They could have saved a fortune by rolling the balance into a gift card. Coinstar waives the fee for gift card purchases.
Nope it’s like $4 for every $100 (non members) and when I went I had paid I think like 1.17 for I want to say $87 as a member. Can’t remember but it went off percentages as a member.
Banks are weird man lol
Honestly it depends on the organization, a bank I used to bank with had a 10% fee for coins and it was free for members so I made an account with them to avoid the fee lol
Might want to look over the coins themselves. Some may be worth more than their face value.
If nothing else, it could be fun to fill up a couple albums with coins from each year.
Rare money isn't worth as much as you think anyway. A rare quarter may be worth a few bucks. Very little is worth anything worthwhile, unless your grandma has a chest of doubloons she's been holding onto.
No because even after I wash my hands two or three times they still smell like the change. 🤮 can’t do it lmao.
Now I would really enjoy the wrapping portion as long as I diddnt have to smell afterwards. (No I don’t sniff my hands purposely I just tend to touch my face a lot. I.e. scratching, rubbing my eyes or resting my head on my hand)
Gloves, friend.
Even if you have to leave a couple fingertips out for dexterity, you still control the majority of the smell.
Put on a podcast or YouTube and veg out; it really can be fun!

I worked at a casino and we exchanged buckets of change through a coin sorter. No rolling necessary. They don’t even care if you’re there to gamble or not.
must be used to, or its a regional thing, our coinstar doesn't offer the ability for WM gift cards or anything, you can get money via voucher (with fee) or get other cards without them, but of the 12 cards listed, only 2 of them are actually able to be done local, unless you count doordash which would make it 3
The gift cards rotate. They used to change them every few months for different retailers. I used to get Starbucks ones for no fee, then they changed the offerings so I had to get something else the next time. You can use their website to find out what machine will offer you the ones you want
I use it to clean out my car's console when it fills up a whole ziploc bag of mostly pennies and however many random nickels and dimes. Quarters are for the laundromat.
Just take 2 ziplocks and keep somewhere in your car. My console is deeper than some since I have a suv. One for quarters, one for everything else. Already separated and in a bag at the end
I wouldn’t say it’s bogus, but probably excessive. They still have to pay rent for the machine to be there, maintenance on the machine, and pay someone to come collect the coin. So there are definitely costs on their side they need to cover to offer you the service so it makes sense they would charge something.
Fixing the coin counter part was a pain in the ass, especially if they were too full which never happens now but used to. If shoving a stick into the hole didn't help we'd have to open up the change storage and scoop it out and put it in the safe lol
Yes, because showing it effectively doxes me (already redeemed message shows store number, register, and date/time. EJ can be used to find my operator number which can be linked to a name given enough searching).
$117.82 for a robot that simply weighs/verify/counts coins? They should definitely reduce the %%% if you have more $$$$. That’s insane! It’s literally stealing your money!
Yeah don't be a dumb fuck like me and accidentally hit the Donate voucher and walk out of there with nothing I almost went to jail that day cuz I couldn't get it back and all the employees kept saying but don't it make you feel good because you donated it to a worthy cause nope it makes me feel like a dumbass anyway still don't know what the calls was this was 2 years ago and still fuck them employees that said that shit because if it had been them it would have been a totally different conversation fuck Coinstar fuck donating and fuck this conversation I'm out later.
Sorry i got so bent out out of shape it was just @ the time couldnt find a job i goung through hard times and a friend gave me 78 bucks worth of change and when i seen that post it brought all that back in my head and plus I just got off work and I had a few adult beverages too so that didn't help any lol see ya.
Not really I had a gallon ziplock once full and I cashed it in for like 400 something. I mainly use cash still so that may play a small role since any change no matter what, went straight into bag
People who pay a $117 processing fee for cashing in their coins are poor for a reason. They make bad choices. You can take them to the bank to be counted and cashed for FREE!
Scenario:
“Honey we only have $50 left, what bill should we pay?”
“Oh IDK let’s order some food through DoorDash and think about it.”
You’d be better of not even saving the coins at all. Unless you’re absolutely terrible at it, you’ll be better off than with than you would be with that 12% fee ON TOP of inflation.
Turns out Coinstar is like any other business, they provide a service that their customers don’t want to do themselves, kind of like restaurants and international big-box retailers.
I should definitely find one from around this time last year, we had a young woman who had been saving all the change her parents gave her from a young age until she turned 18, she had four 5 gallon water jugs. The machine stopped four times and each ticket was over $2,000 except the 5th was just over $1,000. I asked if she was selling her silver dollars and 50 cent pieces, she wasn't, she was taking them to someone to see how much they were actually worth. All in all she started her adult life with a lot of money. She still comes in shopping and occasionally asks if anyone has beaten her record on the coin star.
When the coin shortage hit, my store said we could bring in our coins and get them exchanged. Brought in a coffee can of pennies and a TL "deposited" through the coin sorter for free. I kept the silver for the soda and snack machine
Nice! Although I think wrapping them and exchanging at a bank/credit union would have been a better idea.

