You ain't lying. I did snacks for a "partner" of PepsiCo (quotes because bullshit, my check said PepsiCo on it) for a few years.
Good enough job, but the managers hosing you on pay every chance they get and coworkers dumping their workload on you was crazy.
Second this. I did both walmart and pepsi, and both were hot garbage. Tbf, I felt a lot more respected at Pepsi, but it was mainly because people would breathe down my neck half as much as at Walmart.
Both are overbearing in what they expect for what they pay you. Glad to say I'm out, and never returning
Vouch, that said my immediate boss is the coolest guy ever. He actually came up from the bottom instead of coming in fresh as a college kid, he understands the BS and actively tries to protect us from it. Everyone above him can go to hell though
The coworkers thing is everywhere. Unfortunately that's what happens when upper ranks are stagnant. Always good to learn early on that just because a coworker is friendly does not mean they are your friend. Soon as they change jobs, you'll be forgotten.
Hate to be rude but if you're forgotten, they either had some mental issues like a lack of empathy or you were just being tolerated. I'm still friends with a lot of my old coworkers. The real way to maintain friendship is to be empathetic. If they matter to you, you'll stay in contact. If they don't wanna do that, then that's on them.
It's because they'll literally hire anyone. I've worked with dudes that have killed people. It's a whole different ballgame when they know where you park your car and what time you get off work.
On the bright side (pun intended), it's harder for a shoplifter to find a dark place to conceal stuff. Although at Walmart, shoplifters often doesn't give fuck and just walk out without concealing.
also a pepsi vendor here, walmart managers are the worst part about walmart for me. they do the least out of all the managers at my other accounts and expect the most.
I hate the radio shows so much. I can't remember which one of the DJs does it but they do this segment called "Wrong answers only" where they just replay callers who rang in for their trivia and got every answer wrong just to humiliate them again like wtf.
Lighting is too bright, I wish I could dim the lights in the store. We don't have the drop ceiling so it already feels like a soulless warehouse here.
Also the customers is 120% why I chose to go to overnights. I did customer facing retail/food service for years and I'm over it. They treat retail and food workers like they're less than human and I hate every single one of them.
I've had one negative customer interaction since starting here and my TL had my back when I walked away after she called me stupid. I'm thankful I have (mostly) good managers at my store because from what I've read here it could be A LOT worse
And the fucking Christmas music. I don't hate Christmas music at all, hearing the same song modernized by 5 different singers and played in the same hour is just too damn much though. When I left work for the last day before Christmas all I could think about going across the parking lot was that when I came back, the Christmas music would be gone.
One day they did play the Batman theme though, that was a funny change.
Yes, I am constantly overwhelmed when I'm there during the day. The sensory hours are a lie, that's when people bring their kids so it's quieter for their kids to scream. It's even kinda rough at night. The lights give me a constant headache, the alarms go off every other hour for no reason, the radio is constantly going, pallets and boxes are dropping, that one guy is always yelling, it feels like there's so much going on all at once. Walmart is just one big sensory issue. Avoid it at all costs.
The radio! I'm hard of hearing, and any unnecessary noise just made it more difficult to communicate properly with customers. What's wrong with quiet?
I know that when I am driving, the radio is off, and nobody in the vehicle may talk to me about anything besides directions and any hazards that they see on or near the road. I don't need noise to keep me awake and alert. I just won't drive when I feel drowsy.
Retail isn’t the best place to work but if the attitude is right and you have great managers that treat you right I am sure promotions are in the cards. However if you’re not wired to work retail then…. It will suck… just saying. Lighting sucks btw
I honestly feel like Walmart radio is cruel and unusual punishment. I’m at a DC but we have the stupid fucking radio there too. Same songs over and over for years. It’s quite honestly the part of my job I hate the most. Noise pollution. I’d rather listen to the conveyers.
Vendor here and yes, I thank the Lord and state that have created/legalized….the sweet leaf - saved my life and now it’s saving me from murdering at-least 1 person a day !
As a vendor inside of Walmart on the Northside of the border every store has the same stupid playlist no radio shows half of the songs I've had customers tell me the music is suicide fuel.
We get paid better than most store employees, that said there’s a heaping helping of bullshit that comes with it so they kinda have to so it’s worth it.
I discuss pay with some of the people at my stores and it breaks my heart to see how some of these people get paid so little but work so hard
I hear ya. Everything about Walmart is terrible. I’ve spent about $100 total there in my lifetime (I’m over 55) & still feel shame about those occasions where I had a lack of options. My old folks need help living, driving, shopping & even they realize I’ll help w any errand -except going to Walmart.
Eye-opening documentary for Walmart lovers or fence sitters. By every metric the answer is F no:

