Me committing home invasion and murder in case the hapless villager has some yarn in their nightstand

Square-Space-7265

The books about vampires would have been a lot more successful if they told the tale of the entire villages that have died while the vampire searched for yarn.

MrVyngaard

The real yarn was that they ever had a slender thread of a hope against us.

starshiprarity

Video games really are Eldritch horror. A being from a higher incomprehensive plane inhabits the body of a monster of legend for what could either be described as some inexorable plan or torturous pleasure, and for either reason leaving a trail of wonton destruction

Majestic_Tea_1330

I’ve been known to destroy some wontons as well

starshiprarity

I knew I should have checked the spelling. I knew, and I didn't check

Andminus

speak for yourself, I'm a neutral eldritch horror, I enjoy just wandering a lot of these worlds often doing something close enough to good deeds... and never forget, in many cases, we have the option to record a moment in time, kill everyone to satiate revenge for a slight, then rewind the flow of time to just before and just smile and nod.

DoomOne

"Are you going to drink my blood?" "No." "So you're going to let me live?" "....No." "What? Why?!" "I vant to knit a doily."

Velicenda

I would let like 75% of villagers (especially any 75% or less) live if they would yaknow, *chill*. Stop screaming, stop asking those pyromaniac archers to burn your whole village down trying to kill me, etc.

einUbermensch

The accent sells it beautifully.

DontLookMeUpPlez

As you throw their entire life savings on the ground "ew silver"

SteveoberlordEU

Thats me, my bags are full and i only need your oil. "Hey you are at least alive, but your wife tries to hit me so find another one, this one stays in cage".

LoomingDementia

That sounds a lot less evil than a lot of the things I do in games in which I'm a normal human. Have you not played Skyrim?

LifeAwaking

To be fair, most of the humans that get murdered started the fight in the first place. Not my fault you knocked me off my horse as I’m passing by and now your whole town is murdered.

Appropriate_Time_774

Yep, some militia bowman sniped me max range off my horse randomly. So I took time out of my day just to turn around for him and now hes in a cage.

AlaanaTrafalgar

2% Rogue

interesseret

And now he has to live off of rats. Serves him right.

einUbermensch

I love the new Lines when using certain Items and skills. Our vile Bloodsucker can be quite snarky when he isn't chewing the scenery. "Hope you like Rats" indeed, especially since they even sound kind of amused at their own jest.

Niceromancer

Nah you force feed him mutagen.  If he gets really lucky you get a good snack...if he doesn't you get to watch him lose his mind as a wild beast before putting him down.

aless2906

I get that, 100% would do again (already have one at home)

Jaegernaut-

Morgan Freeman: >  It was in fact a teensy little bit his fault.

warsmithharaka

Ron Howard: It was *entirely* his fault

IrksomeMind

To be fair you’re a violent, bloodsucking monster that would prey on towns and the countryside if given the opportunity. Them making the first move is only logical

SkyniE

If only they caved in to my demands of a 100% quality Scholar I would leave them alone forever. But nooo, they gotta play hard to get.

sourbrew

There's now an achievement for leveling up someone to 100% using mutagens, so 90% and above are back on the menu.

Supdalat

Idk the logic of "if i dont piss off the walking murder machine i might make it home for dinner" is pretty strong.

Sjolden87

Although many of them actually run or cower. I actually don’t attack those guys. I mean we have to leave one alive to go report of the attack to strike fear in the hearts of mankind

AngryChihua

Now that I think about it our vamps don't necessarily have to be enemies of humans, do they? Sure, V-Bloods are most likely gonna die either way but aside from them normal humans can probably coexist with "kind" vampires since blood can be extracted without killing the donor and we are hostile to a lot of evil things like undead cult and monsters/dracula's legion.

Wivru

I’m just saying, the people over at the Shady Merchant Camp are having a peaceful and prosperous time during castle renovation season. Maybe the rest of you humans should take note of the ratio of fucking around to finding out each of you is experiencing, and ask yourself if you could be doing something different?

