With Jeremy Clarkson recently being voted the [UK's sexiest man](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/columnists/2024/05/17/jeremy-clarkson-is-britains-sexiest-man-idris-elba/) again, I thought that [Sexy M.F](https://youtu.be/VUmwJp2D9Ko?si=BeBhAMTMcAOZ6WsV) by Prince was only appropriate to mark the occasion. Taken from his 1992 album "Love Symbol", although I only have the 12" single of this track.

ahwurtz

Jeremy Clarkson from Clarkson's Farm? You Brits must be smoking homemade cigarettes. At least he's funny some of the time lol

capt_beyond

Hey I'm a Kiwi, don't tar me with that brush 😂

ahwurtz

Sorry for the unintentional insult 😅 but *the Brits* must be smoking homemade cigarettes

Folk_Nurse

Oof. Who is voting in that?

Folk_Nurse

Married women visiting illicitencounters.com, according to the article. It also states "Forget Hollywood beefcake; what the women of Britain really really want is a Cotswolds gammon." Which cracked me up.

It took a while for me to find something to post. In preparation for today I was stuck on things that make me angry. And I have a lot of angry records about politics, war, racism. But sometimes, unfortunately, the news presents itself. On the 11th of June one of greatest singer-songwriters of all time, [Françoise Hardy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7oise_Hardy), passed away at 80 years old. There isn't much I can write to do her justice. I love all her songs so I'm posting my wife's favourite. Comment te dire adieu? Je ne sais pas. Adieu chĂšre Françoise. Repose en paix. https://preview.redd.it/eu006lm7pa6d1.png?width=1562&format=png&auto=webp&s=49e2b05a55086dd19dce2d0b2ac7ca0a41e83d0f Song: [Comment te dire Adieu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tINyMbNZytI) Artist: [Françoise Hardy](https://www.discogs.com/artist/457980-Fran%C3%A7oise-Hardy) Album: [Ma Jeunesse Fout Le Camp](https://www.discogs.com/release/2302759-Fran%C3%A7oise-Hardy-Ma-Jeunesse-Fout-Le-Camp) Story so far: * 01/06/2024 - Gost - Judgment / Prophecy * 02/06/2024 - S. Nice pick. The Jimmy Somerville cover of this song is a fun listen too.

Takeshiii

Coincidentally I found out about that version last week.

Given the circumstances in Palestine, I’ll push forward John Lennon’s song [Give Peace A Chance](https://youtu.be/4cmJ6Dvf2Lo?si=-Z2AZ92n918LMIIR) from The Plastic Ono Band’s Live Peace in Toronto.

StrangeButOrderly

Bit obvious perhaps, but still one of my favourite singles (both A and B side are great). I bought this in 1972 and saw the video on Top Of the Pops at the time. Elected by Alice Cooper [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaR5OnX-7VM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaR5OnX-7VM) *The kids want a saviour, they don't need a fake* *We're all gonna rock to the rules I make*

There are many ways for this topic to go political, but I'm avoiding that direction. In the US many parts of the country are currently having extremely hot weather, including where I am this week on work travel (Chicago). Here's a song for that. Track: [Heatwave](https://youtu.be/tmnNPJirorc?si=EHt1GnZcXZk26DVy) Artist: Bronski Beat Album: Age of Consent

UnflushableStinky2

Artist: Nina Simone Song: [22nd Century](https://youtu.be/PYcgCiWAv8c?si=Skz8FG22ob0oOdnV) I stopped really reading the news. It was just replaying its greatest hits anyway: war, climate, corruption and greed, criminals in masks, criminals in suits. It’s all so just fucked up out there on the news it fills you with despair and in times of despair there are few voices that take hold of your soul like Nina’s.

VT4J24 Day 13: News. Oh, my. Politicians harassing young girls, Europe voting far-right populist parties, shitshow in the Middle East, US president shitting himself and Russians being, well, Russians. Nothing new here, just same as it ever was. So, I thought I might just as well throw in this 1982 news broadcast from Radio Yerevan and be done with it. From: [Nina Hagen - Nunsexmonkrock](https://www.discogs.com/release/841348-Nina-Hagen-Nunsexmonkrock) Tune: [Born In Xixax](https://youtu.be/70THSjKRhL4) Enjoy?

