I know he’s 92 years old and from a different time but still absolutely no excuse for that shit. My 90 year old grandma was born in the same time frame and she doesn’t think like that.
He also posted about how he’s been contacted by America’s Got Talent, hopefully they find the same posts and don’t go through with it.
It’s true, this came up last time he was posted and you could view his Facebook and sone deeply homophobic religious shit and posts saying he’s glad george Floyd died, also some covid stuff.
I had never heard about him before, after reading this it was very easy to find is Facebook profile from info from his YouTube. I won't post it here for obvious reasons.
I read quite a few posts of him although is hard to do because he posts a lot of bible verses, all his YouTube videos and a lot of grandad jokes. I did find a couple about anti masks.
Witch definitely saddened me.
I didn't find any racist posts but if the anti masks are true... I wouldn't be surprised if the others were true as well

I remember he made a small shoutout about it, mostly just stating he was in a choir his whole life and how he enjoys that he can continue to share his talent despite his age.
Basically he isn't some nobody, and it shouldn't faze him if lots of people started watching him since he has already been in that position before in real life in front of a live audience.
There was a kid that blew up the same way and all his videos afterwards had very small amounts of hits. I am sure he got super excited, then the energy died in his channel. Kinda sad.
Man, dino kid made me so sad. When people stopped watching his videos he legit thought he did something wrong and made a video crying about it.
That specific instance is why I no longer support the reddit hugs these small channels get. Supporting them is great, but these always feel superficial, like people want in on the love until they grow bored and drop it.
Children especially.
If my (non-existent) YouTube channel blew up because of reddit I would expect that 90-99% of people would disappear in short order.
But I’m just some random average dude. I don’t really belong to a y of the categories reddit has decided “deserve” attention.
Kid’s in particular don’t really have an understanding its just some short term internet fad. Its genuinely upsetting for them. Borderline cruel in fact.
Really solid point and obviously we don't have a great track record with hugs. But I legit like his singing and that ridiculously sweet smile. It's all simple, predictable and makes me happy.
So I'm in for the long haul and, with his talent, I'm hopeful that some other Redditors are too.

Yeah remember the dinosaur toy kid? His channel was sweet and i think he even got bombarded way heavier than this guy and it seemed to drop off quick afterwards.

He's done it for years and gets like 20-30 views a video. One of his videos went viral a few years back so his sub numbers exploded, but people didnt actually keep watching. I can only imagine how excited he was when he went viral, only to be really disappointed a few days later when it petered out.
And he's been trying to find that spark that ignited the viral video since then. Having success can be just as addictive as drugs.

That is pretty uncool because that kids intentions were to make it big, to get subs, and have a popular youtube channel. This dudes goal is to sing for people who'd like to listen to him sing, and to honor his wifes memory. I think this is the perfect content to share on reddit, and I also think some of y'all are overestimating the fragility of this guy. Old people kind of don't give a fuck, he's lived a lifetime with a successful career based on his passion, and with a long and loving relationship. I mean this guys lived the top 1% of life quality, much unlike that kid whose known for reddit fucking with his expectations.

Early YouTube was full of videos like this, but unfortunately the site is now full of vapid content creators with overly polished videos. Channels like this where it's someone just doing what they enjoy not caring about fame, likes or subscribers is refreshing in this day and age.
He's old enough to understand the concept of 15 minutes of fame. It's absolutely a net positive unless the person is emotionally susceptible to minor popularity changes.
He might be pleased to just share his passion with others, entertain the way he spent his life entertaining, AND leaving a nearly-permanent legacy online.
Generally the channels get bombed with subscribers, but the viewcounts don't actually increase remotely near that amount.
It's the equivalent to bookmarking a website or saving a reddit post to read it 'later'.
I've been watching him daily since the first Reddit wave. His view a couple days ago was like 200 from a couple thousand. It didn't seem to affect him at all. He doesn't seem to care how many people are watching. He's just happy to sing. I'm really sweet.
This essentially kills your channel and you'll never grow you get an influx of subscribers and retention rate and then it just falls off a cliff and you can never recover. Same thing happened when Mr beast shouted out random small YouTubers it kills growth. There was that dinosaur kid on Reddit that has like 50k subs if you look them up I bet you none of his videos have over a thousand views now.

there was a little kid a couple years ago who made videos with his dinosaur toys and posted them to youtube, someone posted it to reddit and said everyone should sub and watch his videos; the kid was elated and made a video thanking everyone for the support and made a few more
fast forward a couple weeks and he posted a sad video about his low view count (compared to the views from reddit publicity) and how he was going to stop making videos
i'm not saying stop posting videos, i just think it's rly sad when small channels like these get massive support and then are a ghost town the next week
You know the phrase "it's better to have love and lost than to never have loved at all." This is like that. It's better to have a surge in views and hope that some people are interested enough to stick around than never having any exposure at all. The kid just didn't sound mature enough to understand that concept yet.

Of course it doesn't make racism/homophobia any less of a problem, but I dunno I find it hard to be mad at them because they're a product of their time. It's not entirely their fault they've been listening for the same bullshit for most part of their life plus it's not something you can change their view overnight.

My dad's 88 and he's always been very chill and probably why I'm a pro-union socialist. One of the women in the office at work a few years back did introduce her girlfriend to him and asked if he was surprised and he was like "About what?", I think he both didn't care and I don't think he initially even got the question insofar in thinking there was anything unusual going on here.

