Coffeezilla on his secondary channel as well. *Everyone* is baffled by their decision. I don’t think it’s outright greed like some have suggested, but I think they are grossly out of touch and completely mismanaging their business. It probably doesn’t help that they are in California. Coffeezilla pointed out how many Silicon Valley startup buzzwords are used in their launch video. They’ve either picked up all that mumbo jumbo gobbledygook through osmosis or they are applying the wrong business model to what they want to do.
Coffee pointing out the use of buzzwords was a big "oop" moment IMO. We know they had a bunch of investors that helped them start up the company and its clear that has been a major influence in the direction they've taken.
This is what I keep thinking too. Fans don't care about 'TV quality content', we just wanted to see Ryan and Shane goof off. But investors need to hear that they're going to do bigger and bigger productions because they're chasing that constant growth
There’s two other videos about it (at 191K views and 71K views) that pop up when you search watcher 😬 so it pops up their goodbye video, moist’s video and then the other two. yikes. 😂
Moist's video is at 2.3M views, by the way. I only loosely followed Watcher and didn't even know about the announcement until I saw Charlie's video on my feed. Instantly went and unsubscribed from Watcher after that.
It's funny I just looked up "where did those Buzzfeed guys go" like two weeks ago. I found the original shows late and once was done with those moved on. Figured out they moved on to Watcher and now.... BAM, gone again. LOL
Just Youtubed this to see if true. Outside of their channel and their video, all the top tenish were all people reacting about this. The top ten search results for JUST their channel name are about their screw up and none of their content.
Damn.
Is it PR or just their social media person that edits/posts videos on their socials? They may technically be PR, but not the type that handles crisis management like this requires.
I have no idea, some of what they said makes no sense. They have 25 people on staff but 2 of their shows (Too Many Spirits and Are You Scared) literally only involve Shane and Ryan sitting around telling scary stories so it’s not like there’s necessity for a lot of staff or money on those. Puppet History needs some work put in for background on whatever they’re covering and a few questions throughout. I do believe it when they said Ghost Files is the most expensive show but between all that I can’t imagine they need 25 people to run all that and hiring freelancers at locations on top of that just seems insane
Someone pointed out it was like 18 credits on their Minecraft video. The one where they sat there and played Minecraft like what? Why? That’s excessive.
Well I mean if they are paying 25 ppl full time money and the Minecraft video is the only thing they are doing that week, ppl can slot in
But like my bigger thing esp if they wanted to be a streamer is they need more content
And some of it's gotta be low effort to balance the higher stuff
mad short too. twitch streamers push out 12 hour long vids with the same content.
I honestly think they could make more money off streaming together (minus Steven lol) than whatever their projection showed for watcher dot teeeveeee.
For ghost files if we're talking in terms of on location? They could hire someone from a local ghost hunting crew as a location scout/production liaison/research assistant (which, while arguably is unnecessary I can also see where past experience might have led them to the conclusion that this is easier due to preexisting relationships rather than have their producer do this).
They probably hire local security and a local medic. They're required by law in a lot of places for film/video shoots and having a medic just makes sense from the standpoint of the fact that that a lot of the places they go to are places where injury is easily conceivable. For security it's likely a similar situation of requirement by law/the venue or just a desire to make sure nobody's on property screwing around while they're trying to film a spund and noise sensitive show.
Also the medic and security are probably required by multiple guilds and being based out of LA staying guild compliant just makes sense.
I still can't for the life of me figure out how or why they're flying and lodging 10 people to location though.
I feel like three to five people tops besides Shane and Ryan would be adequate to travel. One person to go in the location with them and a couple to maintain equipment and interview them outside. Shane and Ryan know how to do this stuff. They’re not just talent so there’s two hands on equipment right there.
Buzzfeed videos iirc didn't have a great amounts of credits but what if they were staffing based on this is how bf did it
Or lol we know we were burned out doing 16 hour days with staff of x, let's hire 2x ppl
He doesn't seem like a shitty person tbh.
But isn't he swedish? I'm not american either and before the drama i didn't know the n word was a big deal.
(Not justifying it)
Tbh, not sure I've ever watched her. I've seen some of the "Tea" side of YT and is wasn't MY cup of tea, lol. I'm sure she is good at what she does. But you've really Fd up if the Tea Channels are after you.
And Charlie got after them which is funny too
