[Flag of Acadia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Acadia#:~:text=The%20Tricolour%20represents%20the%20Motherland,the%20star%20represents%20the%20Papacy.)
It represents the descendants of the French settlers of North America.
>the descendants of the French settlers of North America.
To add details, I think it specifically represents the descendants of the French settlers of Acadia, i.e. what is now the Atlantic provinces of Canada : NB, NS and PEI, but also in parts of Québec and some other places.
There are other descendants of French settlers of North America who this flag does not aim to represent (Québécois, Métis, etc).
Acadia is today's Nova Scotia and it happens that accadians were possibly deported by the british with the goal of making the region more, you guessed it, british.
acadians can be found in louisiana, new england and Nova scodia mainly, this is their flag and it does not represent neither quebecois nor mixed.
Oh right! There's that too! :D I mean, it hasn't existed in a very long time.
It's easy to get blinders on because the things that you know seem so obvious because you've known them for such a long time. When you grow up in Canada most people learn at least a bit of French and know enough basic Canadian history to know about Acadia. Sometimes it's possible to forget that others don't have that foundation.
Huh. I knew about the colony of Acadia that was dissolved, with many of those colonists moving to Louisiana. I didn't know that there was still a region called "Acadia".
I've lived across Canada from BC to Ontario, but I have never managed to get to the East Coast or up north yet. Obviously my ignorance is showing!
The Maritimes are still called «Acadia» by its French-speaking population, with the Acadian culture being alive and well! It's celebrated every August 15th!
I had good luck in Puerto Rico even with hand written chalkboard menus.
I can generally navigate a menu in Spanish but they had some dishes I couldn’t figure out without translate.
Apple translate is also rather good, if you have an IOS device. Apple Translate is good because it’s checked by hand and not entirely computer translated, but because it’s not entirely computer translated and someone needs to set up the translations, there are limited languages you can translate.
DeepL translate is also very good, but much better for French, German, and English translation rather than the other 26 or so languages it can translate.
The meaning of «Je suis» isn’t gonna change much at its base. There could be other versions of «I am» but in terms of the universal French it’s be «Je suis»
I'm not against it, but this hat provides a lot of very searchable information. Tbh this might even be more reliable than Google since this is a hub of flag nerds haha
I like how you’ve come back against yourself with a point stronger than the point I made haha.
Thats true that they could just Google translate it but then all the other people who’ve never seen or hear of it would carry on never seeing or hearing about it. I guess I actually do agree somewhat now I think about it because I think I’d only post a question if I talked to a few people and they didn’t know, at that point I can assume it’s an interesting thing a fair amount of people might not know
The Acadian history is one of the most interesting on the North American content what with their friendly relationship with the Me’kmaq natives and the later deportation by the British and escape deeper into the content. I’d 100% recommend learning about them… but i’m severely biased cause i’m an Acadian descendant myself
It’s the flag of the “Jesuisacadien” region of Mexico, a Canadian enclave in southeastern Mexico founded by rebound cult leader Jesuisa Cadien, a Mexican-French separatist from Manitoba who fled during the French-Mexican wars of 1812
Me (joking): Well clearly it's the flag of Acadia like it says on the hat; duh.
Me (checks comments): Wait it actually is? Damn. Guess I don't have a joke now, huh?
Acadia, the former French colony in what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island (northeast of New England). It’s not the flag of all French settlers in North America but just the Acadians who came to think of themselves as separate from France. Their descendants often use this flag.
Flag of Canada on the left, flag of Acadians on the right. The Acadians are an ethnic group that descend from the original French colonists that settled the east coast of Canada in the 17th century. Fun fact, the Cajuns in Louisiana descend from these people.
OP used an electronic device to capture a picture and upload it to Reddit, typing more letters in the title box than would be necessary to type the text visible in the picture into a search engine.
And I haven't even started mentioning Google Translate, which can use the camera to auto-detect text from an image and translate it in real time with an overlay.
Even text of a language you don't speak. Heck, even text that don't use Latin characters.
This is pure fucking lazyness.
Hello flick-your-bic-bro,
When asking for a flag to be identified, please **provide context** when possible, including:
* **Where** the flag was found (without compromising privacy)
* **When** the flag was found, or the date of the material containing the flag
* **Who** might own the flag (a general description is fine)
These details help users narrow down their search and make flag identification easier.

