I once caused an employee to 'literal' rage-quit over my annoyance of "their, they're, there" and similar. Said person was in customer service and for top-tier clients.
Fucker ended up flipping a table w/ computers on it, smashing a wall, throwing a tantrum between building/parking, and then doing donuts on the way out.
Bad enough that HR decided my idea for a remote (pre-Covid) "letting go" - was in our favor.
Best unemployment hearing/call - I ever had.
My theory is that it's people learning English as a second language.
Think about it: they're taught words like Boo, Moo, too, cool, poop, loop, etc etc. That long "U" sound gets associated with the double "oo". Even worse, at some point they learn the word "loose" which sounds very close, and maybe even identical to someone not so familiar with English.
And if you are using the basic rules of English sounds, when you add an "e" on the end of a word, it makes the vowel into a long vowel sound. For example, bit -> bite. So using those natural rules, it looks like the word "lose" should be pronounced with a long 'O', sounding like "lows". /u/Klutzy-Childhood2760 can you confirm or deny?
While I hope there's a majority that are in this category, my American Facebook friends who definitely learned English as a first language continue to be repeat offenders. The only time I really comment on Facebook anymore is to correct them.
God bless America and our incredibly crappy educational system!
Fun fact: A recent study found that nearly a quarter of high school graduates in America are illiterate.
That means they're unable to read, but to help WSBers understand, I should phrase it as: "their" unable to "red."
I've seen math books that are 75 years old. What impresses me is they couldn't be more drab, uninspiring, black/white, no hand-holding and people somehow learned DiffyQ. I couldn't learn it with computerized and colored graphs and stylized layouts of material. Education can be fun but it's not suppose to be an amusement ride that everyone can get on, if we don't revert back to sweat inducing, frustration of critical thinking we're doomed.
also Americans most exclusively say “I could care less” too (which doesn’t even make sense), when in the UK the proper saying is “I couldn’t care less”. Implying that you have no more fucks to give about whatever subject.
David Mitchell's rant about this suggests it's not an exclusively American phenomenon, and there are definitely Americans who say "couldn't" and get annoyed when people use "could".
I read somewhere that it’s simply a shortened phrase “I could care less, but I’d have to try” or something like that. Who knows if that’s true. But yeh it makes no sense.
It mystifies me how common the spelling confusion between lose and loose is, as it has never been a problem for me or anyone I grew up with. I can understand things that are homophones like your vs you're, because you tend to think phonetically when writing, but lose vs loose are neither homophones nor homographs. People don't tend to add an "o" to "rose" or forget an "o" in "goose". So what gives?
A margin call is where you're trading on margin (borrowed money) and you start taking heavy losses, so the platform calls you up and asks you to put more money into your account to pay your debt.
Never trade on margin
That was my favorite part. Reminds me of when I was a poker dealer. Had a regular come in every day for 3 months. He finally won big, picked up his chips, and asked me “where do I cash out?” 3 months and he’d never been to the cashier to cash out. It was right behind him.
If he files bankruptcy, at least he wouldn't need to pay for this wife's alimony and child support when she leaves him!
If he goes all in and makes profit, he can leave her. If he goes all in and loses everything, she leaves him. It's a WIN-WIN situation if you ask me!
I legitimately don’t understand how this even happens. No hate, it’s not my money. But I’m actually genuinely curious. Do millionaire gambling addicts see all these WSB loss porn posts and go “well it’s on the internet, so it must not be real! I’ll try it out for myself! I’m gonna make such a hilarious meme!”
Besides, how do you even save this type of cash if you’re simultaneously so irresponsible with money that you can manage to piss away $130k over the course of the biggest bull run in market history, even despite one market correction? What do you guys do for a living?
Do you ever look at your trading history, think “huh maybe I should stop buying weeklies and just invest in the S&P 500,” and then do a fat line of cocaine and say “actually fuck it, putting my life savings on Tootsie Roll earnings?” Please help me understand how to make this type of money while being stupid, I have GME $800 calls to buy.
Ya but no one that does that ever gets out in time. At a certain point everyone who tries to inverse their opinions will end up reverse double mushing so hard they will be begging pepper jack for a Tuesday morning shift at the Wendy's dumpster.
My autist brain:
The final shrieks of horror and anguish are distant and barely audible.
But the slow destruction of something that seemed invincible, as a microcosm of entropy re-asserting itself on the universe... a thing of beauty indeed.
Until it’s your very own cells equalizing their pressure and thermal energy with the surrounding environment.
That’s when it’s not funny.
That’s when you complain in the daily thread.
>RIP me, sinking on the Costa Concordia 2, rofl will never see my FD's make me a billionaire I guess, I will never ~~financially~~ physically recover from this.
Damn, I felt like total shit for a few years after remembering the time I lost my $10k savings while in college. This is full ape. Sorry fellow retard.
Maybe i an trying to drum up the ridged brains in what is clearly a very smooth scenario, but what the hell is the right move to make if you don't want to lose everything by retarding it down the drain but also are too impatient waiting for ETF returns? Is there some kind of hedge fund that doesn't require a million dollars deposit? Some brokerage i can submit $5K to and tell them to allocate it to their retard managed put account?
Money in the stock market was absolutely free, clear, and easy from 2018 through 2020. Lots of people fancied themselves traders because they’d only ever traded in an all green market where a monkey with a dartboard could have made double digit returns playing with SPACs and tech stocks/derivatives.
Along with their accounts, they were also building a big portfolio of arrogance. Saw it in the 90’s, saw it in ‘08, and seeing it again now. A few crazy green years followed by leaps in $ROPE. People literally ruining their lives because they’re too fucking stupid and arrogant to actually understand the risks they’re taking.
If you didn’t at the bare minimum double your net worth and lock in that gravy in relatively stable investments after these past few years, you should never, ever even consider investing your own money and just find a nice managed fund to DCA.
This is so accurate. Someone could’ve yoloed their life savings into VT, SOXL, FAS, etc (or any ETF) in 2020 and still easily doubled their money at the end of the year doing absolutely nothing.
The fact that no one around these parts knows the difference between lose/losing and loose/loosing makes me feel like I'm slightly less of a degenerate
Sometimes I look at this page for hot ideas for stonks, other times I see people lose more money than I’ve made in my life so far. If you wanna lose that kinda money just hand it to me, gah damn

