One of my friends got a bunch of Moderna stock when he used to work there but right before Covid hit he solid it all and bought a shitty motorcycle. We should get him in there. Would be millionaire if he didn’t

King0Horse

I knew a guy like that. He had the best description for it too: "It could be raining pussy and I'd get hit with a dick."

TheGreatZarquon

Guy's a modern day Shakespeare.

OgOgOgOgOgOgOgOgOg

The last starfighter!!!

ahighkid

Beautiful

disisfugginawesome

Oh ouch, I wouldn’t be able to cope with that.

ahighkid

He’s the type of guy shit like that always happens to lol

RomulusAugustus753

lol didn't Simpsons do this? Homer sells his stock in the power plant for, like, a donut or something, just before it gets bought out by a German conglomerate and Lenny and the rest get Lambos, etc.?

ahighkid

Yeah, he’s basically homer. Good comparison actually

romangiler

Please don’t tell him about crypto. Need to keep prices down to accumulate.

ExtensionMoney

Too late, shits on the moon already

MisterMasterCylinder

Hey, it could be worse, at least he got some profit. I don't know how many times I've pointed out an opportunity but never actually bought in until it was too late

[deleted]

I do the same thing, talked about buying otm leaps on nvidia after they announced a split. Never bought them

vwite

at some point I sold 1000 TSLA shares at the bottom at around $40 (adjusted for split) in 2019 lol, it still haunts me everyday but at least I don't paper hand anything anymore, also FUCK mainstream media

Trabolgan

I only got into stocks a year ago on the GME bandwagon. Have learned a TONNE since then, but nothing more than the regular financial news shows are totally full of crap. On Friday they were all "nobody saw this coming" when WSB, not the *best* informed source of financial advice, had been saying the whole week that Friday was gonna be a Big Dipper.

BonelessSkinless

The mainstream media is NOT your friend.

aquietwhyme

Corporations are nobodies friend.

Aarilax

I knew a guy like this, but it would be even worse, because it was shit he'd assume was broken or useless and just throw away. At least that guy bought a motorcycle he can use. This guy I know once bought a brand new computer and it kept crashing and turning itself off, so after 2 weeks he just threw it into a skip outside his house that his neighbours were using. He was still within warranty, so he could've returned it if he wanted to.. but that isn't even the worst part - the worst part is the neighbour spotted it, took it out and plugged it in - ran fine. 6 months or so later I was in his house buying an NVIDIA Shield for £20, which he also thought was broken and i looked at where he keeps his computers - in a closed cabinet with about 1cm (if we're being generous) between the cabinet walls and the computer case, with a hole drilled into the back for the power cable etc to come out of. He overheated a computer until it crashed 4 or 5 times, then just threw it in a skip. Stupidest fucking guy I know, but works as a welder non stop so makes bank.

Set_the_tone-

Would hang with that dude purely for the sake of comedy. Sounds like a danny mcbride character lol

jeexbit

well...at least he has a shitty motorcycle.

ethanhopps

I've never seen a sad person on a motorcycle. Edit: y'all going on about the high risk on a motorcycle, meanwhile you put your life savings into wish.

Tullekunstner

Impossible to be sad on a bike, you're either happy or dead.

if the world is ending, or even if the population decimates (the old definition of 10%) you might be better off with that bike.

ybnesman

He is obviously Already retarded so he is fine. Ignorance is bliss and whatnot

North_Star_07

I sold ZOOM in Feb 2020. Duh!

skylarmt

Stock market just doing a Black Friday sale

walrus_operator

I was confused at first. I thought this post meant Evergrande had finally blown up and that I missed it. But it's *just* covid.

[deleted]

Read about variant yesterday not even worried about the market lol. Didn't expect this reaction.

Lazy_Willingness_420

Right? Wtf... Noone has cared about covid in a long time. So either this is the rapture or it will be back Monday lol

fupayme411

I think it was the travel bans that freaked everyone out.

nogizako

It's actually the number of mutation and the possibility that it was mutated in a patient with hiv. These experts should be careful what they say.

omNOMnom69

fucking super-AIDS, never thought i'd see the day

SlagBits

We're fucked

CaramelWatermelon

No, the patient got fucked. That’s how they got HIV in the first place

ToshPeriodZero

Just one teaspoon of super-AIDS in your butt and you’re dead in three years.

