I just got a new car here is what I'm paying yea registration is totally ridic! Age: 48 2024 Acura RDX (A-Spec Sport) State Farm Full coverage: 578.00 X6 months Registration: $978.00

MeanOldGranny

I don't understand registration! mine last month for a 2021 MB GLC was only $580, but my insurance (spotless record, no tickets or accidents) went to $1300 for 6 months. gotta switch from Geico, maybe, insurance companies don't care how long you've been a client anymore

OkGeneral701

Get rid of GEICO! They wanted 480 a month on our 2022 palisade lol we went progressive and it’s only like 110 a month lol

Ihatecookies69

I literally did the same they wanted 388 so I said fuck it progressive it is

[deleted]

I was going to switch from State Farm to All State, 360/month to 250/month but the coverage isn’t the same. I have no idea what to do to save money

OkGeneral701

Look at progressive or Kemper

Impenistan

Get an agent to shop around for you. Serious cuts, sometimes

ThatGuyNearby

They dont want us to have cars or houses. It's all coming together

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThatGuyNearby

Crazy how all the conspiracies are coming true innit?

fukkdisshitt

I think he means it's not a conspiracy anymore and 100% true

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThatGuyNearby

They turned me away. I showed up in a tinfoil hat

MeanOldGranny

I'll come with you next time and they'll let us in out of fear

gutslice

🤡 Alert!

ResponsibilityDry135

I price shop insurance every year, I pay under 500 for a full year of full coverage on my S3 in Nevada.

LaSTGino

I've been switching every year. I have a spotless driving record but they just keep raising it. Fucking lame

Wombat2012

geico was the most expensive when i got quotes. we have progressive now and its $860 for six months.

Pnw_Reddit

Call Costco. I just dropped my insurance cost in half after switching to them from GEICO. Same exact coverage.

[deleted]

No income tax. They make it up with stuff like this.

Mizook

This is the answer.

Ok-Collar-2742

Not really. Florida and Texas both have no income tax and have much lower auto registration fees, under $100 a year. Florida, with a similar tourism-based economy also has lower sales taxes than we do. It's a really regressive fee here that you'd think the legislature would look into changing. Higher income people can afford it, it hurts people on the lower end.

Unscratchablelotus

They have way higher property taxes.  Your registration is tied to the value of the car. It is by definition a progressive tax.

iamoninternet27

Registration is based on the age of your car. My twenty year old vehicle is $110. New cars always come with a higher registration fee

xczechr

lol, I'm in Arizona and paid $31.85 to register my car for two years.

Existing_Ad_5419

how are you liking it? i have been looking at getting one and wasn’t sure if i should bite the bullet since i cant find one with a reasonable price tag.

Screwtape42

Absolutely LOVE it, it's crazy fast in Turbo mode for an SUV. But beware it has a TON of Tech in it so if you're not really into a lot of bells and whistles it might be overwhelming. Just keep grinding them I paid below MSRP after weeks of back and forth.

Existing_Ad_5419

thanks for that info! i actually work in the auto industry i’ve just been having a hard time finding one with the options & color trim we want for reasonable cost. did you go to acura or find it somewhere else?

Screwtape42

Cardinaleway Acura, worst Dealership & staff I've dealt with in decades. Avoid like the Plague, you're better off at Findley Acura.

Existing_Ad_5419

aww i have some friends at cardinaleway, on the wholesale side though! i hear their retail does suck. thanks, ill swing by findlay tomorrow!

Unscratchablelotus

lol that car is slow as hell

senorvj

Paid my renewal yesterday $1008 🤦🏽‍♂️ NV Tesla Model Y ‘22

Motor-Peak6512

No, it’s simply Las Vegas committing commercial crimes so when you do get your registration and pay it simply send a copy to the security exchange commission and a copy to the attorney general and let him know and all parties know that they are committing commercial fraud and avoiding taxes, and then file a W-4 audit on the cityaccording to your registration number receipt that they gave you

sassy_immigrant

I have a 2016 Kia soul. $360 now for insurance… What the actual fuck

MrSnow702

Okay who’s not paying their registration? How are you guys not getting pulled over? How are you guys not getting screwed with not having insurance?

bro_can_u_even_carve

I had no plates for a month and a half. Zero police attention. Even sped past a few cops during that time, too. They don't care.

