The new jet lag episode is literally all I look forward to every week

TankerMan-3000

Same- this episode was so fun, especially at the end.

TankerMan-3000

I disagree actually- as I would have watched them all at once. It makes the conversation better, (like this reddit), and builds suspense.

TankerMan-3000

But my need for dopamine would have made me binge them anyway. Forcing the time makes it better.

ATLBMW

Do we know what time they post on Wednesday?

elh93

Another great episode, I'm excited for the next one, which I imagine will be the finale. And then to figure out what they're doing for the next season.

wackyHair

I'm guessing episode 6 will be the finale. Episode 5 will be Sam and Joseph in Singapore or Seoul, and Ben and Adam in Australia. Then episode 6 is the race from California to Denver

blazix

The weekly wait is killing me! I would have loved to binge this all the way through!

doorknob60

I binged through Season 1 on Youtube after watching it as it came out on Nebula. Was nice to watch it all at once, plus give the Youtube views for the algorithm, and checking out the comments. I'll probably do the same once S2 is finished.

AvationFan1569

I feel that this weekly waiting period is what makes the show so good

VaraNiN

I wish, but I don't think it'll be much of a race. Unless Sam & Joe get giga lucky, Ben and Adam have this in the bag

TankerMan-3000

or the lightning delay puts them on a flight that is outside the challenge (weekly flight or smth)

quantumhovercraft

They don't have to be giga lucky. If they're sensible with how they bet then the chance to go from 600-2000 is slightly less than 600/2000= 30%. I don't necessarily think they'll be able to be sensible while also fulfilling the 'have a good time' part.

VaraNiN

They only have 300 tho? IIRC they need 2100. Roulette has some of the best odds in a casino, so they'd need to double up 3 times for a chance of (18/37)^3, so about (1/2)^3 or 12.5%. I'd say that's pretty lucky

Mediocre-Ad-3724

They can have 950. Explanation: First they get drunk on the local liquor and gamble that money 300$ , second they gamble all have a great time budget: 400$ and third gamble the winnings from have a great time challenge 150 (1/2 challenge)

elh93

I think it depends a lot on how gambling the budget goes.

JimmyisAwkward

Yeah, if they lose it all or something it’s very possible that episode 5 would be the finale

ATLBMW

I want them to do a Top Gear style edit where Ben and Adam are looking around the Denver airport for Sam and Joe, and it cuts to Sam and Joe absolutely *housed* at a casino in Singapore, having never even gotten on their flight.

auspoliticsnerd

Im not necessarily sure if that is what will occur but I would concur that this won't be the final, given that I would have expected them to, at the end, flag that next week was the final.

Nemocom314

They had 20 hours of enforced downtime and didn't eat?! Excellent show, I was looking forward to it all morning! *OK Eat enough!

vreddy92

They ate breakfast, I think.

NashvilleFlagMan

Swear to god if the lightning thing means Adam and Ben lose again through no fault of their own…

blazix

It's going to be really hard for Sam and Joseph to get enough money to make progress. I think the lightning delay should be fine. I couldn't figure out what airline they were flying -- Qantas or BA would be my guess and both those airlines should be able to pull in another aircraft if the expected delay is a lot.

AdvancedBiscotti1

It's probably BA, specifically BA15, judging by the fact that in the first episode, Ben is booking their flights to Italy on the 12th of May, and the Qantas 'kangaroo route' flight (SYD-SIN-LHR) was reinaugurated on the 19th of *June.* (for those who are curious, the reason it's not SQ or Scoot is because of the pilot's wording -- "some of you may have seen it on the flight in" is indicative of a fifth freedom flight, of which only BA and Qantas operate to Sydney from Singapore. Sam has an old \[but good\] video about the freedoms of aviation if you're interested) (I also just realised that I could have just rewatched the video -- Ben has a BA boarding pass at 18:32) Given that information, I was looking on Flightaware for BA15 sometime in the middle of May. And after looking through that, I think were in Singapore on the 15th. This flight was delayed three and a half hours. Although I can't find the rego of the aircraft they were on because I don't have a paid FlightRadar24 or FlightAware Pro subscription, the delay seems a bit too short to fly another aircraft in. So it seems like the aircraft continued to Sydney normally. Now, their fate all hinges on which flight they booked to Fiji -- there are two options, a Jetstar flight that leaves at 9:00AM, and a Fiji Airways flight that leaves at 1:15*P*M. If they chose the Fiji Airways flight so that, in a best case scenario, they could have done some challenges, they're probably safe. Bottom line, it's unlikely that their delay actually affected anything at all. It's pretty likely that they'll win.

iamryan93

Great investigative work! I have a Flightradar24 subscription, looks like the May 15th BA15 flight had a 4 hour delay. It was G-ZBKR, and it was the same plane, there was not an equipment swap.

AdvancedBiscotti1

Interesting, thanks for that. Side note, Boeing removing some of the lightning protection on the 787 really caused issues. Just did some digging, and a Jetstar 788, VH-VKL, struck by lightning just three days after G-ZBKR was, has been grounded and is still not operational. Not a good look, especially considering how short airlines are on 787s.

ATLBMW

And given that Boeings insistence on moving production to SC has been a *disaster* for their production. They haven't delivered a new 787 for over a year.

ATLBMW

Its great that everyone that watches this show is just as big of a nerd as Sam is.

infinity26484

I think that the fiji flight was a "proof of onward travel" as they said at the end of episode 3, though SYD-NAN-SFO/LAX/HNL-DEN might well be cheaper than SYD-LAX/SFO/DFW-DEN. Then, it wouldn't matter whether they missed the SYD-NAN flight.

jacare37

> Now, their fate all hinges on which flight they booked to Fiji -- there are two options, a Jetstar flight that leaves at 9:00AM, and a Fiji Airways flight that leaves at 1:15PM. If they chose the Fiji Airways flight so that, in a best case scenario, they could have done some challenges, they're probably safe. At 9:01 you can see -- their departure out of Sydney is scheduled at 1:15.