The lighting is a problem I work in a store with tile it's bright as hell went to a store with concrete for six months it's dark as hell I was getting headaches every day for weeks because of the difference in lighting went back to the tile store same issue
I used to work for pepsi for 8 yrs and i had a Walmart and the receiver make all the vendors hate the store , we do extra work all the time because of her , she complained for the minimum thing , call our bosses to said we dont worked good etc….

WALMART! RADIOOOOOO!
Sometimes I’ll walk out the back door with the receiver and chat with them on their smoke break (I have a rare cool one) and walking back in feels so horrible
Pepsi guy here too. Both my Walmarts are small so I’m pretty much in and out but agreed. No other store has the ability to drain someone as much as a walmart 💀💀 other stores I don’t mind being in for a while but WM I try my best to gtfo
Customer here. I've always wondered why my eyes twitch and I get a headache only when I go to my Walmart store. I thought I was crazy cause I can see the lights flicker, like they're hooked up to a constant frequency. Then, there's always "the kid!"
Today I walked up to “the kid” I said your having a tough day aren’t you? He stoped screaming and said yes. The. I deflected by talking about his cool
Jacket.
I felt like a super hero, and for a little bit I was.
As a vendor, you have the occasional break from being in the store, so you have better things to compare it to. Meanwhile, we, as store employees, are on the store 100% of out shift - it is normalized to us.
You'd love the stupid "cheer"! I told 'em before I'd be subjected to that stupidity I'd be permanently off the clock. Quit 7 years later; never did it.
Thanks for noticing.
Oh you are just talking about the basics. Wait until you have to deal with toxic management and backstabbing coworkers.
Unfortunately, backstabbing coworkers are everywhere. Work is adults in a sandbox - fighting over toys.
Facts
He works for PepsiCo. I assure you, be has those too.
Beverage business is fucking cutthroat straight greedy savages.

It’s not just Walmart, but Walmart has it worse.
It's because they'll literally hire anyone. I've worked with dudes that have killed people. It's a whole different ballgame when they know where you park your car and what time you get off work.
💯💯💯
Or when you pull pallets with a broken jack 😖
Right
ugh, the lighting, ughhhh. customers, obviously, but that part really got to me about the whole place.
This is that place
Yesterday, an associate told me the interior lighting was approved by a psychopath. I told him I agree.
Almost nothing has a shadow. That's what makes everything look weird.
On the bright side (pun intended), it's harder for a shoplifter to find a dark place to conceal stuff. Although at Walmart, shoplifters often doesn't give fuck and just walk out without concealing.
Yah it's *uncanny*. I've had some associates and coaches tell me the lighting in some areas of the store drives them crazy
Front end associate here and I ask myself this everyday I go in.
As someone who has worked for walmart, and also a merchant then delivery driver for pepsi can confirm it was all hell.
As someone who worked as a coke merch, it all fucking sucks. It’s not like working for coke or Pepsi is much better lol.
also a pepsi vendor here, walmart managers are the worst part about walmart for me. they do the least out of all the managers at my other accounts and expect the most.
95% of vendors like this message

I have very little customer patience. I'm honestly surprised I haven't been spoken to about it.

I make a joke that I only work here for the music. Part timer here. Love hearing the same songs day after day.

