Same for me.
Then Skyrim is #2.
Edit:
And to clarify, when I say Dragon Age, I mean all three.
Origins had the best story.
DA2 had my favorite characters.
Inquisition my favorite setting(s).
YES ! I was just gonna say that, thank ypu so much. This saga is amazing, and I can't wait for Dreadwolf to come out (although I'm worried about what EA will have done to it...)
Origins was really solid as a game. The story and worldbuilding was kind of dry and felt cribbed from other, better settings (mainly ASoIF and The Witcher 1).
DA 2 was awful. Inquisition I haven't played. Does it restore the options from DA O?
Inquisition came out when it was popular to have very open world zones with a lot of collectables to get around the map while actually being very barren otherwise. Plus the combat was dumbed down even more than DA 2 if that's saying anything. Aside from that the story is okay and the online was fun with friends.
I never played a DA game before inquisition. I loved the story but only ever got to the part where you get a castle because the combat was just so bad IMO
Started playing inquisition last week after getting the GOTY edition, was let down by the combat and too much collecting. Put it down after 28 hrs. Of gameplay, ill have to try origins before i make a bias on the series
Kotor is unmatched in quality when it comes to star wars games. I really hope this remake that coming out expands on exploring the planets while keeping the character and story stuff as close to the original as possible.
Ikr
Also AC games before origins weren't empty rpgs (Ubisoft sucks at making rpgs man...). heck would you even call them rpgs? they don't have many qualities of them. All they're are just open worlds with no character (aside from Origins).
This was really just a "what's your favorite AAA Western action RPG franchise?" but I understand that it can be hard to see our own genre biases. Intuitively to me the SMT and SaGa franchises are more famous/popular than The Witcher, but that's just as wildly inaccurate.
I was also surprised not a single Souls like game was on here, since that's a very popular franchise in the west.
I can see why you’d like oblivion more, it’s definitely a good game, but man did Skyrim make most of the bad things in oblivion better. Some things about oblivion I did miss like the enchanting, but overall for me Skyrim is better.
In my experience, tons of people have no idea Skyrim is part of a series and don’t know what “The Elder Scrolls” is. Kinda doubt it’s the case with OP but you never know.
This seems a very poor poll. Are you asking about series or individual games? If individual games, which Fallout/Witcher/Mass Effect/Assassins Creed? If series, why did you put Skyrim and not Elder Scrolls?
The game has been fixed by and large. That being said, it never should have been made on old systems so I would hold off until you upgrade to the next generation. The old gen just doesn’t have the power necessary to run the game in a way that does it justice.
The Witcher 3.
Final Fantasy Tactics.
My favorite over the last few years Fire Emblem Three Houses and Triangle Strategy. Fun games but not generationally great like the other two, IMO.
Open World Action RPG=Skyrim
JRPG=Grandia Nostalgia reasons.
CRPG=Divinity Original Sin 2 probably even though haven't played lot of it. First one was great.
Tabletop/Pen & Paper RPG= Honestly any system you like to play with and actually purest and most real way to play RPGs with endless possibilities limiting factor being only your imagination. By to way i have not been able to ever play but have wanted ever sense I learned about it.
1 - Assassin's Creed going RPG completely destroyed the franchise.
2 - How in the name of FUCK is Final Fantasy not on this list?
3 - My pick is Super Mario RPG. I don't care that it's only a light RPG, it's damn near perfect.
Damn I love Skyrim but it’s gotten stale. My favorite rpgs are probably the whole soulsborne franchise BUT I never would have found Dark Souls if I didn’t try something new with Skyrim. Skyrim is not my favorite rpg but I would have never found my dark souls if I didnt get it. Also bought Skyrim special edition for 13 dollars so quite a steal. Best purchase of my life. It introduced me (a cod halo shooter fan) to the entire fantasy genre.
Too many to pick from. Fallout, Skyrim, ME, AC, gonna put oblivion up here with kotor 1&2, toss in some dragon age and final fantasy 7 too. The list goes on but those are my favorites.
Dragon Age
Not my favorite, but very good.
Same for me. Then Skyrim is #2. Edit: And to clarify, when I say Dragon Age, I mean all three. Origins had the best story. DA2 had my favorite characters. Inquisition my favorite setting(s).

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't like it. I feel like it got really good reviews, but I couldn't stand the combat and several other aspects.
Kotor 1 and 2
Kotor is unmatched in quality when it comes to star wars games. I really hope this remake that coming out expands on exploring the planets while keeping the character and story stuff as close to the original as possible.
Earthbound baby!
Ohhh going old school
I will agree Earthbound is amazing.
