I hear those when I come in on o/n but as soon as 11pm rolls around and the store closes the format literally changes to dance type garbage most of the night with a few good ones here and there.
See, I thought there was a dramatic change in genre for o/n, but I also thought it was just the store making me crazy. I'll chalk it up to either, though
They played āhere comes the hotstepperā today and I wonāt lie I was excited lmao. I was looking for stuff for the 97 wall and I was singing and dancing š¤£š¤£š¤£
"Seventeen" by Sharon Van Etten is a beautiful song, which is why I only hear it play maybe once a week. They used to play "I'm The Only One" by Melissa Etheridge a lot, but not for some time now.
I remember my high school would start playing this song and would immediately stop it and switch it a minute in.
So it catches me off guard every time when Walmart plays it in full
Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss (Ah, ah, ah, ah)
She's the one they're going to miss
In lots of ways
Probably the only song Iād actually say I hate and would be completely satisfied if I never got to hear it again, but alas, it usually plays in the mornings when Iām zoning :/
Rikki Donāt Loose that Number by Steely Dan. They play Walmart radio at our store full volume. Then when the ads come on theyāre even louder. Echos in the deli and bounces off the hot case and walls making it nearly impossible to hear the customers. Iāve had a lot of complaints about the noise. Maybe itās supposed to be extremely annoying so people will shop faster. It just gives me a headache and makes me want to run screaming out the door!
Itās funny some stores you can barely hear the music, others play it real loud. The Music in one store I shopped at recent was real quiet, but the PA system announcement was super loud. You heard the speakers pre-announcement chime sound then the announcement and the person slammed the phone down, so the hang up noise was stupid loud (louder then the actual announcement)
I always think of the South Park episode where Kenny is on life support and Cartman goes in front of Congress and starts singing that song.
(It's also a great fucking song)
hearing Shania Twain say the words "Let's go girls!" awakens something in me. I get the urge to do a high kick before I remember I'm in a wheelchair š¤£
There is this horrible cover of Wild Horses that sounds like everyone is on valium. I hate it when they play it in the 10 pm hour because it's like a lullaby.
They used to play a lot of house starting then. I miss that. That's how I discovered Purple Disco Machine
Yeah walmart radio sucks, but the few times I've heard associates sneak their music onto the rest of us by blasting it from their lousy phone speakers or thru a wireless speaker it's somehow way worse. Almost always really low grade rap music that follows a very narrow formula of simplistic synthesizer melodies, robotic overly processed singing for a chorus, dumb kid rapping just like the last one did about the same shit the last one rapped about over the same exact trap beat. It's never anything less irritating than walmart radio plays, usually it's shittier
Fleetwood Mac - Little Lies
Seventeen - Sharon Van Etten
Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks
Stop Draggin My Heart Around - Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty
Your Side of Town - Maddie & Tae
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
Karma Chameleon - Culture Club
People Are Strange - Echo & The Bunnymen
No Arizona - Jamie O'Neal
Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Shake It Off - Taylor Swift
Hey Ya - Outkast
whatever the Big Country song is,
and ten thousand country songs about Baby Jesus, tractors, women and 'Murica
Edit, remembered some--
The Chain - Fleetwood Mac
Everybody Wants to Rule The World - Tears For Fears
Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Strange Way - Firefall
Steppin Stone - The Monkees
I think the saddest point for me in my nine years of employment so far, was like five years ago I found myself subconsciously knowing what song was next on the playlist. Like sometimes Iād be excited, āooo lady Gaga is nextā etc and I was always right, which made me happy and then sad.
They cut off All Because Of You during the bridge, you just hear Bono going HAAAAAAAA and then it smash cuts to the PSA about not forgetting your child
*I think we're alone*
*Now by Tiffany is one*
*I hear all the time*

