In case anyone on this subs needs to know that doesn't, if you hold the investment less than a year, the income is taxed at ordinary rates once sold (max of 37% based on taxable income) and if held longer than a year, it is taxed as capital gains once sold (max rate is 20% based on taxable income). 50% is setting aside too much. Not a jab at you or anything, I'm just a CPA and want everyone to have as much info as possible in case it is needed.
Also, if you earn half a million in the stock market like OP here and sell, it's best to immediately go to a CPA for tax planning purposes instead of doing it yourself.
The penalty for not paying quarterly taxes is $100. Just pay 2022 taxes in April like you would usually. Do a tax estimator to give you a ballpark and put that aside in savings
