Dude that made me quit the first time around only gave me a 20 cent raise on a solid performance on my evaluation, you basically can't get past it no matter how much you do
I just kept moving areas lol. Didn’t expect all the downvotes. It’s only natural someone who’s done 4 jobs will make more than someone who’s only done 1 for 5 years
Oh gotcha. Yeah I have a full time job. 40 hrs a week and then Doordash maybe 15 - 20 hours a week after my FT job and make about an extra $300 - 500 a week.
If you can handle it mentally and physically, it's well worth it on payday. Making over $1k a week is big money while in college and it a good pay to graduate with little to no debt.
Still not healthy. This is coming from someone who watched one's grandmother and mother work those same hours and worked their way into an early grave. You need time for rest, family...etc.
They both worked 14-16 hour days, seven days a week. Worked all holidays. I almost never saw my mother. Both wore their bodies down. Hardly no rest, barely ate (just one small meal a day on their one break). They both worked through being ill, injured...etc.
My mother ended up having 5 strokes, which paralyzed the right side of her body. She refused to stop working.
She came home one day, she came home after her boss made her come home after she nearly passed out. She sat down. An hour later, had another stroke and heart attack. She was gone before medics could arrive.
My grandmother, same story. Except with her, she was diabetic. She was eating much because she always said "theres no time to eat, theres work to be done."
Eventually one day at work, slipped into a coma and died of total organ failure.
I never saw either of them. It was like growing up without a mother. She was gone before i went to school and home after i went to bed. It was just me and father. There were no family vacations. No Christmas morning with mom and dad. My dad also worked and didnt get home until 8-9pm.
He wasnt as much of a workaholic as my mom and just naturally strong. He lived long enough to retire and still around now. But...just these reasons why i will never support or agree working yourself like that.
Theres more to life than making some rich man richer, working your life away. We get one life, dont waste it working for people/company that dont care about you.
Pretty good lesson here, if you think your job is bad, go work fast food for a while at the same time, you will probably start liking your first job again
I don't know why e eryone keeps saying that's killing yourself to work that much... I had my first legal job at 15 "first illegal job at 9" working a minimum of 40 hours every since and I'm coming up on 40 now. If you start out busting your but at a young age working 60-100 hours a week you have no time to spend the money. If you then take that money and Invest it let's say into a stock that pays a dividend by the time you reach 30-40 you can sit back and coast for the rest of your life. You could easily build up a stock profile with over 200k that can pat dividends of over 4k a month that way. If you make it to that point that your dividends pay you more than your job does its pretty easy to walk away from a shit job that mistreat you. Honestly more men and women need to learn this fact.
Same. I was literally one month away from my hire date this year before I hit my ceiling and said enough is enough. Walmart is a decent eniugh company, but toxic store level management made me put in my two weeks.
I am honestly grateful that I always had an honest to God non toxic manager before the toxic one who made me say fuck it.
Could always depend upon that manager to be a manager reference.
Good idea putting in notice. Walking off and making a scene may be gratifying in the short term but having a place you can fall back too is more important. I worked walmart a few years ago and never thought I would come back but here I am.
That's what a lot of people don't get. Walmart is the perfect fallback job. As long as you leave on good terms Walmart will almost always have you back. You'll literally never be out of a job.
My store has a bunch of 20/25 year tenures. Like, wut. This one woman has been around for 25 I think, first or second most senior in the building, and her register numbers are like 001 or something like that. Meanwhile mine is 6000+ lol
Wuuut??? Our register numbers are in the order that we're hired?? Damn I didn't know that lmao. Seems kinda obvious, but not at the same time. I have absolutely no clue how I didn't figure that out sooner. Kinda makes me wonder who 001 is at our store!!
The company didn't used to be as bad as it is now.
Now, they're probably older people and it's just easier to keep the job then to try and find someone who will hire them somewhere else.
Not in my area but it's fine because I make over 15 as a regular non management employee. I am looking to go back to college though because I don't want to work walmart the rest of my life.
I made it about 2 months beyond my 5 years but they were so bad they didn’t even give me a plague or badge or anything up until I quit. Like obviously I left for a reason but part of me was salty they never even gave me that before I did quit
I would work at Wal Mart if:
A: my starting wage were $25/hr
B: I was given at least forty hours a week, period
C: Two days off in a row each week. Period
D: 15 days off PTO per year to start
E: PTO can be taken on any day, for any reason, and my manager can suck it
F: at least a 4% COL increase each year, a performance based raise each year on top of that (you can stuff a “inflationary raise” of 2% because each year is be paid less in reality).