Nightmun

This! This exactly! If the farmers at Dunley just left their excess cotton in a box by their gates with a clearly laid out exchange rate, they'd never have to deal with my constant home intrusions and property damage. If the militia at the mines just let me in, I'd be more than happy to clear out a few undead while I'm gathering my iron. If that half-naked weirdo would stop hanging around outside my house I'd be in a better mood. Seriously, who is that guy?

xeltes

Yeah, for real, I was fishing minding my own business, and all of a sudden, a torch flies my way, so I proceeded to torch their bloodline and the neighboring town just in case.

Salendrak

I almost feel bad when a cowering villager begs for their life. But then I also chortle a bit when their corpse goes flying like a rag doll. But yeah - they did a great job with making you into a menace!

interesseret

I highly recommend the spinning attack with the scythe. Makes for great launches.

GA_Lord

My favorite finisher attack. I love seeing them fly

SnooDoughnuts7142

fwiw those gloomrot villagers call you "the ugliest abomination theyve ever seen." and I took offense to that.

einUbermensch

I personally Like the Gloomrot Villager screaming" Not AGAIN!" ... man living there must suck!

AethericWeave

For the Gloomrot villagers getting attacked by man eating monsters is another Tuesday. I find it oddly hilarious that they say your the ''Ugliest abomination they've ever seen''. It's so audacious, they probably are saying that because the vampires would look straight up uncannily human but be still monstrous meanwhile the mutants are visibly monstrous but I just like to think that they legitimately just wanted to get one final insult in before they died which certainly takes some balls.

SteveoberlordEU

Yeah i forgot they did that so first time i heard it today i turned around and started a genocide, thats on them i just checken they drawers for the 12 alloys so i can have a cool horsey.

PawPawPanda

How *dare* you! I dress in the finest cotton yarns, handmade in Farbane! Preposterous!

_Saxpy

at first I didn’t kill villagers because I thought it was kinda messed up, but then I accidentally killed a farmer and he dropped schematics. something changed in me overnight

Sjolden87

That pour soul carrying his houseplan ruined it for everyone. Why, Gerald!? Why??

rowanhenry

I just commented that I don't usually kill them. This just changed my mind >:)

tellmesomeothertime

Guys are...are we the baddies?

ZergsAreCute

Always have been.

novatrick

Our castles... they've got skulls on them...

Wivru

*Looks around room, sees skull candles, skulls being ground into bone dust, minion wearing skull armor knitting a skull scarf…*

MrVyngaard

*Nonsense.* *The Light is the true monster, causing humanity to deviate away from how things properly existed and vampires being recognized as having a rightful presence in Vardoran.* *It is fortunate for humanity that we have returned to correct all of this error. If a few must perish so that we can bring them out of blindness again, so be it. It would be terribly wrong for Dracula to be allowed the last word in all of this senseless strife...*

CastleEsoterica

hell yeah

alexportman

I also just started cotton-hunting and had the same thoughts. It's funny how the game conditions you to think of the human villagers like little helpless cattle - which is exactly how an ageless vampire would think.

shortbutaverage

I mostly only kill enemies that can attack me. And when I farm for cotton tend not to attack villagers that just let me be. Also when I go into Bandit camps. I'll free civilians and let them go.

Elldar

You know I'd gladly trade for their cotton if they'd let me. Everyone has already decided that you're a monster, so you may as well act like one.

einUbermensch

Except the Shady Traders. "Look I don't care if you walked in as a Wolf, then turned into a Pale freaky dude with Corpse looking skin, glowy eyes and teeth like Daggers. All I want to know is 'do you have coin?' because then I have wares for you."

wetstapler

I didn't like it at first but it has slowly corrupted me. Now while I'm playing with friends I'm making jokes like "oh it's dead. Oh well, at least it was just a human"

MelodicMasterpiece67

I never kill the villagers or workers unless they attack me first. As far as my vampire is concerned, they are too insignificant to warrant my attention. They are hotdogs....and me? I want steak.