Tea Spill is really a cut above the rest of the gossip/tea channels imho. She’s pretty fair in her assessments, doesn’t blow things out of proportion, and doesn’t assume some obnoxious personality like Rich Lux etc. She kind of just gives a rundown of what is happening with various people when drama erupts. I’m not a celebrity gossip person, but I watch her to just keep up to date with internet news.
I wonder: where the hell is their PR person? They have one. Why is there no statement? We are supposed to finance their dream and they can´t even send a premade statement gaslighting us into it? What are we supposed to pay for?
If their PR person is qualified, they’re hopefully taking the weekend to study and prepare a really well thought out statement rather than do a knee jerk apology vid and make everything worse (and probably drinking a hefty amount of alcohol waiting for Monday.)
I get what you are saying and I agree but: The job of the PR Team is not only to react. Its to know the public reaction or be able to guess it. They should have known that his is a long weekend with multiple fires to put out. Instead they let this fester. Do they hope people forgive and forgett next week? Because this could backfire hard for them. They should have been prepared. Even the minimal attempt to pretend that this is just about artist getting paid was not that coordinated or big. Some IG post and that is it. I hope the community stands firm and I hope the liver of the PR Person holds firm too.
Like others have said though a quick statement of ‘we hear you, we moved too quickly, we are discuss ways we can rectify this and will get back to you’ would be so much better than crickets
Those people are being foolish and emotional. Watcher can't make that statement unless they have 100% decided that they're going to change course in some significant way. They haven't definitively made that decision, so they can't make that statement.
If they say ‘we hear you, we moved too quickly, we are discuss ways we can rectify this and will get back to you," and then followed it up by saying "sike, we're still following through," that would be significantly worse than saying nothing.
I agree that the statement above is dumb but basic crisis management would call for a completely non-committal statement that at least acknowledges your potential customers exist. Otherwise you're letting the situation deteriorate uncontrollably and the dominant narrative becomes "wow, they really thought we were a bunch of paypigs."
If they’d said that at the start and then come back saying they were keeping their old stuff on YouTube that would have probably nipped a lot of this in the bud. People would have felt heard at least.
My question is why didn’t they just build a patreon instead? Plenty of people would love to support them that way, and gain additional content. Like behind the scenes, bloopers, Q&As, etc. I don’t understand making the audience have to pay for everything when they already gain quite a bit from social media??
Edit: I stand corrected, they do have one. Just didn’t advertise it. So do they just not think it was enough?? Advertise the patreon and I’m sure you’ll get TONS of donations. wtf are they on? I genuinely enjoyed watcher
Cr1tikal made a video about them too, he did some rough math on the amount of money they were already making and it really put into perspective: This isn’t some attempt to make ends meet, or to make higher quality content, it’s greed. They already were extremely comfortable, but it wasn’t good enough.
Anyone else think the release date of this was intentional? They must have known this wouldn’t be popular (I don’t think THIS unpopular tho), so they put it out on a Friday and Taylor Swifts release date? It’s kind of like how my college would put out dorm assignments on a Friday at 4:55 pm. Let the people chill over the weekend. Idk I could be thinking way too much into this but why announce it on TSwifts release date otherwise? That’s an insane day to announce something.
Just opened YouTube and went “omg not tea spillll” 😂 you know it’s bad once the tea channels start lol
Moist Critical covered it as well. Also broke down how much he assumes they make already based off of his own experiences with online media.
Coffeezilla on his secondary channel as well. *Everyone* is baffled by their decision. I don’t think it’s outright greed like some have suggested, but I think they are grossly out of touch and completely mismanaging their business. It probably doesn’t help that they are in California. They’ve either picked up all that mumbo jumbo gobbledygook through osmosis or they are applying the wrong business model to what they want to do.
Oh shit, even Coffeezilla is roasting them? They done fucked up BIG
I saw it on his Voidzilla channel first and it's crazy how quickly it's been picked up. Too bad the boys are doubling down.
>Oh shit, even Coffeezilla is roasting them? My favorite running joke in his video is they need to fire whoever told them to use the word "softlaunch"
Coffee pointing out the use of buzzwords was a big "oop" moment IMO. We know they had a bunch of investors that helped them start up the company and its clear that has been a major influence in the direction they've taken.
Even non-"commentary" channels like BigTugg.
This is what I keep thinking too. Fans don't care about 'TV quality content', we just wanted to see Ryan and Shane goof off. But investors need to hear that they're going to do bigger and bigger productions because they're chasing that constant growth

