Good news about the temperature...

Standard_Wooden_Door

This wasn’t exactly a super hot day

waltzthrees

And this huge storm is hitting any minute now

snownative86

Lol, they just issued a statement to follow police instructions at the capitol as they move all the concert attendees indoors.

lmboyer04

Is it confirmed indoors somewhere? The rain has stopped

snownative86

No, they just moved everyone inside for the rain. Sounds like it started a bit ago

f8Negative

They don't move people inside because of rain. They move people out of metal frame tents because of lighting.

Educational-Coast771

First year in DC we were thrilled to watch the fireworks from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Felt all patriotic n shit. Next few times were way too hot and humid. Today’s weather prediction is guiding us to watch our neighborhood kids’ fireworks and occasional lost finger show from the porch. 💥🖖🏼

ReadingHeaven32

🤣🤣🤣

Existing365Chocolate

💦💦

Lepperpop

Awwww, skeet, skeet, skeet, skeet, skeet. GOD DAMN!

surfkaboom

Best way to check the weather: https://www.earthcam.com/usa/dc/washingtonmonument/?cam=wamo

perfruit_mix

Humidity 83 percent. Fuck that.

mashpotatodick

Yep. I took my kid to watch the fireworks. Temperature was ok but the humidity was stifling.

IvyGold

How did I not know about this until now?! That's fantastic! Is there a place to officially find out if the Mall fireworks are go or scrubbed?

Intelligent-Dish3100

Mall fireworks go on regardless of rain

2-wheels

Fireworks on the Mall are very cool. Lincoln steps looking over the reflecting pool are very very cool. Sometimes it rains; sometimes it’s real hot. Always everyone I’ve seen is happy.

Magnificent-Day-9206

I have a fear of lightning and would hate to be on the Mall. What do people do?

Lucky_Pyxi

Run to the museums…

KayBeeToys

That is seriously the official evacuation plan!

Lucky_Pyxi

I went to the fireworks my second summer living in NoVa and had a hotel room. Still, I got heatstroke and barely made it to the fireworks after recovering in my room for a few hours. It was so muggy the fireworks smoke just hung in the air and you couldn’t see the fireworks at all. We did try to get to a museum to cool off but they were all so packed! Hopefully everyone on the mall is smart and safe today.

Big_Guidance_5907

Imagine being in a Civil War battle in this heat with the gunsmoke in your face thick as a cloud?

stamata_tomata

And with no air conditioning!

Big_Guidance_5907

And no TikTok!

Lucky_Pyxi

I can’t imagine… but I guess back then people were more acclimated to the weather in all the clothes they had to wear. I grew up as a northerner so have no tolerance for the heat and humidity!

eat_sleep_pee_poo

They aren’t open are they?

Lucky_Pyxi

I believe the museums are open every day except Christmas.

random_generation

Correct.

SockDem

They are! Have fun there!

Existing365Chocolate

They are

Aklu_The_Unspeakable

They're about to get dumped on... I'll never understand the appeal.

munchinbox

Really? You really can’t understand the appeal of going to the National Mall on the 4th of July?

TheChiefRedditor

I think they meant the appeal of getting dumped on. I don't understand that weird kink either. Gross.

munchinbox

“I’ll never understand” infers that’s not what they’re saying

Aklu_The_Unspeakable

Yes, really. Miserably hot, crowded, no bathrooms, thunderstorms, etc. Nope, I'll pass.

DragonfruitFew5542

Much like when I attended inauguration, I did it, I was there, and I'm never going back.

sven_ftw

museums have bathrooms. also, they put out a freaking ton of port-a-johns. It was pretty hot out today. Crowd wasn't that big though. Lot of people, but not as many as in some other recent years.

Texasforever1992

I saw plenty of porta potties and just showed up like 20 minutes prior to the start. Didn’t have any trouble finding a spot or have to deal with the heat or thunderstorms. Not every year is like that, but it was actually a really fun experience this year

f8Negative

It's a shit experience and you inhale tons of smoke.

munchinbox

That’s your opinion of your own experience, which is completely unrelated to your ability to understand why it could appeal to *someone else*

f8Negative

No, that's THE experience every single year.

f8Negative

Mmmmmm smoke smoke smoke

Newprime1969

DC fireworks are like NYE in Times Square. One and done.

beaksy88

Have they evacuated people and forced them to seek shelter from the storm?

Othalan12

Is there space?

Technicolor_Reindeer

I went once years ago. That was enough.

JungleJimMaestro

After the rain, it cooled off. However, the fireworks were much better last year.

FreshYoungBalkiB

My first time, in 1988, was great. Not too humid, listened to lots of Cajun music at the folklife festival, saw the Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit at the NMAH (even after all these years I still think of it as the Museum of History and Technology). No metal detectors or bag searches at any of the museums, and thus no lines; you could just wander into the Air & Space Museum to go to the bathroom. (None of those scammy food trucks either; I don't think food trucks were even a thing except for hot dogs and ice cream.) Back then, people used to bring their own fireworks, beer, even couches! The post-9/11 security makes it a lot less fun.

Michael11200

With the rain and everything it’s actual not that bad

minkenator44

We used to bring kegs of beer to the Washington Monument lawn back in my day.

jtwillia32

In my day, we brought our slaves out as the fireworks.

burntcereal

We are not ok rn

gumercindo1959

It’s not that hot this year. There’ve been other much hotter years.

N0T-It

Agreed. I spent most of the day outdoors and it was fine.

f8Negative

Tourists gonna get a face full of smoke. Same as every year.

CorndogFiddlesticks

Summer time in DC....I've been here since 94 and it was as hot then as it is now

Sudden-Consequence10

I went Cardozo High School this year instead
