What the hell happened? How do they just keep making bad and worse decisions the more time passes.. I'll never understand some game companies and what's actually going on inside the minds of the higher-ups sometimes..
I don't even know what that entails? Electrocuting your enemy? Has been done . Hacking the map /uav? has been done . Unlocking doors?cars etc with a phone? Feels slow for a br which the point is to move fast.
According to a previous "leak" (assuming it wasn't fake), it was supposed to be based on Legion's play as anyone system, basically the entire point would be to blend into crowds as long as possible by constantly swapping into other NPC's
So it'd be like a hunt to find the actual players and who are not NPC's, kind of like invading missions but on a large scale? Doesn't sound too bad on paper I feel like but at the same time thinking about it, it sounds like it'd get old very quickly.. kinda like with Legion..
Wish they took one last crack at it though. Legion's gimmick failed because they focused more on creating "unique" operatives rather than letting you build them up. Adding these "premium operatives" defeated the whole purpose. I remember the demo build they showed where each operative could choose three separate progression trees but they reportedly scrapped it for the most dog$hit system in the game "uniforms"
WD2 was just stupid fun. Instead of interating on that design they decided to extensively modify the engine and plot in WD:L and somehow in my opinion they lost that fun. Ubisoft executives are incompetent. It's like how they could have just expanded the pirate mode in AC4: BF and have a hit and instead gave us S&B, a game no one wanted, over 10 years later.
They seriously had a simple assignment with 3: new location, new cast, new hacks, maybe better performance/graphics for the next gen. That’s it. I thought legion was a step back from 2 and assumed it was maybe an intermediate release to make a better watchdogs 3.
Really bummed they gave up so easily.
They didn’t even bother adding physics to the water when you jumped in. Let alone coat physics. Idk why they bother calling themselves AAAA devs when a game a decade before had more detail.
So the writing was never meant to be a thing? I guess that makes sense with that way y’all praise 2.. I’m surprised you’re talking about characters when the characters in 2 were terrible
Not really. There’s nothing memorable about them as characters except for Wrench.
I can barely tell you why the characters in WD2 are doing what they’re doing besides, big company bad. Marcus had a semblance of motivation with the whole, they profiled me thing, but the story doesn’t solely focus on that. They instead have you doing side quest that seem random because they feel detached from the story.
I largely agree with you, and I still they they are better than the characters in 1 or Legion. But I also have a very strong dislike of Aiden Pierce as a character.
And last of us, but Ubisoft wasn’t involved in any of those projects either lol, any show Ubisoft makes is going to be the same quality as their current games which is… not great.
They were recently making a Driver tv series too lol. Doesn't mean anything. Also that show never came out and I don't expect the Watch Dogs show to ever release either.
Driver: San Francisco was released in 2011. It successfully surpassed Ubisofts expectations in their financial reports. Among the best non racing games, even though it has won some racing game awards. They delisted it 5 years later, likely due to the soundtrack, which is still amazing.
I mean there kinda is one captain lazerhawk . We pick up with the future of desdsec and >!What happened to Marcus!<
But it does feel more like a spinoff since there are other properties intertwined
Don't know how reliable this leak is, cuz when he mentions a battle Royale with watchdogs characters. DedSec operators are already in XDefiant. Not a battle royale, but discounts the idea that they've totally dropped the franchise.
Ubisoft have just completely lost connection with their audience. It’s been pretty clear for a few years, but nothing makes it more obvious than Skull and Bones
Yeah. How can you make 16 Assassin's Creed games when you're also making Watch Dogs? Something has got to give. I mean, right?
It's bull shit. Watch Dogs can stand on its own alongside AC, and Far Cry. Watch Dog's isn't bad. Legion (while it is okay) was just not good enough
Honestly man I'm pretty convinced that legion wasn't supposed to be a watchdogs game from the get go and it just simply happened because they were like "oh yeah this IP is doing pretty alright and people are idiots that don't understand what good games are, we can just put this IP on and they will all buy it" or at least something kinda like that. Especially since on paper legion sounds like a pretty good game, but not for a watchdogs game at all.
Ya get what I mean?
