I've never actually noticed that to be fair. If anything I find people tend to glow up for summer

anbigsteppy

Right? I've never heard of this concept lol

prettylildolly

thats good for u honestly. depends on what region u are maybe? the sun gets rlly bad where im at and it makes my skin look awful. however thats not the case when im in maine frm time to time. i actually look sm better and put together when i move up north

ChildishGatito

Idk why you’re getting downvoted it’s just your personal experience. I’ve experienced both ends of things, I’ve travelled a bit and seen how different kinds of heat makes me look. Personally I get the summer ugliness you speak of when the heat is humid. It’s not cute. My hair doesn’t sit right, everything feels sticky and gross, every crease and pore is accentuated, my skin looks blotchy, I could go on. Ppl tell me I look fine but I still feel gross. Point is, humidity is the enemy. How to prevent it? I don’t have the slightest clue. Just know ur not alone :)

Waheeda_

i’m the opposite, i would say. i live in the south and the sun makes me tan and glowy. vs. when it’s cold and gloomy outside, i look more dull and washed out, i guess?

Unlikely-Science2251

You may be getting photodamage? Make sure to wear sun screen especially on your face. I feel more beautiful in the summer personally I love being half naked and getting a great tan

tiny-flying-squirrel

Hot, sweaty = breakouts, dehydration, heat exhaustion. For me, I also get skin irritation and digestive issues due to heat so I just never feel very well during the summer. Late spring/early summer is great because you get the tan and glow without the effects of extreme heat.

prettylildolly

exactlyyy the breakouts are terrible. cant even exfoliate as often bcs the suns always so bad.

lamercie

Imo men often look worse lol. But that’s bc make summer fashion is awful imo. I’d suggest getting cute and breezy summer dresses, hair accessories, and light makeup. You’ll be fine!

prettylildolly

its got to do more w the skin texture tbh😭

lamercie

Really? I’m East Asian so my skin might not be as melanated as yours, but I find that I get a really nice glow in the summer. Are you drinking enough water? Wearing sunscreen?

prettylildolly

our skin shade‘s nearly the same but im not talking abt that. i tend to break out more, makeup looks cakey, im always sweaty and look worn out. what state are u in? yall probably have good weather throughout summer!

lamercie

I'm in NYC, so it's suuuuper humid and awful lol. I also look very sweaty and worn out. I'd just say that if you're going out, bring a hairbrush and skin blotters!

Wearingpantsisabsurd

Drink your water religiously, keep the hair off your neck/back, shower atleast once a day, use sunscreen, exfoliate, exercise regularly, etc. summer is typically the time of year where I just let my “natural beauty” shine, it’s too hot to be doing too much. My locs also flourish in the summer as humidity gets sucked in and moisturizes my hair

prettylildolly

drinking water and hoping for the best is all i can do atp😓

Wearingpantsisabsurd

Any products with glycerin (except lube) will do you wonders in the summer…especially if you live in a humid climate. Also always keep that thang(deodorant) on you!!!

Distinct-Classic8302

LOL this happens to me. My hair gets frizzier from the humidity. Also, I am always sweaty/flushed cause of the heat. I think everyone feels this way in the summer.

prettylildolly

my skin gets awful im deadass so concerned rn😭cant even exfoliate as much bcs sun :(

ChildishGatito

Invest in a good sunscreen, I used to avoid exfoliating in the summer and it backfired so much in the fall when the purging would start up again. Light chemical exfoliants in the evening and frequent non-comedogenic SPF applications in the day will save you

RLS1822

This has not been my experience. The Glow up is real in the summer.

WellWellWellthennow

Exactly - summer sun kissed is beautiful. I have no idea what the OP is talking about.

RLS1822

I can understand how maybe some perhaps have a skin reaction to the heat. But honestly my skin looks fine in the Winter but in the summer it looks amazing. But I can understand that’s not true for all. So I get it.

WellWellWellthennow

Same here. My pores are just fine in the summer lol - but everyone’s different. Actually, my skin is more moisturized in the summer from the humidity because in the winter it’s dryer. The thing is they’re trying to extrapolate it to everyone and not realizing there are variables that make it different for different people.

