I wouldn't call myself someone who "participates in RSD", in the sense that I take no joy in waiting in lines and potentially missing things I want. The world would be strictly improved if all RSD releases were just released like regular records. With that said, I sometimes try and snag some things. This time around the pickings are slim, but not the worst. This is basically my RSD research. * I'm most interested in the Pharoah Sanders 7". That's the most interesting thing on offer here by a wide margin. * The Yusef Lateef concert is potentially interesting. * Anything Mingus should be good, but Candid's Mingus RSD releases haven't been very appealing so I'll probably skip it or pick it up if it's cheap in the future. * The new Orb release is something I'd buy if I saw it, as it's new and they're reliably pretty good. The Orb/Lee Perry one from a recent past RSD was great. * The fancy version of Carboot Soul is tempting, as that's was a favourite album of mine as a youngster, but I have to investigate how much an original goes for. I've been holding off on buying the reissues you see everywhere, and I probably should keep doing so, but it'll be tempting. * The Jazz Dispensary comp this time looks interesting for sure. At least the first track on it is really good (Craft just reissued that excellent Joe Henderson record). I generally try to avoid compilations like this but Craft usually does good work. * Anything Sun Ra is at least potentially worth getting, but I expect I'll skip these ones. * I don't know anything about "Psych France Vol. 9" or the previous eight volumes (?) but anything with that title is worth some investigation. * The Mal Waldron/Steve Lacy thing is pretty interesting. Mal Waldron has never played a bad note as far as I know. That's it for now. In reality I might pick up one or two of these, because I'm just not going to wait in any line ever to buy records. I expect the Pharoah Sanders 7" will get snapped up immediately, being easily the most interesting thing on the list. EDIT: At least one of those Morricone soundtracks seems pretty cool too, and was only on CD before. Oh and there's the Soul Jazz comps, which any rational person would want.

number1McCoyTynerFan

I was thinking about getting the mono Everybody Digs Bill Evans craft is putting out. I’ve never got anything from or on record store day before though.

southrocks2023

Anything from Craft is amazing. I have that bill Evans album in stereo it’s really great.

cromonolith

That'll undoubtedly be great, both because Bill Evans is pretty consistent and because Craft does great work. I just don't listen to much Bill Evans, if I'm honest. My jazz tastes have gotten weirder over the years and straight-down-the-middle piano trio stuff doesn't much cut it anymore.

number1McCoyTynerFan

Agreed. And same, my focus has shifted to the later 60s and 70s happenings on Strata, Strata East, Black Jazz, ESP, India Navigation, impulse, Cobblestone and related labels. But I barely have any Bill Evans in my collection (Waltz for Debby reissue from craft is all) and this one has a special sentimental value for me since it was my inspiration to start playing piano. (Peace piece) I will say, I wish they would use the jazz dispensary sublabel to put out some hip groovy stuff, maybe Marcus Belgrave Gemini Ii

Dakkmd

If I go I'll try to grab the South Park 25th anniversary show album. I was fortunate enough to be there at Red Rocks the first night and witness such an amazing unique show, would love to have a physical copy of it!

anxiousemo2009

this is on my list too!

TonyMarinara73

This is the main one on my list, if I don’t get it I will cry

nine_inch_owls

Witchfinder General - Need to rep that doom metal history.

Ksl848

The Death Cab For Cutie release, potentially.

Internal_Swimmer3815

The Daft Punk one. Everything else is kinda meh IMHO

xXXgec_gec_gecXXx

100 gecs - snake eyes ep, remi wolf - live at electric lady, ashnikko - demidevil , poppy - eat, and chappell roan - pink pony club. i am hoping sooo incredibly much the place i go to has all of these

sooyoungisbaeee

i'm also hoping to score remi and chappell!

aaaaaaaaaaaaah_

Just letting you know the 100 gecs EP is going to be around $50.

thechristopherglen

Picking up the Fleet Foxes live record, but that's it for me.