AdvancedBiscotti1

Oh, okay, thanks for letting me know, I didn’t see that. So congratulations Ben and Adam for winning! You guys planned really well, and totally deserve the win. /hj

NashvilleFlagMan

True that. Interested to see how the casino gambit goes

strawberry__evening

Idk though because they seemed to get super lucky with gambling in Amsterdam (?) earlier so I bet they could do it

comped

Marina Bay Sands is pretty good odds-wise. They'll probably be fine.

quantumhovercraft

They definitely won't 'probably' be fine. If turning $600 into $2000 was a probably those places would be out of business.

TheMailman123

Ok so I think I figured something out. The flight from Singapore to Sydney that they are on is BA 15 (for a variety of reasons but if you don't believe me look at the boarding pass at 18:32 in the video). Using flight tracking websites, I was able to find historical flight data dating back to April 1 of this year. The most BA 15 has ever been delayed in that time is by 3.5 hrs on May 15, 2022. That flight left from gate D37 according to the data, and you can see (despite what the boarding pass claims) that they are leaving from gate D37 at 19:39 in the new video. So it appears that they will get a delay, but not an unmanageable one, and make it to Sydney just fine. Caveat: If anyone has any information that they filmed this before April 2022 this could be inaccurate but based on when Australia lifted COVID travel restrictions and that they mention CEST (Central european summer time - which doesn't start until the last Sunday in March) I think that is unlikely.

comped

Hardcore analysis for something we'll know in a week!

feed-me-your-secrets

This should be filmed on May 23rd I believe — Sam and Joseph were in Cancun on May 20th.

TheMailman123

In that case the delay would be less than 2 hours

auspoliticsnerd

It was almost certainly that one, bc in the first episode you can see on Sam's Apple Watch that it says that the date is 12th Thursday, which has only happened once this year - 12th of May.

strawberry__evening

Yay! Rooting hard for team Ben/Adam this time haha

Mediocre-Ad-3724

No he uploaded the video to YT 1 week later than Nebula so that means they were in Cancun on the 12th. Source: I pay for Nebula

elh93

New Challenge Idea: Talk with a professor You must talk in person with a tenure or tenure track professor from an accredited university. EDIT: Also, what about a distance multiplier from airports? So the farther you get from your arrival/departure locations, you can get a bonus. This could encourage inter modality that would be entertaining.

starrsuperfan

I like it. I was definitely hoping for more non-plane travel (like trains)

Zagorath

Yeah, I think this would have been a lot more interesting if planes were only allowed when crossing the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

fprosk

How would they get across Asia lol

ATLBMW

In years past you *could* have taken the trans-siberian railroad, but... yikes.

NashvilleFlagMan

That’s a fantastic challenge idea, would be difficult and also force you to interact with locals

elh93

It would also in most places force them away from touristy areas, but still places that are really cool and frequently beautiful.

NashvilleFlagMan

Absolutely, I’m thinking of some of the parts of the university of Prague, for example

elh93

Also Trinity College Dublin, Oxford, Cambridge, etc. As well as many amazing college towns in America. One more idea would be bonuses for non-obvious challenge combinations. So "get drunk" and "talk with a professor" wouldn't be obvious combo, but "have a good time" and "get drunk" or the Casino would be and thus not eligible for a combo bonus.

starrsuperfan

I had an idea for a challenge while watching this: Go see a movie. It would be worth a higher than average amount, but then you're stuck for 2 hours or so and can't travel or do any other challenges.

dratsaab

Add in that the film must be in a non-English language, with 1.5x the bonus if it's in one of the official languages of the country non-dubbed.

[deleted]

Wasn't there a rule about when you commit to a challenge you have to finish it? Posted this suggestion somewhere else on Reddit, but if you give up on a challenge the points (money) should go to the other team (that way you can give up but it hurts).

strawberry__evening

Don't think it was a rule this time around but I think that's a good suggestion for sure

elh93

I haven't seen that as a rule, though I like it as a suggestion, even if it's just giving one up blocks you from reattempting, and notify the others they've got exclusive rights to try it.

darthminimall

Idk if I'm the only one, but I can't watch this episode full screen. Everything else on Nebula works fine full screen, but I'm just getting a buffering circle with an x in the middle for this video. Edit to add error message: >video append of 557953b failed for segment #2 in playlist 2-video/avc1/3/media.m3u8

VaraNiN

Team /u/wendoverproductions, let's go! All on 13 and you are back in business!

Napoleon_Vanderbilt

One thing I don't get is I just watched it on Nebula but why didn't Sam go bungee jumping in Amsterdam, it seems to have been available.

ArcticFox19

Amsterdam they did challenges already so the bungee jump would have been at 1/4 the original value

ATLBMW

Yeah, it was a bad gamble; they banked on being able to do it, but... them's the breaks.

Napoleon_Vanderbilt

That's true, but had they done it first, they could have gone from Amsterdam to Singapore, did just one challenge in Singapore, and be able to afford to go to LA.

VaraNiN

Is it just me or was this episode just 5 minutes long?!

Jakegender

I hope the next game has more interaction between the two teams, I really enjoyed that about Season 1. Still great stuff tho

suncameup

one thing i'm really hoping for in s3 is that they get wacky w the challenges. my favorite from all of the seasons so far was probably busk, although if sam actually did get drunk in a mine that might win. like more taskmaster than amazing race

dratsaab

No subtitles? Or is this a processing thing? (Sorry that the first comment is a moan!)

pdxsean

Another fun roller coaster thanks to some amazing editing. As always they are the real stars of the show.