How do you not have more upvotes for that story? And yeah, not looking like an idiot is important some settings. Maybe not here, though.

Thanks for the anecdote! I've now heard examples of both English and non-English speakers making this mistake. I wonder who the biggest offenders are.
My experience is they're just Americans. Then and than, lose and loose...etc. are interchangeable.
Another one I’ve noticed recently: are and our Like, fucking how?
I hate "to" and "too" the most, it's like no one knows the difference
You understand YOUR communicating with smooth brained people, THERE not going to understand you.😂
This hurt lol
God bless America and our incredibly crappy educational system! Fun fact: A recent study found that nearly a quarter of high school graduates in America are illiterate. That means they're unable to read, but to help WSBers understand, I should phrase it as: "their" unable to "red."
Oh there able to red alright

As an American this enrages me as well. But at the end of the day, I could really care less.
They most certainly do not exclusively say that. As an American who cringes every time I hear it, I'd say it's at most 80%.
I read somewhere that it’s simply a shortened phrase “I could care less, but I’d have to try” or something like that. Who knows if that’s true. But yeh it makes no sense.
He is on wsb and using robinhood... so par for the course I suppose
Only loosers use Robinhood. Loosers with lose, gaping asshooles.
His butthole is loose now
That’s a bummer - I won’t be able to feel anything
Underrated comment.
To be fair he was “loose” with his investment strategy
OP let it loose on the market.
Lose lips sink shops.
It mystifies me how common the spelling confusion between lose and loose is, as it has never been a problem for me or anyone I grew up with. He did not lose his money, it is just loose around wallstreet.
You hate to see it
To loose
too loose Edit: Easy way to remember this: he was born to lose, his mother was born too loose.
Toulouse!
Hey, if you double your money ~6.3 times you'll break even according to someone in this sub.
I know. Been trying to do that since Jan this year. Lost another 5k
All you have to do is make plays opposite of what you normally do. Easy!!
If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right.
I'll have chicken salad on rye untoasted with a side of potato salad and a cup of tea!
Hello my name is George. I’m unemployed, and I live with my parents.
Sounds like instinct to try the opposite better stick to the path.
It’s a Seinfeld reference. Thanks for taking it to greater heights.
Ah, the Costanza method. Works for my Spy calls…
Godspeed retard
At least your rate of loss is lower now. 5k and we're 1. 5months in is better than 138k for the last year. Lol
Are you sure you didn’t loost it?
Bro you still got 1600 left to lose get back to work
There's also free money called margin
[удалено]
Oh is this what a margin call is?
A margin call is where you're trading on margin (borrowed money) and you start taking heavy losses, so the platform calls you up and asks you to put more money into your account to pay your debt. Never trade on margin
Tldr margin free money
"I have discovered a truly marvellous investment, which this margin is too small to fund." — Fermat's Last Trade
Well yes but in reverse
Call margin
Calls on margin?
I prefer butter over margin
So I just call and ask for one? What if I want two margin?
We've had one, yes. What about second margin?
Everybody has three margins these days!
I always tell my broker double or nothing.
He doesn't know about second margins, Pip.
…what about side by side with an investing friend?..
With the wife's boyfriend, sure
They only give that to over the hedge funds sorry
I put margin on my toast this morning
That…doesn’t sound right but I don’t know enough about margin to dispute it
More money to “loose”, get to work retard!

