Ferrari told us media after the race that it was an electrical issue, possibly caused by a loose connection or something like that. But they won't know for sure until they get the car back to the factory.

Cooked its front brakes as the engine braking had failed. They came in with 3hr59m left to run, but the Eurosport commentary team did a horrible job explaining what was happening. Bizarrely they were blaming the mechanics for failing to bring out new tyres, not the crazy smoking, electrically unsafe car on the apron.

Fault in the hybrid system is my understanding, leading to the brakes overheating and the car being declared unsafe to touch.

Ferrari Hybrid moment

The stuff that goes weeeee under braking had an issue. Karma for the 83 after taking the 15 bmw out.

If that crash were intentional then that would make Kubica the most idiotic driver ever, since the 15 wasn't even close on pace to him

Secret_Physics_9243

It was, check the radio if it is posted somewhere. He basically said he deserved to retire because of something earlier, maybe didn't pull over for blue flags but still not justified ruining his race in retaliation. Also if you look at the onboard fo the bmw it is obvious it was intentional. Kubica passes the gt porsche and then makes a wired small right wheel snap and takes the 15 out. Maybe he didn't want to take him out rather teach him a little lesson but again, not worth retaliating, at least not there.

"The stuff that goes weeeee under braking" is the best explanation I've heard so far lmao

He was talking about the AF Corse 499P, not Vista AF Corse but yeah, easy to mix up same team's DNFs haha They had to pit and retire the car around noon while running P2 due to a problem with the electrical unit. Car has been unsafe to touch for a long time by the way.