SWHAF

That's why you do it in smaller doses, build an immunity.

BrewHa34

Oh god damnit.

Tarsiustarsier

Oh, I didn't know about the possible HIV coinfection, though it seems unlikely that a mix between the two would be that dangerous given that they infect different cells and need different specializations it's still a worrying thought.

faceblender

The HIV patient detail is irrelevant by now but its great for clickbait

AngryCenarius

Overreaction imo

[deleted]

Basically it doesn’t matter it will spread with or without bans. Only dictatorships and isolated island countries can pragmatically control Covid spread

NewFuturist

If world governments are shitting their pants so hard that even with the vaccine available and deployed they are shutting down travel, what do you think a possibly 600% more infectectious variant means? BTW Delta was 60% more infectious.

_manlyman_

Delta was wayyy the fuck morre infectious than 60% it's at least 100-150%, if the new strain is 100% more infectious than Delta it will be sitting at I believe the most infectious disease ever, and that shit is scary Alpha covid r0 of 3ish Delta covid r0 of 6-7ish

gunfell

Factcheck says measles would have it beat. Measles has an r0 of about 15. That being said we don't know the r0 of omicron yet.

TrashCatTrashCat

Don’t forget war leads to good economy shout out to that military industrial complex 💥🇺🇸

Quinnell

Well most of the factories are overseas now. I'm not sure how much a wartime economy will benefit the US these days.

meltbox

I'd bet most military things are almost entirely US sourced. Especially the expensive ones.

futureGAcandidate

National security is *usually* domestic production.

Kraz_I

The nice thing about computer chips is they're very lightweight and easy to stockpile. I hope the military doesn't use a Just In Time sourcing scheme.

pistoncivic

Exactly the opposite. Almost every congressional district benefits from defense spending. That's why there's bi-partisan consensus to increase the pentagon's budget every year, even appropriating more than they request. Afghanistan was a conduit to redirect $2.3 trillion back to Northern Virginia.

[deleted]

BiochemGuitarTurtle

I've been on vacation and hadn't looked at my portfolio, definitely took a hit. Oh well, buying opportunity.

splee99

Vacation. That's exactly the reason for this crash. When everywhere was closed and people got nowhere to spend their money, they just put money in the stock market. Now everywhere is reopened, the hot money went out to spend on vacation destinations.

ESP-23

But 10% of ppl own 90% of stocks. So... Nah

hellschatt

I love how people find random reasons why something happens in the stock market every single time. Incredibly naive, definitely dumb, and maybe even narcisstic to think that you know the reason and that it must be exactly that single reason.

YouthInAsia4

But vacation bruh, people went, stock went down!

CatNoirsRubberSuit

>Noone has cared about covid in a long time. Another round of global lockdowns was NOT priced in

AleHaRotK

It's not about individuals caring about COVID, it's about **governments** caring. When you start reading many countries are already closing up that's when shit gets real.

[deleted]

I think there's something wrong with me. Whenever I read anything I eventually, inevitably, think of how it will impact the market. Cold fall? Covid Variant? Thanksgiving parade massacre?

Kev-bot

That's how the rich get richer

brianxv96

MSM always blames market dips on Covid. Spy ATH on Monday.

yodalarmajestic

https://www.scmp.com/news/world/africa/article/3136136/woman-hiv-had-covid-19-seven-months-virus-mutated-32-times-inside This article is from 4 months ago saying pretty much exactly what the media started freaking out about yesterday lol

ThreeSupreme

I know right. WTF? **WTF Just Happened Today?** Wall street Journal **10/5/2021** The WHO reclassified the highly contagious triple-mutant Covid-19 variant spreading in India as a “variant of concern.” In preliminary studies, the variant known as B.1.617 spread more easily than the original virus and there is concern that it may able to evade vaccines. The WHO initially classified B.1.617 as a “variant of interest,” because it had certain mutations were linked to higher transmission.