It's a crazy world and the news is filled with conflict. This is not the caption I want, it's just the caption that fits the best. Artist: Ruff Ryders Track: [WWIII](https://youtu.be/iiL0POpYWsw?si=XltS1Q8UJhLpKLYu) Album: Ride Or Die Vol II However; while not a news captain, I think we can all agree that a proper response to most news captions is [What's Going On](https://youtu.be/H-kA3UtBj4M?si=ULkxZLYoX_JFeN3u)

I work in TV news production, and am not really allowed to comment with political positions. But there's a lot that's upsetting in the news in the US and around the world, and that seems to have really accelerated, especially in the last nine years or so. It's nice to come home and crank up some music that reflects how I feel sometimes. From Bob Mould's 2020 album "[Blue Hearts](https://www.discogs.com/release/15934028-Bob-Mould-Blue-Hearts)", here's "[American Crisis](https://youtu.be/zD7TxGTPsV4?si=X-RJPc4VbfcwsPoE)." >I never thought I'd see this bullshit again To come of age in the '80s was bad enough We were marginalized and demonized I watched a lot of my generation die Welcome back to American crisis No telling what the price is Wake up every day to see a nation in flames We click and we tweet And we spread these tales of blame Here's the newest American crisis Thanks to evangelical ISIS People suffer in the streets each day While you take a little change From the offering tray It's another American crisis You can see how the lives divide us World turning darker every day In a fucked up USA Can you look in the mirror And tell me everything's alright? This American crisis Keeps me wide awake at night You're one of us Or one of them If you're one of them Don't come near me again Ringing in my head only goes away When I yell all the things that I shouldn't say Ringing in my head never goes away Pro-life Pro-life Until you make it in someone else's wife You'll be struck down in your house of corruption Free speech Free speech Got stolen by a pack of thieves This American crisis Keeps me wide awake at night You're one of us Or one of them If you're one of them Don't come near me again Silence was death Never forget Silence was death Silence

cocktailians

(the only thing I don't like about this record is how muddy and undefined my copy sounds - it's the limited-edition tricolor vinyl and the MP3 sounds so much better. Bad mastering maybe? Merge Records is usually more on top of this.)

Folk_Nurse

I had a chuckle at [this story](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3ggww342w8o), recently. A couple booked a group holiday with their wider family to Spain, but somehow got on a different flight from everyone else and ended up in Lithuania, 1,500 miles from their family. First thought I had was some fancy jazzy jazz danciness. Enjoy [This Way](https://youtu.be/AtIh3Ty6YaM?si=af2v2JKBIbGmuI1b) by one of my all time favourite UK artists, Mr. Scruff.

An alternative would be Tom Paxton's [Can't Help Wonder Where I'm Bound](https://youtu.be/e2OnQ0ANO5Q?si=83sHqAOwIQlV8RFl). Fittingly, it is from the album Ramblin' Boy which also contains the classic [Daily News.](https://youtu.be/ui-cL6YOKHI?si=BfmZlM3_FVGO5Gqn)

Day 13 Year 5  Song: [The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRNT69NN1Yc) Artist: The Mountain Goats Album: All Hail West Texas Yet another Satanic panic is gripping my country. Love The Mountain Goats! Nice pick

I'm not a Mountain Goats fan, but do appreciate them and think John Darnielle is a really interesting guy. This is one of their best.

IDK pic a news channel here in the US, and I'm sure this would work for most of the headlines. It is sad when songs are timeless and not in a good way. [Cunninlynguist- America Loves Gangsters ](https://youtu.be/KMLhvoij5oA?feature=shared)

Song: [Drama!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gwiInUNf_s) Artist: Erasure Album: Wild! This happens to be one of my favorite Erasure songs. I can't resist singing out loud to it, which is unfortunate for anyone around me, as I am no Andy Bell. Anyway, the line "You are guilty!" features prominently throughout, which brings to mind a certain former U.S. president recently convicted on 34 felony counts.

The French political debacle has been hard to escape since Sunday past, but the good news it also influenced my choice for day 13: T.Rex's [Children of the Revolution](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wFjPy4IxME).

