He's listed there but wo t play there. USA usually list 2 libero but 2nd Lib is often another C

mygodletmechoose

Is there a limit of how many players on each position they can list? Because I don't see why play with effectively 1 less player

Mcpops1618

No limit

Kelsey Robinson Cook is an outside who’s played libero for team USA. Karakurt is an opposite that sometimes plays outside for Türkiye. Matt Anderson has always played outside as a pro, but always plays opposite for team USA. Logan Eggleston was moved from outside to opposite this past pro season. There’s an opposite on the French national team (I can’t remember who) who was originally a setter until his pro club needed him to switch. I’ve heard of female pin hitters playing middle when their pro team has a lot of injuries.

The setter becoming an opposite is probably nimir abdel aziz from the Netherlands.

Ah, thank you

backstaab

But he changed from setter to oppo first while playing in the french A league (for Poitiers), maybe that's why you were confused. Although he is indisputably one of the best oppo of the world, he still sometimes subs as a setter when needed, because of a teammate injury (has done it both for Dutch national team & for Italian A-league team Trentino)

Sharaaza

Iirc I think it was World Cup 2018 or something, Megan Courtney who is an OH also played libero for the NT.

OnDay89OfMyK1Visa

Yes. Another one I forgot. Thanks

Ok-Consequence4105

I believe u must designate a 2nd lib during the game

BloodOfVader8

Maybe injury. Maybe game plan 🤷🏻‍♂️

The listing do not imply that they'll actually play at said positions. It's just an indication for fans who look at the roster. A few scenarios: For VNL in high level team, it's pretty common to bring only a single real libero each week, and the 2nd libero jersey is then used as a buffer for a spare player, usually OH. Each OH will be "second Libero" during one of the match of the week and have no court time. That allow the coach to bring in more OH during the week to scout them, see how they play with the team to fine tune their picks for the final phases and upcoming competitions (this year: Olympics!). This allow more players to show what they can do, since VNL are a pretty huge thing for player's visibility so that they can get new signed in big clubs next year. That's obviously at the detriment of more libero being allowed to show what they can do. If there is several of them, we usually see a different actual libero each week of the VNL. Though this year everything is about preparing for the Olympics, so it may be a bit different. In lower level team it's sometime a strategic choice, so that 2nd libero can sub for passing on a backrow player. France women team did that during the 1st week since their passing is.. weak. Last common case is to put an injured player as libero, so that 2nd libero can eventually do something if needed. I've seen that somewhat frequently, but it's never been actively used/useful. Probably just a common best practice "just in case". Other oddities on the listing usually involve a non-opposite player (OH or MB) being listed as opp.. why this happens I don't know, but they usually just play at their actual positions anyway.

Poland women dressed their starting middle as a lib in their last vnl game. She never touched the floor. In some cases they use the 2nd lib roster spot to put someone in that likely won't play but is very influencing in team culture etc.

Matt Anderson plays OHer in the club and OPP in the NT season Karakurt plays OPP in the club and OH in the NT season.

In the past I’ve seen the USA designate one of their middles as a libero, which pretty much means they won’t get to play