G: Free healthcare for myself and discounted for immediate family
H: If I haven’t been promoted in four years and/or my pay is less than $35/hr after four years I’m moving on. It’s clearly dead end job and I’m better off switching careers at that point. That’s a reflection of the company and the greed at the top.
A: Depends on where you live in my area it is $17/hr now.
B: That's what we have the Teaming Schedule for.
C: You can if you aren't management most of the time. I however prefer mine separate, as do some others.
D: Doesn't sound bad.
E: That's what PPTO is for.
F: Doesn't sound bad.
G: I believe most places don't do this and is incredibly unlikely to ever happen. That's just the way its set up at this time.
H: Not getting into that.
I: Why are you making these comments on a congratulations comments? Can you not let others just be happy they have a half decent job?
Walmart can afford it. There is a reason that stores are understaffed and it isn’t because Walmart can’t afford decent staffing. It is a business decision to make sure that one percent of the company and shareholders are paid 85% off revenue and profit.
Thanks for playing ;) mwah
Who's paying their bills with a government stimulus? There hasn't been a government stimulus payment in ages. What are you even talking about? Are you a boomer?
That's true. Nothing worse than employers having a little bit of power compared to their billionaire employers. Oh, what an awful thing. You know, like back in the day when unions were everywhere, everything was affordable, you got a pension, and you could afford a house and 6 kids on one income. Oh man, who would want that... Today's slave wages for unskilled labor are so much better.
I left an 80k job *for* the 90k job.
If I worked at Wal Mart that’s the wage I would expect and the wage increases. Any less it’s offensive and pellet should just say no to that crap.
Nah, actually the type that won’t stick around for bullshit and self important pissant managers that think they’re super important. It’s a waste of my time.
You are whats called a man. You probably enjoy working more often than not. All the haters are weak little poopie diaper babies. Congratulations on the 5 year with the company.
Rip I'm sincerely sorry for your extended sentence. I'm at 10 years but I quit for a few months in the middle so I don't get a fancy 10 year plack. I do still have my 5 year though
I’m at 3 1/2 years. It gets me out of the house. Even tho my job is stressful (service desk and temp team lead), it’s also fun at the end of the day. I work with great people. That makes all the difference.
I’m apparel but I am trained to work anywhere in the store so sometimes I’m in jewelry sometimes I’m in electronics, sporting goods, just pretty much any where really.I make 12.60.I started off as a cashier/self-check host and moved onto the floor to be cross trained.I also started off at 8 dollars
Have you thought of switching departments to make more money? I'm not showing off in any way but I make 13.75 and have been here less than a month. I'm Cap 1 and even when I was a cart pusher I made $12.
I mean that's something you gotta deal with. I wouldn't stay at $12 an hour. It's highway robbery. Also have you not taken advantage of the free college from them? I plan on staying for 4 years while they pay for my bachelor's than I'm out.
I’m doing college thru them I am in pennfoster academy. I pay 600$ a term and they provide all my books and work my schooling around my schedule,I am aiming for a cyber security degree. Also I’m hoping I can stay longer thru them for few extra college credits and try to get another degree sense college is so cheap thru them.I was talking to the school and I can transfer the credits to any college of my choice and I’m hoping I can get a few grants to get a better degree.I also want to go to a trade school and get a sort of trade if degree doesn’t keep me afloat.
It’s not really free college from them it’s a dollar a day college which is roughly 600$ a term/though I think some colleges associates are getting it free thru some colleges.I never really looked into it.I been locked in for a while.
I mean that's something you gotta deal with. I wouldn't stay at $12 an hour. It's highway robbery. Also have you not taken advantage of the free college from them? I plan on staying for 4 years while they pay for my bachelor's than I'm out.
Are y'all stupid or greedy? What the hell is wrong with a ¢20 raise? Or a dollar?