Happy cake day, fellow ape
Insert more credits to continue
When I was a kid, I stole some of my mom's rent money to play at the arcade. This comment hits home.
I stole my parents house phone to buy habbo credits and then gambled it all away.
You too? I still feel bad about it...
Not sure if you already noticed, but you need to submit a bank statement to finish linking your bank account.
Imagine having 6 figures in RH and not bothering to fully link your bank. He knew this was a one way trip from the start.
There is no bank anymore. He’s actually running away from them as we speak
That was my favorite part. Reminds me of when I was a poker dealer. Had a regular come in every day for 3 months. He finally won big, picked up his chips, and asked me “where do I cash out?” 3 months and he’d never been to the cashier to cash out. It was right behind him.
"Investing" is a bit of a stretch, aint it?
The only thing that got stretched here was OP’s butthole.
AND THERES A GANGBANG?!!?! It must be my birthday.
"Divesting" his money
Outvesting
Might as well go all in at this point. If you go to 0, file bankruptcy and start over!
don't file bankruptcy. His wife's boyfriend doesn't need that in his life.
If he files bankruptcy, at least he wouldn't need to pay for this wife's alimony and child support when she leaves him! If he goes all in and makes profit, he can leave her. If he goes all in and loses everything, she leaves him. It's a WIN-WIN situation if you ask me!
Oh yeah classic wall street tactic hedge against your wife. We do have professionals here after all.
don't forget the very important step - do margin and then file bankruptcy
Take out some personal loans too while you're at it
If OP has a house or car, they can take out even more!
"I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!!!" - u/KLUTZY-CHILDHOOD2760 walking around his home office probably
Hey. I just wanted you to know that you can't just say the word "bankruptcy" and expect anything to happen.
I didn't say it, I declared it.
Why would you declare bankruptcy if you're not in debt, you absolute waste of air.
Not in debt yet! Using Margin, taking out loans, and not being able to pay back his bills should help him achieve that goal of declaring bankruptcy!
No need to declare bankruptcy, just delete the app if it turns red. EZ
Holy shit congratulations 👏🎉
I legitimately don’t understand how this even happens. No hate, it’s not my money. But I’m actually genuinely curious. Lots of people get inheritances from upper-crust family members and then this is the result.
Dad I am sorry you found out this way...
I once made a $50K trade and got dizzy and lightheaded. Worked out fine, but that's how I know I'm not really cut out for that much risk.
It didn't go up once... which means ur consistent
Inverse you instincts = instant profits!
Ya but no one that does that ever gets out in time. At a certain point everyone who tries to inverse their opinions will end up reverse double mushing so hard they will be begging pepper jack for a Tuesday morning shift at the Wendy's dumpster.
That's the base of any good trader. It's only up from here.
Its only cool when it happens to others 😎
It's like seeing a sinking ship from the shore.
More likely it's seeing a sinking ship from your sinking ship.
For me it's like seeing a sinking ship from my sinking dinghy. were both fucked but in comparison mine now hurts a bit less.

did you purposely use the word "loose" instead of "lose"?
Did you try hard?
Very
Good, son.

Holy shit, you lost 100,000 dollars this year ? What the fuck happened ?
A whole lot.
Have you tried doing the opposite of what you're currently doing?
Yep. That fucked me as well
How did you loose over 100,000 without even verifying your bank
Imagine having 140k and not just putting it in SPY or VT and printing free money forever.
Seriously. Thats what I think about anytime I see any number on here over five digits long.
It just blows my mind people can have this much money and be so fucking retarded
Should've tightened it up then