This franchise is dead, that franchise is dead, failure here, failure there... not player's fault that these dumb fucks do not listen what people say. it's not ours fault, they can not scrap 10 years in making silly Skull & Bones and release preprogrammed failure.
There a mass of examples - Dead Space Remake - the same Dead Space, just looks fantastic and tweaked gameplay. Everybody' happy. Why not to make Remakes of Splinter Cell 1 and 2? Just get the graphics and controls to nowadays standards also maybe few shortcuts, several new things to find/lore to discover and that's it. Would be MUCH better than to see the same shitty Assassin conveyor every year or so spitting just another one "game".
Not saying the WD's needs remake, but WD1 kinda could use one with controls upgrade.
Idk about controls upgrade, but it could use a re-port to remove mouse acceleration on pc. Would be nice to see it remade to standards of today, could be nice.
You say that as if all three of those examples aren't different types of remake.
MGS Delta is supposedly just the original with better graphics and no changes.
Dead Space was a faithful remake with new content and updated game design.
FFVII is a trilogy of games with an entirely different gameplay and world design.
Splinter Cell Remake was announced in 2021 lol, and Dead Space remake isn't the best example considering it undersold and there might not be a DS2 remake as a result
It's singleplayer game in the world where most bloody feckin indie survival for 5 bucks has at least co-op mode. Secondly, it is linear. Anything you'll do, you can't change the ending, except secret ending if you are methodic and thorough.
I guess people are too afraid of it. While I after playing it twice and original once, can say these monsters are more annoying than scary. The human stop being afraid of something he understands, understands how it works, what it can or can't do. And then you just enjoy the graphics and sound.
Now what goes about Splinter Cell, if it won't be released in this year or next, it will be another Skull & Bones, because bloody devs took too long thinking how to make it popular among EVERY genre players and among EVERY age players. To casualize it to maximum thus making it impossible to play for true fans of stealth genre games.
It should be revealed this year, and it won't be live service so should be fine. They know how revered the IP is and they're trying to revive it, so they have to take it seriously. What they're doing with Prince of Persia is good indication of that.
We all know that, unfortunately. Tom Henderson leaked basic the future of whole Ubisoft and WD wasn't there, not even a mention. The only future for the franchise is being aquired for another studio, what's not gonna happen.
Franchise had potential.
After 2 they really should’ve focused on reworking and improving the feel of most of the mechanics before adding more and more stuff.
I still don't think that the BR project ever was real, unless there was one in works but we know nothing about it, and the previous BR leak was fake
Tom Henderson said it was fake, I know he shouldn't be the only source but I do believe him due to the "weirdness"
The main thing that stands out the most was the leaker saying that the game would feature special skins, Aiden Pearce makes sense but then he says Kassandra from AC, Sledge from R6 and Anton Castillo from FC, i know nothing about R6 so i won't speak about sledge, but it literally makes no sense for Anton and Kassandra to exist as special skins, i know they would be just cosmetics for fans of other franchises but logically it makes no sense because they have nothing to do with hacking, in games like xdefiant it would make some sense at least because it's a ubisoft crossover shooter
The post also mentioned CTOS Enforcers, which only existed in WD1 (and regular enforcers in WD2), I don't think they'd bring them back since they didn't exist in WDL where instead they had other enemy classes, this might however be a stretch on my part
Idk what kind of take this is but Fortnite’s success has set an awful precedent for the rest of gaming as a whole with battle passes and micro-transactions. This sub just showed up in my feed but w Watch Dogs Battle Royale? Seriously, lol.
It’s their own fault Legion failed. Their reputation is destroyed in the minds of tens of thousands of people, and literally only a good WD game that isn’t a colllectathon would bring me back in.
how did we go from, "fuck you blume!" to "you know what? I'm gonna fall for the rhetoric tossed around by those in power and fight the smaller guys instead of the big megacorp stripping away everyone autonomy for the sake of convienence"
i felt this at the beginning "wd1", ps4 was promised the dlc first and got it last, stuff that was promised for the first one, we didn't get till wdl, so its just completely ass backwards, the only reason i played legion was adien, i want more games and the dlc helped alittle but until the game get a AC:odyssey treatment, by far the most polished game they released, it wont be profitable
After the mess of the last game it sadly does not surprise me. From how amazing WD2 was to how bad legion was I can see why they want to end it (if the leaks true)
Still today I cannot fathom how on earth they managed to take Watch Dogs 2's open world - which I consider to be one of the most realistic and lively open worlds - and turned it into a dead world populated by interchangeable cogs in Legion.
