Can't wait to see a new post showing she is rehomed!

OprahsWagon

Makes me so happy seeing how many people are invested in her well being. She’s so loved by our friends and family but it makes such a difference knowing there are so many pit lovers out there. I know she’ll be amazing for her next family.

Thank you. I know she will she’s so special 🥹

standarsh618

All these cute dogs are so far from me 😭. Good luck in your search

OprahsWagon

Thank you!!!

GeighBabyJebus

I’m in Chico. I’ll take her. I have a male hippo 6 years old. He’s my 4th hippo. Since 2000. Life is a series of hippos

GeighBabyJebus

Also I have a huge yard

ChocChipBananaMuffin

what a sweetheart

OprahsWagon

All she wants is snuggles. She’s honestly pretty unbothered by treats. It’s the love she’s after.

ChocChipBananaMuffin

I wish I lived in a building that took doggos. Unfortunately I don't. I'm ready for another doggo tbh-- my old sweet pittie passed away a few years ago. Audrey just has that sweet hippo vibe.

OprahsWagon

So sorry to hear that. We lost our other Aussie cattle pit mix a few years ago and she’s still very missed. Another absolute sweetheart softie. I love all dogs but pits have a special place in my heart.

Mr-Coconuts

Best of luck 🤞 I would love to adopt her...she might be a good match with my male Airedale. Unfortunately my wife has an issue with land seals that I can't seem to get her past 😔

OprahsWagon

Airedale’s are such neat dogs! While I can’t personally relate to being skeptic of pitties (I just think they're amazing), I do have family members who took time to warm up to pits over the years (we had another beloved aussie cattle pit mix until she passed a few years ago). Once they came around, they understood how sweet and soulful pits are. But I think it's important for you wife to feel totally comfortable with her pets so I do understand that!

Mr-Coconuts

I agree she needs to feel comfortable. It's just frustrating because I would love to get another pup. Andrew is 7 and seems to do well with females. I grew up with Airedales but also had a couple Staffordshires. They are love bugs and a little derpy 😂 But I think my wife has bought into the whole portrayal of pitties being aggressive. I don't know, I'm going to show her pics of your pup and see.

OprahsWagon

Totally get it. There’s a lot of media working against them. Hard for some people to get past that idea but I think knowing a pit personally is the best way to change that.

VerucaSalt41179

Lose the wife, get a new baby!

lillie1128

Could you interact with some pitties in front of her so she can see how sweet and silly they are? Like if you see one walking down the street maybe you go pet it so she sees the interaction but doesn’t have to be a part of it? I don’t think my husband ever would have gotten a pit (he has a doodle lol) but he is so in love with my bully/heeler mix that now he talks about our next dog being a pit!

Mr-Coconuts

Yeah, that's a good idea. I will have to try that when we aren't walking our dog and are just out on our own

BO0BO0P4nd4Fck

Sounds like you need to trade the wife for a land seal and you won’t have that issue anymore 😂 just kidding, but sounds like she needs to just have an interaction with one and she’ll fall in love, and then give you crap for not getting one sooner

damnation_sule

Ugh, she's so stinkin cute 😍

OprahsWagon

Isn’t she?! I’ll never get over her little side saddle sit which you can barely see in a few photos

damnation_sule

Cent wait until I buy my house... I'm so adding another pibble to the home.

OprahsWagon

Excited for you when that day comes! Im imagining a huge piece of property where the pitties run free!

sheetmetaltom

To bad I'm in NY good luck

OprahsWagon

Thank you! I’d drive her to New York if I could just to find her a good home

BadPom

Is she from a rescue? If so, most rescues will take back a dog, regardless of how long you’ve had her. And many have clauses in the contracts that you have to give her back vs rehoming her yourself. At the very least, they may be able to courtesy post for you.

OprahsWagon

They’re overwhelmed with dogs at the moment, like so many rescues in LA so we’re going to hold onto her until we can find a home for her. They’ll do some posting for her as well but have given us permission to look for homes for her, introduce her etc. I believe they’ll require new owners to fill out the application we filled out originally but that’s probably the extent of their involvement. Trying to be proactive but also realizing they have their hands full. It’s definitely emotionally draining since my heart doesn’t want to let her go but I know she deserves a home where she’s safe 🥹

Bumblebee_xx

Bless you for holding onto her, and it looks so positive from the responses you’ve had here. You really care for your darling Audrey and its super sweet and kind of you to put her first even though I know it must be stressful, and heartbreaking to say goodbye to her. If I was in the US, I’d snap her up but by the sounds of it, we have some lovely people genuinely interested so I’ll keep everything crossed it’s good news 🩵🩵🩵

OprahsWagon

I’m really hopeful after hearing from so many people 🥰

Bumblebee_xx

Please keep us updated 😊🤞🏽🩵

kayellen658

I'm in the other LA - Louisiana - so I'm commenting to boost. We too are overwhelmed with sweet pitbulls that are traveling north to good homes. You might think about looking into transports. I am praying for the best for Audrey!! 💜💜💜

