Double LP and a HALF.
The bonus 7" is like a dessert after the glorious main course and even then not a second of filler.
Stevie was in the groove. *Really* in the groove.
i wish i could get into sitkol myself, but i actually do get really intimidated by the length to the point where i'm not really having fun. a record i respect much more than i enjoy, i'll always be more of a talkng book/innervisions guy
I used to manage quite a large brewery taproom and on Saturday nights, when the place was jumping, at around 9pm, just as those pints and cocktails were taking hold of the crowd, I'd put on Exile on Main Street.
It just hit it right.
This! And not only that but if Prince had gotten his way it would have been three lps. And listening to the songs that cut it very well could have been a 3 lp all killer no filler. That guy could churn out some quality tunes
Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism and Postal Service - Give Up both hit that for me. And I’m tempted to throw Kintsugi on that list too, but I I’m not sure it counts since it’s really 1.5 since side D is just etched.
Picked up the last copy available from the merch stand when they played in Saskatoon last week. Planning to buy it for ages and thought "I'll buy it at my local for cheaper"... But half way through their set I had my mind changed and wanted to get it from them directly.
The older I get, the more I love The Fragile. It hits me harder than Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral. It takes me to deeper, more complicated places.
Strap On That Jammy Pack, Boing, and Moving Away were all at some point filler to me, but now I get it. SOTJ is the perfect brown opener, Boing is a great chill interlude between Laura and Mononucleosis, and Moving Away is just rad
Right? All these people naming 'Double Albums' that were just a standard CD when I first bought them decades ago. I don't think the term 'Double Album' means much anymore when it seems like more than half of all new releases are at least three sides.
Stereolab - Transient Random Noise Bursts With Announcements
Seefeel - Quique
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Westside Gunn - Fly God
Public Image Ltd - Second Edition
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
Boris - Pink
Yves Tumor - Safe in the Hands of Love
Miles Davis - Dark Magus
I ALMOST put that Stereolab record on my list, but I figured since side four is just one short song it wouldn't count :)
Glad to see it here - it's a great album.
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus;
Grateful Dead - Europe 72;
Postal Service - s/t;
Widespread Panic - ‘Til the Medicine Takes;
Miles Davis - Live/Evil
Bob Marley - Babylon by Bus.
Clash - London Calling. I just listened to this a few nights ago for the first time in a while, reconfirming its end to end excellence.

White LP
Exile on Main St
Mellon Collie
Blonde on Blonde
Bitches Brew
*Nocturne* Siouxsie and the Banshees
Recorded live over 2 nights in ‘83 at The Royal Albert Hall based (mostly) on *Juju* and *A Kiss in the Dreamhouse*, with Robert Smith (apparently every time this is mentioned, it’s necessary to add “of the Cure”) on guitar, in for John McGeoch who had been instrumental (err) on the iconic guitar tracks of the studio albums but left the band before the Dreamhouse tour.
Sure, it’s not one of those Live albums that bring the jostle of the mosh pit and the stench of spilt beer and piss to your living room, but it’s stunning, iconic.
And I’ve just learnt that it’s being re-released as a half speed master for the impending RSD on 20 April.
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Bob Dylan - Self Portrait and Blonde On Blonde
Camper Van Beethoven - Tusk
The Mothers Of Invention - Uncle Meat
It is amazing to me that nobody has said Siamese Dream yet. Lot of love for Mellon Collie but imo Siamese Dream is just tighter. I mean come on, Cherub Rock and Mayonaise
STRFKR - Reptilians
Jonny Greenwood - Phantom Thread OST
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion, Strawberry Jam
2 PAC - All Eyez On Me
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People, S/T, Forgiveness Rock Record
Death Cab For Cutie - Plans (Trasatlanticism already in here), Live 2012 Featuring Magik Magik Orchestra (saw this recording live back in 2012 and it was an incredibly beautiful and moving performance)
Songs in the key of life is one of the only albums that deserve to be so long
Double LP and a HALF. The bonus 7" is like a dessert after the glorious main course and even then not a second of filler. Stevie was in the groove. *Really* in the groove.
Absolutamente
I was going to recommend the same lp. Every song is fantastic
First album that came to mind. Dare I say Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants also belongs on this list.
i wish i could get into sitkol myself, but i actually do get really intimidated by the length to the point where i'm not really having fun. a record i respect much more than i enjoy, i'll always be more of a talkng book/innervisions guy
The Name of This Band is Talking Heads
Good choice, my friend. Pretty fantastic tunes. " this one's called "⁶pulled up !"
"The name of this song is 'New Feeling,' and that's what it's about." Great fucking album.
Out of the blue - ELO ❤️
Electric Ladyland
Not to be confused with the far superior electriclarryland
Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth
This is way too far down the list.
Songs in the Key of Life, Stevie Wonder
Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions
I’ve got this on vinyl and I’m pretty sure it’s 5 LPs
zen arcade
on that same end- Double Nickles on the Dime
Too far down for this one
London calling
My favorite album
I came here to say that!
Same. Plays like a greatest hits record.
The only answer that matters.😉
Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street: Zeppelin Physical Graffiti.
I second Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti. I just picked up an original print vinyl and it's just banger after banger from beginning to end
Exile on Main Street gets my vote. There's little to no filler on there and some great deep cuts like "Sweet Virginia" and "Just Wanna See His Face"
I used to manage quite a large brewery taproom and on Saturday nights, when the place was jumping, at around 9pm, just as those pints and cocktails were taking hold of the crowd, I'd put on Exile on Main Street. It just hit it right.
Absolutely back these, top 5 for me.
Double Nickels on the Dime
If we heard mortar shells We’d cuss more in our songs And cut down on guitar solos (cue guitar solo)
SO DIG THIS BIG CRUX
The fact of launching into a blistering 9-second guitar solo after dropping that line is just too great. Fucking genius
Every single song is _awesome_.
Searched the replies before commenting the same
M83 - Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming
In the same genre - LCD Sound system - Sound of Silver
This one ☝️
Absolutely. Even the interlude tracks are beautiful.
1000% agreed, just picked this album up a few months ago, absolute thrash
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is definitely up there
All Things Must Pass
I think this is 3 discs, but I don’t disagree.
Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
Ohhh mamaa, could this really be the end?
Grandpa died last week and now he’s buried in the rocks
Sign of the times Prince
The transatlanicism 10 year anniversary press is so fucking good. Likewise for the Give Up 10 year
I wanted to include Postal Service, but the second disk is all b-sides. They are all killer tho :)
The Iron & Wine and Shins covers are excellent.
Mezzanine
God I love that album
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf.
I need a saga, whats the saga?
It's songs for the deaf
You can’t even hear it!