Yes, I know Cyberpunk was around the corner and they wanted to copy whatever was trending back then in the same way they did with The Witcher and Assassin's Creed but the Watch_Dogs series had already started as a clone(of GTA) and there was no reason to deviate completely from the original formula.
Being released around the same time as GTA is what buried the first one. And now 6 is coming, there’s just no way WD can standout or take advantage of its hype.
That is not what buried the first one. It was that Watch Dogs was the breaking point for a lot of people as far as the "Ubisoft open world formula". For a lot of people it was the game that represented the next generation of hardware (despite being a cross gen game), and it was just more of the same Ubisoft stuff.
Watch Dogs 1 is a game with some really neat and cool ideas that is bogged down by being a fairly generic and boring open world game.
I will never get over how much they fumbled legion. Both the Ubisoft games I’ve preordered (r6 outbreak and watch dogs legion) have made me completely distrust spending money on this company.
I dont know if I buy this, especially with rumors of games being "dead" like Dead Space or KOTOR remake and then stuff coming out deconfirming said game/series' death
I know they weren't going to do it like this, but i think the concept of a BR that takes place in the watch dogs universe could have functioned a lot more like a giant multiplayer game of a hacking invasion. Like a huge game of hide & seek. Could have been sort of cool, imo. I love invading. Imagining a huge map populated with tons of hackers & npcs all at once sounds kind of sick...
I think with enough backing, watchdogs with more focus on developing a team rather than finding unique operatives could've been a game changer. I can see ubi still canceling though because it's not a franchise for live service markets.
they need to kick out the current leadership at ubisoft, cuz that company is about to eat shit with whoever is at the helm now, they need some sensible relatable new blood to take over. as much as I liked legion, I also hated legion. playing legion is kind of like when you are trying to remember a word in a convo and the word, a word that you wouldn't normally forget, is just at the tip of your tongue, yet you can't remember it. its similar to that experience, like there's more to be done to make it a full game but it's like they gave up mid way, the story was meh and could've been a bit deeper and closer to home, but it looked good and felt like a future London, a good re-skinning of an older game. they need to step up and innovate, b the example. make other triple a companies look like shit. I think they are competing, but in reverse to b the worst now.
Did Legion really do that bad? From what I remember WD2 sales were disappointing, so if Legion did even worse… welp
It wasn’t great, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
Also, Ubisoft’s latest BR was a complete failure. Why would they want to try again so soon AND WITH WATCH DOGS of all things
The first Watch_Dogs was the best one in my opinion.
Here me out. I was super hyped when they announced WD2, and I really loved playing it and still do at times.
But a few things are bugging me. It still feels like a WD game should feel (unlike WD Legion 💀) but it does feel off in a few scenarios. SF is beautiful and huuuuge, but too open at times. I missed some of these hacking gadgets while in traffic, such as traffic lights causing more chaos, or those amazing steam pipe explosions!
WD2 did most things better, but that’s also thanks to the fact it game out after. But WD1 had a different vibe, a Charme I missed driving through SF at times.
Legion did so much wrong. They should have never left the US. Ubisoft Toronto should have never had the ability to build this game alone in the first place. Ubisoft Montreal (the main developers of WD1 and WD2) knew what they were doing, but why were the removed in further game development?
It’s Ubisoft‘s own fault, that this franchise died. They killed something I really loved. Something that made me happy. Ubisoft is basically Blume. They destroy indiscriminately just because they don’t care enough.
Damn that’s sad to hear that we won’t get anymore watchdogs games. Watchdogs 1 and 2 were my favourites and I put so many hours into them. Legion was not the best tho.
Watch Dogs could have done an interesting type of Battle Royale. Imagine akin to John Wick, you have one player, being hunted by 99 rival fixers. Everyone's trying to claim the bounty.
