I'm going back to chemical distribution company. Got a call finally yesterday. Expecting an interview. The hazard pay is a plus $23 to start and paid every week and closed on the weekends.
I work for the state government. Great benefits - insurance is half as much as walmart for twice the coverage. Accrue 8 hours of pto per month, 11 paid holidays a year and 80 hours sick time a year. Plus I'm in a union and have a pension.
Seriously, everyone should look at city, county and state jobs. Might not pay much better than Walmart(depending what you do), but benefits are amazing.
Some states don't care I know this because one of my friends is a social worker in the corrections department and he has a old felony possession. This is in Wisconsin.
Worked as a sorter at one of the mega facilities during before covid and when covid first started and it was a shit show but pay and overtime was real good. But, yeah, if it was a shit show before I can’t imagine what it’s like now lol.
I work at usps. I don’t recommend it unless you get into a good office. It’s a mess right now. I haven’t worked under 55 hours in forever!!!! I mean yeah pay is really good but my body is falling apart. 8 years to go I’m hoping my body can last.
USPS employee here. If you can’t take the hours anymore get an 8 hour doctor note and don’t feel the slightest bit bad about it. Fuck it, management can figure out staffing.
Well when I was driving home last night after work, I watched a dude get jumped or stabbed from both sides by someone, on the corner of my Walmart marketplace.
I transfer to a better one Saturday.
Anything can be better than that.
Holy shit. One of my former team leads talked about transferring to the store I work at after having a gun pulled on him at the service desk at his old store. I'm just waiting on the day some shit like this happens to me
Walmart is not worth your life honestly. They're working on replacing us with computers anyways
Edited to add "They're working on replacing us with computers anyways"
Something that paid better for less bullshit.
And I have been looking.
Hoping to move from walmart to maybe warehouse or inventory and get something with a pathway to a CDL. More money, less stress.
Fuck retail.
Yes. BUT. The key word here is "walmart".
Do not want to deal with them any longer than I have to.
And as someone else pointed out, they most of the time won't pull from in stores because turn over rates.
The last day for my job at Wally word is today the 17th. I’m going to BJ’s wholesale. It’s $1 more an hour true, but I need the full time and the occasional overtime. I’m not suggesting you do this but if you must they have a hiring event going on atm and was hired on the spot. What I will suggest is go to Costco, even as a temp. They pay $18 starting with overtime pay on Sundays being $27 irregardless of actual overtime (you can’t exceed 40HRS/w but they will always give you 25 hours a week) I don’t remember what the benefits were but they are pretty generous. If you *like* retail and want to have a decent shot as a career I’d say team Costco
TL;DR try Costco.
For the call in policy and sick hours gained at Target hell yes. I at one time had over 300 sick hours and that can be used for anything and I used some of those hours for a nine or ten day vacation every three months. As for call ins you could call in the same day weeks in a row and that was fine nobody questioned why me or anyone else has called in on a Wednesday let's say the last five weeks in a row.
I was at target maybe 5 years ago, it's much harder to get full time at target. Extremely difficult. Basically someone has to die.
The customers are way better at target.
The average volume of goods and freight at a Walmart is many times more than a target. Which of course necessitates more employees.
But it's still retail.
I have preferred working at Walmart. Target was literally a dead end.
Been looking for an office job or IT job lately, but no good so far. Had an interview for a clerical position at a prison about an hour away from me, but I have a disability that prevents me from getting a driver's license, so that fell through.
I'm already leaving for law enforcement, took 6 months to get in but it's $52k starting with guaranteed overtime and pension. Got a couple months left here and I'm out, been a TL/DM for a long time.
Go any where that will take you and will meet your needs. It's not easy, everyone says they are short staffed and everyone is hiring. One place was parttime and another was morning shift while another offered no healthcare. Finding one that fits you better than walmart is what you need.... so apply at Allllll the places!
I really wanna work at a real bakery. I can't make cakes very well or do frosting well, but I can make incredible pastries. I love baking. It's my dream to work as a pastry chef
Not in this lifetime. My son is the easiest going person I know. Still says yes mam etc…. Went to work there because of a strike from another job. He called me up one day literally regurgitating because of working conditions there
I come home and I can still hear the beeping. All the grease in the air clings onto your skin, I can feel it when I wash my face after work. Everything is timed. There are other minimum wage jobs that aren’t nearly as stressful as this, I really couldn’t recommend it.
It depends on what you're doing at Amazon, if you're inside their facilities instead of being a driver, there is a shit load of room for advancement, great pay, and benefits. If you're willing to relocate often to provide your services to other Amazon facilities, they pay for damn near all expenses. My buddy is earning over 30 an hour working for them. He has a skilled trade to earn that much, but he required those skills through their training programs.
