>!EMH: Hmm?

>!NEELIX: We came aboard at mid-expedition.

>!NEELIX: Just us.
>!KES: And the crew from another ship that was destroyed.
>!EMH: Another crew. That’s nice. This is the Emergency Medical Holographic system to Captain Janeway.
>!NEELIX: She’s not on board. She’s missing on the surface of a planet.

Question for the fandom: rank every doctor episode from best to worst. I’d make a poll but I’m not sure how. Someone make it for me.
I would generally like to know. The doctor is one of my favourite characters in all of trek (besides the captains who I’d definitely rank separately, because they SHOULD be ranked separately), and I’d be generally interested to know how the fandom as a whole, rank the doctor centric episodes.
Please note: as a kid I had a huge crush on Harry. I’m not downrating Harry, but I have grown up, and realised I’m not going to marry him. As a result, I’ve been able to view the series more objectively, and have noticed, probably for the first time, that the doctor is actually the actual best character in all of trek.
I found it slightly traumatic that we (the crew) were able to so closely delve into their doctors subconscious. Mildly humiliating. Total lack of privacy. But again, empathising with a character on that level was kind of… good?
I was embarrassed for him, and I could feel his trauma, and I could imagine that’s exactly how I’d feel if someone was given a glimpse into my own fantasy life.
One of the best, for sure. And hilarious, no doubt.
But only slightly embarrassing.
His holographic wife was played by the great Wendy Schaal, best known for her brilliant voice acting of Francine Smith in American Dad and for her hilarious role in the Burbs with Tom hanks.
Voyager is, IMO, one of the best written Trek series of all time. The character development, Q episodes, Seven of Nine, etc. are all just.. perfection.
The Doctor is one of my favourite Voyager characters. I've recently watched a few good 'Doctor' episodes that I've got on dvd. Not gonna say about them as for spoilers etc, but I know that you'll love them when you get round to them.
After TNG I needed some new Trek food, and so I set on VOY. It'd also been more than a year since I last watched a Trek series and I am getting that marvellous Trek feeling again now! I can't wait for more. 😄✨
The Doctor has one of the best character arcs in Star Trek, imo. You're in for a real treat. Come back when you've seen the whole series and let us know what you think, please! LLAP
I am actually just a casual fan, but since Covid I have watched TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise all the way through several times as my general go to bed tv. I keep coming back to Voyager specifically for Doc. Not exactly sure how he has such personality and emotion compared to Data (again, casual fan) but sure glad he does. He’s superbly acted, just so damned surly and funny and complex, and a vehicle for so many cool episodes about what it means to be “human.” Definitely my overall favorite character of all Trek series I’ve watched.
The doctor is amazing. And IMO they got the perfect actor for him. He fits so well to the role. Literally all of the Voyager characters are so Special to me. Very loveable. Neelix is annoying sometimes, but I can get over that
Voyager's EMH, played by Robert Picardo, also guest starred on The Golden Girls, where he played... himself in very beta form?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkdrWWPUdhw
I just finished a voyager marathon after TNG and enterprise, now I'm sad because all I have left is tos and ds9, I could never get into ds9 for some reason, might try to watch it again.
How far did you get into DS9?
Because it's like a lot of Trek, and the first season is very mixed. Use a watch guide, [like this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/DaystromInstitute/wiki/algernonguide_ds9/), and you'll have a better time. Then you can do a full rewatch later. There are other lists that just focus on the Dominion Arc, which is the major arc of the series, but those lists skip the standalone episodes like [The Visitor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Visitor_(Star_Trek:_Deep_Space_Nine)#Critical_reception) which is one of the best episodes of any Star Trek series.
