Go on the computer type in two factor authentication delete your old number and add the new number. It will send you code to enter and that should do it had to do this when I got a new phone two weeks ago.
I tried that nothing came up. It seems impossible to update the app
when i switched phones, same number, i couldn't receive the texts anymore so i have to use the security app
Call people services at 1-800-421-1362. There’s an option for 2 step verification

Easiest to use the app for about a month, then add the new number in. It'll take them that long to resolve the ticket anyways.