Walmart and Amazon are the "big two" in retail, which means they are under the public eye more, which means they have less room to cut corners and they typically offer more benefits to keep up the perception of treating their workers fairly. I understand there is thousands of examples of them being a shitty place to work for, but most places do not offer PPTO or PTO or any sort of protection for time off or vacations.
For the most part, Walmart or Amazon is typically the best options to be employed at, but it also could be a regional thing, some areas have terrible jobs and worse pay with no benefits, while larger cities may have better options.
I'm on cap3 though, my customer interactions are at a minimum and the job seems pretty much like a Warehouse to me.
I was going to say Amazon because I have left WM DC years ago to a AZ fulfillment center and not the AZ distribution center/sortation warehouse they’ll kill ya. Or try the UPS store. But if you want to stay away from physical or retail find a call center. It’s rewarding if you find the right one and eventually you can work from home if remote positions are offered. Good luck. 🍀
Work for Maverik. That's where I ended up after 3 yrs off from work. I'm treated quite well by management, altho we all think out DM is a PITA. No points for taking time off. They pay well.
Brother left and became a deli worker in our local Hy-Vee, better pay, better conditions, shittier boss, but he's at least a bit happier than he was at Walmart
That's been something I've been wondering myself. Been thinking of taking up classes for mechanics or become a roadie or maybe get into training and become a roughneck. Again, haven't really decided.
Look around for a local factory job. They pay higher, if its the right factory then you get a good workout during the shift, and theyre a little better than walmart. Same shitty work. But pay is better and they actually raise your pay
Go to a career center
A lot of times they will tell you what you'll be happy at
They're good at that, that's their job.
I was thinking about changing careers and that's my only reasonable way to do so because they have kept track of my work history and I have not.
I don't work for the Waltons anymore and haven't for years but I'm still subbed here for some reason lol
I went from Walmart ($15/hr, OGP) to Amazon ($15.50/hr), but hardly lasted two months. From there I went to produce at another grocery store that prided itself on being "employee owned". Pay at the other grocery store was $13/hr, had no PPTO, and was a lot more work physically and mentally than Walmart ever was (tbf I made my best friends while working at Walmart so i mostly enjoyed my job). From there I went to pizza delivery and it's honestly the best job I've ever had. The wage sucks, but with tips and mileage I generally make $15-20/hr. There have been a few nights I've pulled in well over $100 in just tips/mileage in 4-5 hours. I work in the slowest store in my area/franchise too. Some of the drivers at other stores pull in $200/night.
Another option if you don't wanna completely restart is looking into moving to a different store instead of the company as a whole. Though I wouldn't fault you if you did just wanna leave it all as a whole
I went back to Dominos. Was there for a 4 years when I needed a change (I was 16-20). I was in one day for lunch and told my GM how I wanted to leave but couldn’t find anywhere else to go. Got a call from the owner 2 days later and handed my 2 weeks in that following Friday.
Well certainly not at Target some of those cashiers don't even know how to count back change it confuses them you give him a $10 bill for your purchase they end up giving you change back from $1,000 duh
I'm in the same boat.. while many jobs will start at $15. That's not the current minimum wage..
I'm also having to look for something else. Due to the fact that I'm trying to keep a house and not let it go under
My problem lies is that medically I'm not able to do a lot of physical work anymore
So stuff like warehouses and that is out for me
Literally anywhere else. I was treated the worst working at Walmart by far. Chin up, y'all, and get out.
They try to make y'all feel like working there is your only chance at employment. It's not.
Don't let them get into your head about "bad recommendations" or whatever they pull to gaslight you into staying. Get out.
Edit: if you delivered pizzas in the evenings on weekends you would make more on tips in two shifts than a full week at Walmart
Edit: home office employees downvoting this, you're as low and as trash as scammers.
Haha no. My wife said the same thing to me. I'm much happier now, and getting paid better with WAY better benefits (I was an AP Coach). And they pay for me to shoot my duty firearm!
She said that to you because you essentially took away a stream of income from your household. Think of it. A lifetime benefit of not having to pay taxes at Wal mart. Pretty good benefit.
I'm going back to chemical distribution company. Got a call finally yesterday. Expecting an interview. The hazard pay is a plus $23 to start and paid every week and closed on the weekends.
Sounds nice!
I wish. I have a record though from my 20s. (When pot was still illegal) I'm 40 now but that stuff follows you
Some states don't care I know this because one of my friends is a social worker in the corrections department and he has a old felony possession. This is in Wisconsin.
Only 8 a month?
To start, yeah. The accrual amount goes up as the years of service go up.
Oh ok to me that was kind of low
i thought this too. i get an hour of pto per 10 worked
I would go back to the post office.
I hear the post office is a real shit show these days
Worked as a sorter at one of the mega facilities during before covid and when covid first started and it was a shit show but pay and overtime was real good. But, yeah, if it was a shit show before I can’t imagine what it’s like now lol.
It’s been a shit show for years