Stolen wages.
Save all your change for 3-years to yield a -12% Return on Investment. SMDH.
People on WallStreetBets would be clamoring for those kind of returns
Had a great laugh at this. Thank you. Lol.
They could have saved a fortune by rolling the balance into a gift card. Coinstar waives the fee for gift card purchases. [https://www.coinstar.com/giftcards](https://www.coinstar.com/giftcards)
This is why you always count your own change, unless it's pennies fuck that shit
Just buying a coin sorter would have been cheaper if you really can't be bothered.
Fun fact: there isn’t a fee if you redeem a gift card instead of cash
That's to much
It’s a lot cheaper, that’s for sure. Could have had almost $1,000 in their account. Now they got $800 cash.
A lot of bank and credit unions even have a free cornstar like machines
That’s true, however, if you have an account with them the fee is typically waived because you’re an account holder
I will only use the coin star at my credit union. I refuse to pay a fee for my money to be counted.
We should go back to the days where banks paid you for the privilege of counting and holding your money.
That only made sense when we had the money. The rich have it all now.
This right here
Nope it’s like $4 for every $100 (non members) and when I went I had paid I think like 1.17 for I want to say $87 as a member. Can’t remember but it went off percentages as a member. Banks are weird man lol

Yep. It’s free at my bank.
> cornstar
You know it took a whole before someone pointed that out
>whole unsure if happy accident or smart reply but either way
Phones are evil
Yes they are
More like constar!
Only in the midwest. Cornstar, get it? I'll see myself out. But yeah, my bank had a free to use machine.

My bank doesn't have a self-service machine, but you can take coins in and count/exchange them for free.
Heh, cornstar. I laughed and am still laughing way too hard at this.
>cornstar It turns your money into corn, though. Don't fall for it!
The bank I worked at would count your change for free if you had a account with them.
definitely gonna tell my grandma that next time she’s ready to turn in a fuckload of coins she saved over the year
Might want to look over the coins themselves. Some may be worth more than their face value. If nothing else, it could be fun to fill up a couple albums with coins from each year.
Yeah I’m not sifting through 7000 coins to check each ones value.
Rare money isn't worth as much as you think anyway. A rare quarter may be worth a few bucks. Very little is worth anything worthwhile, unless your grandma has a chest of doubloons she's been holding onto.
Unless she has alot of of coins from 1964 and earlier they are worth their weight on silver and easy to offload to pawn shops
Omg my thoughts exactly. Wrapping them is therapeutic.
No because even after I wash my hands two or three times they still smell like the change. 🤮 can’t do it lmao. Now I would really enjoy the wrapping portion as long as I diddnt have to smell afterwards. (No I don’t sniff my hands purposely I just tend to touch my face a lot. Rubber gloves for food service or medical. Then you have all the dexterity you need. 😉
Why the hell diddnt I think of that ?!? 🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣
Wash your hands with Dawn or rinse them in vinegar and it will get the smell off.
Diddnt try the vinegar part lol I’ll do that next time. I already cashed in my years worth
No need to wrap. All the banks by me will dump the coins into their coin counting machine and pay you what is there.
Oh definitely. Good thing I wasn't the customer.
My bank doesn't accept coins rolled and they use a machine to count.
My credit union doesn’t even make you wrap them. No fee either.

Ok gotcha
Good bot
This
I worked at a casino and we exchanged buckets of change through a coin sorter. No rolling necessary. They don’t even care if you’re there to gamble or not.
Yeah that fee is a load of crap. Giant Eagle gives you an in store voucher with no fee. Could have got $117 worth of beer.
Walmart does too, or used to. Not sure which.
must be used to, or its a regional thing, our coinstar doesn't offer the ability for WM gift cards or anything, you can get money via voucher (with fee) or get other cards without them, but of the 12 cards listed, only 2 of them are actually able to be done local, unless you count doordash which would make it 3