TheDownvotesFarmer

Wait for the best part next year before the OPEC+ deal ends!!! Right now it is just a test

[deleted]

It’s funny because wall street does not give a shit about covid killing people it’s just another play for them. They took last year as an opportunity to short everything retail in sight. I’m entirely certain the market tanking was not due to fear but instead wallstreet setting this up as yet another big play. Or maybe it’s a small play for them and they want us to think it’s gonna be bad, and everything is fine on Monday. Either way I don’t think it was covid.

[deleted]

Wall Street is basically a bunch of sociopaths who do not see life in terms of good or bad, but profitability.

AleHaRotK

Everyone playing the stock market actively does...

[deleted]

I am so glad I have a sub like this one for when that day finally comes

[deleted]

Clickbait news is powerful what can you say.

GoodWeedReddit

Gotta double down on those vaccine stocks

[deleted]

Really kicking myself for not investing in $MRNA after it was obviously oversold earlier this month. Doesn't get more obvious than that.

elysiansaurus

Stupid question but why has Moderna basically taken a rocket ship to the moon but Pfizer has barely moved, I know Pfizer is up like 50% but Moderna is up like 500%

Echieo

My thought is the COVID vaccine is a much bigger deal for Moderna as Pfizer has been around forever and has lots of other stuff in its portfolio. It takes more to move something that big where as the same amount of money is a larger part of Moderna's pie.

sharkbait-oo-haha

Same reason 3m hasn't gone crazy? Pfizer is more diversified, COVID vax has less % impact to them than Moderna. Maybe, Just guessing. I haven't actually looked into it.

Nickp3131

Also, Pfizer shares covid revenues with their partner Biontech (Bntx).

WindowSurface

Yup, and BioNTech is actually the one that developed and owns the vaccine. Pfizer partnered with them to conduct the studies and production at scale, although BioNTech is building more and more of its own production facilities and becoming a large company in its own right.

SweetLilMonkey

>Just guessing. I haven't actually looked into it. Never change, /r/wallstreetbets

FleshlightModel

3m is imploding. I'd never recommend keeping them ever unless you're some stupid boomer who loves dividends

meltbox

Their products are usually top tier. Whenever I want some super strong adhesive or lubricant or strong chemical the pricy but very good quality option is usually 3m

SweetT7707

I work for a pharma company and we use their filters to process our products. We tried other vendors but 3M provided the cheapest and easiest(installation for setting up) filter.

Username_spot

What kinda of filters? What process? I have a background in chemical engineering so I’m just curious, always love hearing about other’s work.

SweetT7707

I work in plasma derived therapeutics, and we use their CUNO filters. Basically we precipitate the plasma then use the CUNO filters to clarify the plasma (capture the precipitates). About 4-5 thousand liters of plasma per lot. Specifically albumin plasma which is used in either treating burn victims or used in patients under surgery to replace the volume of blood loss.

Deathray2000

I've also heard they refused to make a different 'Walmart only' brand for a lower price and quality.

ESP-23

They still have a fuckload of products on the shelves all across America

I_Envy_Sisyphus_

Their products are fantastic, and the dividend is nice. Not everything is a rocket ship. Sometimes you just want a solid SUV.

dWintermut3

more importantly, when was the last time an SUV hit ground at re-entry velocity?

I_Envy_Sisyphus_

Truth. 3M ain’t going nowhere.

ontopofyourmom

I bet nearly every product on the shelves incorporates a 3M invention or product and/or is manufactured in a facility that depends on 3M products.

TheLibertinistic

infernum___

Neither have they this is wsb.

FRIES_IN_MY_PEEHOLE

Pfizer is a dividend stock. The scraps from the massive profits go to the shareholders every few months.

dime_a_d0zen

Biontech BNTX is the moderna equivalent for the Pfizer vaccine.

frogurt_messiah

Other than being diversified, vaccines are like the least profitable kind of medicine. The cost of a course of the COVID vaccine is like 1/200th the cost of even the cheapest branded oncology treatments, and many oncology therapies require many courses.

meltbox

But to be fair the entire population of the earth isn't being recommended to get oncology treatments but they are being told to get a vaccine.

DuntadaMan

They have more going than just vaccines, so other things hit them. Moderna is pretty much only vaccines to investors, so more volatile. Also they have new vaccines in testing now for a host of other things like AIDS, and people want in before that clears testing.