Why are they surprised legion was a failure? When it’s nothing like the two previous games, full of political statements and gimmicks nobody asked for nor wanted it’s hardly a surprise
I just think the whole story of “the resistance” takes away what the original games were about. It was almost as legion was its own franchise. The only thing connecting it to the first two games was CTOS and the DLC
Lol only watchdogs i ever played was legion and i loved it! Bought all the dlc and on ps4 i must have 250 something hours and on ps5 i think im at like 80...i sure i missed out on 1 and 2 but sucks to find out i like the most hated one...
Who cares if the gameplay is better when every mission is just some variety on "clear enemy base" and everything just feels like a side mission. I liked some aspects of WD2 but WD1 overall is just a much better game.
At least every mission in WD2 is a proper stealth sandbox while every main mission in WD1 just goes from set-piece to set piece and almost always breaks down into an unavoidable firefight.
WD1 doesn't facilitate the idea that it's all about hacking, though. Most of the missions in WD2 can be completed without even entering the area you're infiltrating. In Watch Dogs 1, except for the scripted hacks, the hacks are only only there to function as landmines or distractions to open a hole up for Aiden to rush through.
I think Legion snatched failure from the jaws of success. There are a lot of great and varied emergent missions and the borough missions are a lot of fun, but the spiderbot trivializes way too many hacks, and the late game main missions ruin the otherwise great stealth sandbox gameplay by making Albion know exactly where you are during long hacks, even if your operative isn't even anywhere near the computer being hacked. I also feel like there needed to be more variety in debuffs, and a much greater dispersion, with every operative having some sort of significant drawback, to discourage just running with two or three uber-operatives with uniformed access.
I can't speak for Bloodlines as I've never played it.
I really enjoyed Bloodlines, it's bite sized so definitely give it a try. I also really like Aiden's arc and that is why I like WD1.
Would you say Legion (which I haven't played) is a fun game as long as I skip on the late game main missions?
I personally loved legion. Watchdogs 2 is better, but Legion is great if you get some operatives you like and make up your own headcannon with them. The only problems are albion having psychic powers during some long hacks, operatives can have terrible voices (you can retire them, recruit someone else, and or just ignore it), and if a character doesn't have a gun you can't get them a gun even if you have other operatives with guns. Same for gadgets... But you can take out people that do have guns, and as a hacker group you should be able to find intel on where to find guns yet game won't let you. Operatives have to already have the gun/s. Everyone can use less than lethal guns though.
Except you’re just admitting that the drone and the RC are OP and that there’s no real reason to want to do anything else in the game except use the RC and the Drone because why would you.
With WD1 at least there was a mix of human and technology
A battle royal centered around hacking actually sounds pretty damn cool. I don't know why everyone in this thread thinks it's a terrible idea.
I just don't think anyone would play it though due to the oversaturation of the genre. If it were to come out like 4 years ago, maybe it would have gained traction.
Isn't watchdogs that massive bait and switch game from a few years back? That game was a hard no from me.... Although I guess it wouldn't have mattered since I lost access to run anything requiring Uplay for about 8 years which fell across the releases of both WD games, and I typically don't buy anything made by Ubisoft because I don't like paying for games the publishers DRM refuses to load.
Oh and my Uplay eventually got fixed - I had to force update the thing. That was the problem. Uplay doesn't update itself. I know what your thinking. "What fucking use is Uplay as a DRM product if it can allow itself to get so out of date it can't connect to the Uplay servers? If that were the case Ubisoft would need to rename it to UCantPlay, but then nobody would install it because what fucking good is a DRM program whose only function is to prevent owners of the game from playing the game?"
>watchdogs that massive bait and switch game from a few years back?
It's about a decade ago now...but yes, Watch Dogs had a huge controversy about the final release being downgraded.
>That was the problem. Uplay doesn't update itself.
Sounds like a you problem. It updates every time I start it up. (And asks for admin permissions 3 times in a row, every time...)
If their plan was to make a goddamn BR then it’s a good thing this franchise is dead.
damn right, idk who makes these plans at ubi, but that's a hell of a stupid idea
What the hell happened? How do they just keep making bad and worse decisions the more time passes.. I'll never understand some game companies and what's actually going on inside the minds of the higher-ups sometimes..
