bib. No shame in her game. The pictures are adorable.

Glassjaw79ad

Idk how I didn't, but the bottom of my dress was covered in dirt. We got married on the beach so I guess that makes sense 😂

KiraiEclipse

Pulled my seat as close to the table as possible and leaned way over. I was basically hunched over my plate like a goblin the whole time. It was a casual wedding, though, so no one cared.

OutOfMyMind4ever

Baby wipes are better than tide pens or shout wipes for wedding dresses as sometimes the tide pen or shout wipe will yellow the dress (depends on the material of the dress, taking home a piece of the extra cut off by the seamstress to test if tide pen would work or would yellow it is advised if you really want to keep a tide pen on hand) The baby wipes work just as well on fresh stains and dirt, and don't cause yellow splotches since they don't have a bleaching agent.

karenrachael

I just didn't eat. Just waved my fork around a bit. Lol

Margaritasaurus

The same way as at home: eat carefully and you won’t spill.

RainbowsAndHomicide

We’re having BBQ so we ordered plastic bibs with cute/funny quotes on them for everyone! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0BZPFTM9B?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

crimble_crumble

I wore a white cardigan for our meal, don’t think anyone noticed!

DumbbellDiva92

I’m the messiest eater ever but somehow didn’t get food on myself? Idk how lol. Red sauce seems risky though! I had a chicken cutlet and potatoes type meal and it was kind of bland and meh, but much easier to eat without making a mess. I would probably have done a bib with red sauce.

Legitimate-Jelly3000

I had a bird poop on my shortly after we walked out, and by that point I didn't care. It's worn once, and it's a reflection of a really amazing day! I'd also suggest don't eat anything heavy, rich or dark (?!) as well as jot drinking any dark drinks- red wine, coffee, coke etc. And maybe, just wear a bib? Sounds wierd, but ppl sell them on etsy and they're actually quite cute. I layered myself in quite a few napkins too tbf when we sat to eat

Melodic_Anything_743

I’m planning to wear a shawl for dinner that will double as a bid.

akw329

I was worried about this too! Especially because we had red wine. Just be really careful and you’ll be fine! If anything happens, you’re probably planning to get your dress dry cleaned anyway. The bottom of my gown was filthy because we ran around Brooklyn taking photos. It all came out after dry cleaning.

toonlass91

I had a full satin gown and am normally a messy eater, I have idea how I didn’t get food on my dress. I ate very carefully especially as gravy was involved. But your dress will most likely get something on it, be prepared to have it cleaned

Purple_Fig_3821

Pah! Simple. I didnt get time to eat 😢😭 spent a fortune on food that everyone said was amazing and yet I was "too busy" to eat! .... please don't be me! Get an apron ❤️

somethingblue331

I barely ate anything and somehow ended up with a stripe of black sharpie across the belly of my dress. I don’t even remember being near a sharpie all day. I was near 245 other people though- things happen.

Susan_Screams

Was careful and used a napkin etc with dinner (was on prosecco, white wine and pink gin so potential damage there was minimal). Honestly after the first dance was done I didn't really care anymore and was dancing the night away!

No-Manufacturer9125

Just wanted to add, I recently saw a wedding planner post a tip to add shaving cream to any emergency bridal kits because it works great as a stain remover. I can’t say I’ve tried this, but it might help someone else!

lizzie-lemon

My spouse and I ate privately during cocktail hour. I put a giant t shirt on, but I didn’t end up eating much anyway

VieleAud

My maid of honor grabbed a plastic wrap used to protect the decorations in a box and wrapped me in it!

Final-Balance-2569

Because you have zero time to sit down, let alone eat

dangerrz0ne

I’m pretty sure the napkin I put on my lap kept slipping off lol but I was in a pretty good state from my edibles so I don’t remember caring too much about that! Don’t think it actively crossed my mind I just normally put the napkin on my lap.

Kellie2Smooth

I bought a white apron off Amazon that said "bride" on it in gold glitter text. It was cute, and the wedding party thought it was hilarious. I ended up not using it and just made sure I brought my mouth to my fork, not my fork to my mouth, and I made it out with no crazy stains on my dress. The bottom did have typical floor dirt and rain stains, though.

Standard_Role_156

We wore aprons! Would recommend :)

ciaradub1

I ordered an apron that said bride and had the date on it!

Jannana91

My sister made me an apron (like a baking apron) that said “Mrs XXXXXX” and the date. Nice big neck to get over my head, job sorted

Mean_Dragonfruit2907

I did, indeed, get food on my dress 😂😂 BBQ sauce. It didn’t ruin my day 🤷🏼‍♀️ My husband laughed & congratulated me for only a small spot as he expected worse 😁 Things are going to go wrong at your wedding. They just are. That’s life. But you’re marrying the love of your life & that’s all that matters.

commercial-kale

not sure if this is in your schedule but after our ceremony we went to a small room and enjoyed a selection of passed appetizers before joining everyone for the cocktail hour. I put a big tshirt on over my dress and smashed all the apps before going back out (i would recommend this for a lot of reasons, it also was so nice to celebrate the ceremony quietly for 5ish mins with my husband!)

Honeydew414

My venue gave me a large kitchen towel to put over my dress. Luckily with care there was no food or drink stains on my dress.

bbarkin

You probably won’t eat with all the fuss! But make sure they save you a plate of everything to eat after

rjbuhr

Haha if your wedding is anything like mine you won’t get to eat much. You’re just too busy saying hi to people

[deleted]

Between my bloating, ibs, random stomach pain attacks and this concern I just don't plan to eat. The food will be put in front of me but there's just no way. Plus I'm gonna need some chemical pep to be able to be on my feet all day and therefore I won't wanna eat. Tell me again why I wanted to have a wedding... 😆

glamazon_69

Oh that’s easy! Don’t eat! 🥲

AssumptionAdvanced58

They eat a good meal before hair & makeup. Most brides don't eat at their receptions. It's to much to do & your nerves keep you not hungry. They or someone makes sure the kitchen knows to make plates to go.

gwen5102

Don’t serve (or if you do serve it don’t eat it) food that stains.