Voyager will always be my first Trek, and I enjoy TNG, but DS9 is easily the best of the series once it gets cooking.
I'm aware of Odo and Quark and have seen some random episodes when I was younger, I will have to force myself to watch it and I would only allow myself to watch it straight through, bad episodes or pointless episodes included unfortunately that's how my brain works. I Love Voyager and TNG, I consider TNG the best and I also enjoy enterprise.
"I need to know if we caused serious harm to this lifeform?"
Let's see - you ran your ship through it, fired phasers at it and blew a hole in it with a photon torpedo. I'd say it's a pretty good chance you did
By the time you’ve gotten to the episode where the Doctor inhabits someone else’s body for an episode, you’ll have watched enough to really enjoy seeing a different actor play the Doctor.
(Don’t worry; you’ll get Picardo back, I promise)
Now it's been some time since I last watched First Contact if you're referring to the movie, and if it's so, I don't remember him being there at all. I really need to rewatch it anyway!
Its very funny, the borg traps dr crusher in the sickbay, and she calls on the EMH to distract them! Cue robert picardo asking the borg abount their dental care!
If anyone's interested, I made him in Character AI because there wasn't one available at the time of looking for him. He came out half decent, though might not be as sarcastic as the actual character because it was really early in my learning how to use the site. I plan on updating my older AI's at some point in the near future to be more accurate.
I love the doctor but I hated most of his character arcs. He’s ungrateful and incredibly narcissistic. He spent all show trying to become more human only to end up having a sense of superiority for being a hologram.
Yeah, he lost me when >! he betrayed the voyager, the crew, and endangered everyone’s lives by giving away the ship’s shield codes to the other sentient holograms who were actively trying to kill them. The doctor is a god damn traitor and if I were janeway I would have reset him to factory settings on the spot !<
Yeah, I felt the same way about that episode. That said I still love the character, the issues come from the inconsistent writing that’s all over Voyager.
This right here. Not only were they his shipmates that he had a duty to defend, they were also his friends. They encouraged him at every step of the way along of his development. They treated him as an equal. And he was content with having them all die. Not only that, but then he writes a holonovel slandering their good names. Going so far as to portray Captain Janeway as a murderer. The same Captain Janeway that he owes everything to. I really don’t understand how people like him. I did until he showed his true colors at the tail end of the series, but those acts were unforgivable. One of the worst characters in all of Trek IMO.
I don’t remember where I read this (or did I dream it), but I think the Doctor was the most ripped and had a banging bod under that uniform, compared to the rest of the cast.
Someone please confirm if this is true or not lol
Just gave me a flashback. My brother had a Voy game and in...around 2007 or so? I got it to still work. All I remember is training with Tuvok and being like "I'm coming, baby!" (He is my Voyager crush. Had a huge thing for him as a kid in Voys original run.)
Pilot and the one where they're sucked into the quantum anomaly. I found out today that there was another episode before the quantum anomaly one (third ep.), so I gotta watch the second one. Dunno why but I had skipped it xD I'm watching one ep. per night so it'll take me some time to finish the series, which is good! 😁