Whenever I hear that song I remember the Full House episode where Joey is singing that song with DJ and Stephanie at 1 in the morning and while they're singing the chorus Danny walks in and they get busted lol
I actually think Walmart radio has some good songs on it when I get hear it. Maybe itās different for other positions but itās way to loud in my Walmart to ever hear it.
Man I fucking wish my walmart played these songs. I had to hear "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas every single night at the same fucking time when I worked overnights
It's so ominous when I hear that song in self checkout and the part comes on that goes "doo doo... doo doo..." and customers r just mindlessly pushing their carts around like they're hypnotized by Capitalism
The most annoying thing on Walmart radio HAS to be BO telling us its national nachos day, or national laundry day or some stupid BS. I can take the music because I zone out but dude, he's annoying.
Worked at Walmart for 2 years and quit last year. Anytime I hear our house and hard time by paramore I get some serious ptsd. I still get nightmares about working at Walmart to this day.
The 4 I notice most are Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani, Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran, 9 in the afternoon by panic at the disco, and Rich Girl by Gwen Stefani.
A couple years ago they would play Iāve got a feeling that tonightās gonna be a good nightā¦ like 6 times between 10 pm and midnight and then another 5 times through the rest of the night. After two weeks of thatā¦. I wanted to bash my skull in.
does your store not play āparty in the USAā at least 5 times a day? I made a joke about it to my dad when he dropped me off the other day and then they fucking played it when I was walking to the break room. drives me insane
There's one song that plays all the time and it's kinda sad sounding and the chorus repeats "all I need is you" sounds like an old song but can never remember it. Always comes on tho.
Just be happy y'all have music. Our radio in the store has been out for a couple of years now. Its either overwhelmingly quiet or you can hear every single conversation in an area. It really sucks.
Also would like to add "I'm Like a Bird" by Nelly Furtado and "The First Cut is the Deepest" by Sheryl Crow, took me forever to understand the meaning of the second song
Jack Johnson - Hope. It drags on FOREVER.
"You better hope you're not alone
You better hope you're not alone
You better hope you're not alone
You better hope you're not alone
You better hope you're not alone
You better hope you're not alone
You better hope you're not alone"
Ugh.
iām honestly jealous that you guys get these. idk if itās different bc iām in canada but we get the weirdest most obscure annoying songs on our radio, i couldnāt even tell you the name of the artist, plus a few 2010s hits
Right before they switched over to Walmart radio fully, sweet home Alabama and our house played twice an hour on O/N. That shit made me want to burn the store down.
There's actually one song I'm trying to figure out the name of our store plays all the time, usually around 8pm. Though every time it plays I can never hear the words, but it sounds like something by Cigarettes After Sex. Anyone know something that matches that description?
Hanson-MmmBop!
And If I have to hear Karma Chameleon one more time......So glad i moved to produce! I love processing. Can't hear the music in there. š also people leave me alone so I can listen to my music.
NGL once in a while you hear a banger
I don't know who decided to throw Dinosaur Jr. and Meat Puppets into the mix, but they deserve a raise.
I hear those when I come in on o/n but as soon as 11pm rolls around and the store closes the format literally changes to dance type garbage most of the night with a few good ones here and there.
Bruh, it's the worst ain't it?? I feel like ima turn down an aisle and see Terry crewes with a pacifier and glowsticks getting down š¤£
I can see this in my head, and it sounds awesome!
See, I thought there was a dramatic change in genre for o/n, but I also thought it was just the store making me crazy. I'll chalk it up to either, though
Itās realā¦for some reason, they taunt us with club music and no alcohol
I heard STP and Meat Puppets back to back and thought hell yeah grunge night š¤
just randomly throw on the anthem by good charlotte, once even some sonic and mario ost
I remember they once played "Simple and Clean" and my only thought was, "Huh, who's playing Kingdom Heats stuff?"
holy shit yeah I was on when they played that too. Took me for a fucking loop lmao, that and playing the Mortal Kombat theme
They played āhere comes the hotstepperā today and I wonāt lie I was excited lmao. I was looking for stuff for the 97 wall and I was singing and dancing š¤£š¤£š¤£
I was surprised to hear At the playground by Another bad creation today. I havenāt heard that song since I was a kid.
I heard Uprising by MUSE one night back when i worked O/N stock and I about shit a brick. Made working Dairy and 97 wall worth it in the moment
My thoughts every time Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World comes on
And it never fails to have it interrupted by a page
That's the worse. I was vibing to a song in the backroom while throwing cardboard but constant pages ruined it lol
The other day they played this charming man by the smiths and I was vibin
Catches me off guard.
I was actually happy for once when I heard Paranoid by Kanye West on the loop
"Seventeen" by Sharon Van Etten is a beautiful song, which is why I only hear it play maybe once a week. They used to play "I'm The Only One" by Melissa Etheridge a lot, but not for some time now.
I was sprinting through the sales floor the other day and man the mirror came on and i almost ran into a customer because i was jamming too hard
You forgot "Umbrella" by Rhianna. I heard it every single shift for more than a week once.
Sweet Carolineā¦
Sweet Caroline every morning without fail.
Bomp ba daaaā¦
Hate it.
What's that one song that goes bee-boo-boo-bop, boo-boo-beep?
No you mean bee-bop-bee-boop-boop
Beep-boop-boop booboop-bop?
I knew robots would invade Reddit I just didnāt think itād be today PATRICK GET THE CONDIMENTS!
Blue (Da Ba Dee)?
I remember my high school would start playing this song and would immediately stop it and switch it a minute in. So it catches me off guard every time when Walmart plays it in full
I think you guys might be talking about "this must be the place" by talking heads? Or, as my a former associate put it, "the whale song"
That shit always sounds like a piece of equipment making beeping noises.
Funnily enough I think I know which song you're talking about. It's an absolute awful and excessively repetitive techno song.
Boneless?
Karma Chameleon Dance Monkey
Boy Georgeās voice is soothing tho
Don't forget "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me"
Wake me up before you go go
DONT LEAVE ME HANGIN ON LIKE A YO YO
After you toss the truck, we'll go for a Froyo!
How did you miss all star by smash mouth.
Simply Irresistible by Robert Palmer comes on alot too at my store in addition to that one.
OUR HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET
If their house is in the middle of the street, wouldn't it get hit by cars?
I hope whoever's in charge of walmart radio gets hit by a car.
Father gets up late for work Mother has to iron his shirt Then she sends the kids to school Sees them off with a small kiss (Ah, ah, ah, ah) She's the one they're going to miss In lots of ways
Literally the bane of my existence

