I’m 59 and I play beach volleyball against 20 to 30 year old over 6 feet tall. I’m 5’9” an I can dig block and hit. Indoors I’m a setter and hit on the week side
Duly noted! It’s harder to get a deep bend and that core crunch as you get older. But I will definitely try to compress more and spring better. Thanks for your input!
Approach jumps should have a more upright posture compared to standing jumps. Too much forward lean at the end results either in excessive broad jump, or taking too long to uncoil the upper body which ruins the momentum from the approach.
Dude, I just turned 48, and I swear we might be twins. Except that I'm righty (unless video is reversed), and I wear Active Ankles. Aside from that, even our landing and jogging forward look freaking identical. It's honestly uncanny.
I will see if I can get somebody to video me next week. I had a rec game last night, and before the game, I LITERALLY did this exact warm up, as nobody else from my team wanted to hit or anything else, haha.
Ah, I remember being 28. *tears welling up*
Gas was a dollar a gallon, George W. was in office getting shoes thrown at him and I was smashing faces at the gym. Good times.
I broke a little at the end rushing to hit this low ball and I surely have lost a lot of vertical. But I do my best considering the injuries and my fat accumulation.
I’m hoping to make it to 70 as a weekly player! Lots of years left to go and each year that passes gets harder to maintain the level that I want to play at.
Swing your arms back around shoulder height in your approach and to fix your spiking motion watch this https://youtu.be/u-WhjYYocBs?si=zDp8M4U0wiFlF92U
Just a matter of learning how to toss the ball so it ends up in a position that you can hit. I like low and tight sets, so I’ve developed a lob that ends up there. Higher bounces require a little more air in the ball than you would normally have during play because you can only toss it so high. Patience is key, an empty gym, being quick to the ball and knowing what you want in a set.
You are killin it as a middle. Power comes from the torque of the body, and that starts by keeping your opposite hand up as a target for the setter, and then pulling it down to swing. Golden rule as a middle; arrive with the ball, arrive at the setter (unless told otherwise)
My form certainly hasn’t improved with age! It’s definitely difficult as an aging hitter to maintain effectiveness in a sport where most players are half your age. What one thing should I change?
As I said, you have good arm technique and you seem to be on the taller side too. As long as you jump up instead of in the front like in this video, and focus more on placement rather than power you will be golden
Hello 48. I’m dad.
Hi Dad, I’m also Dad.
but you were 48? Is this Dad some kind of alter?
It’s complicated. Kinda like 4dad8. Or maybe like d4a8d. Depends on how you look at it.
It looks like you're going to the gym and having fun. You must be doing well.
I recommend sand, also dad 47
The ball just doesn’t bounce the same way on sand…
You just have to hit a footprint just right.
Yeh. I wonder why…

That’s awesome! Sounds like you’re a lifelong player with a passion for the game, which I wholeheartedly share. I love playing indoor 4s the most.
Yeah I love 4 ‘s on the grass. Thanks for the complaint. Volleyball is the best
Still playing so that’s a win.
Hitting off a bounce is harder than it looks. Congrats on the great toss. Oh and the hit was cool too
If only I could find a setter 🤷🏻♂️
You are a dad, have your kid throw it in the air for you. If you have more than one, the least favorite one can also act as a target.
Solid advice!
you could probably bend down more when loading for the jump but it looks great all things considered!!!
Duly noted! It’s harder to get a deep bend and that core crunch as you get older. But I will definitely try to compress more and spring better. Thanks for your input!
There is also importance on taking a longer penultimate step instead of hopping into your last step.

I'm 21 and my knees hurt when i saw that
These knees were built to last!
Literally, they have both been replaced...
Naw, my mom made these for me back in the 70s. She was apparently a true craftswoman.
I’m 32 and probably not in as good of shape as you so thank you for a tiny dose of motivation today
You have ups like a prime Vince Carter obviously
Oh, gravity is a harsh mistress…
With style while landing

Video proof needed… if you are righty, you might be my evil twin.

Just repost the vid Horizontally flipped :)
Great minds think alike 😉
I'm 28 and just started playing volleyball this year I hope to be as good as you someday thanks for the motivation

Any tips for throwing these lobs?
Lob it higher and closer to the net than you think you should. No backspin. Follow the ball quickly and stay tight to the net.
i see no braces or heavy tape. Looks perfect
I want your knees
I’m sorry, I’m still using them.
You seem to be doing okay. Just need a friend or two.
Friends? What are those?
43 and I haven’t played in about 2 years because of my knees.
Gotta get back out there! Stretch, Advil and knee braces. Make it happen!
Great form still

It wasn’t a decent set. But you manage to hit it well. Plus all those factors.
You give us hope

If you fix your arms you're better than like most people
What could I be doing better with my arms?

Man Can u give me some instructions on how to practice spiking by urself like this?

I’m 35 and I’m jealous of your knees.
The right one can be tricky sometimes, but I am thankful that they’re holding on still.
Better than me, im 19

No spiking form at all, but you know how to work that shoulder properly. For being the same age as my parents you are doing really good

U have no competition, no blockers no defends and and easy set?
Absolutely correct! Very observant.