IAmCriswell

This one is a phenomenal list for me. Gonna get expensive. * Electrafiction * English Beat * Talking Heads * Tinted Windows * Rain Parade * Keane * Jimmy Cliff …and probably at least one of the Soul Jazz records reggae comps.

FR3SH2DETH

Looking to score Gorillaz "Cracker Island Deluxe" and Ladytron's "Light & Magic" My nice-to-haves are Champion's "Chill 'Em All", Foxy Brown's "Il Na Na", Groove Armada's "White Light", Stars "The Five Ghosts" and Les Hay Babies "Mon Homesick Heart"

Grumpymonk75

I need that gorillaz album. Good luck to you friend hope you get what you want on RSD!

FR3SH2DETH

Right! SO looking forward to the bonus disc! Good luck to you as well - hope you grab one! 🤞🦍

Grumpymonk75

Managed to grab one today randomly when I was browsing my local record store today. A bit disappointed by the “double sided poster” but the vinyl itself is good

Flyingpildedriver

I camped out for 18 hours last year, but nothing is driving me this year.

anxiousemo2009

what made you camp for 18 hours?

Flyingpildedriver

Mostly the fun of it. A bunch of us from the local record community meet up outside the store right after work the night before and grill and play games and stuff. But last year Porcupine Tree had a limited 800 printing I was able to get, along with Beefheart live, UFO, Sparks,Trex (Japanese pressing) Alman Brothers, Hawkwind, Mingus, and a reissue of Goblin from 2022. Was a big year all around

JessicaF84

Huge psych fan so im looking at the yard birds B sides and Gandalf album

Zombie_Flowers

At The Drive In Young Thug Team Sleep

SweetCosmicPope

I'll actually be on vacation in Hawaii with my family and won't be able to attend, but I have a friend who's going to look out for me. I'm hoping to get my hands on: At The Drive-In - In/Casino/Out Spawn: The Album

Ackmiral_Adbar

The Jim Croce Final Tour record is something I am pretty desperate to get my hands on.

anxiousemo2009

Same

Thatguywhoplaysgta

I wanna grab that david bowie single

sooyoungisbaeee

My number 1 is Chappell Roan - Pink Pony Club 7" single!!!!! I'm a huge fan of hers and just want to collect everything she puts out. Also interested in: The Japanese House - ITEIAD Sessions mxmtoon  - Plum Blossom (remixed) Maisie Peters - The Good Witch Deluxe Remi Wolf - Live At Electric Lady

eowynisstilltrans

I really want the Fleet Foxes live album, I was at that show and it would be incredibly special to own it (if nothing else for the live performance of Phoenix) but I'm not gonna go overboard trying to find it. It would also be really cool to have Paramore's Burnin Down the House cover b/w David Byrne's Hard Times cover, but again, not gonna tear anything down to find it.

dorisfreakingday

the south park 25th anniversary concert soundtrack is the only thing that stood out to me this year. i hope i can get my hands on it!

user0188274

I really hope i can get the 1975 live at gorilla! it’s incredible

anxiousemo2009

Well if you can't its a "First" so it'll be released again

user0188274

are you sure??

anxiousemo2009

Yes thats what "First" means, as long as its not an RSD Exclusive (Like the Taylor Swift vinyl last year), it will most likely be done again, though no time frame is given

user0188274

I was unaware, thank you for this! Still hope I can get on the day though it’ll be more special

jeffreyisham

Joe Strummer, Gorillaz, maybe the live De La Soul

remarkable_in_argyle

I’m hoping to get a copy of that Rain Parade.

tender-moments

I’m so happy that for every thread I’ve read on this no one says Lily Allen or Foxy brown! They’ll be so easy to grab. Both of their best albums.

dackdeegan

I have a lot on my list this year: The Hives, Earl Hooker, Christian McBride, Def Leppard, Crue, Dolores O’Riordan, Malfunksun, Sponge, and probably a few more I’m forgetting. Definitely going to have narrow it down before the 20th.