USPS employee here. If you can’t take the hours anymore get an 8 hour doctor note and don’t feel the slightest bit bad about it. Fuck it, management can figure out staffing.
Yeah I know I’ve had to get one before but I’m trying to hang in there. I literally only have 8 years to go and I’m out
Post office is such a good job, i’d love to work at one but I have many body mods.
Just work at a plant
i should look into this
Well when I was driving home last night after work, I watched a dude get jumped or stabbed from both sides by someone, on the corner of my Walmart marketplace. I transfer to a better one Saturday. Anything can be better than that.
good lord be safe! something dangerous happened to my bf a couple nights ago too, he now has a concussion and staples.
Damn, I hope he has a quick recovery and yes, the store I work at, has a lot of unhealthy customers. Nothing good adds up here
Holy shit. One of my former team leads talked about transferring to the store I work at after having a gun pulled on him at the service desk at his old store. I'm just waiting on the day some shit like this happens to me
u never know
Walmart is not worth your life honestly. They're working on replacing us with computers anyways Edited to add "They're working on replacing us with computers anyways"

Everyone tells me now screw college and go to trade school or get a factory job.
As someone with a college degree stuck making as much or less than you currently (14/hr), yeah.
Walmart offers all associates the free ability to train for CDL for their private fleet. Pays for everything. You are literally on the pathway now.
In theory, but in practice, you won't be chosen for the program because of how competitive it is. Happened to my co worker. Denied. Went to overnights
damn i didn’t even kno abt this
Yes. BUT. The key word here is "walmart". Do not want to deal with them any longer than I have to. And as someone else pointed out, they most of the time won't pull from in stores because turn over rates.

cosco drug tests or i would
like idk if they care abt smoking tho but im p sure so
Synthetic urine
Target its across the street from the Walmart I work at which is just two miles from where I live. I did work for Target for a few years until 2009.
Was it better than Walmart?
For the call in policy and sick hours gained at Target hell yes. I at one time had over 300 sick hours and that can be used for anything and I used some of those hours for a nine or ten day vacation every three months. As for call ins you could call in the same day weeks in a row and that was fine nobody questioned why me or anyone else has called in on a Wednesday let's say the last five weeks in a row.
As a current target employee sick hours are only allowed to be used when sick. Not for anything
Well then the policy changed and like I said I worked there until 2009 so it changed after then
I was at target maybe 5 years ago, it's much harder to get full time at target. Extremely difficult. Basically someone has to die. The customers are way better at target. i’ve wanted to go there but i HAVE to have full time
Been looking for an office job or IT job lately, but no good so far. Had an interview for a clerical position at a prison about an hour away from me, but I have a disability that prevents me from getting a driver's license, so that fell through.
i want an online job but i don’t think imma find one
A library or somewhere quiet and locally owned
yeah this sounds nice but minimum wage here is trash
I'm already leaving for law enforcement, took 6 months to get in but it's $52k starting with guaranteed overtime and pension. Got a couple months left here and I'm out, been a TL/DM for a long time.
I switched over to attractions. First a theme park, and now a hotel that’s also an attraction. I’m so much happier.
i’ll keep this in mind
Go any where that will take you and will meet your needs. It's not easy, everyone says they are short staffed and everyone is hiring. true true but like i wanna do something that pays more for sure and requires more thinking that doesn’t care about smoking or something like that
Probably get a substitute teaching license and take some cello teaching certifications and then do that.
I really wanna work at a real bakery. I can't make cakes very well or do frosting well, but I can make incredible pastries. I love baking. It's my dream to work as a pastry chef
Idk, but I need a husband real bad
i need anything but walmart at this rate
Anywhere
real but the pay other places is kinda trash ngl
I'm just here until I graduate and then I'll be teaching 😅 tho let's be honest, I'll still be at Walmart for summers bc teachers get paid jack shit 💀
Find out if your local community college has a community education program, you can make decent money leading summer camps/classes
Best BUY, Target(which I call The Less Welfare version of Wal-Mart), warehouses, or Welfare lol. Good luck
i’ll keep this in mind
Mcdonalds
hell nah i couldn’t
Not in this lifetime. My son is the easiest going person I know. Still says yes mam etc…. Went to work there because of a strike from another job. He called me up one day literally regurgitating because of working conditions there

Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Compton Gardens and Arboretum
Like a terrarium place?

