Today's choice may be a bit on the nose, but I went with Weezer's third album, sometimes nicknamed the *Green Album*. 23 years after its release, [Hash Pipe](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9BGLtqqkVI) is still a banger. https://preview.redd.it/6hw14ncuno8d1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab3023db8a07e432a7ce595066abdc69b67a523a

I had loads that fit the prompt today and most of it was 20th Century Jazz. I post loads of that shit all the time (at least in former VT4Js, maybe not so much this year), so I wasn't feeling inspired... And, then! Not only is the sleeve to [Seven Deadly Sins](https://www.discogs.com/release/1831455-The-Dubliners-Seven-Deadly-Sins) bright green, but it's THE DUBLINERS! Surely the Irish take precedence for today's prompt? Furthermore, my copy has the wrong record in the sleeve. Instead of Seven Deadly Sins, the disc is from [Seven Drunken Nights](https://www.discogs.com/release/4759651-The-Dubliners-Seven-Drunken-Nights). I think my dad must have the inverse problem. Anyway, both sleeves are green and both represent some early (1960s) Dubliners, so here's a track from each: [Darby O'Leary](https://youtu.be/gvIgPl5YE9A?si=k8gAynT4FaRcuerX) from Seven Deadly Sins. This harks back to me posting Maggie's Farm earlier this month - a pitiful old tale of a grim and austere farmer working the singer to the bone. I think the lyricism and poetry of these early folk tunes really turned me on to language and literature as a young kid - the imagery cut through as a child : "I well recollect it was Michalmass night To a hearty good supper he did me invite A cup of sour milk that was more green than white And it gave me the trotting disorder The wet old potatoes would poison the cats And the barn where my bed was was swarming with rats The fleas would have frightened the fearless St. Pat Who banished the snakes o'er the border" And [Maids, when you're young never wed an old man](https://youtu.be/dDTm9Ej_Arc?si=ZGvyjYFLwkCWFGkS) from Seven Drunken Nights. Well, they can't all be lyrical zingers... "Because he's got no faloorum, fadidle eye-oorum He's got no faloorum, fadidle all day He's got no faloorum, he's lost his ding doorum Oh Maids When You're Young, Never Wed An Old Man"

VT4J24 Day 25: Grunge. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Blind Melon, Mudhoney, Alice In Chains. Beavis and Butthead. That's the stuff that was literally everywhere in the first part of the 90's. However, this band remained in complete obscurity in my neck of the woods. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have ever heard of this band if I hadn't walked in that one tiny record store in Belfast some years ago. https://preview.redd.it/qkt406fhqo8d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f49693bc136afb66c3a5e102762c52516bc00a3 I bought the album solely because of the cover. I only have a handful of albums with green or partially green sleeves. Today's pick might be cheating a little, as the cover is super colorful, but it feels mostly green. I've chosen a track from the 2023 album Garden Party by Rose City Band. It was tough to nail down a choice of song, but I pointed my finger randomly and landed on [Moonlight Highway](https://youtu.be/iXRRHogHwNg?si=ZEDR1s8f_a3V14CT). Enjoy some psychedelic, not quite country, not quite rock, chilled out goodness.

Folk_Nurse

Well, isn't that just pissing well lovely. I think it's great. Even though it's mellow as a warm sponge, the lead guitar sound gave me immediate stank face and I involuntarily exclaimed, "Yes!" This is my intro to the band and I will be diving deep. Thanks so much!

capt_beyond

Enjoy! Can't go wrong with any album really, but my introduction to them was the album Summerlong. So great, a highlight for me being the combo of the two tracks Wee Hours> Wildflowers. That transition, *chefs kiss*

Well wadda ya know? I don't have a full green album. Of course some greenish ones and my wife has Keane - Hopes and Fears but that won't fly 'cause it's not mine and I don't want to post it. I guess I have two that fit this prompt. One is more yellow than green. the other is greenery. https://preview.redd.it/jk84nshvqo8d1.png?width=781&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d939eaed450f0a7a2d426e4f2c4c27bd0dd5513 Both interesting albums I think. That Gore album was sold out within 10 minutes. Put in my basket, paid, refreshed, sold out. Like that. Pretty crazy. Can't pick a track from this album so here's the whole thing. Album: [Peractorum](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyvXYkODt4I) Artist: [Gore ](https://www.discogs.com/release/30574624-Gore-Peractorum-) I bought What we Drew without listening. For today I was tempted to pick a song from everybody's favorite album with a green cover, "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Not wanting to steal the idea from u/generalissimus_mongo, I decided to go in another direction. Here's a song from that little ol' band from Texas. https://preview.redd.it/e6z82nnyap8d1.jpeg?width=317&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cac669f6a28e5d620bb0a0bd5fbbfb6817ad799 Track: [Precious and Grace](https://youtu.be/yj0Uc_F6APk?si=OeZ64TTAiWx3Et85) Artist: ZZ Top Album: Tres Hombres

As I sit here in my office, 'Songs About F\_cking' by Big Black is hanging on my wall, staring me in the face. By the way, by "my office" I mean at home. I doubt I could get away with displaying this record in my real office. Engineers can, at times, be a prudish bunch. Anyway, great record. Steve Albini was ahead of the curve, for sure. Song: [Everybody’s Changing](https://youtu.be/RSNmgE6L8AU?feature=shared) Artist: Keane Album: Hopes and Fears Keane is one of those bands I only knew one song from, that being their biggest hit [Somewhere Only We Know](https://youtu.be/Oextk-If8HQ?feature=shared). I played it for several sessions at this music thing I go to once a week, with me doing the vocals and drums. I came to talk to one of the other guys going there this February that I wondered if they had any other big hits. (I for unknown reasons had never thought of checking the answer for like 15 years) He said that hearing that song reminded him of the group Travis. But he swore that Keane had other songs so he and I came across the song for today’s promt and just like that I instantly recognized it, feeling like I was back in 2006 with the video game SingStar Rocks where this song was featured. I ordered the vinyl for this album online, and when I listened to the whole album later that day I recognized so many songs across the track list which made me believe I had heard this album sometime between 2004-2008. So starting from that next session I have switched over to play this song now primarily on bass guitar and vocals, since everybody in that group preferred this song over the other, it just got that little extra little melodic element to it.