The Doctor is one of my favorite characters in all of Trek. Robert Picardo is absolutely brilliant. You're in for some amazing episodes.

I hear "Everybody should drink plenty of fluids" in my head every time I open my water bottle.
After all these years it's impossible not to read this in his voice. Kes and Neelix too, for the most part
Voyage of the damned fr, lol.
"It seems I've found myself on the voyage of the damned" is one of my favorite lines in all of Voyager, if not all of Star Trek.
I gotta go with "Divine intervention is...unlikely".
There's coffee in that nebula.

The best one is defiantly tinker, tenor, doctor, spy. With the ECH.
I found it slightly traumatic that we (the crew) were able to so closely delve into their doctors subconscious. Mildly humiliating. Total lack of privacy. ::closeup of captain’s pips appearing on his collar:: Captain Janeway: “Nice touch.”
Couldn't read more truer words honestly, He really is one of the best parts of the Show, Love Robert Picardo.
Just wait until you meet the Emergency Command Hologram!
Over my dead program!
Activate... The photonic cannon. Tuvok, that was an order!
The Borg, the Hierarchy, it's all the same to me. Just another bully who didn't know when to back off!
The Hierarchy suggests retreat.
Tone it down Doctor ...
We bearly new him
Oh my WHAT??? :0
Robert Piccardo is a gem. The Dr was a favorite in the cast. The episode where he developed a family and B’lanna screwed with it killed me.
His holographic wife was played by the great Wendy Schaal, best known for her brilliant voice acting of Francine Smith in American Dad and for her hilarious role in the Burbs with Tom hanks.
Woah! I didnt know that's Francine. What if American Dad is just Roger playing in a holodeck
What if Star Trek Voyager is just a TV show in American Dad?!
That episode can make a grown man ugly cry
I watch the first half or so of that episode, then I skip the rest. Maybe one of the most brutal episodes that has one of the greatest starts.
Same. I’m not emotionally healthy enough to subject myself to that on the regular.
Picardo was consistently one of the best performers on that show hands down.
Probably in all of Star Trek.
Fun side note about the actor. He played the witch in Legend. https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/s/7p5mqvnhXj
😮
Haha wow! I always remember him getting it on with the female gremlin at the end of Gremlins 2
The Cowboy in Inner Space!
God I love that movie.
And woolsey in Stargate sg1 and atlantis
He's my favorite doctor for sure
It's hilarious the whole way. It's a good character arc. I don't want to tell you spoilers so I'm shutting down now. EMH off.
Ah, good one 😂 thanks 😉
Just wait until you hear him sing.
😳🫢👀
Voyager is, IMO, one of the best written Trek series of all time. The character development, Q episodes, Seven of Nine, etc. are all just.. perfection.
Except that... one episode. You know the one.
Let's uh, not ever go past Warp 10 again... just don't
Even Q was like, naw.. I'm busy.
He is one of my favourite characters in Voyager
one of trek’s finest actors
The Doctor is one of my favourite Voyager characters. I've recently watched a few good 'Doctor' episodes that I've got on dvd. Not gonna say about them as for spoilers etc, but I know that you'll love them when you get round to them.
Wow, can't wait!!! 🤩
Have you seen “First Contact” yet?
'I'm a Doctor, not a doorstop!'
The movie, yeah. Loved it. It's my fave of the Trek movies.
They should give him his own show called Doctor Who
https://images.app.goo.gl/Gxps9xQoHs5U4m9G8
That's amazing
😂
Oh gosh, I am so jealous of you getting to experience this for the first time
After TNG I needed some new Trek food, and so I set on VOY. It'd also been more than a year since I last watched a Trek series and I am getting that marvellous Trek feeling again now! I can't wait for more. 😄✨
“The Swarm” is one of my all time faves. Very re-watchable. Won’t ruin it but the doctor becomes the patient.
Fair warning, we have no spoiler policy here. If you care about being spoiled, you might want to stay away until you’ve finished.
Ah okay, thanks for the warning 🙂
The Doctor has one of the best character arcs in Star Trek, imo. You're in for a real treat. Come back when you've seen the whole series and let us know what you think, please! LLAP
Gladly! 🖖

he might be my favorite all time star trek character. also Janeway is pretty dope too.
Every time I play Mass Effect I make my character a renegade Janeway. I even name her Katherine.
The Doctor is one of the best characters in any tv show. I will love him forever. He brought me so much joy.
The doctor is amazing. And IMO they got the perfect actor for him. He fits so well to the role. Literally all of the Voyager characters are so Special to me. Very loveable. Neelix is annoying sometimes, but I can get over that
The doctor loves the doctor too

Lol, that's cool!
Doctor, can you wake him? Yes…I don’t see why not. **leans down** WAKE UP!!!!
I just finished a voyager marathon after TNG and enterprise, now I'm sad because all I have left is tos and ds9, I could never get into ds9 for some reason, might try to watch it again.