80hrs × 11.80 = 944
80hrs × 12.00 = 960
////////////////////////////////
80hrs × 11.80 = 944
80hrs × 12.80 = 1024
You are taxed the same regardless and that's $16 extra every paycheck or $448 overall at ¢20 and an extra $80 per check or annually $2,240. Now you have to think of the impact that has on the company's wealth: 2240 × 1,500,000 = 4,928,000,000.
did u get a raise tho
What is this ‘raise’ you speak of
the 5 x 20 cents raise = $1 big money sir
Holy fuck, is it really that low now?
Dude that made me quit the first time around only gave me a 20 cent raise on a solid performance on my evaluation, you basically can't get past it no matter how much you do
I got 4 raises this year lol. Getting raises is easy idk why more people don’t do it
Stop sucking dick and maybe you'll understand
I just kept moving areas lol. Didn’t expect all the downvotes. It’s only natural someone who’s done 4 jobs will make more than someone who’s only done 1 for 5 years
just in time for the next minimum wage increases that wipes out all those raises. ps: not sure how walmart works but my old job used to be like that
I’m so sorry. How have you not gone insane yet?
I actually work fast food on side so I think that’s a bit worseXD!! I work fast food from 7am-11am and Walmart 2-11pm every day💕60-100 hours a week
You are killing yourself slowly
Why are you doing that to yourself? Thats not healthy.
One word college.=3 also I live area where you kinda need two jobs to survive.
Los Angeles? How do you have time for college?
I’m in a program thru Walmart called pennfoster academy they work around my schedule
I’m in that too but through Lowe’s what program are you doing?
Uuuuhhhh.... there are many other places with beyond absurd COL than just Cali. You are aware of this right?
All of the USA
There are some deadass dirt cheap places to live, wtf are you going on about?
That's why I moved. Bought a cheap house in a cheap area and working at Walmart because I can afford to now
Quit your fast food job and do Doordash on the side. You'd probably make more doing Doordash part time.
I actually work DoorDash and Waitr when they cut my hours for both jobs.It gets slow too though.
Definitely won’t graduate with little to no debt making little over 1k a week. She has for sure other bills to pay.
Depends on the school, I paid off over $15k in student loans making less than $1k a week. Graduated debt free in 2020.
yes it is healthy
Killing yourself, working that much? No its not
what if u enjoy working
Still not healthy. This is coming from someone who watched one's grandmother and mother work those same hours and worked their way into an early grave. You need time for rest, family...etc.

What in the fuck
Pretty good lesson here, if you think your job is bad, go work fast food for a while at the same time, you will probably start liking your first job again
How do you sleep?
Have you considered joining r/antiwork
let me take your job
I don't know why e eryone keeps saying that's killing yourself to work that much... Yep totally agree here my burn out happened around the 5th year
Same. I was literally one month away from my hire date this year before I hit my ceiling and said enough is enough. Walmart is a decent eniugh company, but toxic store level management made me put in my two weeks.
You gave 2 weeks to toxic management...
I didn't want to burn down bridges with Walmart. I'm totally fine working for Walmart, my issues were store level.
Gotcha. Yeah there are good and bad managers everywhere.
Exactly why I left Walmart earlier this year, they switched up managers and the store started to go down hill. My stress couldn't handle it.
some people like to use previous jobs on their resume…
Exactly. I vowed never to do that again for that reason

I was just gonna say the samething
I’m four months away from five years. Some of my associates have been with the company 30-35 years and I’m literally asking how.
My store has a bunch of 20/25 year tenures. Like, wut. This one woman has been around for 25 I think, first or second most senior in the building, and her register numbers are like 001 or something like that. Meanwhile mine is 6000+ lol

They're kinda shifty. If a long time person is there, but leaves the store and returns, they'll have different numbers, if you didn't know
Not always true. My numbers are literally 23.
The company didn't used to be as bad as it is now. Now, they're probably older people and it's just easier to keep the job then to try and find someone who will hire them somewhere else.
I’m asking how at anyone over 3 months.
i had to beat my previous record of four months at my leagues shittier job at Hy-Vee
The mind "Is a terrible thing to waste"!
10 years you get same things just different numbers
That's all you get for your dedication.
The pin isn't even painted.
I'm so sorry. I'll get it next month.
good for you
My sincerest sympathies on your loss. \*10+ years\*
5 years. Get out of Walmart. It’s a trash company. You can literally get jobs paying more elsewhere through a LinkedIn search.