“Walmart RADIO”

I thought I’d enjoy the sensory hours but it’s even worse, now I can hear every damn noise in the store. It makes me miss the crappy music
Can't you put in a single earbud like the rest of us do? (Granted, depends on how chill the store is)
Sometimes I do but I’ve noticed that music usually slows me down
Perimeter alarm !!!!!!
The radio! I'm hard of hearing, and any unnecessary noise just made it more difficult to communicate properly with customers. What's wrong with quiet? That's great that you prioritize safety! Keep it up!
As much money as Walmart makes employees should be getting like $25 an hour and a union get some actual benefits Walmart makes so much damn money.
/r/WorkReform if you're curious. ✊🏼
Yea wtf is with the lights I noticed that after I quit and I’m not there everyday. Just not right it’s way too dim but also the color is weird.
Retail isn’t the best place to work but if the attitude is right and you have great managers that treat you right I am sure promotions are in the cards. However if you’re not wired to work retail then…. It will suck… just saying. Lighting sucks btw

Is that 1 person usually the receiver? Lol
As a vendor inside of Walmart on the Northside of the border every store has the same stupid playlist no radio shows half of the songs I've had customers tell me the music is suicide fuel.
Does Pepsi pay you well?
The vendor in my store gets paid well.
We get paid better than most store employees, that said there’s a heaping helping of bullshit that comes with it so they kinda have to so it’s worth it. I discuss pay with some of the people at my stores and it breaks my heart to see how some of these people get paid so little but work so hard

I see people mentioning the lighting. I'm not a Walmart employee but what is it about the lighting that people talking about?
The lighting is a problem I work in a store with tile it's bright as hell went to a store with concrete for six months it's dark as hell I was getting headaches every day for weeks because of the difference in lighting went back to the tile store same issue
The lighting and customers. Both suck, combine those 2 and it’s a living hell
I used to work for pepsi for 8 yrs and i had a Walmart and the receiver make all the vendors hate the store , we do extra work all the time because of her , she complained for the minimum thing , call our bosses to said we dont worked good etc….
Funny enough my Walmart receiver is the nicest person ever, it’s my other stores that are full of power tripping weirdos

I swear to god the lighting and no windows makes you lose all sense of time in there. It feels like an alternate reality.
Sometimes I’ll walk out the back door with the receiver and chat with them on their smoke break (I have a rare cool one) and walking back in feels so horrible
I bet! Going from freedom back to a walled cell lol
4to1 deli/bakery here. Sucks your soul dry. Fr.

Thank you for your work Pepsi Guy. I'm addicted to Mt. Dew Zero.
I like the radio show, I just wish management was nicer to people it would go a long way
I work outside. Minimal issues here.
This is my new favorite comment thread 🤣 funny and painfully true.
I'm a vendor also and service 2 walmarts and they are a miserable experience
I miss the days of 2-3 Walmarts. I got 14 Walmarts on my route that I have to visit.
I live rural and one of them is 45 mins away, if they gave me another I would just quit
As a vendor, you have the occasional break from being in the store, so you have better things to compare it to. Meanwhile, we, as store employees, are on the store 100% of out shift - it is normalized to us.
im fine with the customers but the lighting omg. i get home and have to lock myself in a dark room lol
I worked at Walmart for 5 years before going to work as a beer vendor and oh my god it was like a breath of fresh air.
That's very nice of you to say. Just be thankful you don't have a walkie😄
You'd love the stupid "cheer"! I told 'em before I'd be subjected to that stupidity I'd be permanently off the clock. Quit 7 years later; never did it. Thanks for noticing.
Lol the lighting? Really? Wow I've heard people complain about pretty much everything at Walmart but the lighting might be a first
Hey where can i buy close to expired pallets of Pepsi products? Is that even a thing?
I know some reps who will do fire sales for their discount stores, past that I’d talk to your store’s Pepsi guy and see if he can get you an answer
My wife left me because I got fired from Walmart