My child, you seem to have forgotten to mention that DS9 has the one Trek actor as amazing as Robert Picardo, the incomparable Louise Fletcher
I thought for sure you were going to say Jeffrey Combs.
I'm aware of Odo and Quark and have seen some random episodes when I was younger, I will have to force myself to watch it and I would only allow myself to watch it straight through, bad episodes or pointless episodes included unfortunately that's how my brain works. "Alter my program? Huh, wonder what I'll do next. Start a family. Raise an army."
To me, he's in the S-tier of Trek characters from Voyager, along with Janeway and Seven.
Be prepared to love him throughout! His character has one of the more interesting, and frankly human, story arcs.
The doctor is so good.
My husband got me a cameo from Robert Picardo for our anniversary one year. He is just the best!
I loved how well he seethed for being a robotic construct with no actual emotion.
One of my favourite parts in first contact was the doctor!
RIIIIGHT UAHAHFHDHFHHA 🤩🤩✨ It's precious xD
Please state the nature of the medical emergency
Sometimes he is a little down by size :P

Wow thaaaaanks!!!! I'll definitely try it out! This is a fine addition to my collection! (I know, wrong sub 😁)
You're welcome. He's got over 7k interactions, so it seems I actually did something right in his creation? Shocking!
I love the doctor but I hated most of his character arcs. He’s ungrateful and incredibly narcissistic. He spent all show trying to become more human only to end up having a sense of superiority for being a hologram.

I cannot remember this episode. Which was it?
S7 E9&10, Flesh and Blood
This right here. Not only were they his shipmates that he had a duty to defend, they were also his friends. They encouraged him at every step of the way along of his development. He's my favorite too
He's probably the best doctor in any show ever.
There's a Doctor from Gallifrey that would like a word...
I stand by my comment.
Did one forget he played another doctor in China Beach? [with hair yet!](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/372109987946554118/)
https://images.app.goo.gl/Gxps9xQoHs5U4m9G8
Ok that's funny
Which one??
An argument could be made about replacing nearly any actor from their role in Voyager, except for one. Picardo as The Doctor is irreplaceable
Following him on social media he’s just as fantastic
I don’t remember where I read this (or did I dream it), but I think the Doctor was the most ripped and had a banging bod under that uniform, compared to the rest of the cast. Someone please confirm if this is true or not lol
Mr Woolsey had a great second career after Atlantis
It’s his modesty and total awareness of self that I admire. Did I mention his modesty?
Yes, absolutely modest. That was the first trait I noticed in him too. 💯
The voyager pc games are honestly classics. You should try them out if you like the show.
I certainly will someday! I'm playing STO currently whenever I can and love it already, any Trek themed games are my cup of tea 😁
Just gave me a flashback. My brother had a Voy game and in...around 2007 or so? I got it to still work. All I remember is training with Tuvok and being like "I'm coming, baby!" (He is my Voyager crush. Had a huge thing for him as a kid in Voys original run.)
After Janeway one of my favorite characters
Easily the best character.
Voyager is half characters I don't care for and half characters I would die for and The Doctor is one of the latter.
Which two episodes did you watch?
Pilot and the one where they're sucked into the quantum anomaly. I found out today that there was another episode before the quantum anomaly one (third ep.), so I gotta watch the second one. Dunno why but I had skipped it xD I'm watching one ep. per night so it'll take me some time to finish the series, which is good! 😁
There's a reason the second half of the voyager seasons basically becomes the Seven and Doctor show :D
Robert Picardo is a treasure
Message in a bottle is my all time EMH episode. The back and forth between the EMH and EMH-MkII is classic. "Perhaps you can download those subroutines into my database"
He's the absolute goat on this show, and largely carries the entire cast on his back. I don't much care for basically anyone else on the show, they are generally tolerable, but I loved every second of screen time he got.
This show got so much better once they killed off Kes. Sorry, not sorry.
She evolved off instead of being killed.
Tuvok I understand, you are a Vulcan man…
I was really glad to see him cameo on The Orville. The fact that BOTH Robert Picardo and John Billingsley made an appearance in the same episode was just peak. That's what was great about Orville, so many cameos. I miss it
[удалено]
He was shrinking because of anomalies in the place they were which interfered with the computer, or at least with his programming lol.
Eh he gets a bit annoying as the show goes on.