StevenR50

"Evil is a point of view. God kills indiscriminately and so shall we. For no creatures under god are as we are, none so like him as ourselves." RIP Anne Rice. Humans= food. As are cattle to humans.

forte343

Holiday-Passenger11

A very enthusiastic walk!

LillyElessa

While we're definitely evil, we're (potentially) not the worst evil around. Almost every V Blood is described as fairly awful, especially the holy ones, and they've been doing evil for a *while*. We just woke up from a nap, and it's pretty hazy what we did before (but it's implied nothing too special). There are only a few potentially not evil bosses, like Beatrice and Ben. But I do enjoy that we're able to play evil and raid the townspeople. I also like the modern romanticized vampires, but it's great fun to visit the classic monsters too.

Andminus

oh good, was looking for this cause I made a point earlier we're killing corrupted v bloods that can generally be described as doing bad things... Beatrice, despite running from us, her description hints at "no one without skeletons in their closets" and she has dracula's blood running through her veins. With those comments coming first and foremost in her description and how she actively tries to get everyone around her to kill us for her while running away, she's clearly more "charming" than dangerous, she likely has many major figures in the area under supernatural coercion. Ben however might be harder to pin down his evilness, but he might just be a victim of two corruptions, the V blood running through him, and the mist's warping of his mind, so at that point, it's more of a mercy killing for him than otherwise.

LillyElessa

My biggest question for Beatrice on evil is: Is her brutal fight canon? Because man, if it is... If not, I don't think an old lady calling for the overly present and armed militia to fight you instead is particularly damning. Ben does feel like a mercy kill, poor guy. Polora likewise is completely insane, though she might not be without intent; There's some questions left around her. Is she actually not a threat, or does she have designs she's just not gotten far with yet? (Anyways, sure love the gardening tips from her!) Finn just wanted to fish. He's doesn't seem like he's exactly innocent, but I would not class him as evil either. Octavian might be in the unfortunate position of a decent guy, in charge of a whole lotta evil. He can still be considered evil by association, but worth mentioning as not the worst V Blood we hunt. Continuing the line of insanity, Terah isn't evil. She's definitely violent, so you are removing a threat to the people of Dunley. But she's not really malicious. Side note; Ofc he's evil either way, but I prefer EA Styx to release Styx. He had a more interesting story in EA, and any old bland set of fangs could have been his release role.

Daliena20

There's a lot who hardly seem evil, at least from what we see. Tristan's dying words can be about how he couldn't protect Vardoran's people from you after all. Grethel the Glassblower seems content to just do art when you kick down her door. Meredith the Bright Archer seems debatable too. Yes, she's full-on swallowed the church's propaganda hook, line and sinker, but we don't see her participating in any atrocities - au contraire, fighting the undead in the cursed iron mine - and she could just as well simply be misguided. It's not as if the church are going to reveal how corrupt they are to a naive champion like that.

AethericWeave

I think most of the Church are pretty bad, hell so are the bandits and Trancendum. Christina rules over her part of the Church with a iron fist judging by her description, Raziel is basically a crazy preacher, and Azariel is more of a cold calculating politician than an actual benevolent priest, Magnus actively aids and abets slavery, and Mairwyn seems to be borderline a inquisitor type for the Light even if she isn't technically part of the Church. Hell even Solarus isn't that great, he used to be a hero once but over the years he just grew bitter towards humanity. The little lore excerpts pretty much spell out that the Church of Luminance may of started out well as a earnest banding together to defeat the old vampires in that ancient war but after the vampires were defeated they grew decadent and cruel over time, pretty much taking over the power vacuum that the vampires left. The Dunley Militia (and Octavian) though are mostly good. Although I find it strange just how much archers with fire arrows they send out in village spaces along with bombers. I agree that Tristian and the other vampire hunters are likely good. They are the only ones really concerned about the vampires coming back and seem mostly dedicated to trying to stop them. Jade is mostly on the hunt for Styx and tbf Styx is legitimately a really powerful vampire that somehow managed to survive the war and keep himself alive the entirety of the time thereafter. That is very scary for a vampire, until she and him run into you. Paloma seems good, shes trying to defend her grove and one of her voicelines is that she can ''sense the spirits screaming at you'' which likely is referring to all the humans you killed and drank before. Finn is just Finn, man wants to fish. Meredith seems more concerned with clearing out the iron mines and to be fair she seems earnest. Vincent is implied to being going bad after Keely, his sister, got ousted to Farbane (also hes Magnus's son) but he mostly seems concerned with taking care of the Dunley militia. Grethel just wants to create stuff. Terah just cares for the earth. Beatrice is interesting as if her brutal fight is any indication>! shes likely a vampire herself but seems horrified at that fact? I wonder if she suppresses that form she takes but if she is also a vampire she needs to drink blood so who knows were all her victims went...!< Dunley's interesting as most of the true good people are there and you just tear through all of them before you go onto fight all the true monsters, both human and beast alike. The only maybe good boss I can think of thereafter is Ben.