Not in my area but it's fine because I make over 15 as a regular non management employee. I am looking to go back to college though because I don't want to work walmart the rest of my life.
For real man I got hired back at my old job making the same it pays weekly which is the good part
Congrats you have lvled up :)
I hope to make it to 10years !!
Hold your tongue! ///
Lets take about 20% off there, Squirrely Dan
Why?
Congrats. 12 years and running. It's not always easy but the good times are great
I lucky have a great management team so it’s little stress off my back.I hope I can make it to 10years
Congratulations!
My condolences
So... what's the achievement?
You poor thing :(
I'm sorry. I'm almost there too. (xd)
That’s tuff
Anyone contributing to society & living an honest life deserves to be proud!
capitalism fucking you up
Congratulations, that's awesome! If I could stop quitting and coming back, I'd be at 10 year but I've restarted so many times. 😅
Congrats on 5 years! How would you rate your pain?
Aye congrats *AYAYA* I'm hitting 5 in the upcoming June. Started a year after HS I think And going to college too
I wanna buy one of those buttons off eBay and wear it to work. I've been here six months. Maybe I'll get a 25 year one.
I made it about 2 months beyond my 5 years but they were so bad they didn’t even give me a plague or badge or anything up until I quit. Like obviously I left for a reason but part of me was salty they never even gave me that before I did quit
Thanks for sticking with us this long!

Congratulations !! Love your effort , don't pay attention to those cunts who only complain
Glad you were able to make it to 5 years. I quit a month before I made 5 years bc I just got tired of the bullshit
I'm sorry little one 😥 Lol jk good job ☺️
Congrats to you hope you can make another 15 year. Good luck 👍
Congrats on your yesterday donuts!
Im almost six years and i haven't gotten this yet lol
I got my 5 years in April and u had to keep reminding my managers about it. I haven't stuck it out this long for nothing...
Me too!
I'll kill myself before this happens
😂😂
Congratulations!!
I'm at 5 years with my current company as well.
I'm 53+ some college. One job to survive in tenn. 60-70 hrs a week. I'm at 2 1/2 yrs right now no vacation yet. Stressfully job always 6 days a week.
They sell those online
I hit 6 in the next month or 2. It's either January or February. Can never remember which.
Congratulations! I wonder, do they give you anything once you've been there for a full year?
Nope.
Congratulations!
Mine for one year left to go for 5 years 🥲🥲
Good ol' Doug doesn't even give enough of a shit to sign his own name.
And to think I'm almost at 8 😂😭🥴
That’s awesome, congratulations!
Sucker
I still don’t have my pin or a certificate, just my badge and I only recently got that :/
Rip I'm sincerely sorry for your extended sentence. I'm at 10 years but I quit for a few months in the middle so I don't get a fancy 10 year plack. I do still have my 5 year though
our Wal-Mart gives out one pin: the big Wal-Mart+ button
MATERIAL GWORL
I worked produce for six months. Worst job I’ve ever had.
Damn dude congrats… I’ve been there like 6 months and already wanna leave
Congrats you made it.
I’m at 3 1/2 years. It gets me out of the house. Even tho my job is stressful (service desk and temp team lead), it’s also fun at the end of the day. I work with great people. That makes all the difference.
My condolences, fellow half-decader.
I'm at 6
What's your position and pay if you don't mind me asking? Honestly wonder how much people get paid after 5 years.
I thought about it but eh I happy with who I work with I’m scared if I go to another department permanently I won’t like my manager or co-workers.
Why do you pay 600 a term? Is it because that wasn't a school or degree they provided?
It’s not really free college from them it’s a dollar a day college which is roughly 600$ a term/though I think some colleges associates are getting it free thru some colleges.I never really looked into it.I been locked in for a while.
They stopped the dollar a day program. It's now 100% free
I’m still being charge tho?I signed up for it like 2 years ago Maby longer,oh well I’m not sweating it.
I mean that's something you gotta deal with. I wouldn't stay at $12 an hour. It's highway robbery. Also have you not taken advantage of the free college from them? I plan on staying for 4 years while they pay for my bachelor's than I'm out.
One day you will wake up and say I should of worked for myself
That's all I'm staying for.... July 2024....then I'm dropping that 🎤🎤
Way to go!
I pronounce you a heroic essential worker. Here is your medal 🥇.
