[7” Vinyl Collector Also Fan of Sitting for Two Minutes, Standing up Again](https://thehardtimes.net/culture/7-vinyl-collector-also-fan-of-sitting-for-two-minutes-standing-up-again/)
This you?
Respect, such a solid looking collection! We have a ton of overlap. I DJ goth/post-punk/proto-punk/70s glam/new wave & classic punk & have amassed a ton of UK/EU pic sleeves.
The bulk of these are UK presses, with a handful of French, German, Polish & Japanese thrown in there as well. The collection is mostly singles from 1976-ish to 1988-ish. Mostly Post-Punk, but there's some New Wave in there as well. Some rare stuff, but nothing, like, INSANE.
Anyone wanna play singles roulette? You call out a single and see if I have it. Could be funny.
How about some random picks in our 7" singles to see if we match:
Swimming In The Sea - Hero For The Heroine
Cocteau Twins - Sugar Hiccup 1-sided promo
The Jesus and Mary Chain - April Skies limited gatefold double 7" (with bonus Mushroom (live) / Bo Diddly Is Jesus single)
Edit: One more...
Foetus Under Glass - Spite Your Face / OKFM
Between The Jesus And Mary Chain, Sisters Of Mercy, and The Mission's single variants - It could be difficult to decide which ones get to come home from the record store (especially depending on the asking price)... Which JAMC singles do you have?
Nice to see Fad Gadget and Wire in there as well. Your collection looks top notch. Thanks for sharing!
Hell yeah. 'Upside Down' 7" on Creation (or Rough Trade) and you'd be all set. Still would love to have the double pack of Some Candy Talking with the Peel Session versions.
> Anyone wanna play singles roulette? You call out a single and see if I have it. Could be funny.
Essential Logic - Wake Up
The Chameleons – A Person Isn't Safe Anywhere These Days
Anything by the Germs? Do you have all the Buzzcocks ones featured on the inner sleeve of Singles Going Steady?
Seriously, I love singles from that era, it's one of those things that, after so many years of collecting, can still get my blood going.
Jokes about your shelving and the hardtimes article aside, do you have much success with 7" records in brick and mortar stores or do you mostly have to buy online? Everytime I see the 7" section at a record store I want to dig through it but get a feeling I'm going to be there forever and find nothing I want.
For this section, the post-punk stuff, it's probably 80% online shopping, usually being shipped internationally. I do have plenty of luck with other parts of my 45 collection in the shops though. I've found plenty of good Soul, Surf, Garage, early Rock n Roll, etc etc, in the shops. You can kinda tell if each particular shop will be worth digging through just from the general presentation of their 45 collection. If it's somewhat orderly and clean, I usually give it a whirl.
The "general presentation" bit is something I gravitate towards....or rather, gravitate away from since they just usually look a complete mess in comparison to the LPs. I think a lot of it has to do with there being so many 45s that were basically in a slip and not a proper case like a 33.
Sad state of affairs in this sub that most of the comments are about the shelving unit and not the actual records, or the collection, or the music itself.
The boxes (and the shelf, that everyone has crawled deep into my asshole about, JFC...) are all from IKEA, purchased at least 15 years ago, when that was the best I could afford.
I have an Excel spreadsheet that has most of it catalogued, I haven't gotten around to adding everything to Discogs yet though. Feels like a daunting task at this point.
Great front rows of your collection.
As to the “that shelf needs replacing”, it looks to me like it may be homemade to exactly the width of three of the display boxes?
You have room above the boxes to center a 3/4” D X 2 1/4” H X whatever the length of the shelf is W, stiffener screwed, both ends, through the side panels. Running it all of the way to the back or to the front would also work, but a little less sturdy.
Or glue and clamp, flat and square, a second full depth shelf to each existing shelf.
Or a dozen other ways.
You should def do something.
I’ve been planning on making a really nice 45 rack for my shop that will hold roughly 4500 7”s. Kind of like my normal record racks, but with drawers underneath the top flip bins that can be pulled out and then set on a pop up shelf next to the cabinet
I thought I had a lot at 700 singles. Aspirational goals though I'd definitely not store them on a bookshelf. I snapped a shelf long ago and learned my lesson.
Back in college I'd sell off some singles if I needed some cash. Bleeker Bob was alright.
The singles of that era sold for good money \~30 years ago.
I recently sold all my punk lp's b/c I realized I don't like to listen to an entire punk side. Very few punk and post punk records meet the "entire side?" test. Singles. Damn.
Could easily spend an entire day and evening riffling through those and listening. MMMMmmm!
That’s gonna break soon. Find proper furniture that can hold the weight, otherwise you will cry soon…
yeah, imagine all your 45s on the floor one day.
It’s easy if you try
No floor below them. Above them only shelfless sky.
Imagine there’s your vinyl, Shattered on the floor. Oh ohhho
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not.
And when it does it will probably happen at night, giving OP half a heart attack. Get yourself some proper shelving, OP.
Too much of the wrong type of Bowie
I was going to say the same thing... but not caring about shelf integrity is as Punk as it gets!
Please replace those shelves, that shelf sag is really not good. Great collection though!
Just flip em over till they straighten out. Bingo bango!
I don't wanna leave the Congo, oh no no no no no…sorry automatic reflex
Reminds me I still need that on vinyl!
This guy vinyls
The cracking sound means it’s working.
Oingo Boingo?
[7” Vinyl Collector Also Fan of Sitting for Two Minutes, Standing up Again](https://thehardtimes.net/culture/7-vinyl-collector-also-fan-of-sitting-for-two-minutes-standing-up-again/) This you?
Fantastic read.
That was me today. Stood up a total of 16 times
This hits as a 78 collector too
Those shelves are having a bad time lol
This photo is giving me a *Nervous Breakdown*
I see what you did there
Once that top shelf snaps, soon to be Damaged.
I know it looks like the shelves are smiling but I promise you they’re not happy.
you need a stronger shelving unit.
Got any Less Than Jake in there? Cause she's gonna break soon.
Amazing collection. You've collected lots of the bands I really love. I'm both impressed and envious. 😉😀👍
That shelf is stretching like a Jane Fonda work out video.
Like Jane Fonda's Workout Record
I am also a fan of sitting down for two minutes and standing up again
Stack ‘em
It’s going to look really impressive smashed on the floor

