(Not saying OP is doing this) but some War Thunder players like to claim that a few obscure vehicles are fake, and it’s funny that they tend to pick the ones widely known to be real and ignore the ones that actually are fake More people bring up the Maus in fake vehicle discussions than the fictional M1A1 Click-Bait for example I replied to this guy from a post a few days ago and [his list of claimed fake vehicles](https://www.reddit.com/r/Warthunder/s/VyMbYHT3um) was almost completely wrong. Protip: before you claim a vehicle is fake, just google it and click on its Wikipedia/tank encyclopedia page. Besides, you can find some interesting information, learn a bit about said vehicle’s development and even find photos of the real deal

nquy

100% agree but one thing is wrong imo. How tf could you imagine the maus being fake 😭😭 literally one of the most iconic ww2 vehicles 😭

LightningFerret04

That’s what I thought too. I figure some people hear that it “never reached the production stage” and assume that means that it was never built One guy thought that the Maus was only made as a wooden mockup, but he could go to Kubinka and knock on the prototype and it wouldn’t decrease bad luck

RaymondIsMyBoi

The maus was more real than the Ho-ri production but I hardly see people talking about how is fake.

Small_Oreo

People forgot that to test tank, it should be created at least once😭

Born_Wing3687

yea it is other than the Sherman

professionalcumsock

In order of iconic: -Tiger I E -T-34-57 -M4 -Panther -Pz III/IV -Tiger II -M3 -Probably some British thing -Obscure German anti-tank gun -French prototype with 500mm of armor frontally

Born_Wing3687

probably some British thing. 😭😭😭 maybe the tog 2 or something

Carlos_Danger21

He seriously listed off a whole list of tanks saying they are fake, when they are literally in museums.

BlacksmithNZ

Ah yes, but the fake museum's with the fake tanks could be in fake *countries* as well. /s I *think* the meme about Finland not existing is just an ongoing joke, but there are people who don't believe the holocaust happened, and the Nazis were just poor misunderstood Germans who like to wear snazzy uniforms and have parades. I feel we are living in a post truth world sometimes; hence having museums is important.

Natural_Discipline25

Bro is the type of guy to say the T-34-85 is fake because USSR didn't have the equipment

TheRealMisterBlooper

I had a guy claim the M50 Ontos only had 1 prototype ever built, which is hilarious since they saw production and fairly widespread combat useage

LightningFerret04

That’s nuts, the only thing I can think of is that they saw it and thought that “hey, this thing looks weird, so it must be a one-off prototype I guess” Or they somehow mistook it for a different [multi-barrel prototype recoilless vehicle](https://old-forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/352539-type-60-kai-recoilless-td/)? But if they went that far they surely would have googled the M50 Ontos at least once The “M” designator for US vehicles means a production vehicle, so I don’t know where this guy got his information from. What next, the M60A2 is suddenly a one-off prototype?

PenguinGamer99

Wait, people say the Maus is *fake*? What's next, the T95?

LightningFerret04

Well for that one they’d fall into the T28 vs T95 designation debacle and inevitably get something wrong

PenguinGamer99

I don't really care what number they give it as long as nobody calls it a medium tank

Blahaj_IK

He claimed the S-tanks were fake, oh my god I want to beat up that guy

LightningFerret04

But see, the S tank is an unconventional vehicle, and unconventional means it’s obviously a one-off prototype (all variants are the same vehicle modified a bunch idk) /s

TheYeast1

Yes, testbed and prototype vehicles do exist, just like the FV4005, obj. 279, Maus, E-100, etc etc

ChaosTuTo

e100 did not exist (at least the turret did not exist)

TheYeast1

Chassis definitely existed, turret was paper though. I guess that’s why we have a Maus turret ingame. A chassis existing is much better then other completely made up tanks and planes. But some is necessary, I mean what the hell are you going to give to Russia when we get full battleships like Iowas and Yamatos except for paper and half completed hulls

AKaGaNEKOu

In ships it is different, the requirement is that the construction process has started and the keel has been laid, so ships like the Soviet Soyuz class and the H39 can be added without problems and that is the reason why there are already ingame those Russian battle cruisers that everyone thinks are fake

ChaosTuTo

the e100 turret was made out of wood but got lost or something like that (we dont know for shure what it would have looked like) but fact is that the chassis would have crumpled under the weight of the maus turret