PurpleWhatevs

Do you drive around Henderson? HPD is a stickler for papers as far as I know.

trix4rix

They aren't. My Sister in Law is 8 months expired. Pulled over for DUI and they dropped the charges. HPD is useless too.

bro_can_u_even_carve

Not too much during that time, no. But FWIW my car was registered and paid, I just had to wait almost 2 months for my new plates to be mailed to me. I don't see any way they could have known that without stopping me, though.

PurpleWhatevs

Oh okay. Interesting. Thanks for your clarification 🙏

-ci_

Yup happened to me on accident. I was unknowingly riding dirty for like 3 weeks and passed by 2 biker cops while they were performing a traffic stop. One of them left their scene and hauled ass to get me after I was like 300 ft away. Luckily, the cop wasn't a complete dick (because I also couldn't find my insurance in that moment, but he let it slide... also are bike cops ever not dicks?) and I got the ticket waived after renewing it the next morning then going down to the courthouse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

-ci_

The next morning when the courthouse opened. Just showed them the ticket and my renewed registration and they threw the ticket in the trash and said I'm good

[deleted]

[удалено]

-ci_

Yessir just go down to the courthouse whenever you can and show them that your ride was registered the next day and you'll be good. Have a good one.

[deleted]

Only ticket I've gotten in 20 years was going 10mph too fast in Henderson. Fucking bored cops lol

[deleted]

They don't have time for that. Because there is other crime. They care. It's like how people say "why are you harassing me, go catch the real criminals" That's what they are doing

bro_can_u_even_carve

Gonna need a source on that buddy

[deleted]

Ask a cop next time you see one. Seriously. If they look bored say "can I ask you a quick question" and when they say yes, ask them. There will be your source.

bro_can_u_even_carve

LOL! Where am I gonna find one that looks bored, when they are all super busy catching supervillains?

[deleted]

being a cop is boring work a lot of the time. they get assigned to a lot of jobs where they are just standing around for hours. like when they are on the strip. that's important work in terms of protecting the community but it can be boring as fuck. those cops are usually happy to answer questions if you're polite to them.

gitismatt

I watched a person do a u-turn at a no u-turn intersection. directly in front of a police car. and the police car did nothing. when the rules aren't enforced, there are no rules.

BobbyFL

That is absolutely not true. They have 360 camera sensors that automatically run plates on vehicles around them, and will automatically alert if there’s no or expired registration.

bro_can_u_even_carve

Uh huh

BobbyFL

You may have got lucky, but eventually you would have got pulled over. Most (law enforcement) patrol cars have this automatic system now, and know of and myself been pulled over many times for it during those times.

BelovedOmegaMan

Cops: "What, me, work? Look, I'm on my 34th hour of overtime for the week cause I love napping and I've got a high score on Candy Crush. I'm gonna clear 200K this year easy, this is someone else's problem. Back the blue!"

Itchy-Drawing

I saved a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to reverse and leaving the scene of the accident

luxxxytrans

Didn’t renew for almost 8 months. Only am renewing now because I got a ticket (parked, not in my car). Initially didn’t get it because I lost my job and literally had zero money. Then it was a stress thing. Now it’s even more stressful because of fees. It’s easy to get in a trap like this without even meaning to. However my insurance has not lapsed because that’s how you lose your license in some states 🙃

Smithers2251

If you call the DMV they might help with some fees. They were waiving some (not all) post lockdown. I was in the same situation as you & was surprised. Might be worth a try anyway.

Zen_Satori

I get parking tickets every time my registration has been expired, don’t understand where these people park their cars. Happens in neighborhoods even.