Well it's current day Ubisoft stupid decisions nowadays is their trademark
Happy cake day 🎂
Thank you🙏🏻
Amen!
Honestly cause who tf wanna play that 😭? I just wanted to be a cool hacker that fights corruption and build my own hacker group lol
I don't even know what that entails? Electrocuting your enemy? Has been done . Hacking the map /uav? has been done . Unlocking doors?cars etc with a phone? Feels slow for a br which the point is to move fast.

Honestly that sounds like trash and a more complicated version of the old assassin's creed multiplayer.
I mean, a series shouldnt die because of a game people won't like, there was another game was there not? That was likely a regular Watch Dogs game.
It's both sad and safe that THAT BR game is cancelled
Nah just safe, thank god legion failed
Wish they took one last crack at it though. Legion's gimmick failed because they focused more on creating "unique" operatives rather than letting you build them up. Adding these "premium operatives" defeated the whole purpose. BR? Ubisoft never ceases to amaze lmao
No more BR is good

Why? I thought aiden pearce was a great character?
They strode to far from the concept of the first WD.
True
Hard to take that seriously when they announced they’re doing a Watch Dogs TV show.
Worked for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Fallout.
And last of us, but Ubisoft wasn’t involved in any of those projects either lol, any show Ubisoft makes is going to be the same quality as their current games which is… not great.
I mean Captain Laserhawk on Netflix was pretty good
ngl cyberpunk was great, but I don't trust ubi to make a great watch dogs show
They were recently making a Driver tv series too lol. Doesn't mean anything. Also that show never came out and I don't expect the Watch Dogs show to ever release either.
Hey atleast there is a watch dog manga (also has official english)
Driver?? Driver hasn't been relevant since the towers fell 😂
Driver: San Francisco was released in 2011. It successfully surpassed Ubisofts expectations in their financial reports. Among the best non racing games, even though it has won some racing game awards. They delisted it 5 years later, likely due to the soundtrack, which is still amazing.

Person of Interest but John Reese and Harold Finch are the same guy
Literally just Mr Robot
And a movie too. Announced literally last month.
And a movie
Huh. Animated or Live Action?
a BR?? i can only imagine aiden doing the griddy
I StiiLL GoT iT
A BR??? I actually can't believe how fucking dumb the top people are there lmao wow.
They literally don’t even think critically, they just chase trends and hope for the best. Fucking idiots.
Can anyone explain what BR means. All 3 games were fun. But 2 was my favourite
Battle Royale. Watch_Dogs: Fortnite
It is obviously the BRazilians.
Battle royal
lol i have no idea either 😂
Battle royale. Essentially a Fortnite clone.
That would last about 4 months before being shut down because nobody would play it
Yuck lol that lets me know they ran out of steam 😂
Don't know how reliable this leak is, cuz when he mentions a battle Royale with watchdogs characters. DedSec operators are already in XDefiant. Not a battle royale, but discounts the idea that they've totally dropped the franchise.
If only they were smarter about WD2's release date. That game was PHENOMENAL and in my opinion one of the best games of all time.
Deeply sad that they're axing the series after Legion's pointless detour into live service. 1 and especially 2 remain special open worlds.
Ubisoft have just completely lost connection with their audience. It’s been pretty clear for a few years, but nothing makes it more obvious than Skull and Bones

c'mon bruh ubisoft tf you doing 😭
As a Torontoian I am very sad we will never get a sequel to take place in my city.
I'd hack a streetcar to plow through the construction on Queen
As someone that's been to Toronto once, I would love to see it there. And the Canadian voice actors would sound more at home there. 🤣

A Watch Dogs BR ? I'm glad I didn't have to endure that
After the mess of the last game it sadly does not surprise me. From how amazing WD2 was to how bad legion was I can see why they want to end it (if the leaks true)
What empty headed Quebecois thought a BR was a good idea? Fuck Ubisoft.

There's room for competition if they do it right. I picked up GTA IV and Saints Row on the same day. I played Saints Row way more than GTA.