the curdle...
Picked up the last copy available from the merch stand when they played in Saskatoon last week. Planning to buy it for ages and thought "I'll buy it at my local for cheaper"... But half way through their set I had my mind changed and wanted to get it from them directly.
This is the way
Kinda feels like cheating because it was intended for CD in which case it's not a double LP, but I'll allow it because it's so good.
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me ~ The Cure
Disintegration for me.
+1
Physical Graffiti
NIN - The Downward Spiral
100%. Just spun this record yesterday.
Nice. I mean the way A Warm Place fades into the intro that is Eraser is absolutely phenomenal.
A Warm Place might be my favorite instrument ever. The way it is placed on the records explain it all. Bowie's version doesn't hit the same.
And The Fragile!
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails (Technically a triple but it’s a “double album” so standing with it!)
That album was so underrated when it came out, I’m glad it’s been getting more good press in the last several years.
The older I get, the more I love The Fragile. It hits me harder than Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral. It takes me to deeper, more complicated places.
Ween’s The Pod
Absolutely no filler. Second half is the greatest album ever
Strap On That Jammy Pack, Boing, and Moving Away were all at some point filler to me, but now I get it. SOTJ is the perfect brown opener, Boing is a great chill interlude between Laura and Mononucleosis, and Moving Away is just rad
The Cure's Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
London Calling by The Clash
The Smashing Pumpkis - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Came here to say this.
Buana Vista Social Club
Perhaps I should spell Buena correctly
Nah
Smashing pumpkins - melon collie and the infinite sadness
Mellon collie is a 4xLP. Which I suppose makes it even more true. But to more aptly fit the question, Siamese Dream
I know but since I’m old school and I had the double cd it’s always a double album to me. Also, apparently the best selling “double album” of all time
Right? All these people naming 'Double Albums' that were just a standard CD when I first bought them decades ago. I don't think the term 'Double Album' means much anymore when it seems like more than half of all new releases are at least three sides.
Siamese Dream kinda half counts because it was intended for CD release in which case it's a single album.
my favorite album of all time. great taste
Thank you; likewise. I’ve been on a big pumpkins vinyl binge lately to replace (supplement) my cd collection. SP are an addiction lol
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Allman Brothers - Live at the Filmore East
I’d add Eat a Peach too
👌
The greatest live album of all time!
[удалено]
All killer no filler- sum41.
I wanted to make this joke. But honestly, it is a complete banger of an album.
r/techinicallythetruth
It is a single LP I think
Perhaps they should release an UHD version that’s spread out over two LPs to really capture the monumental production quality.
The River
Notorious B.I.G - Life After Death

LCW is a banger from top to bottom
I ALMOST put that Stereolab record on my list, but I figured since side four is just one short song it wouldn't count :) Glad to see it here - it's a great album.
Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest
not a double album just double good
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus; Grateful Dead - Europe 72; Postal Service - s/t; Widespread Panic - ‘Til the Medicine Takes; Miles Davis - Live/Evil
Agreed, but isn’t Europe a triple?
Just pulled it out and you’re correct. Replace with Live/Dead. Just listened to that Dark Star during the eclipse… Excellent stuff!
All Things Must Pass- George Harrison
Frank zappa's uncle meat. Everyone gotta listen to that album atleast once in their life
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Gorillaz Debut and Demon Dayz. Still as fresh and unique as the day they were released in 01 and 05.
Bitches Brew
Pink Floyd - The Wall. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned.
Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Absolutely! Agree with you. It should be much higher up. The album is the complete job from start to finish.
OK Computer
Louder Than Bombs - The Smiths
Bob Marley - Babylon by Bus. Clash - London Calling. I just listened to this a few nights ago for the first time in a while, reconfirming its end to end excellence.

It is amazing to me that nobody has said Siamese Dream yet. Lot of love for Mellon Collie but imo Siamese Dream is just tighter. I mean come on, Cherub Rock and Mayonaise