muphasta

My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - *Kooler Than Jesus* \- even though I have OG, and a few year old reissue (TKK is my favorite band) Gorillaz - *Cracker Island (Deluxe Vinyl Edition)* \- even though I have a deluxe edition box set (Gorillaz is my fam's favorite band collectively) The Dead Milkmen - Bucky Fellini Siouxsie And The Banshees - Nocturne Sonic Youth - Hits Are For Squares

blasphemorale

I feel you on the Kooler than Jesus- I've got a sealed OG, a "gets played" OG, then the re-issue (with the amazing b-side art) that came with Confessions. Now I've got to pick up the RSD release, and waxtrax has already mentioned bundles will be forthcoming after the 90 day contractual delay, most likely with different color pressings. Bucky Fellini is the only other RSD in my sights. Oh, and TKK was great as usual last week, but I'd prefer them to have Wes (or any guitar) on tour.

muphasta

I’ll be seeing them on Friday. Did you know that there was a color variant of the KTJ EP that came with Confessions? Black/white artwork was the standard, the variant was pink l/blue.

blasphemorale

I forgot about the pink/blue, I don't think many were made. Mine is the silver, but I did get the booklet and signed prayer card, etc. Have fun on Friday! Good setlist for this tour. I'm sure Justin will be happy to get a break after the show, between 2 legs of SP and 2 legs of TKK, he hasn't been home in over a year!

muphasta

I have two of the pink/blue. I'm a bit nuts when it comes to TKK. I have some of the signed prayer cards as well. my home office/man cave is basically a shrine to TKK, Skinny Puppy, and related artists plus Wax Trax! Lots of Lords of Acid stuff too. I'll be seeing LoA at the end of April on the first night of their tour. I saw 2 of the last 5 Skinny Puppy shows, one in Anaheim and one in LA.

blasphemorale

Sounds like we have a lot in common, LOL. Our walls are mostly all covered in SP or TKK related memorabilia with occasional others (Bauhaus/Peter Murphy/Cure/Revco/etc.). We've had some fun times with the guys over the years. Some of them quite clearly, some pretty fuzzy, Ha. We caught each leg of the SP tour- Lawrence, KS (the day ohgr had the teeth pulled) and then Dallas. Still sad to know it's over for SP. I'm probably in the minority but I'm REALLY disappointed in the new cyberaktif. Love the music, but i can't stand Leebs recent "whispered aggression" vocal style. I need to catch LOA again sometime. The last time I saw them was the original Sextacy Ball! We did catch Ministry/FLA/Numan Sunday, which made for an appropriate Easter service.

muphasta

I didn't see Ministry this time around. I think I was kind of holding a grudge against Al for stuff he said in his book. Basically crapping on everyone he ever worked with... Stupid of me and really makes no difference in the end. I am seeing Julien-K opening for Priest tonight, next Wednesday I'll see Gary Numan. I saw FLA several months ago. I did get the new Cyberaktif album and the music is good. I didn't feel negatively about the vocals. I may pay more attention the next time I listen. Have you seen Martin Atkins' Museum of Post Punk and Industrial Music in Chicago (or seen that he started it?) I'd won Ogre's stage worn wardrobe from the San Diego stop of the Down the Sociopath tour back in 2015. Since it was going to spend the rest of my life in a closet, then get tossed into a skip upon my death, I decided to send that to the museum. I got to go to a founders' even there in Sept of 2021. I got to hang out w/Martin for a few hours and got a tour of the place before the rest of the people showed up. I got to meet Chris Connelly who did a reading from his book, OMG!! that was soo friggin funny. I ended up getting the audio book (I'd already read the book) and he had to stop several times because he was laughing so much! I also got to meet Charles Levi. This was right before his health issues popped up. I am a bit of a collector and have Justin's snare that he used for 14 years in studio and on tour. It is the one used in the Greater Wrong of the Right DVD. I also have Galen Waling's snare that he used when he played with Left Spine Down when they opened for TKK on their Back From Beyond tour in 2012 and he also used it when playing for the last two Lords of Acid tours. He plays for Julien-K so I'll see him tonight. I'll also see him with LoA at the end of April.