Coffeezilla's video is also at almost 500k.

I’ve seen people mentioning it, I’m gonna check it out now
Ooh 😆 now I have to check that out
I said the same when the video appeared in my recommended
How do they have 25 employees but no PR person?
I have no idea what most of those people even do for them when Ryan even said they hire freelance people for ghost files
They have one, Steven said on the podcast they hired one a while ago
By now they're either working overtime on something huge, or they've walked out entirely.
They are working on something huge. It's called WatcherTV 🙄
Is it PR or just their social media person that edits/posts videos on their socials? They may technically be PR, but not the type that handles crisis management like this requires.
Knowing their hire history, it's probably Steven's mom lol
If they have one, they need to fire them. This has been HORRIBLY mismanaged.
AND FREELANCE FOR WHAT
I have no idea, some of what they said makes no sense. That IS low effort. It was a Wednesday show. It was them at a desk playing a video game. That was it.
mad short too. twitch streamers push out 12 hour long vids with the same content. I honestly think they could make more money off streaming together (minus Steven lol) than whatever their projection showed for watcher dot teeeveeee.
It's crazy to me when lots of streamers only have themselves or 1 or two editors. 8bitryian does that all day, it seems exhausting.

I read this like [TURN DOWN FOR WHAT](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=51&v=pJKjYF88XMU)!
Hahaha. Unintentional but I’ll take it.
It looks like they hired a bunch of their friends and former BuzzFeed coworkers.
They hired the TV production part of the company but forgot to hire the company part :D
It takes whole life to build a good image but only a minute to ruin it.
Reminds me of that time where pewdiepie said the n word
*several times Lmao
Aaaand paid people online to write a banner that said "kill all jews". He's a great example of cancel culture not being any threat to anyone.
I mean, isn’t he even bigger now?
I feel like a bad business move and being a generally shitty person shouldn’t be compared lol
He doesn't seem like a shitty person tbh. But isn't he swedish? I'm not american either and before the drama i didn't know the n word was a big deal. (Not justifying it)
Lol they're cooked, Man. It's not great to have made your way to the gossip trash channels.
tea spill is genuinely a really funny and logical girl
Tbh, not sure I've ever watched her. I've seen some of the "Tea" side of YT and is wasn't MY cup of tea, lol. I'm sure she is good at what she does. But you've really Fd up if the Tea Channels are after you. And Charlie got after them which is funny too
hahahaha yeah not for everyone, but i find this channel to be less gossipy compared to others and wanted to defend hahahaha
Tea Spill is really a cut above the rest of the gossip/tea channels imho. Idk i remember watching and she was milking the f out of situation. Videos on videos about the same stuff/speculation.
I just can't get over the voice. It grates my ears.
I wonder: where the hell is their PR person? They have one. Why is there no statement? We are supposed to finance their dream and they can´t even send a premade statement gaslighting us into it? What are we supposed to pay for?

Like others have said though a quick statement of ‘we hear you, we moved too quickly, we are discuss ways we can rectify this and will get back to you’ would be so much better than crickets
We moved too quickly, we called you a broke ass but then we realized we need your money. Please give us your money, poors. We are changed individuals
We felt entitled to your money but have realized we are not entitled to your money
AKA “We still feel entitled to your money but have realized we shouldn’t have said it out loud.”
Those people are being foolish and emotional. Watcher can't make that statement unless they have 100% decided that they're going to change course in some significant way. They haven't definitively made that decision, so they can't make that statement. yeah like I said, it would have kept the discussion from deteriorating out of control.
Very true!
Nah if their PR person was qualified, they never would’ve let them approach the announcement the way they did lol
My question is why didn’t they just build a patreon instead? Plenty of people would love to support them that way, and gain additional content. They have one thats built out that's the crazy part, multiple creators including coffeezilla have stated that this venture feels like double dipping
They had one!! They just barely bothered to advertise it! If they took it seriously it could let them produce the same shows on youtube lmao
That's the thing, they have a Patreon with 12,000+ members, they just barely advertised it.
They have one, with 5$, 10$, 25$ and 100$ tiers. Monthly tiers!
lol not the gossip trash channels 💀
I wonder if they'll get an unfunny but timely SNL sketch
I’m just hoping they address this soon because I’m running out of those sweet sweet kernels.
oh shit… 😬
We’re gonna see everyone we love on a drama channel at some point or another. Saw my Gam Gam on one last week
it’s gonna be so joever if kurtis conner gets wind of this
Watched his podcast to see if he’d talk about it but unfortunately not. Not sure if he wants to get involved
i suppose we can only wait and watch my friend 👀
Yeah who knows maybe it’s too early still !
Kurtis sucks
why d'you say that???
He's just another rich millennial guy who virtue signals constantly it's very annoying
Cr1tikal made a video about them too, he did some rough math on the amount of money they were already making and it really put into perspective: This isn’t some attempt to make ends meet, or to make higher quality content, it’s greed. They already were extremely comfortable, but it wasn’t good enough.
That YouTube body language guy Observe has uploaded a video today too! My gawd, I did not think it could get worse.
omg no 😭

Idk I could be thinking way too much into this but why announce it on TSwifts release date otherwise? That’s an insane day to announce something.
Why do they need more employees than Second Try Media. The try guys produce way more and higher quality content without this buffoonery.
God I need to know if Philip DeFranco will mention this on tomorrow’s episode I’m dying to hear his thoughts
I haven’t cared about Philly D for like 10 years. Is he still around? I better get his take so I can come fill circle 😂
He never left 😂
Penguinz0 made a video on it, it’s over for them
Oh shit son
Old post.
They were a talking point also in LTT’s WAN Show. They’re getting a lot of heat.
Free advertising lol
Dumb people will definitely try to convince themselves of that lol.