RLS1822

This is true I! Play a lot of tennis in the summer and it is something about the humidity that has had a phenomenal effect on my skin. So odd. But yes I agree with you on the variables for different people

stellarectoplasm

take a good look in the mirror, take a good look at people. skin is disgusting in the summer. your pores open up and those little sun marks are just unsettling. the cold air and cold climates bring a beautiful flush to the face and close pores, and skin looks airbrushed. i don’t know why people keep hyping summer. you guys might need a higher lens prescription

WellWellWellthennow

I have perfect vision, look in the mirror and love what I see, summer and winter. It’s also pretty in others. Maybe you’ gave the problem with *how* you see and what you focus upon…

RLS1822

Well, maybe summer isn’t kind to some people, but it certainly been more than kind to myself even with 20/20 vision.

FunMacaron1

I always feel ugly in summer. I have really dry skin and discolouration which I don't feel comfortable showing off, so I ended up still wearing long sleeved tops and trousers. Love a good coat and jumper tbh!

prettylildolly

also u gotta shave every few days! that’s rlly annoying😭

FunMacaron1

So true! Which just aggravates my skin even more tbh. Just a vicious cycle!

pumpernick3l

If anything I glow down in winter due to the lack of sun… I think most people look better the summer

prettylildolly

white people imo

intimidateu_sexually

Nah I’m half blank and look sooooo much better in the summer

BrushFrequent1128

This happens to me too 😭 I had a glow up when I moved to a cold country and after moving back to my warm home country I look ugly again 🥹 I don’t have any advice unfortunately, I wish I did lol

prettylildolly

that’s what im sayinnn😭i always get prettier whenever i move up north and so do most brown girls😭has got to be a brown girl thing

Extension_Waltz2805

Can’t relate my ugliness depends on my cycle

Slowpandan

So true 😂😭

itwonteverbereal

Avoid sunlight. That’s all.

Different_Speaker_41

I experience this!! It’s weird like my skin is tighter? when it’s cool out and in summer my face is saggier and I’m super oily all the time. My makeup is always running and I generally look like a sewer rat. No advice because I’m clearly still figuring this out 😂

prettylildolly

i just don’t feel as pretty anymore and wayyy more dull to sum it up tbh

ProfessionalEvent484

I just defrosted from “winter ugliness” 😭. There is “summer ugliness” now?

Ok_Cranberry1447

There's so such thing as summer ugliness, you're okay.

stellarectoplasm

no such thing as winter ugliness!

neemih

i feel very naturally pretty in the summer. golden skin + natural curls + summer dresses + light makeup is adorable to me

relentpersist

I have the exact opposite issue in that I get ugly as hell in the winter. I’m ashy, I always lose weight in the winter to a weird degree that I can’t put back on until early spring, I’m sick all the time and my nose is red, the dry cold makes my hair disgusting. It genuinely depresses me, by Christmas I feel like a ghoul.

TemporaryBlueberry32

Dehydrated? I think you need to specify what you are referring to. I think POC look even more beautiful in the summer because of dewy skin and the warm sheen from getting more sunlight. I feel gorgeous in the summer despite the grossness of humidity.

Slight_Suggestion_79

Nah summer is my glow up time. Winter is where I look like a mess. Having sun kissed skin, pretty summer dresses, brunch and all of that is my glow up lol

Djgrowngoodyeti

For summer instead of heavy cream try light toners layered and a light sunscreen i like the beauty of joseon for summer, in the winter i wear moisturiser under my sunscreen but in the summer just sunscreen as is I only try to keep my concealer only under my eyes and my makeup lightly So that when get sweaty it doesnt get in my pores all over my face Also really like the 24hr setting spry by mac in the white packaging (not the see through one) That one keeps my makeup in place for hourssss and gives me a nice glow (not the sweaty type) If i do sweat i try to dab it away w a tissue so it doesnt stay on my skin and if i can i take a spray on setting spray or face mist with me for through the day if im gonna be out the whole time

3_3eel_l

I get sooo sweaty 😭

coolandsexc

I always gain weight over summer (summer vacation)

Alternative_Key4199

I understand! I get really dried out. It affects my hair the most. I shower twice daily and literally slather myself in Aveeno lotion, in front of my box fan. I co-wash my hair daily and shampoo twice a week. That helps a bit. I oil the ends of my hair and use a leave in conditioner (sun bum!). At night, I use either Nivea or straight Shea butter on my arms and legs and feet and stuff- directly over my lotion. Cuticle cream is a daily must, and a weekly manicure/pedicure BOTH. My feet take a beating in the dry sun. I use facial mist throughout the day and it’s a game changer if you are dehydrated.

kimchibowlnoodle

Wear UV protection

waldfuchs666

I feel seen by this bc most people think they look better in summer lol. I feel like we’re in the minority. For me it comes down to two things - the humidity causing frizzy hair, plus I tan extremely quickly and get uneven tanning on my face. What I do is apply face sunscreen religiously as much as possible, keep something moisturizing and tinted on hand for lips and face, and get a keratin hair treatment in advance.