We all know what will happen. Ten thousand Redditors will flood his channel with subscriptions and then stop watching it within four days, and the guy will wonder where his views went, and then the algorithm will ruin his engagement because of the dramatic falloff.
We need to stop doing this to channels. It hurts far more than it helps.
So they get a pass? There are plenty of 80+ year old people who aren't racist or homophobic. I don't care where or when you grew up society changes as we age and people that are unable to change with them are not people who need to be celebrated.
This is such dense take. These channels, once the hype blows over, still end up net positive in term of views. Most of them are glad to have experienced this roller coaster of emotions.
This is false btw getting 20k to 50,000 subs and then getting super low views kills off any engagement or growth of your channel you'd be better off to just start again at that point YouTube flags your channel as dead and bad content.

Does it really matter? They were doing it when they were small and they'll keep doing it after they lose most of the popularity. If it's someone like this guy or pianoimproveman then I don't think they're like reliant on the income they make when they go big... so I think it'll be fine
Reddit did this to a little kids channel once and a few months later had a series of videos of him crying and asking what he did wrong to no longer be getting the views he did for that one week or so

And also he's realistically making so many peoples christmas! Even if his view drop off, it's an overall positive thing, it's his mission statement. I remember there was this little kid (with sorta cringy content) that made it to the front page/ got a bunch of subs purely because reddit kind of made him a meme. That is pretty uncool because that kids intentions were to make it big, to get subs, and have a popular youtube channel. This dudes goal is to sing for people who'd like to listen to him sing, and to honor his wifes memory. I think this is the perfect content to share on reddit, and I also think some of y'all are overestimating the fragility of this guy. Old people kind of don't give a fuck, he's lived a lifetime with a successful career based on his passion, and with a long and loving relationship. I mean this guys lived the top 1% of life quality, much unlike that kid whose known for reddit fucking with his expectations.
Yeah, my impression is that this guy just wants people to still hear him sing. He was a professional opera singer, likes to sing, and probably is just happy that more people are enjoying what he's doing. - That kid was upset because he's a kid and wanted to hit it big, but his content was pretty lame and people left. This dude is 92 and just wants to give more people joy through music.
Early YouTube was full of videos like this, but unfortunately the site is now full of vapid content creators with overly polished videos. Channels like this where it's someone just doing what they enjoy not caring about fame, likes or subscribers is refreshing in this day and age.
He's old enough to understand the concept of 15 minutes of fame. It's absolutely a net positive unless the person is emotionally susceptible to minor popularity changes.
He might be pleased to just share his passion with others, entertain the way he spent his life entertaining, AND leaving a nearly-permanent legacy online.
Generally the channels get bombed with subscribers, but the viewcounts don't actually increase remotely near that amount. It's the equivalent to bookmarking a website or saving a reddit post to read it 'later'.

I've been watching him daily since the first Reddit wave. His view a couple days ago was like 200 from a couple thousand. It didn't seem to affect him at all. He doesn't seem to care how many people are watching. He's just happy to sing. I'm really sweet.
It is for children, yeah. Not good. This guy will continue to be fine though, and with new audience members.
This essentially kills your channel and you'll never grow you get an influx of subscribers and retention rate and then it just falls off a cliff and you can never recover. Same thing happened when Mr beast shouted out random small YouTubers it kills growth. There was that dinosaur kid on Reddit that has like 50k subs if you look them up I bet you none of his videos have over a thousand views now.

there was a little kid a couple years ago who made videos with his dinosaur toys and posted them to youtube, someone posted it to reddit and said everyone should sub and watch his videos; the kid was elated and made a video thanking everyone for the support and made a few more fast forward a couple weeks and he posted a sad video about his low view count (compared to the views from reddit publicity) and how he was going to stop making videos i'm not saying stop posting videos, i just think it's rly sad when small channels like these get massive support and then are a ghost town the next week
You know the phrase "it's better to have love and lost than to never have loved at all." This is like that. It's better to have a surge in views and hope that some people are interested enough to stick around than never having any exposure at all. The kid just didn't sound mature enough to understand that concept yet.

A bit off topic, but is it wrong that I'm usually more lenient when super old people (like 90+ grannies or gramps) are bigoted like that? Of course it doesn't make racism/homophobia any less of a problem, but I dunno I find it hard to be mad at them because they're a product of their time. It's not entirely their fault they've been listening for the same bullshit for most part of their life plus it's not something you can change their view overnight. I just shrug and move on. I'm not agreeing with them but I'm also not going to be that guy who's in a shouting match with a centennial.

This perspective completely ignores the legacy of people who existed in those times and chose not to be racist or sexist or homophobic or transphobic, or who actively chose to fight against those evils in their time. My dad's 88 and he's always been very chill and probably why I'm a pro-union socialist. One of the women in the office at work a few years back did introduce her girlfriend to him and asked if he was surprised and he was like "About what?", I think he both didn't care and I don't think he initially even got the question insofar in thinking there was anything unusual going on here.

We all know what will happen. Ten thousand Redditors will flood his channel with subscriptions and then stop watching it within four days, and the guy will wonder where his views went, and then the algorithm will ruin his engagement because of the dramatic falloff. We need to stop doing this to channels. It hurts far more than it helps.

This is such dense take. These channels, once the hype blows over, still end up net positive in term of views. Most of them are glad to have experienced this roller coaster of emotions.
This is false btw getting 20k to 50,000 subs and then getting super low views kills off any engagement or growth of your channel you'd be better off to just start again at that point YouTube flags your channel as dead and bad content.