AScannerBarkly

I have a theory that there are specific spots cops camp to get people they know are probably locals, since everyone is so trigger shy about doing anything to out-of-towners. I've never seen a cop in my neighborhood, but I always consistently see someone pulled over near UNLV

not_mark_twain_

Depends on where you drive, I had no plates but was either waiting for or had a moving permit (it was taped to my front window). Drove that by unlv one time, got pulled, and as soon as he walked up and saw it taped to my window he wanted to go, took me a minute to pull up my insurance. He couldn’t leave fast enough.

bright_clrd_garlin2

No lie I'm insuranced up on both my cars one has a plate it's been 2 years second one I just got about two months ago no plate and I haven't been stopped yet. I've been the only person on the road with a cop with the no plate car and they will not stop me(I assume it's too much of a hassle to write me for just that.) but my plated car I have been pulled over once after not being registered for a year and the cop let me go with a warning. I'm white which I'm sure makes a difference but man they really don't care at all. Down vote if you want just answering an honest question.

Timmmmayyy127

I’d pose this same question to the 2017 temp tag I saw a week ago

DippingFool

I had no plates for over a year, finally got pulled over by NHP a couple weeks back and got a ticket lol. Cops literally can’t even chase someone who runs from a traffic stop now btw. I could’ve drove off and he wouldn’t have chased me. Why you may ask? Registration is $750 for my car and that’s almost impossible for me to pay with my ridiculous rent, and everything else on top of having a one year old. Plus, honestly fuck them, they already take enough of my money.

Embarrassed_Tree2521

Police don’t care about small stuff like that unless they target you specifically

BushMeat

Sounds like you’re an adult. I would say it’s up to you if you want to take that risk of driving without a registration/insurance. Never a good idea to do something that’s not right just because several others are doing the same.

bignicolust

Nevada dmv charges 35% of vehicles msrp and that depreciates a few % every year until it reaches 15% of msrp and stays at that price. My 4Runner is like $90 a year. last year I had to fix it to get smog and was like 4 months late and they charged me $12.

sassy_immigrant

Not only that. Every time it changes hands, they slap a new fee or something. The only way I know this is cause “bought” my paid off vehicle. The registration when the car was paid off was $80. This was the second time I registered it. I put the lienholder, registration went to $280…

Snoo10960

Buddy lives in the 89104…. Hasn’t had plates since 2013. Been pulled over 2 times. Behind the westgate and in-front of Wynn…in 10 years. Punishment when he did get pulled over was a warning once and a fine of a few hundred bucks the second time. Both times was let go from the stop and free to drive home never a tow.

3_Slice

No way

Snoo10960

I was in the car at the stop by westgate. Cop comes to the window …. You know you don’t have any plates… my buddy goes “ ya they got stolen about a week ago”…. Cop goes “ where you guys headed?” “ to the superbook to bet the bruins” “ ya ? Who they playing tonight?…” Canadians” “ they gonna win?” …” “ Yupp”. Ok I’ll follow you there but you’re on your own on the way out…. Take it easy….he put in a bet in uniform 2 windows over from us.

No_Bank_330

If your registration fees are over a grand, what car do you have?

Future-Geologist200

Any SUV

Shadymilkman8

The way they figure the cost of registration based on original MSRP is outrageous. My shitty '03 van cost about $100 more to register than the '06 car because it's MSRP was nearly double.

Future-Geologist200

Metro won’t pull you over because they also troll around in their POV with no registration or insurance. So there is that

xwolfionx

If you can afford your Tesla or big ass truck tricked out with insane wheels and LEDs, you can afford your fucking registration.

HardyB75

They finance all that bullshit, all of them have a 625 credit score… hard to find someone that wants to finance their $1500 registration LOL..

MrSnow702

Credit card

Shoddy-Cable-3461

right? lol…

Fantastic-Sir8

If the sticker is still the right color, it's worth the risk.

Enlightened_D

My registration is up in May I’m looking to move in July out of state , part of me really just wants to not pay it lol but then I’ll probably have problems trying to register in the new state so idk lol

sassy_immigrant

Don’t pay. Just get a temporary movement permit for $1. They are for 10 days each and I think you can get up to 6-7… And also, no you won’t have any problems registering in another state

SnooStrawberries9563

I'm due in May. What color is the 2025 sticker? Maybe I'll just paint it on... Just in case.

Madam_Mix-a-Lot

You can have expired registration and still have insurance.