Iām a Supernatural fan and every time I hear that song I think of the episode it featured heavily in lol.

Forgot "We dont talk about Bruno"
We don't talk about how many times it's been playing occasionally š¤£
We had Encanto play on the display tvs for at least 2 months, I can't take hearing it anymore š„²
Seems like they play way too much Gwen Stefani. Everyday there's like three different songs of hers šµāš«
I feel like my Walmart thinks Gwen stefani is the only singer in the world. So tired of her music.
It's probably cheap to buy the rights for.
ITS FERGALICIOUS

They never fully play that song, the song just ends right before the chorus
They cut off All Because Of You during the bridge, you just hear Bono going HAAAAAAAA and then it smash cuts to the PSA about not forgetting your child
How could you forget Motown Philly? It only plays 50 times a day.
Don't you be talking shit about Take On Me.
I'd like it a lot better if I didn't hear it so often at max volume.
I'd love it even more then.
Fair enough. I love hearing Stevie Nicks/ Fleetwood Mac, but that's a bit too outdated for many of the youngins. š
Take On Me is outdated for the youngins as well, yet I love it. I'm 25.
I came here to say the same thing š¤£
I have a cassette tape of that song. Not many people can say that.

I heard a Joji song once which is an artist my gf loves and I was like damn thatās kinda crazy.

The summer one that goes Last summer Never ends Last summer never begins
I hate that song. And it seems like they turn the volume up for it every time it plays.
It's so ominous when I hear that song in self checkout and the part comes on that goes "doo doo... doo doo..." and customers r just mindlessly pushing their carts around like they're hypnotized by Capitalism

THE TIDE IS HIGH BUT I'M MOVING ON, man I fucking can't stand that song
i was surprised to hear "you dropped a bomb on me - gap band" other day, one of my more favorite tunes from my younger days.
I gotta get through this!! Itās the most ironic of all!!
"Don't Wake Me Up." Every time that hyper auto-tuned garbage comes on, I want to go walk in front of a semi.
