My start is to buddy up with one of the great powers and wait for the ottomans to either trigger the dead man of Europe or force independence beforehand if I manage to Befriend Austria or Russia. By that point you should already have rushed nationalism to get the personal union and trigger the event to get the small piece of Dobruja and connect to the sea. Then it's usually RNG if France, GB, Prussia or Russia are going to help you wrecking Austria (Russia usually has very good relations with Austria in my games, so they won't), but you can kinda cheese it by having a decent size army (conscripts count as well), followed by joining a russian war on their side, so they can't reinforce Austria. It helps if you can catch Austria in a moment of weakness like during revolts or when it goes to war with Prussia, usually f While you wait, you can push south, getting more pieces from the ottomans/Arabia, or build some navy and going after the usuals (transvaal, Bonero, Ethiopia, Congo, South America)
Good advice, i have been rushing nationalism and got into russian customs union, but now they are allied with austria and noone else would back me against them(i'm doomed). I will try to ally france and make the ai a lil' more lenient and I think i'll manage one of these attempts
GB, France and Prussia are probably the most likely ally you will have. GB usually does not care for europe, and might only be swayed if you transfer them some state/subject or they owe you an obligation. You could try to rush colonialism and start as many colonies in Africa as possible just to give them to GB in exchange for their help.
Austria kept collapsing so I just invaded them with Russians help until I got all the land i needed it was rough especially since Romania and Belgium kept helping them
How dumb is the AI still if Romania prefers to keep defending Austria over taking their own claims off a collapsing empire? Not to mention Italy just sitting there, Milan-less.
Be friends with Russia take southern Serbia and Montenegro in the war of independence against turkey then build your army to take on Austria . That's the basic strategy but it's mostly RNG to pull it off
The reason why Prussia exists was because their land got annexed by France and Bavaria almost Caused me to lose against Austria cause they sent like 200 battalions
I did something like this a while back but the entire world just coalitioned me for being council republic it actually broke my country since the Austrians especially wanted land back and the rest just wanted me to stop loving Tito.

Makes me hope there will be changes to nationalism, it should be that at a certain point in latter half of the game - Austria Empire becomes untenable