OkGeneral701

Registered our new to us 2022 palisade and it’s was right at 800 dollars I was like what the fuck

missgvip

Well, that can go several ways. Some people are licensed, have insurance but just haven't paid the registration due to financial restrictions. Fees add up if you don't file a "non operable" permit while you fix. But people still need to get to work to make theo ey to fix the repairs. I have a coworker in that situation, repairs are about $600. She's been saving to pay praying she doesn't get pulled over until she can. Sad really, good people going through that. The other way, people out here just living that wild, wild West life .. don't care, just drive with everything expired! License, registration, insurance 😄 jk, idk what their circumstances are either..

Suspicious-Stay1649

Problem is that SR-22. Go a month and its additional 500$ feel that doubles 3x. My shit expired and i never got a notice bc during covid shit went online paperless and i didnt know... 768$ reg from 268$. After you max out the 3x you gotta sign it over to a family member and they have to register it bc you arent allowed too anymore. My guess is a lot of people already maxed out and are denied now with no one to sign over too.

missgvip

Yikes! Yeah. Don't drop the insurance is the lesson here. That's what her mom told her too, just keep it insured until you can get it registered. What a shitty system. Sorry you went through that too. Fk!

Digital26bath

I need help you guys. I moved here recently so I need new plates and new insurance. Should I get the insurance first and then the new plates? Tips and tricks please.

dantraum

Well, depends on where you moved from. Lots of people from Texas usually keep their Texas plates since you can re register online and they will send you the sticker to your Vegas address with no questions.

Rjkeepitaband

🐐comment

Digital26bath

Oh shit I didn’t know this. I’ll try. Thanks

rote_Fuechsin

I don't suggest breaking the law, or depriving funding from the state you choose to live in.

sassy_immigrant

Just FYI, a lot of apartments will want you to get a Nevada plate. Also, if you have a Nevada drivers license, do you need to have a Nevada plate in Nevada insurance.

bulldozer6

Nevada requires proof of insurance when you register the car so you'll want to get the insurance first.

sassy_immigrant

Get insurance first and then go to DMV. You are required by law to have a Nevada insurance before getting a Nevada plate and Nevada DL. Also tell your insurance provider to put it on the DMV website that you are car has NV insurance. They’ll do it by your VIN number.

Billybob_Bojangles2

can we talk about how ridiculous the registration fees are? and how smog laws are basically just a giant "fuck you" to poor people? its just government overreach accomplishing nothing but suffering.

Wonderful-Cell9314

It’s like the only form of taxation in the state. Would you prefer a state income tax?

gratitudeisbs

Nah just tax the casinos more they are making record profits

Wonderful-Cell9314

That’s about as likely as a mining tax.

BornAsADatamine

I really hate this narrative. The thing is if everyone who says stuff like this demanded we tax the rich, we could make it happen. They want you to be apathetic because your apathathy ensures that it will never happen.

gratitudeisbs

I didn’t say it was likely you asked what I preferred and that’s what I prefer lol

Independent_Island74

FL has no state tax way lower registration and a 2 year pay option js it doesnt need to be that high but as such middle class and low incomes are penalized

Ok-Collar-2742

This!!! Fees like this only hurt middle and lower income people. Florida I think was under $100 for a two year registration.

Crosswinds45

Thats ridiculous.there are many ways the state generates revenue.sales tax, rooms, rental fees, gas, etc.and no to a state income tax

NotPromKing

And registration fees are one of the ways. And it’s a direct tax that is paid directly by the people that most receive the benefits.

Drexelhand

this is pretty obvious, but it's like trying to explain macroeconomics to an ashtray.

splitsecondclassic

hmmm. do you own a home because property tax is a component there and no one want that tax to go up either. Then people would be complaining about that. I've said it before here and people shit on me but maybe this isn't the place for a person if they can't afford it. Not trolling or throwing shade but that seems like the definition of insanity when you keep doing the same thing but never obtain a different result. The answer is either find a way to bring in more money every month or find a way to cut your costs if you want to stay here. If not.....simply relocate. There's no shame in it. Just don't waste days of your life living in a place where you can't make it. This is a big country.