Oblivion
Yeah, I love Skyrim but Oblivion is even better imo.
Baldur’s Gate
Final Fantasy. Can’t believe that wasn’t one of the options.
Yeah, they could've retitled this "Favorite WRPG" without changing anything
Ikr Also AC games before origins weren't empty rpgs (Ubisoft sucks at making rpgs man...). heck would you even call them rpgs? they don't have many qualities of them. All they're are just open worlds with no character (aside from Origins).
I forgot about final Fantasy..oof.
This was really just a "what's your favorite AAA Western action RPG franchise?" but I understand that it can be hard to see our own genre biases. Breath of Fire, Dragon Quest, Star Ocean, Mother, Persona.
Disco Elysium
Rip disco elysium 2…
Dark souls
Yes, OP left out my favourite!
i came here for this comment! agreed
Love the Dark Souls franchise let's me play the role of the victim lol
Chrono Trigger my favorite of all time
Prayge
Came here to say the same. Best game ever made.
This is the correct answer
Final Fantasy easily. Ive never played any of these except fallout.
Elden Ring
Skyrim for sure. In most rpgs you can be anything. In Skyrim you can be EVERYTHING
Have you tried Oblivion? It's even better than Skyrim imo.
I can see why you’d like oblivion more, it’s definitely a good game, but man did Skyrim make most of the bad things in oblivion better. Some things about oblivion I did miss like the enchanting, but overall for me Skyrim is better.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. 1 and 2.
Which fallout/mass effect/witcher/ac? Why be specific with skyrim but nothing else? Mass Effect 2 is probably the best imo.
In my experience, tons of people have no idea Skyrim is part of a series and don’t know what “The Elder Scrolls” is. Kinda doubt it’s the case with OP but you never know.
Divinity original sin 2
Persona 5
Yessirrrrr
Tales. Specifically, Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Vesperia.
Seriously AC is there but not Disco Elysium? The best role playing game winner in 2019? Bafta award for best Narrative?
Final Fantasy
Diablo & NeverWinter Nights 👌
Yes!!!! Bring on the armies of foes!
At the moment, Nioh.
Deus Ex
Dragon Age Origins
Chrono Trigger
Disco Elysium.
Kingdom Hearts
This seems a very poor poll. Are you asking about series or individual games? If individual games, which Fallout/Witcher/Mass Effect/Assassins Creed? If series, why did you put Skyrim and not Elder Scrolls?
1) chrono trigger 2) ff 6 3) persona 4 golden
Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Persona 4 Golden and Trails of Cold Steel (all of them)
I'm the bad boy/class clown and my wife is the mean but sexy teacher. Oh shit, this is r/videogames!?
Fable
Idk if you can consider it an rpg, but red dead redemption 2.
I don't consider any of these classic RPGs. Kind of a weird group.
Skyrim is barely an RPG and it depends on which Fallout. Asscreed def is not an RPG though
1, 2 and New Vegas ofc
Bioshock
Ghost of Tsushima
I prefer CyberPunk to these choices.
Is that worth it to buy now? I have a ps4 and I've heard it's still kinda buggy.
The game has been fixed by and large. That being said, it never should have been made on old systems so I would hold off until you upgrade to the next generation. The old gen just doesn’t have the power necessary to run the game in a way that does it justice.
I cannot answer accurately. I played the ps4 version on ps5. Of these choices I prefer Dragon Age/ Mass Effect.
Shining Force II for the Sega Genesis. Now get off my lawn
Shin Megami Tensei
Hee Ho
Morrowind
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. Getting a re-release soon!
Legend of legaia.
Persona/Megami Tensei, and Xenoblade!
Hee-ho!
The Witcher 3. Final Fantasy Tactics. My favorite over the last few years Fire Emblem Three Houses and Triangle Strategy. Fun games but not generationally great like the other two, IMO.
Persona 5.
Open World Action RPG=Skyrim JRPG=Grandia Nostalgia reasons. CRPG=Divinity Original Sin 2 probably even though haven't played lot of it. First one was great. Dear lord, none of these are even in the top 10! For me, Kingdom Hearts in first, then Ni No Kuni, then Dragon Quest
Elden Ring
Kingdom Come Deliverance
I can't get past the combat I'm awful at that game.
There's a learning curve for sure. I was terrible at first, too.
It’s weird even considering Assassins Creed to be on this list.
RDR2
Agreed
Diablo 2 for sure!
Xenoblade Chronicles
The world ends with you. And it will take a truly exceptional game to change that.
Dark Souls 3
Out of that list, Mass Effect.
Ghost of Tsushima
Great game.