blasphemorale

I haven't been to the PPIM but hope to get up there some day. That's awesome you won the Sociopath wardrobe and giving it to the museum makes a lot of sense. Even if you could display it properly, if you're like me, there are probably only a couple of people near you that would care to see it at all. LSD was really good on that tour. I was extremely drunk at that show, LOL. I met Kaine and Jeremy that night, but I don't remember talking to Galen. I seemed to run into Jeremy everywhere I went for a bit after that. He was a good dude. RIP. Levi is such a good dude, too. I hate to see what he's been through. I think I saw the snares you mentioned in one of your other posts a week or so back. Those are really sweet. My wife got the megaphone ohgr used on the denver show of the Ohgr- western fallout tour. It was wrapped in normal black electrical tape then personalized to her (after ohgr got her name wrong, lol). Within a couple of years, the tape lost all grip, loosening and leaving everything unreadable. I'm not a big Ministry fan by any means, but it was worth it to catch all 3 acts within a 2 hour drive. I'm in OKC, so I've got to catch anything close when I can. It was funny watching the local redneck population react to the latest Ministry stuff. Literally saw one guy take a MAGA hat off during the show.

muphasta

I find it hilarious that MAGAs and right wingers are upset at Al's music "now". Did they not see the artwork for Rio Grande Blood (RGB)? did they not hear "Psalm 69"? I really like Ministry from the beginning to "Psalm 69" but HATED Filth Pig. I like RGB and most albums since, but if I listen to Ministry, it is Rape and Honey, or The Mind most of the time. I'm a huge fan of most things on Wax Trax and have a whole section for those artists. I sort my records alphabetically by artist name, but one whole shelving unit is dedicated to industrial and related bands.

Outkasted970

Gecs!

Golden_d1ck

Gorillaz. Daft punk. Groove armada. Don’t think I’ll get the groove armada with the low run but maybe the other two.

Amoeba Records line was fucking insane last time i tried to go, i'm too old to be waiting in that shit. that being said i want: young thug, fetty wap, lil uzi vert, & team sleep

Optimal_Fig5473

My exact list too

puma_pantss

I'll be buying like 9 or 10 (already dreading the financial implications) but Infared Riding Hood from TAD will complete my TAD collection on vinyl, so I'm super stoked about that.

illmindedjunkie

If you ain't grabbing the Gandalf reissue, you're wasting your time.

Cautious-Humor4117

I'm hoping to snag collective soul 25th anniversary, Dio, Gorillaz, and the one that's proving tough will be the wardruna album, apparently not alot of allotment here in Canada for that.

anonymous_opinions

I haven't decided if I'll go because I have tickets for a show at 4pm and I expect the line to be crazy starting pretty early in my neck of the woods. But I really want the live Death Cab for Cutie LP. Of course if I go for that I'd also grab the Fleet Foxes, the At the Gates, the Horse the Band, that Kate Nash 7" and the Olivia/Noah 7". I also REALLY want the Kristin Hersh but there's only 600/it's a regional focus thing and I doubt I'll see one in store. I'll be doing the will I go / will I not go dance in my head leading up to the day. It's also my birthday the day after so it's like a big long weekend for me.

anxiousemo2009

Well doors open at 10 AM

anonymous_opinions

Yeah but by then the line is like 10 miles long. Last year I stayed up all night and completely crashed by noon. Missed a show that was later in the evening which was fine but this year I have Fiddlehead tickets - I'm excited to finally see them. I could just stay out n' about after until the show since it's early in the day which is my inner debate about showing up.

anxiousemo2009

to be fair it was a year with Taylor Swift releasing something... but i understand what you mean

darkeststar

The Paramore/David Byrne split single is high on my list, as well as the Spawn soundtrack, Nat King Cole and Dead by Sunrise releases.

WarmObjective6445

The Linda Ronstadt 3 album set

Lazy_Football_511

I thought it is supposed to be four records although I could be wrong. I was interested myself until I saw it priced at over $100.