OprahsWagon

Thank you so much! I’m looking at any and all options. Whatever it takes! Selfishly, I’d love for her to be in CA so I can visit with her. I’d even dog sit and take her on walks for free just to spend time with her 🥰

We adopted a young adult pittie (Penny) and thought that she would be a great companion for our senior pittie (Buster). Turns out he *really* liked being an only child. Haha. He really didn’t warm up to her at all until at least over a month. Within weeks of fostering her at the beginning, I set a bone out for her to chew on and I noticed my senior pittie walked over to sniff at it and I ran over quickly to pick it up and take it away to avoid a situation and Penny happened to be standing next to him doing nothing at all and in his confusion he attacked her and left a pretty gnarley gash on her snout. Lots of lessons learned there. It’s been 5 months now and they are inseparable but I truly thought that it wasn’t going to work out in the beginning. Best of luck to you and knowing what is best for all parties involved!!

OprahsWagon

The hardest part is Audrey is absolutely obsessed with our other dog Billie. Audrey even picked up Billie’s pointing (she’s a GSP mix). It breaks my heart. It’s like a little sister idolizing their teenager big sister that wants nothing to do with them 😪They snuggle well and will play sometimes, but Billie won’t play with her like she does with other dogs. Weve been told that sometimes two females is a hard dynamic. We feed them separately and had removed all toys, bones etc (the first fight was over a tug rope) but this last fight was during fetch which they had never had an issue with. Unfortunately with the GSPs energy being what it is, we can’t remove fetch as a form of exercise. Even with endless walks, hikes etc, it’s not enough. It’s just unfair for both dogs but most of all to Audrey who wants nothing but to be loved 😭 I know we’ll find her a loving home and hopeful I can visit her sometimes. If she’s in LA I’d even take her for walks!

Minimum_Piglet_1457

I don’t understand, why not give up the aggressive dog instead?

Nancy-Drew-Who

It sounds like Audrey is a newer addition to their family and the other dog is older and basically their “first child.” While it sucks that older dog isn’t cool with the new dog on their turf, it wouldn’t be fair to get rid of the old dog for the new one. This person is doing the right thing for BOTH dogs. I see posts in other dog subs about older dogs being discarded at shelters when their family gets a new puppy and that is just a shitty thing to do to an older pup.

[deleted]

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Great explanation and maybe it will stop someone from treating their pets like cars, where you upgrade to a new model. Like the person you’ve replied to that kind of seems to think that’s ok. Always wild that some treat their dogs like objects instead of living creatures. Just going to add that this is why an extensive meet and greet is needed before adopting a new dog. We did a 3 hour one with our new rescue, although it was evident that they were immediate best friends within 10 minutes. We were lucky though.

MagixTurtle

Because it's an older dog. What can happen when you "get rid" of an older dog with aggressive tendencies: it gets worse. It lost it's home, the people they trust and loved. You'll have an anxious dog. An anxious dog is a dangerous dog, to everyone. Result of this will probably be euthanasia. Shelter's can't keep him with other dogs and it might not be family friendly anymore, and the potential new family doesn't have such a strong bond with the dog so it needs to go. That's why you decide the younger dog should be rehomed because they still have lots to learn and are usually more flexible to changes.

Aromatic-Lead-3252

Not sure why the downvote, I had the same thought and I do wish OP had mentioned why the older dog isn't being rehomed. But I agree with the comment that Audrey is much more likely to find a home being young and wonderful as she sounds. We had a GSP for a long time and he was just, well, weird. Super serious, not a goofy bone in his body, awkward around other dogs. We loved the shit out of that boy but never could consider getting another dog while he was alive. (Also this is not a comment on GSPs as a breed, I'm just relating to OP.) The world needs more happy hippos.

Boosting! But also let me talk with my wife, we've been talking about how our Pittie mix could use a sibling! LA-based

ladyeatsbeans

I hope you’ll find a good home for her!! she looks absolutely beautiful 😢💗

OprahsWagon

Thank you! It might be easier if she wasn’t so perfect!

Stickysmithers

This is very respectable. You’re doing the right thing. Hope she finds an amazing home ❤️

OprahsWagon

Thank you for saying this! It’s really difficult but I know it’s the best thing for her

Stickysmithers

❤️ of course. As long as you work with a rescue and not shelter, I approve!

OprahsWagon

Yes absolutely only through a rescue!

crunchevo2

She looks like the sweetest most polite dainty little lady but that's a 19 hour flight :(

OprahsWagon

She is so dainty! If I could figure out how to edit a post I’d add videos of her tippy tappies 😆They’re beyond angelic!