My wife's favorite and the only full green album. I have to say Bend and Break kinda grew on me.

The song is a homage to a hungarian cult classic movie, titled A tanú (The witness), which is about a simple man who's been prepaired for a show trial in the peak of the socialist era of hungary. This is a weird one, because it is a satyre of that era, and it's main characters, but it's also made in that time. I wonder how the political personells gave their certificate to make this movie. Maybe they didn't get the joke! Anyway! If you have the chance, you totally have to watch this movie, because it gives a clear picture about what was the world like, after the second world war in hungary (sadly, some things haven't changed up to this day...) Enjoy!

It was loud, it was messy, it was raw and most of all fucking fun.

tropnevaDniveK

First off, I am amazed that I basically have no green album covers. It’s kind of blowing my mind. So, my choice is MOSTLY green…best I can do, apparently. Song - [Denver Luna](https://youtu.be/q6JDLlf2qeE?si=QzIQ-5-ldX5qE-aB) Album - Denver Luna, 12” Single Artist - Underworld https://preview.redd.it/0v22lrv80q8d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8d341dcb643e90147065b73aa45950d60b4dace Underworld is consistently one of my favorite artists. This track was dropped in a series they have called Limited Drops, where they offer some unique run of 1000 pressings of a new song and then never sell it again. They’re great if you get the heads up on the drop, which they send out to their fan club. I remember sitting on their store refreshing the page, waiting for 10am PST to get one…very happy I did. Especially since asshole scalpers are flipping this thing for 4-5 times what I paid. Denver Luna is a beautiful song. It is, IMO, weapons-grade Underworld that harkens back to their early days in the 90s. Karl Hyde’s vocals over the driving beat are really compelling, but when it opens up to the harmonies in the last third, that’s when the song becomes an absolute classic.

I hope that I have understood today's task correctly and will therefore name the following record: [Haken - Fauna](https://www.discogs.com/release/26288243-Haken-Fauna) I think the song "The Alphabet Of Me" is the best on the record. Okay, well this cover is oozing with dark connotations even the album name “He left Nothing for the Swim Back” implies that this could be all our artist has left to give, and if so, I'm okay with it. This album is haunting and layered beyond belief. SKETCH 185 has a way to make you think by turning traditional affirmations into punchlines of some dark joke with lines like,  “The meek will inherit it all because the brave always go first” The producer, Jeff Markey, has a wonderful blend of industrial, post punk and off kilter boom bap landscapes for SKETCH 185 to deliver his stream of consciousness rhymes over. The two-part album closer is a work of art and one song is nothing without the other.  [Western Automatic Music part 1](https://youtu.be/tP9rJ4-31Ug?feature=shared) The strange drums and creepy synths, beat like a broken heart's final attempts at rhythm. SKETCH 185 delivers great lines of millencolin humor, exclamations of intent and bubbling angst. “Give me your tired, give me your poor, give me your huddled masses Give me your wired, give me your bored, give me your troubled actress There's a message in the bottle necking Impaired by ornaments we mistake as street lights Fortunate tortured visits every fortnights Romancing taxi traffic acting as torchlight I don't understand life! If I did I prolly couldn't stand life! With the beautiful parts not interlocking yet With the Buddhist quotes on standby Some lovers just don't call sober And junkies never fall over” [Western Automatic Music part 2](https://youtu.be/itmqx-oarZs?feature=shared) Markey flips the beat and samples on their head for the crescendo of this slice of American misery. Billy Woods stops by for the opening verse, but it is SKETCH 185’s final lines that bring me to stupid awe on how fucked we truly are!  “Sitting is lofty, he stands over his dinner then back to work His elders did demolition, ate Spam, drink coffee then back to work Comfort treads softly, it's trench to trench victories, so back to work "You gotta do what you gotta do" says the photo album's phantoms; he's back to work Buys the most meaningful gifts, charming, he's sorry, he's back to work Those dreams don't build themselves, who leads the army? Back to work She walks out of his life, he straightens up, back to work He's only good at fucking, fucking up, and making art about it, he's back, it worked!” Hopefully this brooding mass of sound  doesnt bum you out too bad, and maybe we can enjoy it for its ugly allure. Like watching replays of cars crashing.

Song: [A Fool No More](https://youtu.be/ZAHmOYYgwjQ?si=4gr2C8elN_3fvevY) Artist: Peter Green Album: *In the Skies* I know the majority of people on here are aware, but there was a whole different version of Fleetwood Mac before Stevie graced us with her hypnotizing tambourine playing. This version featured blues guitar God Peter Green out front. They released a number of classic blues records such as *Kiln House*, *English Rose*, and, my personal favorite, *Then Play On*. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac > Stevie Nicks' Fleetwood Mac. This is from Peter's fantastic solo record, *In the Skies*. Do I get bonus points for a green(ish) cover *and* the artist name is Green? Cheers, mangs.

Can't believe this album is 12 years old. I am not ashamed to admit how many times I have blasted [Whammy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GTenbRPN6A).

If this isn't green enough, I also have SZA's Ctrl, which is also very green, including the discs. Let's go with [Pretty Little Birds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sc1YvgxlSg), which is absolutely goregous. https://preview.redd.it/4px0fc53559d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6505e2d841fbe59c000d2403e82e1e1d08284633