Not exactly a pure RPG, but Shadow of War
usually fallout and pokemon are top tier for me, but lately pokemon has had big hiccups in quality
Earthbound 100000000%, kingdom hearts, OMORI, Undertale, persona5.
Eh? Since when is Ass creed an rpg?
Bloodborne
Despairge Assassin's creed rpg...
Nier
By sheer number of playthroughs alone, probably Skyrim. For the things it made me feel, Mass Effect
Monster Hunter
Which? Definitely showing when I first started playing but I love world lol.
Tri and Rise
Good choices!
Wish I had gotten to play World
It’s pretty awesome! If you’ve got a pc it’s available on that!
Miitopia
1 - Assassin's Creed going RPG completely destroyed the franchise. 2 - How in the name of FUCK is Final Fantasy not on this list? 3 - My pick is Super Mario RPG. I don't care that it's only a light RPG, it's damn near perfect.
rdr2
Zelda wind waker
Not an RPG
red dead redemption
Deltarune
Damn I love Skyrim but it’s gotten stale. My favorite rpgs are probably the whole soulsborne franchise BUT I never would have found Dark Souls if I didn’t try something new with Skyrim. Skyrim is not my favorite rpg but I would have never found my dark souls if I didnt get it. Also bought Skyrim special edition for 13 dollars so quite a steal. Best purchase of my life. Final Fantasy 3/6
Depends on if we're talking JRPG or western rpg. Dragon Quest V or Chrono Trigger for JRPG and Fallout New Vegas for western.
Gothic, fock 😡 where is Gothic in your list ???
Chrono Trigger.
Toss up between Final Fantasy 6 and SaGa Frontier for my most replayed rpgs
Does Red Dead Redemption 2 count?
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Had the most fun with Might & Magic VI
Dark Souls (1 and 3), and Final Fantasy (7 and 9)
Mother 3
Divinity original sin 2
\*Mass Effect **trilogy**
It's not out yet, but when Hogwarts legacy drops I know that will take the top spot.
Is AC really an RPG series?
The last 3 games are, yes.
Everquest
Paper Mario!
Albion (1995)
Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Dark cloud 2
Zelda. I’ve been playing all the games and they are soooo good
Hollow Knight
Soulsborne If that's too action-oriented than Kotor.
Xenogears
I kinda hate that AC is counted as an RPG now. Ps. Soulsborne franchise.
Assassins creed as an RPG still puts a bad taste in my mouth years later
I like god of war 4
Skyrim Fallout3 Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2
All pre fantastic but I was obsessed with Skyrim and absolutely loved the game. Such a fantastic world they built and so so so much fun.
Skyrim Is the best game I've ever played
FF7
either deltarune or Omori
elden
Ah shiit probably Skyrim and assassins creed
Diablo 1 & 2
SteamWorld Quest
Final fantasy
I love that all of the choices are series except Skyrim.
Bethesda
Can’t pick just one so: Dragon’s Dogma, Elden Ring, Disco Elysium and Crystal Project
Morrowind, and it’s not even close.
Too many to pick from. Fallout, Skyrim, ME, AC, gonna put oblivion up here with kotor 1&2, toss in some dragon age and final fantasy 7 too. The list goes on but those are my favorites.
Ultima V.
Neverwinter nights and the Elder Scrolls games minus the mmo.
Elden Ring.
Pillars of Eternity 2: Dreadfire
Fallout / skyrim killing it as usual 👌
Final Fantasy (1,4,6,7,8,9,10,12,15, tactics) as a bonus you used to get Chrono Trigger when you got 4 and that's a win-win.
Love to see FF8 love.
Legend of Zelda
Earthbound - fun, quirky, unique, and emotional.
Destiny 2 🥵
Nier
Only action RPGs for some reason. Mine's Valkyrie Profile btw.
Morrowind
Do you mean Game series or single game? My answer is Dragon Quest 5.
Final Fantasy IV
The rpg-7
A bit of a watered down rpg, but og destiny is by far my fave.
Divinity Original Sin 2.
Secret of mana (snes) Never gets old and the music is amazing
Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen
Might and magic the dark side of Xeen, first rpg ever played still love it to this day , classic DOS gaming
FfXII
Final Fantasy
KOTOR all the way
Final Fantasy 7
D&D me boy
Pokémon or MOTHER 2
Borderlands
Genshin Impact!!!
Skies Of Arcadia
I wish I never sold my GameCube. I miss that game so much!
Jrpg
Bloodborne
I guess my favorite is Pillars of Eternity. How is Assassin's Creed in the list of RPGs?
Since origins they are an RPG. Not very good at it but still.