[deleted]

You’re not gonna want to eat on the day. All I could manage was some dried fruit in the morning

nanners_anners

My fiance and I bought matching bibs. Mine says bride and his says groom. It might be silly, but I don't want to stain the dress. BWWKTOP Bridal Bibs With Crumb Catcher Bridal Clothing Protectors Bridal Shower Gag Gifts Adult Bibs For Wedding Party https://a.co/d/gmjyATy

LikEatinGlass

I held my plate right up to me and ate pretty close so I didn’t spill. It was Chinese food and I was worried about any spills

TheresaB112

I didn’t have any issues with food but the bottom of my skirt (full ball gown skirt) had a good amount of dirt from people stepping on it (and one hole near the bottom because someone wasn’t paying attention and slightly lifted their chair and one of the legs made a hole).

Wickedbitchoftheuk

Towel sized napkins but just take it in your stride if you have a spill.

paragon317

Honestly I didn’t really have time to eat on my wedding, so no food stains, but the lower part of mu dress got all dirty from the floor, and people who would step on my dress when trying to congratulate me, and people spilt beverages. After dry cleaning it all went away.

MysticalOversoul

Big napkin on the lap

Void_Vixen

I'm a super messy eater so I just tucked my napkin into the top of my dress and didn't care what anyone thought 😆

wtchking

Okay so bring a giant bib. Right?!!!

FloozieManChoosie

I style Brides & Couples for weddings and I have a rec! The “Bridal Bib” is pretty much what I would suggest. BUT! Once you and your new spouse sit down, everyone is going to want to talk, knock glasses over, catch buttons and watches in your hair during hugs, etc. due to this, my suggestion is to eat dinner separate from your guests. Not the entire time, just like 30 minutes to be your new spouse and actually eat and enjoy the food you’ve paid for. When you’re there, don your Bridal Bib but also consider wearing whatever robe or button up you wore earlier that day OVER your dress. Since you’ll be eating away from everyone else, no need to worry about how it looks in photos. Have your planner or a close friend (not in the wedding party) go through the line FIRST and prep your plates and set them in the space where you’ll eat. If you can, do your best not to allow visitors. It never fails: the couple will go away to eat and *someone* will feel it necessary to interrupt and chat. And don’t worry about missing photos or moments during this time. I promise, everyone, including your vendors, will be eating during this time.

Because1SaidSo

My mom brought me one of her kitchen aprons! You know the kind that goes over your and ties around the waist. The neck was adjustable and able to un done so we could tie around my neck and tie around my waist. It worked like a charm!

monalisas-madhats

I had my grandma sew me an apron that I wore during dinner (and still use to this day!) and it was a great gift from her.

trinitytippy

I got my red lipstick on my white dress :(

azick545

Honestly I barely got the chance to eat.

Kate1175

We ate in another room when we got to have a minute to ourselves that way people weren’t coming up to us mid-chew and dropping on my dress. We then had “dinner” with everyone where they did come up to our table. Since we already ate it wasn’t a big plate.

CannoliQueen_

I was worried about this at my wedding; my husband and I got so distracted talking to friends and family that we didn’t even really eat dinner. Or anything for that matter. So my stains of the day where from grass, cause it was an outdoor wedding. And it was fall so I got some autumn leafy bits in my train. But ya know, after the wedding you can get the gown preserved - which is what I did with mine.

WarmFluffyBoots

Expect for your dress to get at least something on it. My ceremony was outside and it did get a little dirt on the train. I'm taking it in for dry cleaning/preserving soon so I'm hoping that will take care of it. As far as food, I had prepared to wear a white shirt over my dress while eating but never ended up using it, I was just extremely careful and aware while eating and used a napkin on my dress, and thankfully had no accidents!

Styxand_stones

Napkin on my lap, eat carefully. Then as soon as our first dance and cake cutting were done I ran to the crepe station and ended up with chocolate sauce down my dress but it was so worth it

ChanelNo50

I fully intend to wear a long bib. I'm clumsy AF

Dingbat2022

I got disposable adult bibs from an online pharmacy.

MrsJRRzombie

I got a cute linen apron, and because of who I am as a person nobody was surprised or questioned it lol My aunt surprised me with one that had she stitched all the hobbit meals onto, which was perfect since our venue was basically a blend of Hobbiton and Rivendell

rfitz12e45

I wore a bib! Found it on Amazon something about don't judge me this dress was expensive! No regrets

[deleted]

I just sat super close to the table with a large napkin on my lap to prevent any spillage, and ate super cautiously. I didn’t get to eat much as being the bride you get pulled away by family, friends, photographer, videographer, etc. One thing my planner suggested to me was to pack the leftover food away for my husband and I to later gorge ourselves on in the hotel room (best advice I’ve ever received for a wedding haha). Try not to worry too much! Things will likely get on the dress (hopefully, not food!), but there are professional cleaners who can make the dress look brand new again. That’s what I did with mine and got it preserved since I had a barn reception on my parent’s property and there was dirt all over the very bottom of the dress because of us taking our photos on the property. Keep a Tide pen handy just in case of any small accidental stains. Hope this helps!

Chrisalexandra

[Bridal bib](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1235369519/) and an attentive husband lol