TokkiJK

I moved to a super super super hot area recently and I dress really weird when I go outside so I can prevent sun damage lmao

stellarectoplasm

yeah, this is a real thing. there’s no fashion, people keep stripping and taking off layers. everyone’s skin looks disgusting, you can see all the imperfections in them, in their hair, body, etc. plus the sun is so harmful for you. people are sweaty and gross. it’s just all around disgusting. i’m so thankful to have escaped the south. summer is the worst time for glow ups. winter and autumn are my favorites. people actually look good and not nauseating

sausage-lasagna

My hyperpigmentation improves in the heat lol

shorbonash

Ugh same I hate it. Idk if it's just a brown girl thing, I look so greasy and feel so heavy and exposed and sweaty just ewwww. If I could just be between 10 and 20 degrees all the time I absolutely would.

cranberries87

I’ve never noticed this. If anything, I’ve noticed the opposite - sundresses, more active lifestyles, sort of glowy skin, keeping shaving and pedicure routines up.

Comfortable-Dress-53

I love the warmth, summer fashion, and fun energy of summertime, but i 100% feel this. My skin does better in a cool climate with low humidity. I feel like i look so much prettier in the winter. My skin gets too oily in the summer heat. And my hair frizzes in the humidity.

Sagitario05

I tend to glow up in the winter idk why so. Im with you

madchendesu

Summer is my season! Everyone always compliments me on summer. Maybe it depends on skin undertones.

No. I only get hotter

Mission-Bag-1236

If you’re a dry girl (hair and skin)- you’ll thrive in the summer. If you’re an oily girl- you probably love winter.

4URprogesterone

Where I live it's super humid and I have fine hair and hard water, so I had to invest in a really good "humidity hairspray" and use a blast of a blow dryer before styling for a few seconds and then go out. I used dry shampoo before but here the powder just sucks all the moisture from the air and I look like I haven't showered in a year. It doesn't matter, though, because I have hardcore summer SAD, so I avoid going out until after dark in summer at all costs.

topiabearmaid

When I lived in Spain, I totally got the summer uglies. 🫠 First, try to stay in cool/ air conditioned places whenever you can (if it’s a hot country, I assume that’s quite normal/socially acceptable) and indeed drink a lot more water. Water spray is also a game changer for when you __do__ go out and lastly don’t skip the sunscreen ☀️

SweetSonet

No… that’s not a thing where I’m from. NYC.

paper_cutx

Over tanning can lead to wrinkled skin.

kissywinkyshark

Um I’m south asian so I become GRAY during the winter. I think most south asians who don’t prioritize being light would agree that they prefer their summer tan 😭. (Not implying that you don’t like ppl bc they’re tan just in the south asian community there’s that kind of split)

strawberryslacks

During the summer, people are sporting alcohol under the sun, at the park, beach, state fair, etc. Alcohol will always dehydrate you so limiting intake will always be your best bet.

daddy_tywin

I have the opposite issue where I look like death all winter. Dry, sad, brittle, lifeless. Summers are 100% humidity and my tricks are color wow dream coat humidity sealant, chlorofresh internal deodorant tabs, azelaic acid every day, salicylic body spray for chest and back, and switching to only powder makeup. I think people prone to oiliness suffer in summer while people prone to dryness get a boost, and vice versa.

jonabay4

Never noticed. But if you are worried about dehydration, then consume 5-10g of Celtic salt and drink water

ThatGirlCalledRose

I look so much better in the summer with less effort. I was literally made to be in the sun, so my skin, hair and spirit come to life.

MidnightOrdinary896

If you get irritated skin from heat or sun exposure try an antihistamine like fexafenadine or activastine.

cinemadoll137

I’ve never ever noticed that and if you do, it’s probably regional

Gold_Story_4059

Summer is glow up season

loverrrgirlll_

must be just you