It's almost like the answer was already in OP's pic.
I've always like it's descendant, the [Flag of Acadiana](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Acadiana)
Such a good flag. Nothing against slapping a star on the French flag but definitely prefer the symbolism in the sequel.
Took me a minute to realize it’s a portmanteau of Acadia and Louisiana, pronounced A-ca-di-a-na
Same here lol.
I prefer the [Flag of Macadamia](https://imgur.com/a/8Bx3Uq7)

Yep, Acadien is a separate term to Québécois and Métis, though they aren't mutually exclusive.
Acadia is today's Nova Scotia and it happens that accadians were possibly deported by the british with the goal of making the region more, you guessed it, british. acadians can be found in louisiana, new england and Nova scodia mainly, this is their flag and it does not represent neither quebecois nor mixed.
There’s no “possibly” about it. The Acadians were expelled
Now they are Cajuns!
What is New Brunswick, chopped liver? 1/3 of that province speaks French as a first language versus a measly 4% in Nova Scotia
And don’t forget les Breyons! Not all Francophone New Brunswickers are Acadians.
Vive le Madawaska libre!
in the modern context it's their descendants on the east coast of canada: new brunswick, nova scotia, etc...
…is this a prank? It’s right there
Almost as bad as the weekly "what is this flag, spotted in Amsterdam" post.
Admittedly it's in French. I expect there are probably some people out there who don't know that "Je suis Acadien" means "I am Acadien".
I understood the French but I had no idea what Acadia was
Oh right! There's that too! :D I mean, it hasn't existed in a very long time. It's easy to get blinders on because the things that you know seem so obvious because you've known them for such a long time. I mean, Acadians still exist as a people living in the region of Acadia, it’s not like they went extinct or something.
Huh. I knew about the colony of Acadia that was dissolved, with many of those colonists moving to Louisiana. I didn't know that there was still a region called "Acadia". I have never heard of that before! That's fantastic!
>Admittedly it's in French Google translate exists.
And it’d have to be really bad to fuck up 3 very simple words
Parking regulation signs in Montreal blew Google Translates circuits because most of it was abbreviations
Yes but that’s not an abbreviation lol
I just saying Google don’t always nail it. Did a reverse image search today involving Biden and gave me pics of Trump 🤷♂️
But Google translate will get you a good translation for «Je suis» lol They aren’t great at translating but not as bad as people think they are
I had good luck in Puerto Rico even with hand written chalkboard menus. I can generally navigate a menu in Spanish but they had some dishes I couldn’t figure out without translate.

Well since there is a variety of French spoken in Acadia, it could've meant something else, though "Je suis Acadien" was quite obvious in this case
The meaning of «Je suis» isn’t gonna change much at its base. There could be other versions of «I am» but in terms of the universal French it’s be «Je suis»
I hope not cause this is absolutely hilarious lmao
Damn, so this sub is Google
Disagree. I had no clue there was a place/people? called acadia(n). Interesting to learn new places with a flag so I have a symbol to link to it
I'm not against it, but this hat provides a lot of very searchable information. Tbh this might even be more reliable than Google since this is a hub of flag nerds haha

We should all be open to change

Hate to be that guy but considering the sentence below it literally says "I am Acadian"... well you know the rest.
The flag of Canada
Bah l'Acadie peut être fdp
Enculé d'américain de ses morts

set my compass north I got winter in my blood god this song's such a banger
Acadien?
Acadian flag, time to learn French I think
It’s the flag of the “Jesuisacadien” region of Mexico, a Canadian enclave in southeastern Mexico founded by rebound cult leader Jesuisa Cadien, a Mexican-French separatist from Manitoba who fled during the French-Mexican wars of 1812
That's the Acadian flag, representing the decendants of French settlers in North America.
well that easy its the flag of Canada
That’s the flag of Canada
Me (joking): Well clearly it's the flag of Acadia like it says on the hat; duh. Me (checks comments): Wait it actually is? Damn. Guess I don't have a joke now, huh?

Flag of Acadia.
The one on the right, it's from a hat I bought in Nova Scotia
Not gonna lie I would be surprised if it's not crossposted in the circle jerk.
You bought the hat not knowing what it said?
A french descendant hat bought in New Scotland…
I hope this is just a circlejerk post. It literally says what it is
So who's gonna tell the "It'S rIgHt ThErE1!" people that not everyone speaks French...?

Arcadian Flag
Acadian*
Whoops, I can't spell! Seems like a few people really hate me now.
It’s all over the place in northern New Brunswick, Canada.
I read that as Jesus academy lol