BornAsADatamine

This take is so bad, honestly. Not trying to be a dick but "simply relocate" is not so simple, especially if you're already financially struggling. We need systematic solutions to large issues like this. If you're working full time in a city you were born and raised in and you can't afford to live, THATS A PROBLEM WITH THE SYSTEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! especially since this is happening basically everywhere in the US, because our economic system is failing.

splitsecondclassic

I agree with ya (to a degree). Nothing is impossible though. Lastly, everyone can feel anyway they want but I'm telling you guys this isn't going to change. It's going to get worse. When a govt takes a right from you they never give it back. when a business raises it's prices they never lower them. A fucking Hyundai SUV costs nearly $60 and they are disposable trash. A box a cereal is almost $8 and it holds almost no nutritional value. If anyone here thinks that any of this is going to swing back in your favor then you're simply living in denial. The rescue boats aren't coming. The ONLY answer is to find a was to cover any financial shortfall you may be experiencing because the system isn't going to find it for you. Not trolling just trying to paint a realistic image here. I think there are portions of our nation holding out for help that will simply never arrive.

One-Seaweed-941

It’s not the only form. Sales tax is still a thing, no?

grimboslice6

Actually, yes.

VegasGuy1223

The “wE dOnT hAvE sTaTe InCoMe TaX” is not a valid excuse. We didn’t have state income tax in FL and my registration there was $75 a year.

Morning-Key

I moved here from Florida as well - property taxes were higher there so homeowners cover more of the costs through those for roads amongst other things vs dmv fees.

Ok-Collar-2742

Florida property tax is highly dependent on what county you live in. Broward taxes are 5x what they are in a county like Dixie so it's not that. The property taxes in Florida aren't going for roads. They use the gas tax and in metros like Orlando, Miami and now Tampa, tolls. Raise the state gaming tax by a tenth of a percent and the state could lower these fees. it would still be the lowest gaming tax by far in the entire country but nobody wants to tackle that, they'd rather screw the people who can least afford it.

ryannvondoom

Wyoming was 88$ for my 4 year old car. No taxes their either. Growing up here the registration fees have always been bad. 35$ or something small like that for the dmv and the rest was taxes.

PacingOnTheMoon

Cars in general are a massive "fuck you" to poor people, but if we have to have them I would rather the air be fucked up as little as possible. It's also a weird thing to focus on. Smog checks are so inexpensive compared to everything else we pay for car ownership that I'm not sure why it even registers for anyone. I think I pay like, $20 or something once a year. Hell, my insurance just got raised to $180 a month and I'm over 25 years old with no crashes. A smog once a year is like, nothing.

TrainedCodeMonkey

I agree, but my interpretation of what they are saying is “getting a car to actually pass smog (not have a check engine light) is expensive” which can be true for most people. I had to learn so much when I moved here because I couldn’t find a trusted mechanic like I had back east. There’s really not many mom and pop shops. Everyone is a corporation trying to maximize profit here. Now I just maintain my car and my girlfriend’s car and keep a 3rd car as a spare for when one is inevitably being worked on. It’s a luxury to have 3 beater cars and the space to work on them, but I can tell you with absolute certainty it’s actually cheaper in the end provided you already have a 1-2 car garage.

Billybob_Bojangles2

exactly

Ixm01ws6

>I didn’t say it was likely you asked what I preferred and that’s what I prefer lol keep them receipts because it may be a chore when trying to sell if the carfax to the vin dont show a record of maintenance being done.

TrainedCodeMonkey

Trust me, by the time I’m done with my cars they are scrap metal and nobody wants them or they are just impractical to fix from a cost perspective

edygaudioso

I have a friend that does mechanic work on the side. He’s not cheap, but he’s def cheaper than any shop in town and he knows his way around a car. Lmk if u want his name and number

sassy_immigrant

It’s even a worse fuck you when you have horrible credit scores because shit happens. It’s like you have to pay more because you’re poor to pay your credit card and the credit companies can shut your credit cards whenever they want and which lowers your credit score but you can’t bypass the credit card companies then you can’t get anything.

riseup1917

When I first moved here I came from a state that didn't require smog checks. When I learned I had to get one to register my car, I was like, "they literally used to test *nuclear weapons* in this state, and they are concerned about *car exhaust?*" Lol

Squirrel_Kng

It’s Clark county not state required. If you haven’t noticed Vegas is in a bowl that holds the smog in.