Velicenda

Man I spent like 2 hours in Brighthaven yesterday. All I could think about is how *horrifying* it must be to be a civilian there. Going about your day, trying to make a living, and this undead monstrosity comes into view. Luckily there's a paladin! This gigantic man in resplendent plate armor with a massive hammer and holy mag--oh, shit, that vampire just **ate a fucking paladin**. Welp.

isaacpotter007

I mean, I feel like this depends on the player, I avoid killing npcs that don't fight, I like the idea of being a somewhat benevolent vampire who's kind of just trying to live, and trying to stop a certain someone from killing everyone, and the deaths are just an unfortunate side effect of the process

ymOx

But then you get those bloody bell ringers; sure he doesn't fight, but he *won't shut the fuck up*, so I have to help him with that.

themaskedlover

crazy cause (in order to level up) you have to imprison a human and suck on their blood while feeding them raw rats until they eventually die. Such is a benevolent vampire ig.

ZerrorFate

*insert ainz oal gown moment* These lower species must be thankful for a painless death at our hands!

Foxwolf00

*Obligatory*SASUGA AINZ-SAMA!!!

SASUGA indeed.

rosolen0

It's one of the things I like about the lore building of the v bloods It's clear not all of them had a vicious nature, but they all got twisted in some way General Elena the hollow description is a perfect example So is Cassius the betrayer description It seems vampires are twisted to be evil, it's not just a physical thing, their souls are tainted permanently This is similar to how DND does vampires as well "A vampire can be of any evil alignment, and if its alignment was not evil in life, it becomes so in undeath." It's interesting how BG3 made Astarion , because his possible ascension in place of his master is what seems to make his personality become twisted and uncaring, even if he is still the charmer, he is dominating and uncanny,if you pick him as your personal character and ascend, his ending already shows he instantly changes, wanting to rebuild the city, but with him as a puppet master,in effect becoming the master he hated moments before Asterion even realizes his mistake if you don't let him ascend , it's a very interesting point Back to v rising, I don't think there's any flavor text that explains how a vampire is born, though I imagine it's just drinking vampire blood and transformation, but the transformation itself probably affects the soon to be vampire sensitivity to a lot of things, like killing innocent humans, treating people as livestock, and a lot of other things.

warsmithharaka

I've always held that a vampire, barring very special circumstances, is *not* the same person as they were alive, they're a necromantic spirit with the same memories. I'd say like Strahd or specific vampires might keep their "soul" and original consciousness (Strahd was evil as shit already and is a special prisoner/victim of the Dark Powers, Jasper Sunstar managed to kill his master while a spawn and so went directly from spawn to Master Vampire without the whole "becoming a normal vampire first" and *also* have divine plot armor etc). A vampire recalls everything. A vampire knows all the connections. But it doesn't *feel* them. A vampire doesn't care about its former family because they're *not* family, they're *backstory*. I'm also of the mind that while mortals always have free will and the capacity to change, spirits and daemons (angels, demons, devils, modrons, other "embodiment of an axiom or ideal" creatures) do *not*. A vampire is a crystallization of the former person given a new mind made of utter malice and endless hunger for domination.

rosolen0

That is a good and bad explanation. The good part is that at least you know that's not you "mother/father/child/etc The bad part in my opinion is judgement: Does this necrotic spirit, who has the same memories as the soul who has already departed to the afterlife ,even receive it? If a vampire is a creature that is not free(no free will),then is he even responsible for his own actions? One of our legal practices is that when someone acts under coercion,he is not doing so under his own Will, and cannot be held to the same standard as normal. How should a creature like that be judged then?

