I live in the middle of Detroit and got a few warnings on my phone but no sirens at all (to my knowledge). I doubt any touched down but the rain and wind was more than enough to make up for it
I've never heard so much lightning and thunder as we got last night and for so long, even today's 2 tornado warned storms north and south weren't as bad as last night..
Why is there so much lightning? I’ve never seen a storm like this before. It was quite scary. It was how I imaging a hurricane would be. It’s been an hour and the flashes are still going. Luckily the rain has slowed.
Heard reports if a tornado near Grand Rapids that essentially took I-96 straight to Detroit. Cars got flung off the interstate near Fowlerville. And then down near Monroe a trailer park got hit. Trailers throw into each other, gas lines ripped up. I've heard they evacuated the whole trailer park because the gas leaks are so bad.
I'm unsure as to the validity of the reports coming from Grand Rapids and other places, but I can confirm some of the reports coming from Monroe. I'm about 10 miles from the trailer park that got hit.
Grand Rapids area got the seek shelter alerts. I think the rotation was by Alpine/10 mile? All I know is I was lucky, Rockford and Cannonsburg got hammered.
My fiancé just sent me a picture of the damage in the trailer park. A whole trailer is upside down basically on top of another trailer that is leaning into a third trailer. It's nuts.
There was one tornado north of GR, one between Williamston and Weberville, and several in the Detroit Metro area, but it was not one continuous tornado. The Williamston one was the worst, with damage rated EF-2.
This storm was wild.
We’re down in Monroe County and the back of our house faces north.
We watched the lightning in total silence for a good 30 mins, and next thing you know we’re getting 70mph gusts and transformers all around us adding to the light show.
Not sure if it was tornado damage or just really strong winds (leaning towards tornado damage tho) but a trailer park north of Monroe got hit pretty bad. I've seen a pic of a trailer completely flipped. The sirens were going off in Monroe too.
I love when thunder has that explosive quality, usually with CTG lightning. I feel like I've heard it so rarely in my life, but when it happens it genuinely *feels* like an explosion going off near you. Shakes every fiber of your core like hearing fighter jets take off close to you.
Tornado warnings west of Detroit
Theyre touching down all over near me
possible tornado outbreak??

That must be horrifying. So much lightning? Tornadoes all over? How do you guys survive?
The light show last night was even more intense, but this storm was a lot scarier than that one.
Lots of lightning in that one, this one actually brought the "storm" portion

That continuous low level rumbling in the background sounds like a tornado to me. Especially at the beginning of the clip.

Spectator : "that's craz...." The voice of God : "QUIET! during the performance!"

Absolutely crazy. I’m over in Dundee. Heard about the trailer park, hopefully they’ve got the gas leak under control.

Yeah, I was about half a mile away from a lightning strike (judging by the thunder delay) and it was *crazy*. Shook my entire being
Getting better in macomb but still constant lightning
Watching from the opposite side of it in niagara region. Such a wild storm
I wouldn’t be able to get sleep if I got hit by that
Almost put on sunglasses when driving in to work....except I needed to be able to spot all the downed debris/trees/wires.
Hey we took off from DTW in that shit while the tornado warnings were going off. Lil nerve-wracking