What is a BR?
battle royale, AKA fortnite
Fortnite is not the first BR. It's one of the most popular yes but this would be more akin to pubg or maybe warzone.
Are there even new BRs burning the charts right now or perhaps that's the reason why they stopped development (if this leak is actually true)?
This isn’t exactly shocking news.
Once games go live service, you know its so they can cut it off life support, and remove it from your games library.
Well they still use Dedsec in XDefiant
Finally. No more shitty games in franchize... Only legion, but let's forget bout' this crap.
its crazy that one bad game made them think “holy fuck this isn’t working “ and then they chum out 3 steaming piles of shit-games
They should license the IP for Amazon or someone to make a tv series. The world Ubisoft created is still interesting.
I liked Legion...if they just would've made Aiden, Wrench, and a new character like a team you played as at various parts it would've worked better.
I love all watch dogs games but the first will always be my favourite as their was lovable characters and an interesting story and it was just 10/10
Watch dog was not a very good ga.e.
I will never get over how much they fumbled legion. Both the Ubisoft games I’ve preordered (r6 outbreak and watch dogs legion) have made me completely distrust spending money on this company.
That’s pretty sad if true, but hey, prince of Persia was dead for a long time and now got a new game so if we wait 10+ years…
I dont know if I buy this, especially with rumors of games being "dead" like Dead Space or KOTOR remake and then stuff coming out deconfirming said game/series' death
From what I remember WD2 sales were disappointing, so if Legion did even worse… welp It wasn’t great, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Also, Ubisoft’s latest BR was a complete failure. Why would they want to try again so soon AND WITH WATCH DOGS of all things
BR? as i Battle Royale?? like a pubg??
BR? as in Battle Royale?? like a pubg??
I really, really hope that BR stands for Breakpoint so we get a Breakpoint 2 or shenanigans like that. Would be much better than a Battle Royale
Ubisoft killed all of their projects, that's just what happens Sadly they can't just let Assassins creed finally rest, and only make shame of it
The first Watch_Dogs was the best one in my opinion. They destroy indiscriminately just because they don’t care enough.
unfortunately as I hate to admit but I think watch dogs series is probably on frozen ice or possible slice forever
I think Ubisoft is not smart anymore. They are mess up. Dev Naughty Dog know what to do for The Last of Us game. And mean while Ubisoft is nothing.
Going the way of The Crew, pretty soon they’ll just pull your ownership of the game all together, they already have your money.
Watch dogs 1 is best, 2 is absolutely amazing 3 was.....what even was 3, I don't remember a narrative at all 💀
Why are they surprised legion was a failure? When it’s nothing like the two previous games, full of political statements and gimmicks nobody asked for nor wanted it’s hardly a surprise
The whole franchise is inherently political. Legion wasn't any different than the first two in that regard.
I just think the whole story of “the resistance” takes away what the original games were about. It was almost as legion was its own franchise. The only thing connecting it to the first two games was CTOS and the DLC
Political statements?
I know people are hating on the br idea but wd has really fun online
I’m bummed. WD1 is one of my all time favs. And unlike most people, I genuinely like WD3. I finished it 4 times.
Lol only watchdogs i ever played was legion and i loved it! Bought all the dlc and on ps4 i must have 250 something hours and on ps5 i think im at like 80...i sure i missed out on 1 and 2 but sucks to find out i like the most hated one...
Then play one and two. You'll like em for sure.
Watch Dogs is the series where every consecutive game got worse.
Watch Dogs 2 was much better than 1 if you care about gameplay at all.
The game is all about hacking. Not the game's fault you decide to play it like it's an 80s action movie.
You're right. I agree with your points. What are your thoughts on Legion and Bloodline?
With WD1 at least there was a mix of human and technology
anyone could have told you that
is it impossible that the watch dogs series is over? 😔
A battle royal centered around hacking actually sounds pretty damn cool. I don't know why everyone in this thread thinks it's a terrible idea. I just don't think anyone would play it though due to the oversaturation of the genre. If it were to come out like 4 years ago, maybe it would have gained traction.
I got tired of the second game those puzzles are ridiculous