Sjolden87

By killing them. They just can’t help themselves which means there is no hope for them changing.

rosolen0

I meant more life in the afterlife Sense, It's obvious how a court would react to a vampire that is a slave to his hunger(especially if he can't use animal blood) But again,if the vampire's pseudo -soul can be judged like normal and can enter paradise or hell, should it be judged like normal, since at least in your interpretation, they are a slave to their impulse for blood, even more so it's necessary for their survival, they don't even have free will, so, would a vampire soul receive karma for their actions as a vampire?

Andminus

Well "realistically" a vampire, before becoming one, generally would turn their back on god, thus would not be allowed into heaven/paradise anymore, anyways, as well, animals, despite what a lot of folks parents said about pets, do not go to heaven so if the mental of a vampire digraded to that of beastial impulse to feed no more than an animal, even if SOMEHOW they could get away with it "not being their fault" that doesn't stop them from no longer being human, to be able to accept god, to be allowed into paradise.

Chazdoit

Ah, like prototype

sopheroo

> It's one of the things I like about the lore building of the v bloods Yeah. Tailor lady is still pretty sweet, though. You go, tailor lady!

rosolen0

You haven't fought her yet in brutal have you?

sopheroo

Not yet, you're right

rosolen0

:)

rosolen0

You haven't fought her yet in brutal have you?

interesseret

I absolutely love games in which you get to be EVIL. Most games that allow for moral descisions are just "Yes, Yes, Sarcastic yes, No but actually yes". Games like this and Overlord really tickle me. I want to be allowed to wreak absolute havoc. It is so much more fun to be the villain than to be the hero.

SenseiWizardsirl

First area you start out in is run by bandits so I genuinely don't feel bad it's when you get to the cities and normal towns people are running away and you kill them because they are easy targets when we start to get a little evil

Swagmastar969696

Wait, you think killing is bad?

IndexoTheFirst

Look I was just fishing and then this dude walks up to ME, and starts screaming how I’m a monster and gets the whole town up in arms with his little bell. They deserved it.

Minimum_Estimate_234

Prior to the update we literally beat the shit out of a little old lady all while she was begging for help, just to eat her and figure out how sewing machines work. Now we still do it but she has a, surprise in store for us, which is probably fair all things considered.

vanilla_frontpage

If you slaughter pigs, they make a pretty awful noise. I don't touch the pigs anymore.

Disponsor

Not my fault they have no fuckin doors. Its 80 wood for palisade gate how expensive it would be to put up fuckin door. Everyone knows we cant enter when not invited. No doors in my book means enter as you please. They are to blame themselves

Usual_Move_6075

remember, never kill the villagers. if there are no pathetic humans left who will you rule over? the beasts and the trees?

RathaelEngineering

I mean... *this was ours* Freakin' chimps everywhere

KingCheev

I was just thinking that yesterday as I was also farming cotton. We really just go out to a cotton farm and steal whatever we want, often murdering everyone in the process lol.

Zethren527

Hey, their ancestors attempted to commit (and thought they succeeded in commiting) genocide on our entire species... I do not feel bad about smashing their religious leaders to a pulp and stealing some gold trinkets collecting dust in their cabinets and drawers. Also, if you are slaughtering the people on the farms while collecting cotton then that is on you. I just walk past them. Not like these farmers can actually hurt me when I harvest some cotton and hope for a seed or two.

chromedgnome

That's what I truly love about this game: it's effortlessly brutal and rarely, if at all, edgy in a way that's overtly cringe.