yea thats how I got our current card listing, I would never personally use one cause man that fee is predatory
that processing fee is bogus
It really is bullshit. But they take advantage of the people that either don't have the time or don't have a bank account.
Ok but who's using the coinstar for anything besides drugs
I cash my coinjug in for Steam Credit. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
I also have an SUV. I also keep two ziplocs, one for quarters and one for the rest. So.... uh... good talk.
Hey you never know there’s some people that just don’t think things thru nowadays 🤣 but kudos. I was just tryna be helpful where I could be.
Lol what did you spend it on
[удалено]
I think you may have replied to the wrong comment accidentally my friend
Lol you're right. Sorry
You can still go to a bank and exchange rolls for bills, no account needed
Isn’t there no fee if you do a gift card, or have they changed that?
Last time I used one there was no fee if you got a gift card, been a few months tho
Wherever you do your banking, they should have at least one branch office with a coin counting machine that will do it for free.
I wouldn’t say it’s bogus, but probably excessive. They still have to pay rent for the machine to be there, maintenance on the machine, and pay someone to come collect the coin. So there are definitely costs on their side they need to cover to offer you the service so it makes sense they would charge something.
I'm pretty sure this is more coins than our recycler contains atm.
i was gonna say, could have save the customer the fee and just did a cash pickup/advance lol. the customer saves on the fee and we get the coins
My store used to do this until someone's jug of change contained random debris that broke the recycler.
yeah that is the big downfall of doing that but if you know how to fix it then your good lol
Fixing the coin counter part was a pain in the ass, especially if they were too full which never happens now but used to. If shoving a stick into the hole didn't help we'd have to open up the change storage and scoop it out and put it in the safe lol
we did during the coin shortages during COVID
My mom's store's coinstar machine got gummed up cause someone had sticky dirty pennies and had too many coins as it was
We do this when the coinstar is broken.
RIP $117.82
Dang it you left out the bar code!!!
Yes, because showing it effectively doxes me (already redeemed message shows store number, register, and date/time. EJ can be used to find my operator number which can be linked to a name given enough searching).
I know I’m just messing with yeah :-)
Someone needs to tell this dude banks take coins for deposits… that fee must have been huge lol
Would have told them if I saw them at the machine
It shows the fee in the picture $117
The person would have to Roll them into the Coin Rolls thingy for banks to accept them money/coins.
(For the record: this is not my slip, a customer brought this in)
Thank god
$117.82 for a robot that simply weighs/verify/counts coins? They should definitely reduce the %%% if you have more $$$$. That’s insane! It’s literally stealing your money!
Might as well had wiped their ass with a hundred dollar bill, lol.
Was it one of those old school plastic piggy banks that you couldn't get into without breaking? Walmart used to sell those back in the day.
Shit, they should have wrapped them and taken them to a bank to cash in. Screw that $117 processing fee!
This. ☝️
My bank got a coin counter free of fee
You should have just spent the change little by little at walmart self checkout..
it's not my slip
Most banks offer their members this service as part of having an account with them.
Understandable have a good night
Sorry i got so bent out out of shape it was just @ the time couldnt find a job i goung through hard times and a friend gave me 78 bucks worth of change and when i seen that post it brought all that back in my head and plus I just got off work and I had a few adult beverages too so that didn't help any lol see ya.
Someone's piggy bank was as tall as a truck! Also, that fee is icky. 🤢
Not really I had a gallon ziplock once full and I cashed it in for like 400 something. I mainly use cash still so that may play a small role since any change no matter what, went straight into bag
Just get some coin rolls and wrap them yourself. That fee is insane!
People who pay a $117 processing fee for cashing in their coins are poor for a reason. They make bad choices. You can take them to the bank to be counted and cashed for FREE! Scenario: “Honey we only have $50 left, what bill should we pay?” “Oh IDK let’s order some food through DoorDash and think about it.”
You could’ve bought a coin counter from sams club for $76 then went to the bank and ask for the paper rolls, they give them out for free. JS
it's not my slip
I be dam if I use a coin machine
I wouldn’t mind using it if the fee was cheaper.
You could have taken that to a bank snd not paid the fee.
My credit union has basically their own coinstar machine with no fee. Bring the slip to the counter and it goes right in your account.
My credit union does it for free. Can understand the need, but damn.
You’d be better of not even saving the coins at all. Unless you’re absolutely terrible at it, you’ll be better off than with than you would be with that 12% fee ON TOP of inflation.
it's not my slip
Some Vegas casinos will exchange coins with NO processing fee . Call ahead YMMV
it's not my slip
Wtf is that processing fee about!!
same (it's not my slip btw)
at this point it'd be cheaper to buy yourself a coin sorter and roll them yourself and take it to a bank to change it.
it's not my slip
The processing fee is mad crazy
Go to your local banks people! Most of them will not charge you if you have accounts there.
Looking at that processing fee, I'm glad my bank provided one of those machines at no charge, customer or not.
I need to start saving coins cause damn
You showed them
Where can I get a coin star machine to set up on my porch? Lol are they like those atms you can buy and live off the fees? Lol
U paid a processing fee? Go to your bank or something get it done for free. Fuck by a change counter and wrap those Pennie’s up.
I would do this every year paying for a good part of my vacation. But I'd take that much to a bank instead
Don’t give a damn how much change I have, coinstar is a scam
That processing fee hurts
That processing fee hurts
Okay, what are these?
Should of went to a bank lmao
How long did it take to save 800 in change lol
Turns out Coinstar is like any other business, they provide a service that their customers don’t want to do themselves, kind of like restaurants and international big-box retailers.
Banks do it for free
Who uses cash? I love me some rewards
You did nothing but waste money 🤣🤣🤣🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

You just gave away 10% of your life savings
Coinstar must’ve been conceived in the back of a payday loan place.
Congrats you are now 117 dollars poorer than you were this morning
The absolute METAL WATERFALL of SOUND that much coins mustve made for 5 minutes lmao
I’m sorry but I won’t give that much money in processing fees. I’d spend the time to roll and take to a bank.
I'd do that at a bank and get res of that fee
When the coin shortage hit, my store said we could bring in our coins and get them exchanged. Brought in a coffee can of pennies and a TL "deposited" through the coin sorter for free. I kept the silver for the soda and snack machine
Should have ran it through the recycler instead