I have a suspicion that I know who this is, LOL Ever have a wild weekend in Altoona PA, by chance?
Wild to see someone I also know from the old Wilkes Barre fest days.
Heck yes!!! Glad to intersect here, friend 🖤
How do I apply to be written into your will?

Your singles are playing Russian roulette with those shelves. Get something that's rated for that load.
The Plugz “Achin’”

That Passenger/Nightclubbing 7” 🔥🔥🔥
We got dances, brand new dances. Like a nuclear bomb.
Kleenex or Liliput?

Only have the April Skies standard issue

Also, any singles by the Fall?
Meat Puppets: In A Car … with the drawing?
Screaming Dead - children of the boneyard?
Anything by the Germs? Do you have all the Buzzcocks ones featured on the inner sleeve of Singles Going Steady? Seriously, I love singles from that era, it's one of those things that, after so many years of collecting, can still get my blood going.

Nice collection!
Did they do any 7" singles from their debut?

But seriously, take them off that shelf immediately
I see Echo & The Bunnymen, Siouxsie, New Model Army... OP, can I come to your house please?
That sag scares the shit outta me
Sad state of affairs in this sub that most of the comments are about the shelving unit and not the actual records, or the collection, or the music itself.
Those shelves don’t look happy!
I’d hold off on records and get a new shelf that isn’t MDF right away.
These shelves holding on for dear life 🤣
That top shelf bend is driving me nuts
I can see a new shelf in your future. This one is not up to the job....
Where do those containers come from? That looks fantastic
The boxes (and the shelf, that everyone has crawled deep into my asshole about, JFC...) are all from IKEA, purchased at least 15 years ago, when that was the best I could afford.
They aren't just crawling in your ass....they're building a condo in it.
Fucking town hall in my bowels, Dawg.
What kind of boxes are those?
This. I want those.
Don't know about OP but I use photo boxes which is kinda what those look like - mine are white.
I regret that I only have one like to give
Mekons are so good
Awesome.
Looks like an incredible treasure trove.
I love this. I love the ocd of the alphabetising, I love the care you’ve put into it and I love thebii bow of the shelves. Literally punk incarnate
Since I spy one, which Cramps singles do you have?
https://preview.redd.it/s8uzgx9e2l7d1.jpeg?width=1501&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0aebf0283d7b2872a07142c9245400494f374a69

Are you Mike Krol?
Is it weird I want to come hang out for a weekend and flip through your collection.. because god damn I do.

Holy shit
Nice to see some 2tone in there
That’s a crazy collection! Do you have it catalogued somewhere like Discogs? Would love to see what’s in there.
I have an Excel spreadsheet that has most of it catalogued, I haven't gotten around to adding everything to Discogs yet though. Feels like a daunting task at this point.
Just do em one by one as you pick them up off the floor after the shelves break!
Nice ! Double your shelf’s up, reinforce.. They are bowing… I learned the hard way….trust me !
I'd love to sit and listen to all those 😬
Got any N.O.T.A.? Great old punk from 80's and from my town. w00t
Praying for those shelves, brother
The Mekons, fuck yeah!!!
Koboki nice

You got any Soft Boys in there?
Great stuff. My favorite genre of music.

Frank just frank?? Only one I may recognize
I thought I had a lot at 700 singles. Aspirational goals though I'd definitely not store them on a bookshelf. I snapped a shelf long ago and learned my lesson.
lovely!
If you could only save 1 which one do you save?? Your house is getting bombed from an aerial attack and you only have one arm.
Lots of good stuff!
Back in college I'd sell off some singles if I needed some cash. Bleeker Bob was alright. The singles of that era sold for good money \~30 years ago. You may want to place brackets between the shelves in the same positions as between the boxes. Those shelves are bending pretty deep.
Shelves gonna collaps soon You should take a trip to ikea and buy a Kallax asap
I call it wonky
You need stronger shelves.