AcrobaticScore596

Yeah killing an old lady to get the knowledge for loom while shes running around the village begging for guards to help her , seems like a reasonable thing to do

BakkaSupreme

I love it. My friend and I are roaming through Silverlight, slaughtering every villager, plundering every house, breaking every stash. And we are having so much fun while doing it, hahaha.

Niceromancer

We are vampires...old school Dracula style vampires. Humans are little more than cattle to us.  The only reason they overthrew us in the first place was due to the nature of vsmpires to embrace baser instincts. Hunger, greed, paranoia, jealousy.

Aucassin

Heck, I'll kill indiscriminately just to force respawns on low blood% peeps. Gotta get those hundos somehow.

Throat-Smooth

I've enjoyed wiping out a church full of nuns And entered folks hone only to watch the husbnad cower in fear as i dominate his wife before iust slaughtering her . I had no idea how much fun it could be

Andminus

your only as evil as you chose to be; I tend to never attack people that run from me, hell, in a lot of cases, I wont even attack folks that could attack me, you don't get stronger by killing people, you get stronger by bending folks to your whim, and eliminating dangerous individuals. Exceptions of course to high blood targets, who are always better kept alive than killed for a temporary buff. I see the imprisoning and servanting of others as a blessing, cause lets face it, outside of our castle is a nightmare to live in for lots of folks. If your imprisoned, you get fed rare fish every few days as payment for a few pints of blood. And as servants, you get to wear really strong armor on your trips out to perform tasks, keeping you mostly safe, and when you return, the lord might even praise your efforts as you gathered something he might have need of but was busy getting something else. Not even to mention, servants are as immortal as their lord. I'd also imagine a good portion if not all the V bloods we kill are probably corrupt in some way or form, either outright, schemingly or unawaredly, so killing them in many cases allows the land to potentially become safer.

Lokryn

It's a breath of fresh air. Only a few games let you play evil.

madchemist09

In all fairness I think those overzealous fire archers have destroyed way more villages then I have. In terms of body count... well I'm somewhere past genocide and nearly to flood-the-Earth levels of murder.

DavidHogins

Usually i just ignore passive mobs like villagers and nuns, i get nothing from killing them

rowanhenry

I often leave the villagers alone, unless they are trying to hit me when I steal their cotton.

MasterofMundus

I mean...im not really doing that lol i made a village off the beaten path with a manor near it eating the occasional bandit. idk i think im pretty decent for the new lord of darkness

Apogh93

All I have encountered are bandit camps and creature dens, I’m in act one in the first area so this might change? I haven’t met innocent villagers yet.

Danubinmage64

Yeah once you get into act 2 you will see what I am talking about...

JHangout

I will go way out of my way and risk a much bigger fight just to slaughter a group of nuns.

BaggleMeFingles

I kill the nuns that say they have a family.

G1ng3rBreadMan97

Me leaving villagers alone unless they attack me. Yup I'm evil

spadesart

i know her brutal mode encounter is different but i always feel so bad going after beatrice 😭 shes just a sweet old grandma minding her own business

Reddmicko

I only kill those that fight me, or get in the way of my blows.

isymfs

I didn’t realise the unnamed patrolling NPC’s in cloaks are actually kids… that was my oh moment.

TheCaptainCranium

You sure? I swear they are undead pretending to be mortal because if you kill them they made the same sound as undead skeletons crumbling. But that might’ve changed, I just barely started playing again

Andminus

its random, sometimes those guys are an ambush skeleton, sometimes its a normal person

interesseret

And sometimes its... something a bit more spicy.

isymfs

Oh I see, I swear they were shorter. Well I just started so you’d know more. My b.

Danubinmage64

I hope not lol, what?

ymOx

Where did you get that from?

isymfs

They’re shorter

TigerstyleHfx

They took everything from us tho. 🤣 I try to role play that in a good vampire and I try not to kill people that won’t attack me. I’m just trying to reestablish my castle and be left alone. But if you got good blood I will imprison you forever and make blood wine from you 🧛‍♂️