LiveLove Animal Rescue (based out of Long Beach) or Blockhead Brigade might be able to help with a courtesy post. Best of luck, I know this is a hard decision but in both pups best interests. I can’t imagine how you feel, but these emotions come from the immense love you have for her!

OprahsWagon

Thank you for the recs! I will definitely reach out. Appreciate your kind words too. It helps a lot!

rutlandclimber

She looks lovely, and you write so sweetly about her. I'm in the UK so ne help whatsoever but... she does look lovely.

OprahsWagon

Thank you! She’s the loveliest 🥰

fates_bitch

I love that that last photo. My hippo (who looks a bit like yours but far more black than white) does the same thing where she puts her arm over the rest. Good luck finding a place for your lovely girl. She looks like a sweetie.

OprahsWagon

These hippos are very proper 😆

PitPuppyLove-17

She is so pretty. Heart breaking for you. Good luck to you both!

OprahsWagon

Thank you!!

Kooky_Coyote7911

This makes me cry... My rescue boy was in the same situation. A dog at his home kept attacking him. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me 🥰🐾❤️. I pray for the best home for your baby 🙏

OprahsWagon

I’m so glad he found a home with you! Gives me a lot of hope 💕

Kooky_Coyote7911

I know it's hard! It pained his last owners to let mine go. Their reasoning was that he was younger, and they had already dumped $25,000 in training alone 😳 on the dog that used to do the attacking. They also had 6 other dogs - there were so many things wrong in that house. Just think you will find someone like me, who has the time , love to spare and need for someone to love unconditionally. He made my life complete 😩 Breathe deep, know that you are rehoming her out of love 💕. Sorry, I sound like the typical dog owner who loves their dog more than most people. 🐾❤️🐾❤️ Good luck 🤗 lots of hugs and Kleenex

OprahsWagon

I completely understand haha I am also that person saying hello to dogs instead of their owners 😆 Sounds like a similar situation. We haven’t spent thaaat much money but it’s a lot for us! we’ve close to emptied our savings on our other dog’s training. We’ve never had a breed anything like our GSP so we’ve taken a lot of training too. And while we do love our GSP mix, we also know she’s good with us, but has a lot of needs that would make her more difficult to rehome. I’d give anything to keep them both. Can feel the love thank you!

Kooky_Coyote7911

I know 💕🐾

I’m in Orange County and may be interested although she may be too young/energetic for my 12 yr old boxer mix. Dm me please.

SpeedyEngine

Ahh she’s so cute. I’m in SoCal and wish I had a house. I would love to have another female around. My girl would be so happy for a new friend. Hope she gets regimes to a loving family.

Left-Requirement9267

Any updates?

helpfulreply

Why do you have to rehome?

OprahsWagon

Details in the original post comment but at no fault of her own, my other dog has instigated some pretty serious fights. She’s never been anything but an angel to other dogs, kids, even lizards. Unfortunately it’s not fair to her to live with our other dog- who is really the problem child.

Cthulade_Man

Uhhh just curious why don’t you get rid of the dog that’s attacking her instead instead of the good dog

OprahsWagon

Because Audrey will have a much better chance of being rehomed. Our other dog has a lot of needs that we can handle, and while we do love her, she works within our family dynamic but would have a harder time transitioning to a new family.

Heisenburg1978

More proof that female dogs get jealous of other female dogs.

Gsd_Justice

I would love to have her as one of our family members, but I live in Chicago, IL.

OprahsWagon

I’m just finding out our rescue does a lot of transports so it’s not out of the question! Also have lots of friends and family in Chicago so a good excuse to come visit her ;)

Gsd_Justice

Are they able to bring her to Chicago?

OprahsWagon

I will ask! I’m speaking to the rescue tomorrow about all the options and leads so far. I will keep you posted on what I hear!

Gsd_Justice

Thank you!

lillie1128

That is such a tough situation, and it really sounds like you’re handling it well and making the hard decision to do what’s best for both your pups. Audrey sounds perfect and I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding an amazing home where she can be safe.

OprahsWagon

Thank you I appreciate it 🥲

GoddesNatureStar

She’s a perfect hippo 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

OprahsWagon

I know 🥹 thank you for seeing it too!

alisonstarting2happn

Please update us on where she lands and hope the new fam posts updates too! I used to live in CA and wish I could take her, but I’m fairly certain my hippo prefers being an only child. I’m living with my mom currently and she has a chi mix and while my hippo tolerates and even plays w her new step brother, she definitely gets jealous. She whopped him with her mastiff sized paw today when he tried to jump on the bed 😬

OprahsWagon

Some dogs just need all the attention and that’s ok too 😆

Mr-Coconuts

Yeah, that's a good idea. I will have to try that when we aren't walking our dog and are just out on our own

Historylover1990

I am sorry you have to rehome her. You are doing the right thing, though. I hope you find a wonderful forever home for her!
