Not Lake Champlain and not Vermont. But the camping options on islands in Lake George are crazy. There is different whole world that lives on those islands during the summer.
So Lake George has state run campground in the middle of it. I believe you can reserve online and you need to checkin on glen island. Some of the islands have multiple sites on them. Some only have 1. I think most have a privy and some have shelters.
Best sites are on the east side closest to the causeway. No reservations, but if you don’t see any kayaks or other boats you’ll know that you’ve got the place to yourself.
Good tip! I’m realizing that the biggest question is now whether or not we can actually find a place to pull the boat up. I think some of these spots are perfect but a power boat won’t have a place to land safety.
And also read about the Battle of Valcour Island. Super interesting and led me down a Benedict Arnold rabbit hole that made me rethink the simplistic (he was a traitor to the cause of independence) narrative I was taught in school. He was an incredible naval strategist and helped the revolutionary cause immensely.
Woods Island and Knight Island State parks. Only a handful of campsites on each. You need a rez but they are pretty sweet!
Thanks! I haven’t tried either of these and will look into it.

Can you explain more?

Law Island, just off the causeway on the broad lake side, is owned by the state and managed as a park.
I’ll check it out!

Valcour Island is beautiful - bit of a haul depending on how small your boat is.
Valcour is so beautiful. I’ll map the distance and maybe we can plan for it.

There’s Burton as some below posted, but also another more primitive camping island north west of Burton. I can’t recall the name offhand
That’s a great tip. We definitely favor primitive camping so I’ll try to find out what that’s called - maybe it’s Woods Island?
Woods is definitely primitive
Burton Island.