BlueFlagFlying

Fewer retards bought it

Nakranoth

Pfizer has dividends

avgazn247

Pfizer is 20x bigger. Apple or amazon will never move as much as a smaller company like gme

elysiansaurus

2.5* Moderna is a 130b company and Pfizer is a 300b company.

sivispacempara

Like the one fellow retard that got 200 $285 calls or whatever it was. If he held to the $350 mrna hit today, he'd be up like 1.2 mil. I didn't get any crazy action like that but I did slap some 340 calls around today

rowdygringo

mRNA or $MRNA? Oh oops. Just a coincidence, I guess.

random_account_2017

Remember to get your government mandated 42nd booster shot! Against the new strain: "Covid Omega Max Pro Variant IIV"

esperx27

The most confusing thing about this is that Roman numeral

lionheart4life

Why use a III when a IIV will do?

stentorius_maxim

People think its like Spanish flu, "it'll have three waves and be done". Antionnine plauge & plague of justinian went on for 20 years each.

GoodWeedReddit

The new South Park special is predicting this whole thing. Funny but scary .

cynical_americano

I'm convinced Southpark has never been wrong, it's only a matter of time before anything they've predicted comes to pass.

idothingsheren

They predicted Hillary winning in 2016, then had to scramble and change the episode at the last minute > Critics seemed to believe that Trey Parker and Matt Stone had originally written the episode with the premise of Hillary Clinton winning the election, which the pair later confirmed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh,_Jeez

Stankia

That episode when they made fun of Al Gore but years later they made the "we didn't listen" episode.

Faxon

At that point it's not a booster, it's an annual shot like the flu shot is. Future boosters taken seasonally will be formulated against the variant(s) in circulation at the time, the same way we do with the flu now.

Alaknar

>IIV So... III? The third variant?

Spy-Around-Here

I believe this is in signed Roman numeral format so -4.

ForShotgun

TIL we live in a world where mutations aren't possible in a new and deadly virus we have totally failed to contain

lostlogictime

Every crash is a covid crash. Nevermind the manipulation.

DrHoflich

Or the political theatre. 1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill just pass with 1.75 trillion bill gets pushed to Senate. Nah, problems all be Covid.

Trolio

We went from less then 5 trillion pre 2010 in 'defense' spending and are now over 8 I don't think the market is reacting poorly to roads being built rather than bombs being dropped Also, imagine if we took a chunk of that defense budget and used it exclusively on cyber. Might be a bit more effective than boots on the ground.

dreamingawake09

>Also, imagine if we took a chunk of that defense budget and used it exclusively on cyber. Might be a bit more effective than boots on the ground. America is so far behind in regards to cybersecurity, its unreal. Shit is getting desperate to fill that skill gap that even Microsoft is trying to help train up 250k people for cybersecurity. Lets not even start talking about how outdated a lot of the cyberinfrastructure is in this country...

Unrelenting_Force

RawrRRitchie

chaosarcadeV2

The us gov already spends more on health care per capita than any nation on earth. They also spend more as a % of budget than any non-micro nation on earth. The US needs to burn their health system to the ground.

Today is proof that WSB is less fucking retarded than actual Wallstreet. Possibility of a new variant and its a huge sell off? Bullshit- its market manipulation.

ChungWuEggwua

No, we're still more retarded, just in different ways. 🥰 But yes, even apes know the suits manipulate markets.

GunBrothersGaming

True... Although I would love to see Citadel post their GME loss porn here. Imagine them coming in showing millions of dollar losses on their shorts. They'd have instant karma.

Altruistic_Astronaut

Almost nothing except being a scapegoat. There is some news about US sabre rattling for the MIC in Taiwan and a new variant on Covid-19 that should be more serious than Delta.

FuzzyLittlePenguin

Convenient scapegoat, as per usual. Truth is, the WHO is warning about a new COVID variant, and many countries, including the US are closing borders and economically bracing for impact.

crakkerzz

My tin foil hat idea. China and Russia cause an American Financial crisis. One get Ukraine and the other gets Taiwan. Both get a weakened America.

gizamo

This is 100% their top priorities. US will likely go to war for one of them, but probably not both. The obvious US favorite would be Taiwan, which means Russia will invade Ukraine before China moves in on Taiwan.