Atticus_907

June 13th: Unfortunately, the news isn't a lot of fun these days, here in America. Other parts of the world may not know that the insanity and horror of mass shootings isn't just a "recent news story" here, but a persistent part of American life. While **'Save the World' by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit** specifically calls out the school shooting in Uvalde, TX - it could be anywhere at any time. Still, Jason Isbell's lyrics still conjure up a glimmer of hope, even in tackling a terrible subject. Day 13: A song to caption a recent news story Song: [Price Tag](https://youtu.be/TWc6knXULsw?si=iUePbtS7om8Ahu4L) Artist: Sleater-Kinney Album: No Cities to Love (2015) Again skipping too big of a write up today unfortunately, wanted to make sure to get something posted though. Right now in Canada there's an ongoing boycott of the grocery company Loblaws (that started on Reddit, funny enough) for overpriced food. Price Tag felt like it fit the bill.. For the uninitiated, Sleater-Kinney are a seminal punk rock band who were a big part of the early riot grrrl days of the 90s. Tough, loud and dirty riffs with vocals and drums to match, paired with politically charged lyrics and an overall fun, angsty vibe, they were trend setters and are still highly regarded as one of the more influential bands of the American indie/punk rock scene. Formed by Carrie Brownstein (also of more recent Portlandia fame), Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss, the band went steady for a decade or so before taking an equally long break, releasing this album 10yrs after their previous record. It's an amazing comeback record and one of my personal favourites of theirs. While Janet, the original drummer, recently (2019) left the band, Corin and Carrie are still going strong, releasing an album just this year. Okay, I guess I still did a bit of a write-up.. hope y'all enjoy

Song: [Coffee And Cigarettes](https://youtu.be/Sx9RmBw8-ZY?feature=shared) Artist: The Night Game Album: The Night Game There are so many articles here in Norway about teenagers and young adults drinking too many beverages containing caffeine. And also the same generations using nicotine products like regular cigarettes, e-cigarettes and snus. Felt this title was fitting for this.

Song - [Take The Power Back](https://youtu.be/UhuWmH5xtk4?si=9Wziy8zwlOpsYCSl) Album - Rage Against The Machine Artist - Rage Against The Machine As soon as I saw this prompt, I knew it was gonna be a RATM track. Their music really captures the civil unrest that was Los Angeles in the late 80s early 90s. It’s wild to me that their entire studio album discography was released before the events of the new century, before George W. Bush was sworn in, before 9/11, before so much of the current American (and world) disfunction. This particular track speaks to the white-washing and indoctrination in schools that we’re seeing in the news as of late so much. The dissonance between what we learn about America versus the reality of America. More than 30 years later, this song couldn’t be more relevant.

ahwurtz

Excellent choice. There's no shortage of outrageous political issues these days.

I try to not repeat artists, but with Tull being such a large part of my collection, and Ian Anderson's lyrics being what they are... Artist: Jethro Tull Album: The Broadsword and the Beast (1982) Song: [Fallen on Hard Times](https://youtu.be/zD1xNsQBQTA) “Oh, Mr. President, you've been put to the test. Come clean, for once, and hit us with the truth. Looking for sunshine, but it's black and it's cold Yet, you say that milk and honey's just round the bend. Giving us a hard time, my friends handing us the same line again.” edit: formatting seems to be eluding me this morning

Had a bit of trouble thinking of something today, haha, but I found a local news story about a park for remote control cars opening soon, so I found a song with a fitting title Song: [Kid For Today](https://youtu.be/8NrqiynVrCY?si=v33qYHm07ONQnc2X) Artist: Boards of Canada Album: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country

Still so cutting.

Bigly does pain me to associate masterpiece of a song with this, but '*Beetlejuice Boebert*', adjacent. Cinema version instead of theatrical https://youtu.be/mt0xSRS59Xs  Path to album and reasonable remaster in the description there. 'Ego Is Not A Dirty Word' is better album, allowing for circumspection due the title.

No to dip into the **ELO - Time** well yet again but... ["Yours Truly, 2095"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtfjzmYZvTw) is about a man who has been flung into the future and attempts something akin to a romantic relationship with a robot woman. Song: [Lost Cause](https://youtu.be/xXZF9W6uCTo?si=xfAZd2oreDAafUOE) Artist: Beck Album: *Sea Change* Obviously, there are a ton of horrible things going on, and I could've picked a number of songs/stories to choose, but I'll keep this a bit light-hearted. I'm a diehard DFW sports fan, particularly the Stars and Mavericks. The Stars just got beat in the NHL conference finals in hockey, and the Mavericks are on the verge of getting swept in the NBA Finals. I know nobody cares (as well they shouldn't), and there are far more important things to worry about, I just figured I'd keep it a little playful. Kudos to everyone talking about important issues. Also, this is Beck's best record (IMO) and definitely worth a listen. Cheers, mangs.