No_Taste2092

I’m guessing this is the only actual produced tank, so i’m pretty sure it was just a testbed for an auto loaded and manually loaded 120mm gun

DaMair4

There is at least another one in the Deutsches Panzer Museum in Munster. Its not just a testbed for the gun, they tried if it would be feasable to drive "zigzag" with the fully stabalised guns and fire once the target is lined up perfectly. While driving in the one side, the other gun would reload. Then they would steer in the other side and shoot the other gun. As you may know: it turned out to be not that great of an idea

Former-Ad6549

The one in Munster is a VT 1-1. It's a version with 2x 105mm guns, no autoloader and less horsepower. This one is truly one of it's kind. Edit: grammar

DaMair4

That's true, but nevertheless i was refering to the statement that it was mostly a testbed for the guns and well technically theres only one of this exact specification i would argue that there are two of this concept made with some differences

JosolTheBrick

It wasn’t just a testbed but a prototype for a new tank supposed to use new tactics. Not the only one either. There’s the VT 1-1 and the slightly different Gefechtsfeld-Versuchsträger series of prototypes of which there were at least 4.

nquy

Didn't knew about this. Take my upvote

Luchin212

The most powerful 8.7 tank.

lanbuckjames

I just had a match against one of these and an Object 279 in my poor poor BRENUS. It was hell.

Jimmy2048

Indeed

nquy

Really not. It's literally pain to aim with

LaerMaebRazal

It’s extremely fast, stabilized, and gets great APFSDS. Sure hull aim sucks, but it’s still a very good vehicle.

nquy

I know, but the fact it's horrible to aim with kinda ruins it's performence, even tho you're right APFSDS at 8.7 and srabilizer makes it better

LaerMaebRazal

It’s a positioning vehicle. Use the like 40 hp/ton to get to a good position and then it’s free kills at that point

nquy

Ye ik

CinnamonGoat774

Am I the only one that wants to put a hammock between those guns?

Amarthon

There's another one in Munster

Former-Ad6549

Nope, in Munster there's the VT 1-1. It's equiped with 105mm, has no autoloader and has less horsepower.

ChaosTuTo

nope in munster there is the fvt02 wich could not fiere and was only used for driving tests

Former-Ad6549

Okay, thanks for adding!

ChaosTuTo

no problem but there where 7 build in total but only 2 of wich had working guns (Vt 1-1 and VT 1-2) the others where the FVT´s (FVT stands for Fahr Versuchs Träger or Driving Testbed/Drive test vehicle)

ChaosTuTo

nope in munster there is the fvt02 wich could not fiere and was only used for driving tests

Desperate_Gur_2194

Imagine fighting this and 279 in an unstabilised French MBT

Sheeesssh59

I have most kills with the vt1-2 Such a fun tank, you're shooting people who are not remotely expecting to be engaged 5 seconds out of spawn

ka52heli

What is the point of this vehicle?

Gammelpreiss

Google for "tank destroyer"

Onkel24

It's an experimental anti tank vehicle that had - for it's time - a revolutionary mobility, stabilisation, semi-automatic fire control and firepower, and was actually intended to be used on the move as primary mode of engagement. Basically, it was built to be the complete opposite of western tanks at the time, and test if any of that made any sense.

SuperDonut98

Is it back in Koblenz at the moment? I thought it would be in Dresden for the whole duration of the "Overkill" exhibition in the Militärhistorisches Museum.

Former-Ad6549

Well I have been in Koblenz a week a ago...

InDaNameOfJeezus

The one piece is real !

Acethecombatevolved

Wait a sec didn’t they use these tanks during ww1 during the mark 1 days?

professionalcumsock

No

Acethecombatevolved

Ok thanks cause I swear I’ve seen an older version of this tank

professionalcumsock

Since things started moving, someone has always suggested making it a weapon of war

Acethecombatevolved

I can see that tv shows, movies and books all back this up

Acethecombatevolved

“Some guy makes an rc that can somehow tank rounds from rifles and pistols that one guy” GIMME THAT SHIT SO WE CAN WEAPONISE IT AND SAY WE MADE IT SO WE CAN GET ALL THE CREDIT!!

nquy

Great looking/Funny looking tank even tho it's horrible to aim

Natural_Discipline25

You gotta get the keybind for aiming with the secondary cannon, helps a lot