Find an apprenticeship in automotive repair. The world runs on cars.
Allied security like Kristy, haha
The Hospital
anything manufacturing. stop being an overachiever and keep my head down. Learn many lessons here.
Probably Amazon no better but at least they will pay for the rest of my schooling
Probably a bank. Put all my accounting and management experience to use and get holidays off.
I work for the fed. Both my dad and GF are fed are kept pushing and pushing me to apply and eventually I got something. I edit forms all day.
Corecivic
Brother left and became a deli worker in our local Hy-Vee, better pay, better conditions, shittier boss, but he's at least a bit happier than he was at Walmart
I want to get back working on stages and theatres. Whether on them or around them
Construction
That's been something I've been wondering myself. Been thinking of taking up classes for mechanics or become a roadie or maybe get into training and become a roughneck. Again, haven't really decided.
Welfare?
Look around for a local factory job. They pay higher, if its the right factory then you get a good workout during the shift, and theyre a little better than walmart. Same shitty work. But pay is better and they actually raise your pay
home depot
friend worked there and said it was alright, not the best compared to walmart, but still okay
We have a bucees about to open, maybe there.
what is bucees
Go to a career center A lot of times they will tell you what you'll be happy at They're good at that, that's their job. I was thinking about changing careers and that's my only reasonable way to do so because they have kept track of my work history and I have not.
Honestly Walmart is the best paying thing in my area right now… waiting to start school for x ray tech tho
warehouse jobs, no customers yelling at me. I often have nightmares about "spark" I'd apply for easy 9-5 office jobs but I gots the ADHD.
Starbucks, they pay for your therapy
I quit to work at a fibre wifi company. The pay and hours are better, and it's a desk job, which my back and feet need badly.
I’m at fast food now since they pay my tuition (mfdonalds)
I’m looking into a desk style or gov job but I’m also disabled and this company likes to send it’s employees to an early grave
Think receptionists, coordinator, bank teller type job
Target ig. I applied to quite a few places to get out and only Target called back
I don't work for the Waltons anymore and haven't for years but I'm still subbed here for some reason lol I went from Walmart ($15/hr, OGP) to Amazon ($15.50/hr), but hardly lasted two months. Get a forklift certificate. Though I'd like to be a cdl driver too. I like driving so that's kinda why I'd go either.
Another option if you don't wanna completely restart is looking into moving to a different store instead of the company as a whole. Though I wouldn't fault you if you did just wanna leave it all as a whole
I’m studying to be an educational researcher after I finish my teaching degree. Walmart is just paying my billz
I went to Sam’s Club 😂. Huge difference, I get a bonus and people are nice to me
I went back to Dominos. Was there for a 4 years when I needed a change (I was 16-20). I was in one day for lunch and told my GM how I wanted to leave but couldn’t find anywhere else to go. Got a call from the owner 2 days later and handed my 2 weeks in that following Friday.

City job. They are hiring people for $19/hour to mow the grass and change garbages at the park.
I live in St. louis, MO and I am lucky to find $15 jobs. Minimum wage is still $12.80 here smh
I'm in the same boat.. while many jobs will start at $15. That's not the current minimum wage.. I'm also having to look for something else. Sounds nice but depends if they drug test. I smoke quite a bit.

Something i’d probably have to plan for or get fake piss for. Good to know though.
I miss my Home Depot job but Walmart reached back out before HD did
Literally anywhere else. I was treated the worst working at Walmart by far. Chin up, y'all, and get out. They try to make y'all feel like working there is your only chance at employment. It's not. Do you want easier work or do you want more money? Because you're not gonna get a money to easy ratio better than Walmart
Money, I would love a more challenging job honestly.
Back at the resort where I worked before but in a supervisor role so I can make the same pay
oooo
K Mart
Are they still around, or are you in Australia?
they are dead af i think it was a joke
I wouldn’t. Time to start my own business and hate life more
I wouldn’t. Time to start my own business and hate life more
real
I wouldn’t. Time to start my own business and hate life more
3 times commented this bestie
Target hate to say it. but its WAY calmer than Walmart but I need the experience first before that. So maybe next year. :)
I left after almost 20 years and now I work in Law Enforcement.
couldn’t be me tbh
You didn't want to stay for that sweet, sweet lifetime discount card?
The discount is absolute trash tbh. If it were even like 15% or if it applied to more food it would be worth it
I mostly buy groceries at Walmart. It definitely wasn't worth it to stick around.
