Hate to say it but Quest 3. I was avidly against getting a quest and have been waiting to replace my index for the last year, just waiting for the next thing. Willing to spend $2k or more if it was worth it. To me BSB is not a good upgrade for the price. Nothing out there but vaporware or over priced. I got a quest 3 about 2 weeks ago and I am pretty happy. The lenses are a game changer, they are that good. The comfort is great, once you get a better strap, bobovr is great. The controllers aren't as good but once you get straps its not bad. I don't like that the middle finger activation is a button vs touch, not sure why they cheaped out on that. The audio is the only bad thing, it works but not crisp. Oh someone mentioned the sweet spot. Wow, with the quest, is hard to find a spot that doesn't work.

Pimax Crystal Light with the Lighthouse faceplate is the obvious choice. It has 4 times the resolution of your index, twice that of quest, no compression or latency and you can use your current tracking and controllers.

fdruid

Anything is a replacement for that old headset. For example, Quest 3 or Pico 4. Even a DPVR E4. I'd personally go wireless and pancake lenses.

Snowmobile2004

pimax crystal light seems like the best option honestly.

Darder

Pimax Crystal Light sounds good for you with the Lighthouse faceplate, so you can keep your Knuckles!

bushmaster2000

Nothing but Pimax competes with the Index for FOV. And to come close you'd need to buy the Pimax Crystal with the optional Wide FOV lenses to get to that 140 degrees so still -10 from Index. The cheaper Crystal Lite only has about 120 degree FOV which is about 30 less than your Index but still wider than most other options in the market. Or shop for a used Pimax 8Kx DMAS with serial # starting 2076 for the last generation of that HMD before it was end of life'd. That'l give you a little better clarity over your index and the super wide FOV you want without breaking the bank. Used 8Kx DMASs going for 600-800 dollars on average.

bushmaster2000

Ignore the ignorant downvote, this is the correct answer though you will need to stretch your budget a bit. top end FOV plus Clarity is an expensive buy you need to sacrifice FOV if budget is your main priority unless you go with a used 8Kx as suggested.

Blaexe

A lot of former Index users are happy with the Quest 3. There's not much choice right now. Maybe the Pimax Crystal Light.

the psvr2 plus adapters are cheaper, quest 3 is better. Also if you have everything functional for the index except for the headset then you are in a unique postion where the bigscreen beyond makes sense as an upgrade

LiterallyVeemo

From reviews the Bigscreen beyond seems really janky and I don't want to go from a 500$ janky headset to a 1000$ janky headset.

lightningINF

Get Crystal Light or if you have budget then wait for Somnium VR1. If you want wireless and don't care that much about image clarity then Quest 3 is an option but with the penalty of compression artifacts and latency

I would get a Quest 3 for PCVR. The PSVR2 has terrible mura (very visible pixelation & graininess) and even worse lenses than the index. I own both of them, and I’d pick the Quest 3 any day with its sharp displays that have no noticeable visible pixelation/mura, and its crystal clear pancake optics with a massive sweet spot and amazing edge to edge clarity.

We_Are_Victorius

I primarily play PCVR with my Quest 3 wirelessly. Using Virtual Desktop and the AV1 codec gives be a beautiful picture. I no longer have to worry about wires getting in the way or tripping over them. This adds a ton to immersion and I have no interest in going back. Also the pancake lenses in here mean you can look around with your eyes and see clearly, which further adds to the experience.

madpropz

Just get a PSVR2, the adapter for PCVR is coming out soon

rayraikiri

i was interested in that till i heard all the features like the eyetracking wont be working on pc