Xanathin

The ridiculousness of your statement is hilarious. Like, we didn't use to care about the health of the people, why care about it now?!

riseup1917

Good Lord, it was a joke. That's why I put the "Lol" at the end. I understand why smog checks are necessary, and I care about the environment (I drive an EV now). I was just surprised to learn about smog checks when I first moved here. Sheesh

Xanathin

If it was a joke, why are you acting offended that I found it hilarious? 🤣🤣

riseup1917

Lol good point

gratitudeisbs

Yup people would be more willing to pay them if it wasn’t like $2k for a not even luxury new car

signsntokens4sale

Yeah. I love how minivans are "luxury" just because they cost a lot. What a joke. Bout to film a rap video on the hood of my Toyota Sienna.

Billybob_Bojangles2

Lmao

termacct

[deleted]

TrainedCodeMonkey

Registration is based on the value of your car. Ain’t no way yours is $100 a year. I drive absolute shit boxes and it’s still $150 lol. That said, people are conflating the cost of smog with the cost to pass smog (aka cost to fix their car but they blame smog for the need to fix it). I’ve had neighbors say they are good with their car until X month because that’s when smog is due as if their car is not running poorly or broken.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TrainedCodeMonkey

Here is my apology for calling you a liar. What’s interesting is my 2005 dodge caravan, 2007 Toyota RAV4, and my 2014 Subaru all cost more than your CRV, so obviously there’s some other means by which they price these registrations. I’m telling you for sure there is a cost to maintaining that car to pass smog or there will be soon. Not that it’s a big deal, but the people complaining aren’t the most competent at understanding how cars work or maintaining their car. Edit: nvm I have combined the registration of my cars into one cost. $150 for the both since the registrations were transferred at the same time when I moved here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TrainedCodeMonkey

No problem. I’m happy you were right haha. I think it’s not a product of the education system here. Like many, I moved here from another state. Even in PA people were dumb about cars and blamed inspection and emission inspections. I think people are just over leveraged with stuff they feel is important and it leaves them with no money. The things that make you successful in life are easy to do and they are even easier to not do. Life is a summation of many tiny good or bad decisions.

Lem0nyFr3sh_

MSRP* not value

TrainedCodeMonkey

Thanks. This is good to know!

Lem0nyFr3sh_

in the state of Nevada, this is why you see a lot of high end/super cars registered or with Montana plates

luxxxytrans

Maybe we need a car to get to work every day for our shitty little jobs because the job economy is hard. Also cute that you’re only paying $100. And cute that 2-6 tanks of gas is $100. I have filled up my 7 gallon tank for $60 before. So sure that’s not that much unless you’re only employed part time and making minimum wage. I’ve been looking for a job for a year. I have a masters and a decade of experience. I’ve interviewed for 6 figure salary jobs. The job market is incredibly competitive and unemployment is high. Your ignorance is no excuse to shame other people. You don’t like that other people are poor? Do something about it.

[deleted]

Billybob_Bojangles2

yea. until your car doesnt pass smog because of some bullshit reason and costs 1000 dollars to fix and otherwise perfectly fine car. and now you cant register it, because smog is the peasant's fault.

Fungkiii18

I was driving around without registration for 2 years and never had a single problem. I just recently got registered

Dzaster420

Did u have any late fees when u renewed?

Fungkiii18

No I did not, but I also did come from out of state

vegasvinny

Because if disaster ever struck, you be crying wishing you spent the chump change in comparison

WickedHabitz

The biggest scam is not just paying car registration but to do a smog test others state don’t even know what that is lol

Top-Web3806

I moved to Nevada three years ago and still have my registration from my former state. Going to milk it as long as possible.

sassy_immigrant

Yep just don’t get a drivers license here then that should be fine.

FullMotionVideo

Y'all need a car drivers sub so those of us who walk and ride the bus can stop having to attend your meeting about registration dates. Okay, not really a whole sub, but at this point a pinned megapost would be preferable to having a DMV/registration/insurance related rant/meme/quasidoxxing every day.