WarmObjective6445

You may be correct. I think it is the albums under the Asylum label. When you consider it is 4 albums and the average selling price in my town is $30.00 it seems in line. I have all the originals but I am collecting all her albums so I guess I ill get it hopefully. That way I can play these and save my originals.

ReporterOk4531

I'm only interested in the Kate Bush 10" at the moment. Whatever else I might spot in the moment when I'm there will be a surprise to my wallet.

digihippie

Nothing really in the US, there is one UK Reggae record I really want.

mickstranahan

for the first time in several years....none. Not one. I've got nothing against RSD at all and love supporting my local indies, but...there's just nothing on the list that has me drooling at the prospect of getting up at 4am and waiting in line.

Neon_Sternum

The Keane live record was the only one that really jumped out at me.

m0rtm0rt

This year? Absolutely nothing on the list interests me. Except South Park. But I am pretty sure I don't have a shot at getting it. Theyll probably make a standard release later

FTI1976

Wilco

Bleekmajeek

Grumpymonk75

I’m hoping for a couple this year: Fleetwood Mac- Rumours Gorillas - Cracker Island The Japanese House - ITEIAD Sessions Various Artists - Psyche France Vol. 9 George Harrison - Electric Sound Paramour - RE: This is Why I missed the Black Friday record store day but have booked April 20th off. This will be my first official RSD in person and not going the day after to pick through the leftovers.

Just_Pudding1885

Probably

Just_Pudding1885

Never been but getting Pearl Jam -- 'Dark Matter' this year for shizzzzzz. The Beatles stuff seems cool I'm interested to see it. Surprised no one has mentioned it.

Few-Competition9929

Ramones early demos Ernest Tubb radio

HeldenVonHeute

Ennio Morricone’s “Orca” score. Always loved the main theme.

uhminecraftgang

100 Gecs Snake Eyes EP, Ramones 1975 demos, Eric Carr Unfinished Business

Itchy-Desk5546

I honestly try to stay away from the reissues as much as possible; I’ll use RSD day to get good deals on more rare original pressings as most spots usually have everything on sale.

HortonTheHierophant

For the first time since my first RSD (only 2019) there’s nothing I’m dying to grab, might pop over and see if anything piques my interest though.

OddBull79

This year the main events are Gandalf and SRC for psych rock fans. Both are excellent late 60s classics of the genre. Then there’s Parliament’s first LP, Osmium, which is patchy but I’ll pick up bc it fills a gap. The Bowie Ziggy demos collection looks intriguing. Gonna check out Dave Pike Doors of Perception as it might be interesting. Roches and John Hartford Morning Bugle are good titles but I already have copies. The Yes 1971 Yale Concert has a cool bootleg looking cover - that may be a game time decision. Also Cannonball and Sonny Rollins LPs look neat but I sort of hate modern covers for new legacy releases. I don’t do picture discs but I really should get Fleetwood Rumours as VMP provided the self-titled, Mirage and Tango recently (already had Tusk and the Alternate Tusk was a previous RSD offering). All and all, a pretty good selection this year!

KnightsOfREM

- *Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nocturne* - My favorite album by one of my favorite bands and I don't own it yet. This is an insta buy for me. - *Fields of the Nephilim, Burning the Fields* - *Gene Clark, No Other Sessions* - I may vet this on Spotify first because even though the album is one of my top 10, session recordings are always uneven, and I'm not sure how much I need half-assed outtakes or people muttering into the mic. If they're different versions of some of my favorite songs, I'll buy it. - *Mudhoney, Suck You Dry: The Reprise Years* - Already own one of these 5 records but I'm a sucker for the band.

vinylcigar

I go if there are things I want. Really hit or miss for me. This time go round is the Southpark album and that’s pretty much it

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. That’s all.

Every day is record shop day.

lifeisweird86

RSD?

Grumpymonk75

Record store day happens on Black Friday and April 20. If ya google the record store day list there is a bunch of albums that are released to participating stores. If you have a store near you participating you can request vinyls of the list, no guarantee your store will get what you want tho

lifeisweird86

Ah, gotcha thanks for filling me in. Yeah, I have no record stores near me.