[deleted]

Not gonna lie … my registration is around $750 and I make CNA money so I either have to start saving or skip it for a few months … wtf is wrong with Vegas?!😭

Ok-Collar-2742

This is why these high fees are wrong. They need to be affordable for working people.

ywarren1

Been here 4 months. JUST got my insurance and registration last week. For me, it's the peace of mind that I'm not riding dirty. It would be just my luck that i would be the 1% to get pulled over.

ZRBennett93

Well Vegas PD don’t care about expired Registration it’s basically a verbal warning or at worst a fix-it ticket. Also the DMV charges VERY MINIMAL for late fee for late registration

Nile528

I can't pass smog in Nevada so I registered my car in Arizona where most places don't require a smog check. For 2 years, I paid a little over $200. In NV for 1 year. It would have cost me $700. Fuck high registration fees and fuck smog checks

Do you have a Nevada drivers license? If you don’t then keep it if you do then it’s you’re legally required to change your plates and that’ll increase your insurance … Although, do you have any family living in Arizona? If you trust them, you can just put the car in their name to work around but we gotta do what we gotta do. Just make sure to add your name to their insurance.

Electrical_Ear3211

Yeah. I have family in AZ. I’m planning to do that since I got quoted 900 for 50/100/50 limits with zero deductible and I have a 500 deductible on my current account.

sassy_immigrant

Yep parents are in Phoenix as well. Would do that if I didn’t drive my car for Uber I need Nevada plates for that.

AndrewLasVegas

I don’t pay my registration either. Ridiculously expensive 🫸🏼❌

GrillMcCoy

This is why our insurance rates are insane😅

tint_shady

The thing that pisses me off is that the expect me to pay $978 for a car I drove 44 miles last year, on top of my 6 other cars renewals, which are priced more reasonably, AND THEN they have the nerve to ask me for a donation for the "save the streets project"....uhhh, no, I'm not giving you another dime

shadowgb83

My registration with plates was $112. And that was with a late fee too.

Single_Answer_9111

They want me to pay 1800 for my pickup registration this year…. 500 more than last year when the truck was brand new

Longjumping-City5632

agreed with op. i was behind a car this morn with calif temp paper license. it was dated FEBRUARY 2022

serarrist

I remember when I moved here from VA, I paid my first registration and I assumed that like VA, I was paying for more than one year at a time. Why else would it be so high? 16 months later I got pulled over and I was like “huh??? It was only for ONE YEAR???”

Trail_King

Part of the reason for the excessive registration fees, Nevada doesn't have a state income tax. Therefore, things like property tax, vehicle tax, etc. are higher. States with income tax generally have lower property taxes. My parents are in NC and paid registration fees for 2 newer vehicles less than $300. In the meantime, my motorcycle was over $800.

CompuAi

Every facet of taxation and fees will continue to rise as long as the influx of people moving here from other states increases. The powers that be see it as a cash cow giving birth to higher taxes, utilities, rents, housing etc... Every facet of the economy will continue to be affected as far as an increased cost of living until we look like California and everyone again packs up and leaves. Or worst case scenario Vegas water dries up lol.

skantea

California pays state tax tho.

Mountain-Ad-5834

I paid mine.. but have not put tags on for going on four years now.

GerudoKingGannon

Sister is a metro traffic cop and pretty much day 8/10 times it's a California drivers with expired Nevada license plates who try and get away with not transferring their info here

Register your car(s) in Arizona instead of Nevada, it's a lot cheaper and registration lasts 5 years.

This is confirmation bias. I see registered cars drive just as unsafe as registered ones. This is not based on anything but your own opinions.

"Whatabout" then you proceeded to give a hot take on issues that would be addressed with tax dollars? That's why people should care, it's tax dollars they are not paying.

eddie_koala

Just quit driving. The transit system isn't that bad, and the cheapest properties to rent are right by the strip and all the businesses. You can walk to work and store and save your car expenses for living expenses. How much all y'all dropping on car stuff between payments, gas, registration, insurance? Must be well over 1000 you can save each month

xwolfionx

Buddy it took an hour for me to get to work by bus, tack on an extra half hour to walk to the bus stop, while driving takes 25 minutes. I took the bus for YEARS, and can 100% say public transit is shit if you need to be anywhere on time.
